Clifford Euerle, 75

Clifford Euerle, 75, of Villard, Minn. died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, Minn.

On March 5, 1938 a baby boy was born to William H. Euerle, Jr. and Edna L. (Zellmer) Euerle in Newport, Minn. They named him Clifford William Euerle. After graduating from Par-Ki in 1956, Cliff went to work for CF Industries in Pine Bend, Minn.

On Sept. 12, 1959, he married Sharon Weitzel at the United Congregational Church in Cottage Grove, Minn., where they resided and began to raise six children. They moved to the Villard area in 1975 when Cliff was transferred to a supervisor position at the new Anhydrous Ammonia Chemical terminal in Glenwood. He worked there for many years, retiring in 1997. Cliff kept busy in his retirement by helping local farmers and doing mechanic work. He was a jack of all trades and was always willing to help out a neighbor. Years earlier, Cliff was the fire chief for the East Cottage Grove Fire Department and he continued that willingness to serve his community and church throughout his life. He volunteered on projects for Habitat for Humanity and was also active in the building of the new Villard United Methodist Church where he was a member. Cliff also helped out at church as an usher and belonged to the United Methodist Men’s group. In addition, Cliff volunteered his time to help with cemetery maintenance at the Lake Amelia Cemetery.

Some of Cliff’s favorite pastimes included doing yard work, beekeeping and maintaining his many bird feeders, as well as maintaining his classic cars and traveling. He was an animal lover who always had a pet throughout his life. He was a kind and loving father, grandpa and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

Cliff is survived by: his children, Ray (Lynn) Euerle of Osakis, Mike Euerle of Villard, Scott (Linda) Euerle of Buffalo, Sherry (Tim Waulters) Euerle of Elk River, Marty Euerle of Robbinsdale, and Dale (Teri) Euerle of Villard; 18 grandchildren, Billy Euerle, Desirae Welle, Christie and Justin Euerle, Amber and Kyle Euerle, Stacey, Amanda, Ryan, and Nick Wynn, Kari Volkmann-Carlsen, Tyler and Travis Euerle, Tammy Reddington, Rob Waulters, Melissa Compton, and Steven and Adam Waulters; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Don (Bernie) Gundy of Fairfield Glade, Tenn. and Clifford “Butch” (Renee) Sockness of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Sharon Euerle in 2007; and two sisters, Bernice Miller and Irene Lewerer.

Funeral services were held for Cliff on Saturday, May 25, 11 a.m., at the Villard United Methodist Church with Rev. Alan Bolte officiating. Organist was Marj Lang. A special guitar song was performed by his son, Marty Euerle. Interment was at the Lake Amelia Cemetery in Villard, with his grandchildren as honorary pallbearers and his children as active pallbearers.

Arrangements handled by the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home, Osakis, Minn.

Patricia Benson, 78

Patricia Ann Benson, 78, of Cokato passed away on Oct. 12, 2014 at Cokato Manor.

She was born June 5, 1936 in St. Cloud, Minn. to George and Ann Jaeger. She was united in marriage to James E. Benson. This marriage was blessed with the birth of five children. They resided in Cokato 30 years.

Patricia is survived by: her children, Carl Benson, David Benson, Kathleen (Donald) McKay, Gary Benson, and Penny Benson; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Joseph and Gene Jaeger.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son, James P. Benson; daughter-in-law, Lila May Benson; brother, Thomas Jaeger; and sister, Millie Kringle.

Funeral service is taking place Thursday, Oct. 16, 1:00 p.m., and visitation was scheduled on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 4-9 p.m., all at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cokato.

Donald Hanks, 52

Donald “Donnie” George Hanks was born on Sept. 5, 1961. He passed away on Aug. 15, 2014 in Arizona. He was originally from Howard Lake.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Carole and Leon, and his sister, Deanna.

He is survived by: his children, Sonia Carriveau, Crystal Hanks, Justin Hanks, and James Hanks; his sister, Lynda Hanks; brother, Gary (Faye) Hanks; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 18, 5 p.m., at 1505 20th St. SE in Buffalo.

Rick Hofman, 58

Funeral service for Rick Alan Hofman, 58, of Colorado Springs, who passed away on Aug. 26, 2014, is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Golden Valley Lutheran Church, 5501 Glenwood Ave., in Golden Valley. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., and the service will start at 11 a.m.

Ben Kjarum, 75

Ben Kjarum, 75, of Maple Plain, Minn. passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Ridgeview Medical Center with his family at his side after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Ben was born to Beatrice and Carl Kjarum on Feb. 20, 1939 in Moose Lake, Minn. and was a baptized and confirmed member of the Lutheran Faith.

He was united in marriage to Judith Dahlmeier on Feb. 13, 1965.

A licensed land surveyor for over 40 years, Ben enjoyed working outdoors both personally and professionally and pursuing his interest in Farmall tractors. He dedicated his life to taking care of what he said gave him purpose, his: wife, family, home, and neighborhood.

Ben is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Judy, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy (Chris) Kelley of Maple Lake and Kristin (Dan) Schmidt of Belle Plaine. As a helpful and dependable rock of responsibility, he will be sadly missed by his friends and family.

A memorial service was scheduled on Saturday morning, Oct. 11 at the Lyndale Lutheran Church, Independence, with a gathering of family and friends prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home, Delano.

Dr. Daniel Marty, 65

Dr. Daniel P. Marty, 65, of Buffalo went to be with his Lord on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014.

Funeral services for Dr. Daniel Marty will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 11 a.m., at the Buffalo Evangelical Covenant Church. A visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 17 from 4-7 p.m. at the church. Further visitation will be held on Saturday morning at the church an hour prior to services.

Arrangements for Dr. Daniel Marty are by The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. A complete obituary is forthcoming.

Lawrence Odenthal Jr., 53

Lawrence A. “Larry” Odenthal Jr, 53, of Litchfield passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014 at his home.

He was born April 22, 1961 to Lawrence A. and Lorna Nell (Harrison) Odenthal.

Larry was preceded in death by: his parents, Lawrence and Lorna; grandparents, Albert and Florence Odenthal and John and Margaret Harrison; as well as a cousin, Michael Scheiber.

He is survived by: his sisters and spouses, Elaine (Parris) Erickson, Gerry (Bruce) Thorson, Sharon (Dale) Gilbert, and Laura Kern; stepbrother, Steven Holland; aunts and uncles, Alberta (Gil) Scheiber, Robert (Barb) Odenthal, Jerome (Bonnie) Odenthal, and Joseph (Judy) Odenthal; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, Minn. A Gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Delano.

Arrangements are by the Iten Funeral Home, Delano.

Vera Ottenstroer, 91

Vera Angeline Ottenstroer, 91, of St. Paul, Minn., formerly of Buffalo, Minn., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014.

She was born on Feb. 4, 1923 in Buffalo the daughter of Albert and Emma (Rose) Holland. She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1941.

On June 12, 1946, she married Melvin Ottenstroer. She worked in the ASCS office and the Wright County Motor Vehicle Department for 22 years, she retired from the courthouse in 1984. She was a member of the St. John’s Ladies Aid and was one of several founders of the church’s “Country Fair.”

Vera is survived by: a sister-in-law, Lou Ottenstroer; and nieces and nephews, Laurie Jessen, Jennifer (Lyle) Nelson, Nels (Bernadette Balut) Jessen, Karen (David) Leverentz, Patricia (Dennis) Molick, and LeAnn (Tom) Talbot.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin in 2000, and a sister, Adeline Jessen.

A memorial service for Vera Ottenstroer was scheduled on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 11 a.m., at St. John’s Evangelical Church in Buffalo, with visitation an hour prior to services at the church. Interment was planned at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in rural Maple Lake.

The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo assisted the family with arrangements.

Delores Poliwoda, 90

Delores F. Poliwoda, 90, of Delano passed away Oct. 9, 2014.

She was born March 11, 1924 in Lyndale, Minn. to Charles and Anna (Schultz) Maas.

She married Harry Poliwoda on April 23, 1946 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano and was a loving wife 68 years.

Delores was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Joyce Otto; brothers, Leon, Lloyd and Russell Maas; and grandson, Nathan Wandersee.

She is survived by: her husband, Harry; children, Kenneth (Cindy) Poliwoda, Duane (Carol) Poliwoda and Deborah (Bernie) Bermel; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Holly) Poliwoda, Kiersten Poliwoda, Aaron Poliwoda, Jaclyn (Curtis) Dumonceaux, Bethany (Nicholas) Orton, Daniel (Cindy) Wandersee, James (Megan) Wandersee, Brett (Stephanie) Bermel, and Bridget (Ed) Northway; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Valerie Wright, Lucille Strybicky, Donna Leick, and Janice Van Lith; and sister-in-law, Irene Purvis.

Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled on Tuesday morning, Oct. 14 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Delano, with visitation Monday evening at the Iten Funeral Home, Delano and further visitation Tuesday morning at Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment was planned in the Calvary Cemetery, Delano.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home, Delano.

Leona Ready, 95

Leona B. Ready, 95, passed away on Oct. 11, 2014. She was born on July 14, 1919.

Formerly of Rio Rancho, N.M. and Buffalo, Minn., Leona moved to Salt Lake City, Utah after the passing of her husband, Warren, in 1989 to be near family members and the mountains she loved.

Leona enjoyed a full life of 95 years and with her kind heart always made friends immediately. She led a simple life with a hearts desire to always be there for her family. She was proud of being Slovak, loved her sauerkraut, and amazingly met people from Czechoslovakia wherever she went. She taught herself to read and write Braille and volunteered to translate books for the blind. She remained a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church during her lifetime, loved listening to music especially the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

She is survived by: her son, Robert Ready; daughters, Jeanne Mendenhall and Gayle (Hank Bradbury) Campos; grandchildren, Patrick Ready, Shannon Koch, Mary Groover, Neil Garcia, Alejandro Campos, Katie Bradbury, and Matthew Bradbury; two great-grandchildren, Camden Ready and Ember Groover; sister, Eleanor Nielsen; and brother, John Palko. Preceded in death by her husband.

Services will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M. in November.
