Kincannon, Gayle Erika (nee Mattson)

Age 79 of Green Valley, AZ and formerly of Chaska, MN, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2014 following a battle with cancer. Gayle was a beloved wife, mother, friend, and public servant. Gayle was born on April 5, 1934 to Eric & Helen Mattson in St. Paul, MN. She began her professional career in 1955 as an occupational therapist supervisor and instructor with the University of Minnesota Hospitals. During her 23 years in public service (1968-1991), she spent eleven years as a member of the school board for School District 112, serving for the last five years as its chair. Gayle also served on the Land Use Advisory Committee of the Metropolitan Council; as the Metropolitan Transit Commissioner for the southwestern suburbs; on the Steering Committee of Minnesota Elected Women Officials; as a member of the Policy and Planning Committee of the American Public Transit Association; and as the Executive Director for the Jonathan Association. Her excellence and dedication to service were widely recognized by her peers including the "Service above Self" Rotary Award from City of Chaska in 1983, the "Mary Smith Daisy Award" from the League of Women Voters in 1993, and the "Apple Award" from The Jonathan Association in 2009. Gayle was noted for her ability to listen to her constituents and her dedication to making the City of Chaska and the metropolitan suburbs of Minneapolis a better and more livable environment. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 54 years, Jim; her children John, Laura, and Tricia, her grandchildren, and the many thousands of people whose lives she touched during her career of public service. A Memorial Gathering will be at Bertas Funeral Home, 200 W. 3rd St., Chaska on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1:00 PM followed by a reception at Oak Ridge in Chaska. Memorials preferred to donor's favorite charity.

Age 84 of Hastings, MN, passed away from ALS on Dec. 31, 2013. He was born on May 20, 1929 in Hallock, MN to Victor & Margaret Nelson. He is survived by his wife Delia; stepchildren Sean (Lisa) Simmons, Kris (Ken) Schetina & Michelle Thomas; his twin brother Dennis Nelson; sister Marge Schauble; & numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He graduated from high school in Lake Bronson, MN in 1947. He and his brother joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served during the Korean War. After serving in the Navy he started an apprenticeship at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. He worked at the shipyard until he retired as a Ships Scheduler Supervisor in 1984. He moved to Hastings, MN after his first wife Laura passed away in Port Orchard, WA in 1990. In 1991 he was married
to Delia Simmons. Don was a longtime member of the American Legion & Veterans of Foreign Wars. At one time he was the commander of VFW Post 1210 & for many years he participated as an honor guard member. His hobbies included ham radio operation for over 30 years as well as traveling to stay connected with friends & family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at St. Philip's Lutheran Church in Hastings with visitation at 10:00, service at 11:00 & a luncheon to follow.

Age 59 of St. Louis Park, passed away peacefully surrounded by his friends and family on December 24, 2013. preceded in death by his father. Survived by wife, Lori; sons, Billy and Scott; mother, Rita; brother, Dave; sisters, Paula, Mary, Joan, and Amy; many other relatives and friends. Jay will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and faithful friend. His humor and compassion will be remembered and cherished by those who knew him. Jay worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 2010. He was working part time at Guardsmark Security. Funeral service will be held Monday, 11 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 313 East Second Street, Jordan, MN, with visitation at 10 AM. Marlene spent her childhood in Wilmington, DE and worked as an art dealer for 35 years as co-owner of MJL Impressions. Tony will lovingly remembered by his wife Dianne of 44 years, his three children - Matthew of Gray, TN, Sarah of Spring, TX, and Jonathan of Seattle, WA, three grandchildren - Hunter, Caitlin, and John, and six sisters - Ruth Anderson of Kimball, SD, Elaine Konechne of Kimball, SD, Joyce Millage of Rapid City, SD, Eva Mommer of Eden Prairie, MN, Janet Gray of Wichita, KS, Grace Lubben of Overland Park, KS. In 1963, Tony enlisted in the United States Air Force and served 4 years. Tony worked for ITT Corporation on a contract with the Air Force for the Distant Early Warning Line (DEW Line) from 1969-1994. Tony was a devoted Christian who loved his Lord. A memorial service will be held in the Spring.

Gene was a spirited child, loving father and an entrepreneur he began building DEERLAND ZOO in 1962 with his Mother and Father and maintained the family business until he sold it in 2000. An unforgettable person - Gene was a charmer who enjoyed animals, fishing, travelling, and loved to make people laugh. He is survived by: Three sons; Gary (Gina) Tank of Pillager, MN, Greg Tank of St. Cloud, MN, Gerry (Kritsana) Tank of Oakland, CA, One sister Faye (Edward) Knickmeier of Las Vegas, NV, 7 grandchildren and 5 nieces.
