February 10, 1925 - May 13, 2015
Age 90 of New Hope, returned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the age of 90. She was blessed with a long and full life. Marilyn was born to parents Ernest and Clara Horn on February 10, 1925 in Chicago, IL. She grew up as the eldest of six children. In 2005, Marilyn self-published a booklet, Growing Up Horn on the Northwest Side of Chicago. If you would like the link to her publication to learn more about her family and their experiences, contact her daughter at peggylepage@gmail.com. Marilyn married George Davis on Aug. 14, 1943 in Waukegan, IL before he left to serve in the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. Upon his return, they settled in Peoria, IL and began their family. In 1953, the couple and their two children moved to Minnesota and, eventually, purchased their dream home in New Hope where Marilyn resided for 51 years. Marilyn's early married life was complicated by tuberculosis which necessitated she spend several years in and out of care facilities. During her hospitalization at Glen Lake Sanitarium, she nearly died from the illness. She felt her survival was solely due to her doctor's daring decision to perform bilateral lung surgery to remove the diseased tissue. After surgery, Marilyn slowly regained her health and returned to raising her two children and begin challenging her husband's ideas that women should not work outside of the home or drive a car. At age 30, she got her driver's license and went on to work many years as a self-educated bookkeeper. One of Marilyn's favorite roles in life was being a grandmother to her three grandsons. She was a very important person in their lives. She lived long enough to enjoy her four "darling" great grandchildren. Over the years, Marilyn loved to play golf, participate in Bible study with her prayer group, play cards with the ladies, tutor at Meadow Lake School, and travel. She was well known for her afternoon get-togethers for her lady friends; lovely decor, excellent food, and lots of laugher! Marilyn will be missed by her daughter, Peggy LePage (Jeff); her son, Don Davis; her brothers Robert (Mai) Horn and Kenneth Horn Sr.; her sister, Lois (John) Gragnola; grandchildren, Scott (Jeanne) and Clint (Kim); four great-grand-children Jacob, Jordan, Cassie, and Bailey; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was reunited with her parents; infant brother, Thomas, her husband, George; her stillborn son; her beloved grandson, Alan; her brother, Ernie; her nephew and Godson, Jeff, her sister-in-law, Toni; and many friends. A celebration of Marilyn's life will occur on Saturday, June 6th at 10 a.m. in the Gleneagles Room at Edinburgh Golf Course, 8700 Edinbrook Crossing, Brooklyn Park, MN 55443. A champagne brunch will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marilyn's name to the North Hennepin Community College Foundation to be contributed to the Alan LePage Second Chance Scholarship. Memorials may be sent to NHCC Foundation c/o Jennifer Summer Lambrecht, 7411 85th Ave N, Brooklyn Park, MN 55445 or made online at nhcc.edu/.
