Age 91 of North Oaks. Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother Lived 91 years with grace and love. Preceded by her brothers, Felix and Douglas. Sue graduated from James A. Gray HS in Winston-Salem. After becoming a registered nurse she went on to the University of Pennsylvania for graduate training. During WWII she took that training and worked as a nurse at Morehead City, NC, caring for military troops who were stationed at the bases in the area. She met her husband, Dick, while walking down a street in Morehead. He jumped from a car at a stoplight to meet his beautiful redhead, and thus began 66 years of marriage. They moved to Duluth, MN and had three children, Sarah Bergstedt (Tim), Roger (Kit), and Susan Oberg (Craig). Sue is also loved by nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. All will miss her lullaby, Six Fat Ducks, her amazing violets and orchids, and the beautiful birds that visited her feeders every day. We all will smile when we remember her Loon call on the dock of Lake Vermillion and her expressions for almost every occasion. "For Heaven's Sakes" and "Bless your Heart," both were delivered with a slight southern drawl. Sue and Dick traveled often by RV, river cruises, air, houseboat, and train. They saw every state in the US during their travels. They also loved their fishing trips to Canada. You could always count on Sue to catch the biggest fish much to Dick's dismay. But all would be forgotten after eating the fresh trout cooked skillfully by his bride. Sue loved all God's creatures and encouraged her children and grandchildren to do the same. There were dogs, birds, and even a pet raccoon that had taken up residence in their home. Her favorite and constant companion was a black poodle, Grindle. You couldn't mention Sue without speaking of the devoted friendship between the two of them. We just know that Grindle was waiting on the rainbow bridge when Mom arrived. We will celebrate Mom's life on Friday, June 13, 10:30AM at Waverly Gardens, 5919 Centerville Rd., North Oaks, MN. We want to thank the staff at Waverly Gardens for their love and care, the Healtheast Hospice Team, and most especially Dr. Sandra Coffin for her compassion and care.
