Schmitt, Orphie B.

Orphie B. Schmitt, 90, of Arcadia died on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia.
She was born on July 11, 1912 in Arcadia to Philip and Mary (Wiemer) Wolfe. She married Frank Schmitt on October 18, 1932 at the Rectory of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. Frank died April 19, 1975.
Orphie was a home maker and farmer. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Women of the E.L.C.A. She enjoyed going to the Glencoe Senior Citizens events and was an avid bowler.
Orphie is survived by one son, Lee (Linda) Schmitt of Arcadia; two grandchildren, Kim (Ron) Pronschinske of Waumandee, Wis., and Kevin (Beth) "Schmitt" Ristow of Burnsville, Minn.; three great- grandsons, Phillip, Nathan and Nicholas Pronschinski; and one niece, Phyllis Doelle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son Frank Jr. on July 4, 1997, two brothers, John and Ervin, and six sisters, Bertha, Hattie, Dannie, Ida, Amanda, and Winnie.
Funeral services will be held at Christ Lutheran church on Monday, February 17, 2003 at 11 :00 a.m. with the Rev. Jerry Hanson officiating. Spring burial will be in Glencoe Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the Killian Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00-8:00 p.m., where there will be a 7 p.m. prayer service. They may also call on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
Serving as casket bearers will be Russell Schmitt, Gary Doelle, Kevin Ristow, Ron White, Ron Pronschinske, and Jerry Servais.
Killian Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bowers, John L.

John L. Bowers, 47, of Rt. 3, Winona (Witoka), died Tuesday, February 11, 2003, at his home.
John was born November 24, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Larry and Marilyn Turner Bowers. He graduated from North Scott High School in Eldridge, Iowa, in 1972. He married Maria D. Miller on May 3, 1983, in Alma, Wis. They were later divorced.
John was a self-employed truck driver for many years, and most recently was employed by Watkins Mfg. as a machine operator, after having moved to Witoka in February of 2000.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. He was stationed on nuclear subs.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry, on January 8, 2003, and by his grandparents.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn, of Witoka; children, John Joseph and Nicole Marie, of Muscoda, Wis.; sisters, Marianne (Charles) Barstow, of Algonquin, Ill., Becky (fianceé Gaylin Eide) Bowers, of Witoka, and Vicki Bowers, of St. Paul, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was an outgoing "people person" as well as an avid "biker." He loved to pick morel mushrooms in the spring.
John's heart and mind were always on his children.
Memorial services were held Thursday, February 13, at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Wade Davick officiating. Burial was in Witoka Cemetery.
Martin-Myhre Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.

Kamrowski, Lorraine A. (Lubinski) Kujak

Lorraine A. Kamrowski, 73, of Arcadia, Wis., died Monday, February 10, 2003, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Nursing Home in Arcadia.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, February 14, at Holy Family Parish, with Rev. Patrick Umberger and Rev. Robert Polcyn officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.

Irvine, Muriel E.

Muriel E. Irvine, 89, of Galesville, Wis., died Tuesday, February 11, 2003, at Marinuka Manor in Galesville.
Memorial services were held Saturday, February 15, at First Presbyterian Church in Galesville. Private family burial will be at a later date.

Rosenberg, Mildred H.

Services for Mildred H. Rosenberg, 92, of rural Ceylon, Minn., were Saturday, February 8, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Welcome, with Rev. Jean Wallenfang officiating. Burial was in Tenhassen Cemetery in rural Ceylon.
Mildred died Thursday, February 6, 2003, at the Lutz Wing of the Fairmont Medical Center-Mayo Health System in Fairmont, Minn. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Welcome.
Mildred Helen Fanter was born May 12, 1910, to Louis and Bertha (Wendland) Fanter, on the family farm in Tenhassen Township, rural Ceylon. She received her education in country schools in District #17 in Tenhassen Township. She was confirmed at St. John's Church in Ceylon. On March 25, 1931, she was united in marriage to Alwin Rosenberg at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Ceylon.
After their marriage, they lived on a farm in Manyaska Township until buying the family farm in Tenhassen Township. Alwin died May 14, 1993. In December of 2002, Mildred became a resident of the Lutz Wing-Mayo Health System.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Welcome. Mildred greatly enjoyed gardening and baking.
She is survived by her son, Gerald Rosenberg and his wife, Rhetis Ann, of rural Ceylon; a daughter, Phyllis Schreiber and her husband, Earl, of rural Ceylon; four grandchildren, Julie Cartwright and her husband, Mark, of Pine River, Wis., Jill Rosenberg and her husband, of Madison, Wis., Dawn Schreiber of Winona, and Darwin Iverson of rural Ceylon; two great-granddaughters, Amanda and Kaylie Cartwright; sisters-in-law, Esther Craig of Welcome, Minn., Elma Grussing of Sauk Centre, Minn., Hulda Ask of Sherburn, Minn., and Norma Rosenberg of Trimont, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Roy Rosenberg and his wife, Neva, of Welcome; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Alwin Rosenberg, two sisters, Luverna Lindell and Sarah Barrett, and other relatives.
Music was provided by organist, Colleen Bunge and soloist, Marlene Abel.
Honorary bearers were Arvin Rosenberg, Donald Tieje and Dee McMultry.
Casketbearers were Edwin Abel, John Ask, Mark Cartwright, Donald Grussing, Darwin Iverson, Theodore Kaminski and Karl Olson.

Duellman, Berthilla E.

Berthilla E. "Girlie" Duellman, 92, of Fountain City, Wis., died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
Berthilla was born on the home farm on Cross Ridge in Buffalo County, Wis., to William J. and Hedwig (Wunderlich) Duellman on October 21, 1910. She was the first daughter of William and Hedwig, thus she was called "Girlie."
She attended Cross Ridge School and St. Mary's School in Fountain City, completing eight grades with perfect attendance.
"Girlie" never married. She lived on the home farm until 1943, when she moved in to care for her uncle, William Knaub. She kept house for him until his death in 1962. She then worked at the Fountain City Co-op Creamery for a short time. In 1963 she began working at the new laundromat in Fountain City and continued until the mid 1970s.
She has always enjoyed the hills and the woods. Many times in years past she took her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews for a walk in the woods to look for berries and hickory nuts, or to hunt squirrels.
Girlie was a life-long member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a member of its church circle for over 60 years. She is a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, in which she has held national offices and has been president of the Fountain City chapter since 1945. She is a past president of the Catholic Council of Women, and member of the Homemakers Club. She was an avid card player and enjoyed the game of "500."
Girlie enjoyed life and was a friend to all who met her. She gave of her time and talents to her church, family and the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Hilarion, Sylvan and Daniel.
Girlie is survived by a sister, Beata Luck, St. Francis, Minn.; 27 nieces and nephews, 101 great-nieces and nephews and many, many great-great nieces and nephews. A loving sister and aunt, she will be sadly missed by them and all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for her on Sat., Feb. 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rev. John Parr officiating. Interment will be in the spring at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fountain City, Wis.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the Donor's Choice.

Matias, Earl R.

Earl R. Matias, 77, of LaCrosse, Wis., died Friday, December 27, 2002.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 1, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2135 Weston St., LaCrosse, with Rev. Dennis C. Johnson officiating. Private inurnment will take place at Oak Grove Garden Mausoleum.

Newman, Ellis A.

Ellis A. Newman, 61, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002, at her daughter's home in Minnesota City, Minn.
A celebration of her life was held Monday, December 30, at Hoff Funeral Homes-Burke Winona Chapel. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Minneiska, Minn.

Drazkowski, August E.

August E. Drazkowski, 69, of Polk, Wis., died Friday, December 27, 2002, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, December 30, at St. Mary's Catholic Chapel of St. Gabriel Parish, Richfield, Wis., with Rev. Charles T. Hanel officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Fay, Warren "Bud"

Warren "Bud" Fay, 82, of Homer, Minn., died Wednesday, December 25, 2002, at the Yuma Regional Medical Center in Yuma, Ariz.
Bud was born on November 8, 1920, in Witoka, Minn., to Louis and Myrtle Hayter Fay.
As a youth, Bud's daily chores included helping his father take care of the lions housed at Rockledge, home of Mr. and Mrs. E.L. King of Homer. He took up flying at age fifteen at the Conrad Flying Service and flew with Max Conrad, Jr.
He served his country during World War II, from September 1942, to October 1945. He landed at Normandy Beach as a rifleman with the 35th Infantry Division. Bud served in the Normandy, northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns, and was wounded twice. He was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts, along with numerous service and campaign medals.
Bud married Marion A. Spittler on December 1, 1945, at the parsonage of Central United Methodist Church.
He retired from Winona Tool Manufacturing in March 1983.
He is a member of the Homer United Methodist Church and a life member of the DAV. He was a ham operator for many years, loved to fly, hunted many years ago, was a model railroad enthusiast, and flew model airplanes.
He is survived by his wife, Marion; a daughter, Vicki (Neil) Monahan of Goodview, Minn.; a sister, Nellye Fay Rohlfing of Winona; and a half-brother, Jack Fay of Fergus Falls, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, George W. Cordes, and a half-sister, Marion Fay.
Funeral services were Tuesday, December 31, at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Christine Robinson officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, West Prairie, Centerville, with military rites provided by the Leon J. Wetzel American Legion Post #9.
Martin-Myhre Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
