Of St. Paul died peacefully Tuesday June 18th surrounded by her loving husband of 56 years, Jerry, and all of her children. Mary Ann graduated from Derham Hall in 1953 and St. Catherine College in 1957 with a major in business. A long time member of Holy Spirit parish, Mary Ann served as a member of their board of education as well as countless other positions. There is nothing Mary Ann loved more than to be with her husband and children. She was an avid Twins fan, reader, and always looked forward to spending time at the cabin. Her giving spirit and love of life will be greatly missed. Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband Jerry, sister Kay, sister-in-law Donna (Tom) Winecke and spirited children: Pete, Pat, Bob (Carla), Richard (Sally), Michael "McGee", Tim, Ann, Katy (Brian) Barrett, Bill (Maribeth), 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Join us in celebrating Mary Ann's life on Monday June 24th at Holy Spirit Parish in St. Paul. 8:30-10:30am visitation, with a Catholic Mass at 10:30am. Luncheon immediately following. Age 85, of St. Paul passed away Peacefully on June 13, 2013 She will be missed by her loving sons and daughter, Bill (Beth) Resemius, Dan (Dawn) Resemius, Randy (Nadine), and Katherine (Mark) Shields; many grand and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends. Preceded by her husband, Walter D.; sons, Robert and John. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 17, 11AM at Elmhurst cemetery, 1510 North Dale Street, St. Paul, MN.

Geary, Wayne Emery

Wayne Emery Geary, 92, of Mankato, passed away Thursday morning June 13, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato Tuesday, June 25, at 11 a.m. with interment at Evergreen cemetery in Mantorville, MN. Wayne was born on May 8, 1921, to Wallie and Clara (Jacobsen) Geary in Douglas Township, Sac County, Iowa. The eldest of 10 children, he graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1938 and moved to West Concord, MN, in 1939. He married Geraldine Gesine Wartenberg September 5, 1941, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Owatonna, MN. Wayne joined the U.S. Army February 20, 1943, and served in the Northern Solomons, Luzon and the Philippines as tank commander, Company C 754th Tank Battalion. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation ribbon with Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He very much appreciated and was thankful to be part of the Honor Flight in October 2011 honoring World War II veterans with a trip to the WWII Veterans Memorial in Washington DC. Thanks Dr. Jan Meyer and all of you who are making the honor flights possible. After discharge in 1945, Wayne joined the Botsford Lumber Company in Claremont, MN, and continued working in the retail lumber business in Slayton, MN, Owatonna, MN, Balaton, MN (serving as Mayor of Balaton in the mid 50's), and in Mankato at Lloyd Lumber where he continued to work part time after his retirement in 1986.
Wayne is survived by his son Richard of Oceanside, CA, brother Elwood (Wava) of Corwith, IA, sister Darlene (Norm Kolbe) of Sac City, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2008 and sons Donald in 1995 and Robert in 2011.

Westfall, Kevin Michael age 55, Excelsior, MN, died on June 11, 2013, after a long struggle with cancer. Kevin was a proud, loving father, a beloved son, brother, and uncle. He and Cindy, his significant other, shared a long and loving relationship. Kevin was a hard worker and took pride in what he did. He had a passion for music, enjoyed sports, and especially loved the outdoors. His strong will and sense of humor were well known to others. He will be greatly missed. Survived by Cindy Uran, significant other; son, Dean Westfall, Red Wing, MN; mother and stepfather, Norma and Tom Abbott, Iowa City, IA; brother, Craig (Tami) Westfall, Iowa City, IA; stepbrother, Todd Abbott, Cedar Rapids, IA; nieces, Renee Westfall, Iowa City, IA, Tiffaney Tafallo (David), Omaha, NE; nephew, Ian (Sami) Westfall, Tucson, AZ; and grandnieces, Alyssa and Bailey. Kevin was preceded in death by his brother, Robert; grandparents, Emil and Frances Reyhons, Florence Abbott; and father, Raymond. A memorial service will be held for Kevin on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 3:00 PM at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 715 Minnetonka Mills Road, Hopkins, MN. A gathering to celebrate his life will immediately follow at his home in Excelsior. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Will be missed by brother, Robert (Grace) Bergevin; nephews & nieces, Scott (Sandy) Bergevin, Lisa (Myron) Halvorson, Jay (Suzanne) Bergevin, Joel (Rebecca) Bergevin, Karen Houle, Julie (Mike) Walker, Margaret (Ed) Coutant, and Susan (Partick) Dressel. Preceded by her parents, Albert & Margaret; siblings, Margaret (Mark) Adams, Betty (Slim) Anderson, and John (Libby) Bergevin. Inurnment at Calvary cemetery, Forest Lake, MN. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 525 Jackson Street, Anoka, MN 55303 on Thursday, June 20, 11 AM with a gathering at 10 AM at church.

Koch, Douglas Paul

Age 60 July 17, 1952 ~ June 11, 2013 Born in Portland, OR and died in St. Paul, MN of Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). He graduated from Benson HS in 1971 and spent 25 years as a custom cabinet maker, then founded Structures and Interiors Remodeling and Consulting. Douglas was a Renaissance man who loved art, music, travel, NPR, classic cars, and the beauty of the Pacific NW. Douglas lived with ALS for 9 years with incredible humor and patience. He married Jackie Bohrer in 2008 & they created a home in St. Paul. He is preceded in death by his father & two brothers. He is survived by his wife; his mother, Barbara; Children Craig, Allison (Chris), and granddaughter, Clementine; four siblings and his Oregon extended family. Memorials preferred to ALSTDI; dedicated to ALS. Memorial service June 23 at 6 pm at the Province Chapel of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1880 Randolph Ave, St. Paul.

Karen Elaine Smithey Schweighardt died at her home in Faribault, Minn. on Monday, May 27, 2013. She was born April 15, 1941, to George D. and Marian Rahn Smithey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Allen, in June of 2012. Karen was a lifelong homemaker who traveled with her husband throughout the United States during his work as a construction superintendent. Her joy was was in making a home for her husband, and her heart was in helping young women in need. She loved antiques and was a voracious reader. Karen is survived by her daughter Nikki (Mark) Ingemi and grandson Troy; daughter Kim Schweighardt and grandson Derek; as well as sister Mary (Jon) Phillips of Omaha, Neb. and brother Jerald (Lisa) Smithey of Iowa City, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

Age 61 of Columbia Heights, passed away on May 26, 2013 after a brief illness. He served in the US Army for 21 years. After he retired from the Army, Stephen worked military contracts for multiple companies overseas. He will be missed by his loving wife, Doris (nee Thomas); children, Christopher & Jenna (Lyn) Bishop; granddaughter, Mia Lyn Bishop; siblings, Daniel (Robin), Jim (Marylou), and Nancy (Barry); godson, Pat (Jodi); Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Nephews and other family and friends who loved him deeply. He will be interred at Fort Snelling National cemetery, Friday, Aug. 9th at 10:45 AM with military honors. Meet at Assembly Area #2 in the cemetery.
