Stanley V. Gunderson, 98

Stanley V. Gunderson, 98, of Hawley, MN, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 in Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.

Stanley Vincent Gunderson was born in Hawley, MN to Gilbert and Mabel (Mitchell) Gunderson on September 1, 1907. He moved with his parents to Hitterdal, graduating in 1925. He attended NDSU for one year. He married Mabel Knudson on November 17, 1935 at the Hawley Lutheran Church Parsonage, together they had three children. Stanley worked as a farm laborer in the rural Hawley area, he also farmed south of Hawley. He worked for the CCC in Idaho, for both the Moen and Sellin Brothers as well as a custodian for Ballard Hall at Minnesota State University, Moorhead. Stanley was also the Clerk for Eglon Township for many years. After retirement Stanley planted countless tress for the Soil Conservation in Clay County.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mabel Gunderson, Detroit Lakes, MN; one daughter, Dorothy (Dunnell) Miller, Webster, MN; two sons, Theodore "Ted" (Marlyss) Gunderson, Faribault, MN and Charles (Ruth) Gunderson, Detroit Lakes, MN; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Robert, Ralph and Francis Gunderson, three sisters, Grace Yates, Florence Sandal, and Dorothy Neumann.

Loren K. Pederson, 68
Died: Monday, May 22, 2006, in his home in Moorhead, MN.
Loren was born April 11, 1938 in Mahnomen, MN to Bennie and Fern Pederson. He grew up in Mahnomen and graduated from high school there. He received his Bachelors degree from Bemidji State University in Industrial Arts and taught for 5 years in Madison, MN. He worked for Branick Industries in Fargo as a draftsman, he later worked for Steiger Tractors as a designer, and retired from Phoenix International as a mechanical design engineer. Loren married Carole LaShomb July 1, 1967 in St. Paul, MN. He enjoyed woodworking, riding his motorcycle, and being active outdoors.

Loren was preceded in death by his father, Bennie; and his sister, Myrtle.

He is survived by his wife, Carole; his mother, Fern; brothers, David (Avonne); sister, Marlene (Bill) Lewis; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials preferred to the American Diabetes Association.

Idella M. Wyland, 92
Died: Sunday, June 19, 2005, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.
Idella M. Wyland died after a sudden illness on June 19, 2005 in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, Minnesota.

Idella M. Nelson, daughter of Nels Christian and Inga Nelson, was born October 15, 1912, in Minot, ND. She graduated from Minot High School and St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Minot. In 1932, she married Elmer Bick. She worked as a nurse at the Bowbells and Anamoose hospitals in North Dakota, and at St. Ansgar's Hospital in Moorhead, MN. She married Lester V. Wyland of Glyndon, MN on May 25, 1942. They farmed north of Glyndon until retiring in Moorhead and McAllen, Texas.

Idella was an avid birdwatcher and loved flowers, gardening, and nature. She was an active member of her church circle at Glyndon Lutheran Church, where she had many good friends. Travel was a big part of Idella's life. She and her husband, Les, were enthusiastic members in a Streamline camper club for many years, and were Texas snowbirds until recently. Friends and family were important to Idella, and she will be greatly missed.

Idella is survived by her husband, Les, of Moorhead, a daughter, Barbara Bick (Doug) Blair, of Ocean Shores, WA, a sister, Natalie (Larry) Bostow, of Grand Junction, CO, two grandchildren, Craig (Wendy) Blair, Glyndon, MN, and Tanya (Karl) Riebeling, Seattle, WA, and three great-grandchildren, Marissa and Ian Blair, Glyndon, MN, and Hans Riebeling, Seattle, WA. She and Les also raised three foster children, Kathy Nybo, Chicago, IL, Keith and Ernie Nybo, Lakeville, IN, and had five additional grandchildren, Cindy (Ed) Zellem, Dahlgren, VA, Jennifer and Thomas Campuzano, Chicago, IL, Alison (Dan) Dreibelbis and Jennifer (Randy) Reynolds, Plymouth, IN, and four great-grandchildren, Jack, Michael, and Susannah Zellen, Dahlgren, VA, and Cheyenne Dreibelbis, Plymouth, IN.

She is also survived by brothers-in-law, Rodney (Eunice) Wyland, Pelican Rapids, MN, Gordon (Lois) Wyland, Detroit Lakes, MN, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Idella was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, one sister-in-law, and five brothers-in-law.

James "Jim" DeVary, 46
Died: Sunday, October 16, 2005
Jim was born on September 24, 1959 in Minneapolis, MN the second of three children to Paul and Joann DeVary. He grew up and attended school in Battle Lake, MN. Following graduation Jim enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany. When he returned home he married Melanie Forderer on May 21, 1988 in Lisbon, ND. He was a Staff Sergeant with the Moorhead Army National Guard, unit HHC 2-136, which is currently deployed to Iraq. He was employed at Camp Ripley, MN where he was a full time tank mechanic. Jim was a devoted and loving father to his children.

Jim is survived by his wife, Melanie; two sons, Dustin and Alex; one daughter, April; one brother, John (Tana) DeVary, Jamestown, ND; and numerous relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sandra Sandahl.

Glenn A. Noben, 42
Died: Thursday, November 03, 2005
Glenn Allen Noben, the middle child of Elline (Seydel) and Charles Noben, was born February 2, 1963 in Detroit Lakes and grew up on the four-generation Noben family farm north of Lake Park.

Glenn attended Lake Park High School where he participated in several activities including football, basketball, track, band, and served as president of the student council. After graduating in 1981, he continued farming with his father Charles and later with with his younger brother Chris. Noben Farms raised wheat, barley, soybeans, hogs and cattle. Glenn and Chris were one of the initial farmers in Becker County to grow sugar beets for American Crystal Sugar.

Glenn was a member of Lake Park Lutheran Church and served on the Lake Park Co-op Elevator Board. His brief marriage ended in divorce.

Glenn's hobbies included golf, travel and watching sports. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends in his winter home in Mission, Texas. In the summer months he drove his 1968 Cadillac Convertible, complete with Texas Longhorns on the grill.

Glenn died of injuries of a one-vehicle roll-over in northwestern Becker County.

He was preceded in death by his mother Elline.

Glenn is survived by father Charles of Lake Park, sister Nancy (Konrad) Noben-Trauth of Rockville, MD and brother Chris of Lake Park.

Bennet O. Moen, 77

Bennet O. Moen, 77, of Hawley, died on Saturday, July 9, 2005 in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Bennet was born on October 15, 1927 in rural Fertile, MN to Melvin and Julia Moen. He grew up and attended school near Fertile. He enlisted in the Army in 1946 and served in Japan until being discharged in 1948. He worked in the Crookston area for a time until moving to Hawley and worked for Cargill for 25 years until his retirement.

Bennet married Ruth Tendeland on July 2, 1953 in Nielsville, MN.

Bennet enjoyed spending time with friends, gardening, and WMSTR.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; two sons, Brent (Kim) Moen, Hawley, MN, Jon (Cindy) Moen, Larimore, ND; three daughters, Sonja (Kevin) Teigen, Moorhead, MN, Beth (Bryon) Jorgenson, Lino Lakes, MN, Syneva (Jeff) Richardson, Dassel, MN; one brother, Thomas (Dorothy) Moen, Idaho Falls, ID; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marie Todahl; and one brother, Clarence Moen.

Donald H. Straight, 77

Donald H. Straight, 77, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, died on Monday, September 5, 2005, in the nursing home.

Donald was born on August 13, 1928, in Scambler Township, Ottertail County, MN. He grew up and attended school in Pelican Rapids, MN. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953, when he attended Molar Barber College in Minneapolis, MN. Donald married Annabelle Johnson on November 18, 1950 in Detroit Lakes, MN. They lived in Breckenridge, MN, for two years, before moving to Pelican Rapids, MN, where he owned the Riverside Barbershop from 1955 until 1977. They moved to Moorhead, MN, in 1978 and he worked at Moorhead State University until retiring in 1985 due to disability from Parkinson's disease.

Donald is survived by his wife, Annabelle, Moorhead, MN; one son Dean Straight, Honolulu, Hawaii; one daughter Julie (Sherne) Wadsworth, Stacy, MN; and one brother, Eugene (Elva) Straight, Golden Valley, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Oren and three sisters, Elsie Tolbert, Laura Tolbert and Grace Nelson.

Diane M. Osmundson, 76

Diane Marie Wasfaret was born on August 8, 1929, in Twin Valley, MN, to Gilman and Myrtle (Dalby) Wasfaret. She grew up and attended school in Felton, MN, and then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. She worked in Fargo prior to her marriage to Gilbert Osmundson on August 8, 1952, in Concordia Lutheran Church near Glyndon, MN. They made their home in Moorhead. She and Gilbert lived in Kentucky and Austria while he served in the U.S. Army. Diane enjoyed many years at Many Point Lake, and especially liked fishing and waterskiing. She had been a member of the Elkettes in Fargo.

Diane is survived by her husband, Gilbert, Moorhead; one son, Mark (Julie), Moorhead; two brothers, Gene Wasfaret, Moorhead, and Darryle (Orma) Wasfaret, Crossville, TN; one sister, Geraldine (Denis) Isrow, Fargo, ND; one granddaughter, Olivia Osmundson; a special sister-in-law, Beth. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Muriel and Delores; and three infant children.

Albert H. Vette, 83
Died: Friday, May 19, 2006, in ManorCare Health Systems, Fargo, ND.
Albert Vette, 83, Moorhead, MN, died on Friday, May 19, 2006, in Manorcare Nursing Home, Fargo, ND.

Albert was born on February 2, 1923, in Moorhead, MN, to Herman and Alma (Huppe) Vette. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead. He was baptized, confirmed, and a life-long member at Grace Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND. He entered the U.S. Army in May 1945 and was discharged in December of 1946. Albert married Irene Schmitt of Wishek, ND, on February 14, 1948. He farmed for his first three years on a farm northeast of Dilworth, MN. In 1951 they moved to what was known as the Concordia Farm. In 1971, they moved to Moorhead and continued to farm until 1978 when he retired. In retirement, they wintered in Texas, Arizona and California.

Albert is survived by two sons, Paul (Jeanie) Vette, Hugo, MN, and Kevin (Kristi) Vette, Rochester, MN; a brother, Leland (Eileen) Vette, Moorhead, MN; a sister, Helen Boen, Bismarck, ND; four grandchildren, John (Marisa) Vette, Bradley (Stefanie) Vette, Cindy (Scott) Swenson, Brian Vette.
