Robert Erickson, 93
Died: May 29, 2004, in Meritcare Hospital, Fargo
Robert was born on September 23, 1910 in Benson Co., ND to Lars and Anna Erickson. He grew up and attended school at Isabel school house in Benson Co.

Following school he moved to Duluth, MN and started driving for Greyhound which he did for 39 years until his retirement. He married Grace Osborne on June 19, 1936 in Duluth, MN. They lived in numerous places and have resided in Moorhead, MN for the majority of their lives until Robert's death.

He is survived by his wife Grace; two daughters, Kay Dell (Jim) Breyer, Fargo, ND, Roberta Erickson, Fergus Falls, MN; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard (Helen) Erickson, St. Anthony, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and four brothers.

Harry O. Jegtvig, 90

Harry O. Jegtvig, 90, of Moorhead, Minnesota, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Moorhead Health Care Center in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Harry O. Jegtvig was born November 30, 1913, at rural Hawley, Minnesota, to Edward and Annie (Omberg) Jegtvig. He was baptized and confirmed at Hegland Lutheran Church near Hawley. He grew up and attended school in Hawley. Harry was married to Alice Johnson on February 18, 1939 at Sisseton, South Dakota. He drove for twenty-four accident free years for Midwest Motor Express. After retirement he worked for American Crystal Sugar and for Koester Farm of rural Glyndon. Harry served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for duty during the Battle of the Bulge.

Harry enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing whist, and watching his favorite team the Minnesota Twins. He also learned to enjoy the Timberwolves in his later years. Driving truck and telling truck driving stories was passed on to his sons, who all followed his footsteps into the trucking industry. Working for Jim Koester on the farm also brought him great enjoyment.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, one son, Russell, two brothers, Alden and Kenneth Jegtvig, and three sisters, Verna Barker, Jewell Tangen and Gladys Kronbeck.

He is survived by four sons, Jerome (Karen) Jegtvig, rural Moorhead, MN, Virgil (Becky) Jegtvig, Glyndon, MN, and Merle (Loree) Jegtvig, Hawley, MN, Douglas (Marlene) Faus, Moorhead, MN; one brother, Roger (Adella) Jegtvig, Moorhead, MN; three sisters, Margie (Ogden) Ramstad, Hawley, MN, Edna Ohnstad, Moorhead, MN, and Ruth Treon, Oregon; nineteen grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren.

Greg G. Larson, 44
Died: Monday, October 4, 2004, in his home under the care of Hospice.
Greg Larson, 44, Moorhead died Monday, October 4, 2004 in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Gregory Gail Larson was born on September 23, 1960, in Garrison, ND, to Gail and Saundra (Fliginger) Larson. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, MN, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1978. He then attended Minnesota State Community and Technical College, graduating from the welding program before joining the North Dakota Air National Guard in Fargo, ND, where he was employed until the time of his death.

Greg married Brenda Frost on September 29, 1984, in Moorhead, MN, where they made their home and raised their two sons. Greg enjoyed coaching his sons in baseball and leading them in Boy Scouts. He loved watching hockey, especially his two favorite players, Gannon and Grant. Greg was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved taking his family to hunt in Kramer, ND. He was an active member of the F-M Curling Club and enjoyed snowmobiling and ice fishing as his winter hobbies.

Greg is survived by his wife, Brenda and two sons, Gannon and Grant, all at home in Moorhead; his father, Gail (Gloria) Larson, Garrison, ND; his grandfather, Harlan Fliginger, Garrison, ND; a brother, Gary (Kate) Larson, Garrison, ND; two sisters, Karla (Arlan) Swenson, Moorhead, MN, and Kristen (Marc) Hasbargen, Breckenridge, MN; an uncle (who was more like a brother) Tim (Kristi) Fliginger, Garrison, ND; niece, Arianna Larson; nephews, Samuel Larson, Tanner Swenson, Griffin Swenson, Riley Swenson and August Hasbargen. He was preceded in death by his mother, Saundra Larson; randmother, Olga Fliginger, grandparents, Glen and Nora Larson; and a special niece, Ashlee Theriault.

Hjordis E. Nelson, 92
Died: Tuesday, September 7, 2004, in St. Mary's Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Hjordis E. Nelson, 92, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at St. Mary's Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Hjordis Jacobson was born April 15, 1912 to George and Marie (Johanson) Jacobson at Lake Park, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school in Lake Park. She worked as a housekeeper in homes in Lake Park. She also worked at Carl's Lefse and the Hitterdal lefse factory. Hjordis married Arnold Nelson on June 29, 1937 at the Lake Park Parsonage. Following their marriage they farmed in the Hitterdal area until 1989, when they retired and moved to Lake Park. In 1991 they moved to Hawley, Minnesota, where they resided at the Viking Apartments. Arnold died July 31, 1992. Hjordis remained in Hawley until 2002 when she moved to the Pleasant View Apartments in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Hjordis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Audrey (Jim) Savig, Audubon, MN, and Diane (Robert) Bakke, Hawley, MN; one brother, Elward Jacobson, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two sisters, Alph Wenthin, Hawley, MN, and Gudrun Anderson, Moorhead, MN; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mary E. Richards, 89
Died: Sunday, January 16, 2005, in Unity Hospital, Fridley, MN.
Mary E. Richards, 89, of New Brighton, MN died Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN.

Born the oldest of three children, Mary was born October 6, 1915 to Ben and Ellen (Bengston) Nordquist in Moorhead, MN. She grew up and attended school in Sebeka, MN. Mary worked for Acme Dairy Farm on Wall Street. She married Roy Richards June 4, 1937 and they farmed in rural Moorhead. Mary was active in her garden club and North Buffalo Church. She loved painting, sewing and working on crafts with Roy. They retired from farming in 1978, maintaining their large vegetable and flower gardens. Roy passed away in 2000, after which Mary moved to New Brighton, MN and lived with her daughter.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy, daughter Ruth Ann, son Leroy, son in law Cal Eggers, and brothers Martin and Oscar.

Mary is survived by daughters Darlene (Merlyn) Deinhart of Mountlake Terrace, WA; Sue Eggers of New Brighton, MN; Debbie (Ray) Maas of Moorhead, MN; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and many dear nieces and nephews.

Gotfred Berg, 89
Died: Monday, June 21, 2004, in Hawley Senior Living.
Gotfred Berg was born October 17, 1914 at rural Lake Park, Minnesota to Carl and Hilda (Lundstrom) Berg. He attended rural school in District #10, near Lake Park, Minnesota. He married Gladys Skave June 24, 1937 at Lake Park, Minnesota. Following their marriage they farmed near Lake Park until 1963, then moved into Lake Park. He worked as a meat cutter for Holmgren's Red Owl in Lake Park, retiring in 1990. Glady's died March 28, 1994. In 1995 Gotfred moved to the Northside Terrace in Hawley, and in October 2003 moved to the Hawley Senior Living where he has since resided.

Gotfred died Monday, June 21, 2004, at the Hawley Senior Living, at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one grandchild, one brother and one sister.

He is survived by two sons, Curtis (Ardelle) Berg, Hawley, MN, and Jack (Sandy) Berg, Audubon, MN; two daughters, Bonnie (Gary) Friese, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Wanda (Dennis) Klaboe, Gilbert, MN; two sisters, Edith Hedstrom, Lake Park, MN, and Esther Ness, Lake Park, MN; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Esther C. Gray, 94

Esther Gray, 94, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN, died on March 26, 2004, in the nursing home.

Esther C. Simonson was born on October 12, 1909, near Kragnes, MN, to John and Emma (Nordquist) Simonson. She grew up there and attended rural school at Oakmound school. Esther married Ray Hohnadel on November 25, 1929. They made their home at Georgetown, MN, until retiring on Cotton Lake, near Detroit Lakes, MN. Ray died on November 25, 1969. Esther worked for Bergen's Floral in Detroit Lakes, MN, for several years. She married Harold Gray and they lived at Little Floyd lake near Detroit Lakes. Esther loved flower gardening, fishing, hunting and dancing.

She is survived by one son, James (Bessie) Hohnadel, Casselton, ND; two sisters, Nettie Salvhus, Riemer, MN, and Betty (Orlin) Enerson, Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Hohnadel, Hawley, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, son Mike Hohnadel, and five siblings, Clarence Simonson, Edwin Simonson, Liela Gee, Bennie Simonson and Clifford Simonson.

John E. Nansen, 65
Died: Tuesday, February 08, 2005, in his home.
John Edgar Nansen was born on December 6, 1939, near Winger, MN, to Edgar and Agnes (Lind) Nansen. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Erskine High School in 1957. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Seattle, Washington. He was discharged in 1961, and continued to serve in the Army Reserve. Upon his discharge, he returned to Winger, MN, for a brief time and then moved to Fargo, ND, where he went to work for F-M Jobbing Company. John married Arlene Olson on June 2, 1962, in Ness Lutheran Church in Gary, MN, and they made their home in Moorhead, MN. John was a kind, gentle and compassionate man with a great sense of humor. He never felt sorry for himself. He was a loving husband, caring father (always known as "Pops" to his kids). He enjoyed spending time at the lakes. He liked working with wood and collecting miniature tractors and equipment. He was a Christian who still knew God's presence, even when he was not able to make it to church. He will be especially missed by his faithful friend, Jessie.

John is survived by his wife, Arlene, Moorhead, MN; one son, Marti, Moorhead, MN; one sister, Darlene (Myron) Messelt. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Jeffrey and Jason, and two sisters, Jean Sorvig and Hallis Bakke.

Jessie M. Savre, 88
Died: Thursday, December 30, 2004, in the Evergreens Assisted Living, Moorhead, MN.
Jessie Savre, 88, Moorhead, MN, died in her home at The Evergreens on Thursday, December 30, 2004, under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Jessie Pierce was born on October 13, 1916, in Viborg, SD, to Earnest and Christiana "Sanna" Pierce. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Viborg High School. She attended St. John's School of Nursing in Fargo, ND, graduating as a Registered Nurse. Jessie worked as a nurse at St. John's Hospital in Fargo for a time. She married Edwin Savre on September 7, 1938, and they made their home in Moorhead, MN for all of their sixty six years of married life. She was a housewife and mother, but also was an artist and poet. One of her collections of unpublished poems is called "Buttered Crumbs". She also wrote and illustrated an unpublished children's book called Grandma's Mittens. She taught Sunday school at First Congregational Church, in Moorhead for many years. Jessie's children are very grateful for the feeling that she was always there for them. Ed and Jessie have lived in The Evergreens in Moorhead for the past year and one half.

Jessie's family wishes to thank the staff of The Evergreens and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the wonderful care they have provided.

Jessie is survived by her husband, Ed Savre, 512 3rd Avenue South, Moorhead, MN (The Evergreens), three sons, John (Diane), Roseville, MN, Chuck (Beth Anne) Long Beach, CA, and Joel, Moorhead, MN; three daughters, Sharon (Gary) Reynolds, Billings, MT, Joyce (Jim Hutt) Savre, Menlo Park, CA, and Judy (Walt Moricci) Savre, Erie, CO; one sister, Ruth (John) Miller, Canon City, CO; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that may memorials be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley, or to a charity of your choice.
