Elmer Paul Hasty
Elmer Paul Hasty, 75, of Crookston died Thursday morning, July 26, 2001, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, N.D.
Elmer was born July 22, 1926, in Crookston, to Frank and Dora (Perreault) Hasty. He grew up and attended rural school in Beltrami. On Sept. 21, 1948, Elmer was united in marriage to Ilene Hogenson in Crookston, where the couple made their home. Elmer worked for Ben Roher, the Erdman Brothers, and for the 900 Cab Co. In 1955, he went to work for Reserve Mining Co. in Silver Bay. Elmer worked there for 31 years before retiring in 1986. In 1992, the couple moved to Fertile, Minn., and in 1999 they returned to Crookston.

Elmer was an avid gardener and growing tomatoes was his specialty. He also had a love of animals and anything to do with tractors. Elmer was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parish and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Eagles Aerie 873 and the Steelworkers Union.

Elmer will be lovingly remembered by his family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Eloise (Ellie) Knutsen; and a sister, Sr. Mary Francis Hasty of St. Joseph's Order of Crookston.

Loving family members include his wife, Ilene; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Helen Hasty of Gilbert, Jeffrey and Lori Hasty of Farmington, and Norman Hasty of St. Paul; a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Mark Dalbec of Superior; 11 grandchildren; sisters and a brother-in-law, Sylvia and Daniel Ditter, and Pauline Tuseth, all of Minneapolis; a brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Rosemarie Hasty of Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home. Visitation continues from 9:30 until the 10:30 a.m. service Monday in Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. Interment in Calvary cemetery, Crookston.

Joseph A. Rojeski
Joseph A. Rojeski, 72, of McKinley died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.
Joe was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Virginia to Joseph and Rose (Prusak) Rojeski. He was a 1947 graduate of Virginia High School. He served our country as a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. On May 2, 1953, he married Frances Erchul in Gilbert. He worked for the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railway and Lake Mine prior to 1956, when he began working for Erie Mining Co. He worked there as a locomotive engineer until his retirement from LTV Mining Co. in 1987.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church of Biwabik and the George and Mark Klobuchar VFW Post of Gilbert. He also served on the McKinley Volunteer Fire Department and as a McKinley city councilman for several years. Joe also enjoyed volunteering his time to those in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers George and Stanley; sisters Lucille Kainula, Katherine Brennan, Marie Chalmers, Dorothy Arko and Rose Bastianelli; and grandson Brian DeLuca.

He is survived by his wife, Fran; son Rich (Addie) Rojeski of Chisholm; daughters Linda (Tom) DeLuca of Gilbert and Donna (Lee) DeFlorin of Cottage Grove, Minn; a brother, Robert Rojeski of Virginia; grandchildren Phillip and Candace Rojeski, Jennifer and Kelly DeLuca, and Adam and Matt DeFlorin; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Sunday with parish prayers at 7 p.m. in Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Gilbert. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gilbert, Father Thomas Bouchard as celebrant. Burial in Ft. Snelling National cemetery, Minneapolis. Military honors accorded by Gilbert VFW Post 4456.

Caroline G. Paysen
Caroline G. Paysen, 89, of Aitkin died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Aicota Health Care Center, Aitkin.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m. Sunday in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin. Visitation continues from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Monday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial in Bethlehem Lutheran Church cemetery. Arrangements by Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin.

Raymond Edwin Timonen
Raymond Edwin Timonen, 65, of Carlton died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, in his home.
He was born Aug. 12, 1935, in Beaver Township to Victor and Ida Esther (Soyring) Timonen. He grew up in Beaver Township and graduated from McGregor High School in 1953. Ray married Mary Gish Sept. 15, 1956, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moose Lake. They made their home in Kettle River where Raymond was self-employed hauling milk from 1953 until 1967. He attended the Duluth Area Vocational and Technical Institute for welding and went to work at Clyde Iron Works in Duluth in 1968. He moved to Carlton in 1969. In 1986, Ray went to work at Reach-All in Duluth and later for Barko Hydraulics in Superior where he retired from in 1997. Ray was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton and he enjoyed old cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Arne Timonen.

Ray is survived by his wife, Mary; children Jane (Randy) Willie of Carlton, Barb Hickey of Grand Forks, N.D., Gary Timonen and Debra (Scott Smith) Timonen, both of Duluth; grandchildren Daniel Willie of Minneapolis, Jenna Willie of Carlton, Andrea Hickey of Grand Forks and Nathan Hickey of Montgomery, Ala.; a brother, Rudolph Timonen of Moose Lake; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Sorenson of Sturgeon Lake.
Family will receive friends: 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Thursday in Bethesda Lutheran Church, 204 Fifth St., Carlton. Graveside service 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Beaver cemetery, Beaver Township.

Helen Klun
Helen Klun, 85, of Bemidji, Minn., and formerly of Tower died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001.
She is survived by a daughter, Cathlene (Joe) Vene; a son, Jerome (Ruth) Klun; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; four brothers; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation continues from 1 until the 2 p.m. service Tuesday in St. Martins Catholic Church, Tower. Burial in Lakeview cemetery, Tower.

Jean M. Pugel
Jean M. Pugel, 49, of Maplewood, Minn., died suddenly Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, in her home.
Survivors include her mother, Frances Pugel of Eveleth; sisters Joanne Salafia and Marilyn (Wallace) Tiedeman; and two nieces.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home, Eveleth, with rosary at 7 p.m. Service 10 a.m. Tuesday in Resurrection Catholic Church, Eveleth. Burial in Eveleth cemetery.

Lucija Zupancic
Lucija Zupancic, 83, of Gilbert died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in Eveleth.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Zupancic; a son, Louis (Jane) Zupancic; sisters Mary Bajda, Anna Gaspirc, Albina Belehar; grandchildren Lydia and Sonja; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 9 until the 10 a.m. funeral Mass Tuesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gilbert. Burial in Gilbert cemetery. Arrangements by Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home, Gilbert.

Gerald Warren Porter
Gerald Warren Porter, 78, of Cloquet died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, in Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton.
He was born Nov. 20, 1922, to Frank and Sophia (Zuelke) Porter in Bellingham, Minn. Gerald moved to Mahtowa in 1934. He graduated from Barnum High School in 1941. Gerald entered the Merchant Marines in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. He married Berit "Bea" Simonsen May 12, 1945, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. He worked for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 11. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Dalles Masonic Lodge 181 A.F.&A.M.;, AAD Temple and was currently on the board of directors and past president of the Viking Shrine Club, Big Lake Golf Club, and past president of the Ski Fleas. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and bowling.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Mikel Goblirsch; brothers Loren and Grant Porter; sisters Francis Porter and Birdell Schakey.

He is survived by his wife, Berit "Bea" Porter of Cloquet; a son, David G. (Jane) Porter of Bellingham, Wash.; a daughter, Dianna (Michael) Goblirsch of Coon Rapids, Minn.; a brother, Charles "Bud" Porter of Mahtowa; a sister, Velma Winkewicz; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Masonic Service: 9 a.m. Tuesday in Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.
Visitation: 11 a.m. until the noon memorial service Tuesday in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Cloquet. Private family inurnment will take place at Hillcrest cemetery, Cloquet. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.

Edward J. Snyder
Edward J. Snyder, 81, of Virginia died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, in the Waters of Park Point health care facility, Duluth.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. today in Range Funeral Home, Virginia, where it will continue from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, at which time a procession will leave the funeral home for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Virginia. Interment in Calvary cemetery, Virginia. Military honors accorded by the Virginia Color Guard.

Chad Wayne Beer
Chad Wayne Beer, 26, of Haines, Alaska, died Monday, July 30, 2001, when the flightseeing aircraft he was piloting was caught in sudden heavy fog and cloud cover and crashed on the Davidson Glacier near Haines, killing all on board.
He is survived by his fiance, Melissa Ward, and her son, Angelo; his parents, Cheryl and Bruce Mallum; a sister, Lisa (Gene) Storlie; a brother, Jacob "Jake" (Amber Ahonen) Mallum; maternal grandparents Florence and Gordon Beer; paternal grandfather, Maurice (Jan Hawkinson) Mallum; a niece, Miya Hazelann Storlie; his goddaughter, Alexus Jade Pellersels; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Service 1 p.m. Wednesday in Faith Baptist Church, Grand Rapids. Burial in Itasca-Calvary cemetery, Grand Rapids.

Linda Marie Berglund Stoner
Linda Marie Berglund Stoner, 52, of Grand Rapids and former longtime resident of Minneapolis died Thursday, July 26, 2001, in her home.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Stoner of Golden Valley, Minn.; her father, Edgar (Lois) Berglund of North St. Paul; sisters Donna Hegdah1 of Dallas and Debra Berglund of Phoenix; and a brother, Jeffry Berglund of Phoenix.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, in North Haven Church, North St. Paul, Minn. Burial in Itasca-Calvary cemetery, Grand Rapids. Arrangements by Rowe Funeral Home, Grand Rapids.

Brian William Huisinger
Brian William Huisinger, 43, of Kelsey died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, in St. Luke's hospital in Duluth after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Brian was born Nov. 14, 1957, to William and Eleanore (Engeseth) Huisinger in Cloquet. He graduated from Cloquet High School in 1976. He formerly worked at USG and Potlatch. He lived in Oklahoma for three years. Upon returning, he was employed by Lake Superior Paper. Brian enjoyed working with leather and his dogs, hunting, trapping and the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Nels Engeseth; and paternal grandparents Richard and Kate Huisinger.

He is survived by daughters Rachel Huisinger of St. Cloud, Minn., Jennifer and Allison Huisinger, both of Kelsey; his parents, William and Eleanore (Engeseth) Huisinger of Cloquet; sisters Kathleen (Jack) Hankey of Mustang, Okla., Julie (Milton) Zezulka of Barnum and Sue (Mark) Bauer of Cloquet; maternal grandmother, Ann Engeseth of Cloquet, Minn.; a special little boy, Jerid LaChappelle of Cloquet; special friends Jeff Montgomery and Marty Martinez; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Visitation: 6 until the 7 p.m. memorial service today in Nelson Funeral Care Chapel, Cloquet. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet.
