Joyce A. Morrison
Service: Friday, October 1, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Visitation: Thursday, September 30, 2010 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at West-Kjos Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00p.m.

Joyce Ann Morrison, 55, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota.

Joyce was born on January 14, 1955 to Richard and Marie (Gaynor) Kent in Detroit Lakes, MN. She was raised near Waubun, MN, graduating from Waubun high school in 1974. Joyce was united in marriage to Larry Morrison on June 8, 1974 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Ogema, MN.

They made their home in Moorhead, MN until moving to Chicago, IL in 1975, where Larry attended Illinois College of Optometry. While living in Chicago, Joyce worked in the radiology department at Michael Reese Hospital. They also started their family in Chicago with the births of Michael and Jessica. Joyce and Larry then moved to Thief River Falls, MN working at Falls Vision Clinic. Two years later in 1981, they moved to Mahnomen, MN, where they started Morrison Eye Care. Joyce was very active in Larry’s practice, whether it was doing the books or helping with their clients. Jason and Stephanie were born shortly after moving to Mahnomen. She played an active role in fundraisers for St. Michael’s Catholic School, helped with 4-H and was active in the Women of Today in Mahnomen. In 1986, they expanded Morrison Eye Care to Detroit Lakes and eventually built their home in rural Detroit Lakes in 2000. In 2004, their son Michael joined Morrison Eye Care. Joyce organized and was active in volunteer eye missions to third world countries with her husband, Larry. They went on twelve eye missions together.

Joyce was known as a master decorator, enjoyed gardening, was an excellent cook and baker, and a great hostess, especially for family Christmas gatherings at the Morrison’s residence. In her younger years she enjoyed playing softball and snowmobiling. Joyce also enjoyed bowling, scrapbooking, camping, fishing in Canada and Lake Michigan, and downhill skiing, especially when it included her children and grandchildren. Joyce enjoyed traveling and visited many different countries with Larry. Motorcycling also became a favorite activity and several cross country motorcycle trips were made in the last several years.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Larry Morrison of Detroit Lakes, MN; her children, Michael (Christina) Morrison of Detroit Lakes, MN; Jessica Campbell of Detroit Lakes, MN; Jason Morrison of Silverdale, WA; Stephanie Morrison of Detroit Lakes, MN; nine grandchildren, Jade, Aaron and Matthew Morrison, Zayne, Chayse and Breyah Campbell, Greenlee Victorino, Ava Morrison and Layla Leendertsen; her mother, Marie Kent of Detroit Lakes, MN; four brothers, Richard (Susan) Kent of Waubun, MN; Vincent (Cheryl) Kent of Detroit Lakes, MN; Dean (Kathy) Kent of Annandale, MN; Duane Kent of Bagley, MN; three sisters, Mary (Don) Neitzke of Wahpeton, ND; Yvonne (Joe) Walsh of Fridley, MN; Wanda (Dave) Riedberger of Rockford, MN; numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Richard Kent Sr., three brothers, Virgil, Errol and Edward, sister, Shirley Kent, niece, Theresa Kent.

Donald E. Carr
Service: Friday, December 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Visitation: Friday, December 17, 2010 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Donald E. Carr age 70 of Detroit Lakes, MN formerly of Barnesville, MN died Sunday December 12, 2010 at St. Mary’s Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes.

Donald Edward Carr was born on January 18, 1940 in Barnesville, MN to Kenneth and Edna Schmidt Carr. He grew up and attended school in Barnesville, MN. He then worked as a linesman for a power company. In 1969 he married Jane Johnson. They made their home in Barnesville. Don worked for Camrud & Foss Concrete in Moorhead, MN for several years. He later worked for Sun Valley Products in Hickson, ND. In 1992 he married Shirley Bladow. They lived in Barnesville for a short time before moving to Pearl Lake in rural Detroit Lakes. Don retired in 2003.

Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his dog Teddy.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, one son, Aaron (Laurie) Carr, of Barnesville, MN; one daughter, Mary Nosal, of Barnesville, MN; two stepsons, David (Debra) Priewe, of Richville, MN; and Raymond Priewe, of Detroit Lakes, MN; three stepdaughters, Karen (Larry) Oelfke, of Frazee, MN; Dorene (Bill) Groninga, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Julie (Jon Anderson) Bladow, of Lake Park, MN; Sixteen Grandchildren; Nine Great Grandchildren; three sisters, LoAnn (Andy) Skogen, of Barnesville, MN; Kay (George) Hedblum, of St. Paul, MN; and Dorine Moll, of Billings, MT.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Kenneth, Bill, Leslie, and Robert Carr; and a brother in law, Floyd Moll.

Ihlor K. Bjerke
Service: Monday, May 24, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Ihlor Kenneth Bjerke, 97, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, passed away on May 10, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Ihlor was born on March 26, 1913 in Ulen, Minnesota, to Cornelius and Mabel (Holte) Bjerke. He grew up in the Ulen area, where he spent his summers working as a farm hand, doing the field work with horses.

On October 22, 1939, Ihlor was united in marriage to LaVern Gunderson in Flom, Minnesota. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in October 2009. Ihlor worked at Pederson Grocery Store, until he bought Bjerke Locker Plant with his brother, Conn. He sold the business when ill health forced him to an early retirement.

While in Ulen, Ihlor was active in many community functions. He was instrumental in bringing attention to the Viking sword that was found near Ulen and also served as a Boy Scout Master, Ulen Village Council and Bethlehem Lutheran Church Council. Ihlor also found time to sing for the men’s chorus, church choir, duets and a quartet that went to a state competition.

Ihlor and LaVern retired to Strawberry Lake, where they spent time gardening, refinishing furniture and of course fishing. They loved to fish together, especially at night and were fortunate enough to catch many large walleye and northern pike.

Ihlor and LaVern spent nine years in Oregon, where they were active in Senior Citizen for Christ, going to nursing homes where Ihlor was able to sing his favorite songs and hymns about his Lord and Savior, when they returned to Detroit Lakes. They were active volunteers at Emmanuel Community. Ihlor was still able to sing at chapel services and special events at the age of ninety-seven.

Ihlor is survived by his wife, LaVern of Detroit Lakes, MN; daughter, Kathy Bjerke of Richwood, MN; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

Ihlor was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Darwin, his sister, Ruby Dunham and brother, Conn Bjerke.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Thank you to everyone who visited Ihlor at the nursing home and thank you to the caring and understanding staff at Emmanuel Community and Lamplighter Manor.

John H. Anderson
Service: A private family memorial service will be held at West-Kjos Funeral.

John H. Anderson, 77, of Detroit Lakes, formerly of Crookston, Minnesota, died on August 4, his birthday, surrounded by his family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

John Halvor Anderson, the son of Herman and Mildred (Halvorson) Anderson, was born on August 4, 1934, in Minot, North Dakota. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Nina and Judge Halvor Halvorson. He was educated in Minot, graduating from Minot High School in 1952. John continued his education, attending North Dakota State University. He met LuEtta Hanson at NDSU, and they were united in marriage on June 30, 1954 in Fargo, North Dakota. They were married for 57 years. John received his Business Administration Degree from NDSU in 1961.

John owned and operated Anderson Beverages Incorporated. in Crookston, Minnesota until his retirement in 2001. John and LuEtta enjoyed spending their winters in their home in SunLakes, Arizona, and spending time at their lake home on Lake Sallie with family during the summer.

John was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Elks, Eagles, and Lions Rotary Clubs, and Minakwa Country Club all of Crookston. He was also served on the board of the Minnesota Beer Wholesaler’s Association. John enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, classic car club, and restoring his 1952 Pontiac Sedan Delivery. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family.

John is survived by his wife, LuEtta of Detroit Lakes, MN; seven children, Rebecca Anderson (Mike Illg) of rural Detroit Lakes, MN; Gregory (Patricia) Anderson of Crookston, MN; Susan (Robert) Rohde of Gilbert, AZ; Greta (Jeffrey) Whelan of Crystal, ND; Brian (Kathy) Anderson of Crookston, MN; David Anderson of Tempe, AZ; Daniel (Stephanie) Anderson of Gilbert, AZ; nine grandchildren, Anna and Kate Whelan, Frances Anderson, Abbie and Jacob Anderson, Carson Rohde, Sophia Anderson, Jonathan and Macie Anderson; sister, Nancy Lium of Fargo, ND; two brothers-in-law, Del (Mary) Hanson of Detroit Lakes, MN and Dennis Hanson of Ohio; nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis Colliton and sister Sally Colliton.

Lillian R. Walker

Lillian R. Walker, 96, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, died Monday, January 18, 2010 at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Lillian was born on April 21, 1913, the daughter of Alvin and Lena (Schultz) Fathauer in Cleveland, Ohio. She was raised and educated in Cleveland. Lillian was united in marriage to Thomas Walker in 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio. The Walkers spent a few years in Chicago, and many summers in Vermillion, Ohio. In 1960, the Walkers moved to Westlake, Ohio. Lillian’s "Old Fashioned Cheesecake", and Lil’s "Glass and China Restoration", were a few of her many enterprises.

In her retirement years, she would spend six months with her son and family in Hawaii. She moved to Frazee, Minnesota in 2002 to live with her daughter and family. In 2007, Lillian entered St. Mary’s Nursing Center and resided there until the time of her death.

Lillian enjoyed collecting antiques, dancing, boating, swimming, playing piano and accordion. She was a great cook and loved to bake for her children and grandchildren.

Lillian is survived by her daughter, Teri (Ken) Miosek of Frazee, Minnesota; three sons, Charles (Dianne) Walker; of Circleville, Ohio; Daniel (Francine) Walker of Haleiwa, Hawaii; James (Kim) Walker of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania; seventeen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Lillian had one brother Alvin "Buster" Fathauer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Thomas (1976).

Evelyn M. Wedeman
Service: Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Audubon, Minnesota.

Visitation: Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota

Evelyn Mae Wedeman, 94, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota formerly of Downers Grove, IL, went to her heavenly home with the Lord on October 10, 2010. She died at St. Mary’s Innovis Health Detroit Lakes, MN surrounded by family.

Evelyn was born on August 16, 1916 to William and Edith (Renfranz) Beecher in South Bend, IN, and raised with one brother and two sisters. She graduated from Central High in 1934. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Albert Rosheck, in 1936, in South Bend. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Carol Anne, Laurna Mae, Johanna Sue and Lawrence Albert Jr. After the birth of their second child, the family moved to Downers Grove, IL. Her husband Lawrence Albert Rosheck died in 1969. Evelyn later married Herbert W. Wedeman in Downers Grove. For many years the couple owned and operated Sunbeam Roofing Company. In later years she was a volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital, filling her life with happiness.

Evelyn’s life and spirit were centered and grounded in her faith of Jesus as her Savior. Her years on earth gave witness to that faith throughout her life. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Downers Grove, participating in Bible study and quilting. She was a devoted reader of her Bible, newspaper, and favorite magazines. She was an avid letter writer to her family and friends. She often included a bible verse to mark a special occasion, a testament to her faith. She was a blessing to all the lives she touched. She enjoyed her travels with her husband Herbert, watching baseball and tending to her beloved cats. Her husband Herbert later became a resident at the nursing home in Glen Ellyn, IL. Evelyn moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, where she lived with her daughter Carol Gottenborg and became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Audubon, MN.

Evelyn is survived by her husband Herbert W. Wedeman, three daughters, Carol Anne Gottenborg, Detroit Lakes, MN, Laurna Mae (Brian) Thomas, Columbiana, AL, and Johanna Sue ( Lawrence) Mosher, Wilsonville, AL. She will be missed by her fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Lawrence Albert Rosheck and their son Lawrence Albert Rosheck Jr., her brother William Beecher, sisters, Bernice Beecher and Adelle Muncie. Blessed be her memory.
