Delores Runningen

Delores (Ruben) Runningen, 69, Ashby, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa, Ariz.

She was born Dec. 15, 1934, in rural Fergus Falls to Fred and Edna (Hanneman) Schmidt. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School and then worked for a short time at Otter Tail Power Co.

On June 7, 1953, she married Ruben Runningen in Fergus Falls where they owned Runningen Hide and Fur. She also ran a Daycare for several years. In 1993 the couple moved to rural Ashby where they spent the summers and went south for the winter.

She was a member of the Grue Lutheran Church of Ashby and a member of the VFW and also a member of the American Legion. She loved going to bingo and crocheting blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved watching wildlife outside on her patio. She will be sadly missed by all.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ruben; children: Larry (Jane) Runningen of Fergus Falls, Jerry (Dale) Runningen of Upton, Ky., Vicki (Dennis) Dorn of Clitherall and Mary (Steve) Truesdell of Alexandria; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and her brother, Walter (Fern) Schmidt of Underwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clarence; and his wife, Laura.

Visitation: Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Ashby and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Monday at Grue Lutheran Church, rural Ashby

Hazel Hasbargen

Hazel Hasbargen, 79, Breckenridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Breckenridge.

She was born Nov. 30, 1925, in Sunnyside Township, to Arthur and Ruth (Owen) Hiedeman. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Breckenridge and later confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Foxhome. In her youth, she enjoyed 4-H, piano and, of course, playing baseball with the Hiedeman family. She graduated from Campbell High School in 1942.

She married Warren Hasbargen July 11, 1943, at the Breckenridge Methodist Church. They lived on a farm near Wheaton for one year prior to moving to a farm in Sunnyside Township, which they purchased a few years later. They resided there until moving to Breckenridge in 1973. They were members of the Foxhome Lutheran Church where Hazel was actively involved and later the Breckenridge Lutheran Church.

The church was an important part of her religious and social life. She both enjoyed its support and the opportunity it brought for service to her family and community. Her family especially remembers the flowers from her garden, the "just right" taste of apple pie, and most of all, the empathy she had for the feelings of others.

She was a weekly volunteer at the St. Francis Hospital. She taught Sunday school and Bible School. She also served as mission secretary, President of Foxhome ALCW, and officer of various committees, such as making quilts. She was also active in the ALCW in Breckenridge. She was active in homemakers and as a 4-H leader. As a homemaker she enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening, along with helping on the farm. Her hobbies included flower gardening, quilting, and painting. She enjoyed sports and was active in a bowling league for many years. She spent much time watching her grandchildren play sports. She especially enjoyed going to musicals and plays. For several years Hazel and Warren wintered in Arizona, enjoying retirement and golf.

She is survived by her husband, Warren; two sons and two daughters, and their families: Mike (Vernae) of rural Breckenridge and their children Marc (Kristen), Michelle (Carlo) Rada, and Matt (Katie); Carol (Gerald) Baumann of Renville, Minn., and their children Nickolas (Tracy) and William (Mary); Joyce (Steven) Caspers of Breckenridge and their children Gregory (Amanda) and Michael (Kelly); and David (Wayne Zimmerman) of Oxbow, N.D., and their children Matthew (Marisa) Zimmerman and Brandon Zimmerman; and three great-grandchildren: August Hasbargen, Alexander Hasbargen, and Colton Rada. She is also survived by her sisters, Ethel Peterson, Breckenridge, and Cora (Armand) Johnson, Shelton, Wash., and brothers Raymond (Shirley), Alexandria, Herbert (Phyllis), Wahpeton, and Richard (Barbara), Breckenridge and her sister-in-laws Monica Hiedeman, Mabel Hiedeman, Mae Hiedeman and Jackie Hiedeman, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son, Arthur; and daughter, Marjorie;and her brothers George, Russell, Harold, and Earl.

Visitation: Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m public prayer service the funeral home and also one hour prior to the Saturday service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Breckenridge Lutheran Church

Clarence Anderson

Clarence Orville Anderson, 82, Fergus Falls, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Lake Region Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.

He was born Sept. 7, 1922, in Pelican Rapids to Carl L. and Olga (Kittleson) Anderson. He was baptized at Bagstevold Lutheran Church in Erhard and confirmed at First (English) Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls where he was a current member.

He grew up on the family farm in Carlisle Township. He graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1941.

He married Verna Haugrud of Pelican Rapids June 16, 1946, at Grove Lake Lutheran Church (married 58 years) and worked as an electrician for over 40 years. He lived his entire life in Fergus Falls, except for four years in Long Prairie, Minn. (1958-62), and a couple of years in South St. Paul as a child.

He enjoyed summer vacations out west with his family and later traveling to visit them as adult children in various parts of the United States. An avid gardener of flowers and vegetables, he also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, rock collecting, traveling, cribbage, card playing, board games, and good old-fashioned conversation with family and friends. He was a charter member of the Fergus Falls High School chapter of Future Farmers of America and active in the Otter Tail County "Rock Club" for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Verna; three sons: Orris of Canton, Mich., Arlan (Kari)of Alexandria, and Clare (Pam) of Mercer Island, Wash.; two daughters, Janet (Jim) Alfonse of Tewksbury, Mass., and Kathryn Anderson of Bethlehem, N.H.; four granddaughters: Shannon (Bill) Jarvi of Alexandria, Jennifer Teehan of San Diego, Calif., April Teehan of Bethlehem, N.H., and Kristin Anderson of Mercer Island, Wash.; grandson, Brant Anderson of Alexandria; three great-grandchildren: Briena, Dawson and Joselyn Jarvi; sister, Arlene (Burnett) Bordson of Fergus Falls; brother, Duane (Shirley) Anderson of Fergus Falls; and numerous family and friends.

He preceded in death by his mother and father; and an infant son, Dale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be given to the donorâs choice.

Visitation: Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls

Warren Freudenberg

Warren Edgar Freudenberg, 64, rural Garfield, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

He was born Aug. 7, 1940, to Erwin and Esther (Glebe) Freudenberg in Leaf Valley Township. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church. He grew up in Leaf Valley, attending country school, Parkers Prairie Public School and Morris Ag. School. Following his education, he entered the U.S. Army, serving as Military Police in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the Garfield area and married Gladys Ziegelmann Aug. 27, 1966, at St. John's Lutheran Church. Following their marriage, he farmed near Garfield and Leaf Valley, farming until the time of his death.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Garfield and the Ashby American Legion. His hobbies included watching Nascar racing and the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed farming, ice fishing, snowmobile racing and was team mechanic for the Fireball and Carlson Racing Teams for many years. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by two daughters, Teri (and Mark) Viger and Tonya (and Kile) Bergren, both of Fergus Falls; son, Travis (and Kelly) Freudenberg of Burnsville; father, Erwin Freudenberg of Parkers Prairie; former wife, Gladys Freudenberg of Garfield; three sisters: Corrine (and Gilbert) Diedrich of Roseville, Audrey (and Charles) Jensen of Parkers Prairie and Marian (and Dave) Olson of Andover; two grandchildren, Jacob and Elise; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Freudenberg; and a niece, Debra (Diedrich) Olson.

Visitation: From 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home and continue one hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church in South Effington Township, rural Parkers Prairie with Rev. Joel Brutlag officiating

Teresa L. Bianchi-Rossi

Teresa L. Bianchi-Rossi, 83, of Mountain Iron, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 17, 1917, to Paolo and Libera Babbini in Fivizzano, Italy. She grew up in Italy, where she married Angelo Bianchi-Rossi on Feb. 26, 1936. She lived in Italy for 39 years, immigrating to Mountain Iron in 1956 with her family. She was employed by the Arrow Shirt Factory in Virginia. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mountain Iron, the Mountain Iron Senior Citizens, and she loved to play bingo.

She is survived by two sons, Mario (Marilynn) Bianchi-Rossi of Ham Lake, Minn., and Robert Bianchi-Rossi of Coon Rapids, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Clementina Menini of Perth, West Australia; one niece, Maria Bianchi of Avenza, Italy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Angelo; one son, Michael; and an infant son, Paolo.

Mary Gornick

Mary Gornick, 94, a lifelong Soudan resident, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in Soudan.

She was born July 12, 1906, in Soudan, to Frank and Mary (Malensek) Gornick and attended Soudan schools. She was a deeply religious person who said many daily rosaries. She was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Tower, was a member of its kitchen workers, and did all the weddings for years. She was also past secretary for Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge No. 55. She was a quiet person, always devoted to her family. She enjoyed children immensely and spent many hours baby-sitting and spoiling her family because “no” was never in her vocabulary. She did housekeeping for private families in Iowa and the Jasper Peak Tower Firewatch for 17 years. Many people comment today on how they visited her at Jasper Peak, and she let them look through the binoculars. She enjoyed gardening, canning, embroidery, and church life. She enjoyed good jokes, was very witty, and liked to “pull a fast one” on people. She cared for her mother for more than 10 years at home before she died.

She is survived by two brothers, Matt Gornick of Soudan and Martin Gornick of Tower.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank, on Nov. 22, 1947; her mother, Mary, on March 11, 1989; brothers, Anthony in 1939, Frank in December 1989, Joseph on Nov. 19, 1995, and Frances in January 1999.

Henry G. Schall

Henry G. Schall, 92, of Togo, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the Cook Hospital.

He was born Jan 29, 1908, in Keewatin, to Sam and Anna (Berg) Schall. He moved with his family to Bear River in 1913, and had worked in the mines in Hibbing for two years. He moved to Osseo, Minn., in 1926, and married Irene Seibert there on Dec. 14, 1932. He had a rural ice route in the Osseo area for 12 years. He and Irene moved to Togo in 1946, where they lived since. He was a custodian for the Togo school for 25 years. He drove a school bus to Alango for four years, then to Bigfork for 20 years for School District No. 318. He retired in 1973, then worked in the woods. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Irene; one son, Dale (Cindy) Schall of Togo; two sisters, Hilda Reinking of Minneapolis, and Bertha Chase of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Evelyn Adams in 1991, and Shirley Rahier in 2000; one grandson, Jim Rahier in 1978; one brother, Isaac Schall; two sisters, Emma Hanson, and Clara Baudeck; son-in-law, Gerald Rahier in 1993.

Martin E. Koski Sr.

Martin E. Koski Sr., 82, Martin Eugene Koski Sr., 82, of Portsmouth, N.H., and Iron, Minn., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1918, in Eveleth, the son of Mattti and Hilja Koski, and was the second of two children. He grew up on a farm in Iron. He graduated from Eveleth High School, and Eveleth Junior College in 1938. He married Aini Heinonen on Aug. 25, 1945, in Walla Walla, Wash. They were stationed in many places in the United States and Guam before transferring to Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth in 1962. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1967 as a lieutenant colonel. After retirement, he worked part-time as a real estate agent and for the Internal Revenue Service in Andover, Mass. He was a Mason and a Toastmaster. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and accordion, visiting with family and friends, playing chess, traveling, and, like all true Finns, going to sauna.

Survivors include his wife, Aini and son, Martin, both of Portsmouth; daughters, Sonya Carter of Canaan, N.H., Sandra Koski of Nashville, Tenn., Irene Cruikshank of Deerfield, N.H., and Norma Koski of Deerfield; seven granddaughters; six grandsons; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George; and a son, Karl (Lennie) Koski.
