Bonnie Jensen, 61
Died: Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in Meritcare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Bonnie Jensen, 61, of Hawley, Minnesota, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.

Bonnie Knutson was born June 26, 1942 at Moorhead, Minnesota, to Clifford and Ruth (Norman) Knutson. She attended rural school and then Hawley High School. She lived in Glyndon until 1977 when she moved to Arizona, returning to Hawley in 1978, where she has since resided. She has been employed at Sunnyside Nursing Home in Lake Park, Minnesota for 19 years.

She is survived by two sons, Corey (Erin) Jensen, Hawley, MN, and Kevin Okke, West Fargo, ND; one daughter, Laurie (James) Cole, Hawley, MN; one brother, LeRoy (Ann) Knutson, Hawley, MN; six grandchildren

Roger C. Kragerud, 61
Died: Saturday, May 22, 2004, in his home in Hawley, MN.
Roger C. Kragerud, 61, of Hawley, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, May 22, 2004, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Roger was born August 5, 1942, the son of Pearl (Sandeen) and Irving Kragerud. He graduated from Hawley High School in 1960 and attended Mayville State College from 1960-1961. He enrolled and served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1965. He was employed by Hinrick Envelope and Hallett Construction from 1965-1968. Roger married Diana Cresap on July 6, 1968 at Hawley Lutheran Church. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies education from Moorhead State University in 1971. He was employed by the Springfield (MN) Public School District (1971-1972), Chokio-Alberta (MN) Public School District (1972-1983), and Hawley Public School District (1983-2002). He retired from teaching in May 2002. He was a dedicated teacher who received the Student Council Teacher of the Year Award and Outstanding Educator of the Year Award. He displayed a love for teaching and truly cared for each and every one of his students. Throughout his teaching career, Roger coached many sports including football, basketball, track and volleyball. He was a positive role model for many student athletes.

He was preceded in death by his father, Irving, and his mother, Pearl.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Kragerud, Hawley, MN; one son, Randy (Jana) Kragerud, Becker, MN; one daughter, Sara (Ryan) Koepp, Plymouth, MN; one sister, Marlys Wilson, Sterling, VA; one grandchild, Benjamin Kragerud; and several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts.

Roger was a gentle and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Family was his first love. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all.

Delbert A. Boyle Sr., 96
Died: Friday, July 9, 2004, in Eventide Lutheran Home.
Delbert Allen Boyle Sr., 96, died on June 9, 2004 at Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN. Delbert was born April 20, 1908 to Frank C. and Myrtle (Crompton-Krueger) Boyle in Wetonka, SD.

Delbert grew up and worked in the Wetonka, SD area. He married Isabel McAllen on September 21, 1925 in Ipswitch, SD. They farmed in the Wetonka area until they moved to Lockhart, MN in 1934. They farmed there until 1940 when they moved to a farm northeast of Felton, MN. They farmed there until 1946 when they moved to Felton and Delbert farmed a section of land Southeast of Felton. In 1957 Delbert had a stroke which caused him to have an auction of the farm machinery. Later he went into partnership with Algar Larson in a garage in Felton. After selling the garage, Delbert built and operated a grocery store and locker plant in Felton. He sold that in 1949 and bought the Felton Cafe. He and Isabel operated that until 1951. He then worked for area farmers until they moved to The Fairmont East Assisted Living apartments.

While living in Felton, Delbert was active in the Felton Community Club and took part in community plays, called for square dances and Bingo. He drove school bus for the Felton School system for many years and made many friends among the school children.

Delbert kept busy as a Senior Companion, operated a small "grocery store" at The Fairmont and called bingo every week. He was declared The Champion Bingo Caller from 1982-1989.

Isabel passed away in 1984. Delbert married Betty Hendrickson in 1986 and later divorced. In 1988 Delbert moved to The Living Center in the eventide complex and continued to call Bingo. He entered Eventide Nursing Home in 1996. Delbert enjoyed playing cards and would play whist and/or pinochle whenever a game could be arranged.

Delbert is survived by his daughter, Marie (Boyle-Miller) Penuel, Fargo, ND; two sons, Delbert A. (Jack) (Gloria) Boyle Jr., Detroit Lakes, MN and Delle D. Boyle, Kaukauna, WI; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great grandchildren.

Delbert was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two half-brothers, one half-sister, two brothers plus his twin brother, two granddaughters, Margo Ann Boyle and Marcia Vertin, and two sons.

Alvern Olson, 85
Died: Monday, May 3, 2004, in SCCI Hospital, Fargo.
Alvern Olson, 85, the Fairmont, Moorhead, MN, died on Monday, May 3, 2004, in S.C.C.I. Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Alvern Olson was born on July 3, 1918, in Moorhead, MN, to Alvin and Theodora (Olness) Olson. He grew up and attended rural school at Kragnes, MN, and graduated from Moorhead High School. Alvern joined the U.S. Air Force in 1942, served in WWII and retired in 1964 from the service after twenty two years as a propeller mechanic. He returned to Kragnes and worked at the Kragnes Farmer's Elevator, and took care of his mother following his father's death. He moved to the Fairmont in Moorhead in 1997.

Alvern is survived by one brother, Milton (Jean) Olson, Spokane, WA; and one sister, Ethel Boyd, Mooresville, N.C.

Richard G. "Dick" Lien, 80
Died: Saturday, April 17, 2004, in his home, under hospice care.
Richard George Lien was born November 19, 1923, to Bert and Leanor Lien at Amor, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Amor Lutheran Church, attended Amor County school and graduated in Battle Lake, Minnesota. Richard was married to Violet (Iverson) Lien for 58 years. Violet survives along with their six daughters and sons-in-law: Gail (Mark) Silverstein, Brooklyn Park, MN, Joan (Lonnie) Guenther, Northwood, ND, Marcia (Steven) Smith, Moorhead, MN, Paulette (Brant) Beeson, Detroit Lakes, MN, Rachel (Joel) Nikle, Fargo, ND, and Wanda (Rick) Stenerson, Fargo, ND. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Adam Richard Silverstein, Justin Lien Smith and Cullin James Smith, Becky (Chuck and son Tyler) Beeson Hermanson, Ricky, Joanna and Mike Beeson, Jacob, Leah and Alex Nikle and Jack Richard Stenerson. He is also survived by Violet's family, whom Dick considered his own . He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother. In his early years Dick was a Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes. Dick had one year of Army college and was a member of the U.S. Air Force. There he trained as a pilot and later gave each of his girls her first airplane ride. Dick worked for Libby McNeill & Libby for many years beginning in California in 1946. He transferred to Minneapolis, Fargo and to Moorhead. He worked for Seavy Florsheim for a few years until his retirement. Dick was a member of the Salesman Club, Toastmasters, Elks, American Legion and was on the council at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead where he had been a member for 45 years. The family enjoyed many camping trips together. Dick and Vi traveled all but two states, including a trip to Hawaii for their 50th wedding anniversary. Dick loved to hunt and fish, and he had many great trips in Minnesota and out west with his brother-in-law and nephew. Dick and Vi also enjoyed snowmobiling, but his true love was West McDonald Lake. There he would gather his family and continued to show-off waterskiiing until he was 70. Dick and Vi made their home in Moorhead for 50 years. Dick passed away on April 17, 2004, at home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Dick was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and a trusted friend.

Judith C. Nord, 96

Judith Cecelia Nord, 96, died Saturday, December 18, 2004 at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.

Judith was born November 21, 1908, in Wolverton, MN. She was one of fourteen children of Charles and Julia (Eklo) Nord, Swedish and Norwegian immigrants who were pioneer farmers in the Red River Valley.

Raised on the family farm, Judith was active in 4-H and graduated from Wolverton High School in 1926.

In 1929 Judith traveled from Wolverton with her mother Julia, sister Adella, brothers Winton and Willys to visit their sister Dagny in Puyallup, Washington. They traveled in a newly purchased 1929 Durant automobile, entirely on dirt roads, and camped along the way.

Judith graduated from Concordia College in 1931 with a BA in Home Economics. She put herself through college working as the caregiver for the children of the president of the college, while living in their home on campus.

After graduating, Judith taught home economics at the high school in Hallock, MN and later at the Ann Carlson School for Crippled Children in Jamestown, ND.

She joined the University of Minnesota Extension service in 1945 as the first Home Economics agent for West Ottertail County. She lived in Fergus Falls and was very active in supporting the county 4-H youth program and as a member of First Lutheran Church.

In 1957, Judith took a sabbatical leave to study for a year in Norway. She studied in several folk schools and lived in homes, learning traditional Norwegian cooking and home crafts, and acquainting herself with many relatives and Scandinavian countries. As a result, she was able to pass on the family's rich Scandinavian roots to her family members in America.

Judith was promoted to a full professor by the University of Minnesota in 1970, prior to her retirement in 1974. She traveled extensively during her retirement, including trips to China and Scandinavia.

Judith was deeply devoted to her family, frequently caring for her mother who lived on the family farm for 62 years until her death in 1955. She devoted her winters to visiting and later caring for her sister Dagny in Puyallup, Washington.

Judith moved to live at the Fairmont Home in Fargo, ND in 1993, and later moved to Eventide in Moorhead in 1999. She was a long time sufferer of Alzheimer's disease.

Judith is survived by nineteen nieces and nephews and their families. She lived life in joy and service to others and she will be deeply missed.

Memorials preferred to either Faith Lutheran Church, Wolverton, MN or the Minnesota 4-H Foundation, 200 Oak Street SE, Room 270, Minneapolis, MN 55455.

Gudrun S. Halvorson, 92
Died: Thursday, December 2, 2004, in her home under the care of hospice.
Gudrun S. Halvorson, of Hawley, Minnesota, passed away in her home at the age of 92, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and her loving son, Lloyd.

She went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 2, 2004, surrounded by her family.

Gudrun Synova Folden was born April 13, 1912, at Grygla, Minnesota, to Martin and Marie (Bartness) Folden. She was the ninth child of fourteen. She grew up in Minnesota, mainly Rollag, Minnesota, where she attended school, Sunday School and church. She married Lloyd H. Halvorson November 2, 1932 in Moorhead, Minnesota and nine children of her own. Gudrun worked as a cook at the Red Apple and Chefs Grill, and Romkey's Farm up until she retired.

Gudrun loved animals as she had many pets over the years, including at one time, a pig. She loved children too. There were always dogs, cats and kids running around the farm where she loved to be and was until her death.

She will be deeply missed but will be in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers, five sisters, her husband, Lloyd Sr., two sons, Donald and Robert, one daughter, Betty Lien, and one grandchild.

Gudrun is survived by three sons, Lloyd "Sonny" Halvorson, Hawley, MN, Ronald Halvorson, Hawley, MN, and DuWayne (Sheryl) Halvorson, Hitterdal, MN; three daughters, Mary Jane Gustufson, Fargo, ND, Sharon Peterson, Hawley, MN, and Dawn (Gene) Shaw, Hawley, MN; son-in-law, Denver Lien, Ada, MN; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, and best pal, Rocky.

A special thanks to Hospice and all the nurses who helped care for Gudrun, it was very much appreciated by her and her family.
