Age 72 of Minneapolis, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015. preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Gladys Kair. Survived by his chil-dren, Victoria (Tony) Gleason, Jacquelina (Steve) Mohr, Bradley (Anastasia) Kair; grandchildren Nicholas & Matthew Gleason; Sophia, Asher & Boaz Kair; ex-wife, Jan Kair. Russ was born in Sioux City, Iowa. After graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a 3rd Class Aviation Airman (AE3) with honorable dis-charge. A private family interment will be held April 16, 2015 at Fort Snelling National cemetery, Mpls.

Funk, Henry G.
July 30, 1927 - February 9, 2015
Age 87 of Sugar Grove, IL, passed away in Maplewood, Minnesota, February 9, 2015, after a battle with dementia and health related problems. Henry was born in Aurora, Illinois, on July 30, 1927. He grew up in Aurora, and worked in the family pharmacy until his graduation from West Aurora High School. After high school, he entered the Army and served as a medical corpsman in occupied Italy right after WWII. Upon discharge, he entered the University of Illinois, and graduated with a degree in pharmacy. Henry was a 3rd generation pharmacist. His mother's father, Henry's grandfather, started Grimm's pharmacy in Aurora, in 1889. His father and older brother, Herbert were also pharmacists. Henry was a great entrepreneur. He was always looking for new business opportunities. With Herbert, they opened 3 more Grimm's Pharmacies in the Fox Valley. The first was in the Valley Shopping center in St. Charles, which opened in 1957. Then came the store in Montgomery, in the Boulder Hill Center, which opened in 1963, and one more location by Mercy Hospital in Aurora. Henry used these businesses as a spring board to launch his many business adventures and hobbies. Some of which were: Photo Huts, Grimm's Hallmark stores, Main Street Car Wash, and other real estate properties. Henry married Gloria Worrell in 1952, and moved to Oswego, in 1960. They had 4 children together. Henry had many activities outside of the pharmacy. He enjoyed his summers at Kelly Lake, Wisconsin, at the family cottage with his family, mother, sister and brother. He bought a farm in Suring Wisconsin, close to the cottage and loved getting up there as much as possible, all year long, working with the pigs and cattle. He had a love of flying and got his private pilot's license, he even had a landing strip put on the farm, so he could fly and land at the farm. Henry also loved giving back to the community. He was very active for many decades with the Rotary Club of Aurora (a past president), the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce and many local charities. Henry loved the St. Charles community! Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert E. and Margaret Funk; his brother, Herbert Funk; his sisters, Dorothy White, and Gloria Funk. He is survived by his children, Kim Funk of Batavia, IL, Tom Funk of Montgomery, IL, Karen (Funk) McMahon of Dellwood, MN, and Bill Funk of St. Charles, IL; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service and celebration of Henry's life will be held at New England Church on Galena Blvd. in Aurora, on Sunday, March 8, 2015, at 1:30 p.m.

Age 61 of Roberts, WI, passed away after a long battle with cancer on February 8, 2015. preceded in death by parents Warren and Ruth Folks. Survived by wife of 36 years, Debra (Melom) Folks; daughters Becky Knaack (Willie) and Carrie Folks; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Claire, Will and Sarah; and brothers Bill Folks (Nancy) and Mike Folks (Kathy). Retired from the Star Tribune in 2009, Bob pursued his passions: motorcycle trips with friends, restoring and joyriding in his '54 Chevy truck, and working outside with his tractors. He will always be remembered for his lifestyle of faith, loyal friendship and sense of humor. Celebration of Life 11 a.m., Friday, February 13, at Eagle Brook Church, 2401 East Buffalo Street, White Bear Lake, MN; visitation one hour prior to service.

Age 69 of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away peacefully at home on February 7, 2015. Will be missed by loving wife, Nancy; daughters, Lonnie (Jeff) Wilson & Christi (Derek) Simonson; step-children, Cheri, John, and Chad; mother, Bertha; brother, Stewart (Cheryl); many grand and great grandchildren; other loving family and friends. Preceded by his father, George; and brother, Gary. Vietnam Marine Veteran. Loved both outdoor and recreational sports. His sense of humor will be forever cherished. Respecting his wishes, no services will be held.

Knott, Ellajane (nee Rist)

Age 89 of New Brighton, MN passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Mercy Hospital from natural causes surrounded by family. She is preceded in death by husband, Gordon, Sr.; brothers, James & Robert Rist; and son, Robert. Survived by sons. Gordon, Jr. & Tom; niece, Cassandra Salo; grandchildren; and beloved dog, Danny. Born on April 21, 1925 to James Arthur & Mary Ann Rist in Velva, North Dakota, precocious Ellajane was the youngest of five siblings. Working by age 10, she later founded the Twin Cities Models Guild and fund-raised for worthy causes. Her passion for people and endless creativity led to her dream career in Special Events, Journalism & PR. Ellajane’s deep love and respect for family was her hallmark. She faithfully nursed her husband until his passing and offered endless support to all. Family members Gordon & Jackie Knott and Cassandra & Gina Salo were by her side in her final weeks. Her ashes will be buried with husband, Gordon Knott, during a private service at Fort Snelling National cemetery in Minneapolis. Please send memorial donations to: www.k9sforwarriors.org.

Wingfield, Diane Gilbert (nee Reissner) "Skippy"
June 29, 1928 - April 19, 2015
Age 86, of Birchwood Village Went to the Happy (Bargain) Hunting Grounds April 19. She loved finding a deal and was an inaugural SPPP Store Trooper. A child of the Depression, she reused, re-purposed, recycled long before it was cool. Regaled her family with stories of growing up on the Mississippi in Hastings--working in the family meat market, rescuing furry critters, and playing at the Humm's Chinese laundry with best friend Carla Reichenburg. Survived two bouts of rheumatic fever as a child to marry Duke in 1953, then coaxed another 62 years of adventures out her frail heart. She traveled the world over. Despite the allure of Paris, she was happy to always come home to Birchwood. Never bored a day in her life, she was a dedicated philatelist and long-time volunteer treasurer for St John's Episcopal Church Women, Finders Keepers Antique Club and Birchwood Community Club. She loved Scrabble and killer seven letter words; bridge not so much. She taught her kids to think independently, but failed to teach them to appreciate Shakespeare or beef liver. Predeceased by husband of 52 years, Harold "Duke"; survived by children David (Alice Roberts), Jeff (Ellen) and Mary; grandchildren, Sarah (Eric), Kierna (Jeff), Liam (Stephie), Patrick, and Max; great grandchildren Otto and Cael; brother Fred Reissner and roommates Jacques LeMieux and Buster Brown. Special thanks to friends Claudia and Greg Beckman for their incredibly generous care and support in Mom's last months. Memorial Service 10 AM Thursday, April 23, St John in the Wilderness, 2175 First St, White Bear Lake, MN. Memorials preferred to Animal Ark, Birchwood Community Club or donor's choice.

Sater, Sam Michael
September 20, 1984 - April 17, 2015
Age 30 of Minneapolis, died Friday, April 17th 2015 in Minneapolis, MN. He was born September 20th, 1984. He grew up in Backus, MN, attended Backus Elementary School, and graduated from Pine River High School, class of 2003. Sam enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard at the age of 17, served from 2002-2013, and completed two active duty tours in Iraq and Kuwait. He was proud to have not only served during some of the most difficult years of the war but also to have been able to escort some of the last American troops safely out of combat during the drawdown of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In addition to his military service, Sam was an avid scholar, studying for his Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. He sought to use his life experiences and academic study in service to others, first through an internship at the Hennepin County Home School for juvenile offenders and later through his work as a Veterans Advocate for the Minnesota Department of Corrections, helping to reintegrate incarcerated veterans. Sam was a hard worker, known for his quick wit, sense of humor, love of Tabasco, gifted writing, taste for bad pop music, delicious guacamole, and for his habit of cleaning his mom’s kitchen each time he visited her. He loved family dinners, spending time with friends, and his dog, Ryu. Sam was preceded in death by his mother, Dian and his grandfathers, Duane Scribner and Clayton Holt. Sam is survived by his parents, Scott and Lisa Sater; brother, Kelly Sater; sisters, Brenna MacDonald and Annette Holt Scribner, and a multitude of other family members and friends who loved and supported him. A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM on Sat., May 2 at University Lutheran Church of Hope, 601-13th Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN. Private Interment at Ft. Snelling National cemetery.
