Sr. Irene Danielson
KENNEDY, Minn. -- Sr. Irene L. Danielson, 87, Minneapolis, formerly of Kennedy, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in Augustana Home, Minneapolis.
Irene L. Danielson was born April 17, 1913, the daughter of Charles and Alma (Nelson) Danielson, in Kennedy. She belonged to the Deaconess Community of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. She was the retired director of nursing at Augustana in Minneapolis and Emmanuel Deaconess in Omaha, Neb.
She is survived by sisters Anna Muney, Minneapolis, and Florence Willadson, Hallock.
Graveside Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Greenwood cemetery, Hallock (Hughes, Hallock).
William Anderson
HALLOCK, Minn. -- William "Barber Bill" Anderson, 94, Hallock, formerly of Kennedy, Minn., died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock.
William A. Anderson was born Feb. 10, 1906, the son of Samual and Christine (Vik) Anderson, in Beaton, Minn. He attended school in Lake Bronson, Minn. He attended Twin City Barber College, Minneapolis. He married
Margaret Rynning on Aug. 31, 1941, in Kennedy. He owned a barber shop in Kennedy for 41 years. In 1959, they moved to Hallock. He retired in 1975.
He is survived by his wife; and a sister-in-law, Sarah Anderson.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Hjalmer, Albert, Fred, and Herbert; and sisters, Selma, Carrie, Julia, Betsy, and Esther.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy (Hughes, Hallock).
Donald Cary
TWIN VALLEY, Minn. -- Donald Cary, 78, Moorhead, formerly of Twin Valley, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in Minnesota Veterans Home, Fergus Falls. Minn.
Donald Orval Cary was born July 10, 1922, the son of Ira and Lillie (Smith) Cary, in Ulen, Minn., where he graduated from high school in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He married
Eunice Fevig on July 14, 1956, in Ulen. They lived in Twin Valley, where he sold real estate, set up distributors for the Viking Snowmobile Co., and was an auctioneer. In 1975 he bought Evergreen Resort on Tulaby Lake. He drove school bus for Twin Valley school system. He ran a bus service to the Shooting Star Casino, Mahnomen, in the 1990s, until he retired in the mid-1990s.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Dale (Kay), Moorhead; three grandchildren; and brothers, Kermit, Blue Earth, Minn., Harold (Eileen), Lake Park, Minn., and Russell (Frances), Valley City, N.D.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; and brothers, Cecil, Leslie, and Lowell.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley.
Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, Twin Valley, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Zion Lutheran cemetery.
Military rites: Twin Valley American Legion Nesseth-Lien Post No. 431.
Rita Noaeill
CLEARBROOK, Minn. -- Rita Noaeill, 76, Clearbrook, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji, due to injuries suffered in an auto accident.
Rita Stapleton was born April 2, 1924, the daughter of Patrick and Mary Stapleton, in Bemidji, where she attended school. She worked at Glass Block Drug. She married
William "Bill" Noaeill on March 29, 1948, in Bemidji. They moved to Cass Lake, Minn., in 1949, and to Gonvick, Minn., in 1955. In 1959, she moved to Clearbrook. She worked as a kitchen helper at the Clearbrook-Gonvick School. William Noaeill died July 23, 1995.
She is survived by daughters, Mary (James) Gustafson, Clearbrook, Kathleen (Steve) Scholz, Eagan, Minn., Peggy (Dave) Russell, McCord Air Force Base, Wash., and Suzanne (Randy) Ness, Maplewood, Minn.; sons, Patrick (Sylvia) Noaeill, Virginia Beach, Va., and Marc (Penny) Noailles, Portland, Ore.; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Marcella Stapleton, San Francisco.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bagley, Minn.
Visitation: 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. rosary, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Holy Cross Catholic cemetery, Bemidji.
Marion Gusa
MIDDLE RIVER, Minn. -- Marion L. Gusa, 75, Middle River, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in Golden Oaks Nursing Home, Hermantown, Minn.
Marion Lucille Backlund was born April 11, 1925, the daughter of Ole and Inga (Olson) Backlund, in Holt, Minn. She graduated from high school in Newfolden, Minn., in 1943. She worked briefly for Ben Franklin, Thief River Falls. She married
Raymond Gusa on Dec. 5, 1943. They lived and farmed in Spruce Valley Township, Marshall County, Minn.
She is survived by her husband; a son, William (Diane), Southlake, Texas; daughters, Joan (Verdell) Anderson, Nevis, Minn., Sharon (Wayne) Smith, Warroad, Minn., Catherine Burkholder, Etowah, N.C., Carolyn (Terry) Miller, Barron, Wis., and Martha (Stephen) Jonland, Proctor, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Oliver, Fairbanks, Alaska.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha; and brothers, Irvin, Lloyd and Kenneth.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, First Lutheran Church, Middle River.
Visitation: After 5 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Collins Funeral Chapel, Middle River, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: First Lutheran cemetery, Middle River.
Ole Johnson
STEPHEN, Minn. -- Ole Johnson, 102, Stephen, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, in Good Samaritan Care Center, Warren, Minn., where he had lived since 1995.
Ole R. Johnson was born March 5, 1898, the son of Johan and Ingrid (Olsen) Andersen, in Mandal, Norway, where he attended school. He moved Karlstad, Minn., in 1914. He moved to New York and worked there and in Pennsylvania and Montana. He lived in Hibbing and Duluth, Minn. He moved to Stephen and worked for Standard Oil as a truck driver. He married
Gladys Peterson on Dec. 31, 1926, in Stephen. They lived in New York City and returned to Stephen, where they lived on the family farm. They moved into Stephen in 1967. Gladys Johnson died Decemeber 1993.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth (Nancy), Stephen; daughters, Joyce Wicklund, Minneapolis and Ingrid (Leonard) Bazey, Stephen; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda; a brother, Andrew; and a son-in-law, Edward Wicklund.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, First Lutheran Church, Stephen.
Burial: Stephen City cemetery (Adamson-Austin, Stephen).
Wilma Huotari
PLUMMER, Minn. -- Wilma Huotari, 89, Plummer, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, in Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, Minn., where she had lived since Aug. 11, 1997.
Wilma Erica Eskeli was born April 9, 1911, the daughter of Nick and Ilml (Marttila) Eskeli, in Ironwood, Mich. She moved to Plummer with her family in 1912, where she attended school. She married
Tom Huotari on Nov. 9, 1935, in Plummer. They lived and farmed near Plummer until moving into Plummer in 1990. Tom Huotari died Dec. 29, 1997.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Lorna (Merle) Jesme, Plummer; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Fremling, Red Lake Falls, Minn.; and brothers, Leonard, New York Mills, Minn., and Edward and Melvin (Rosemary), both of Plummer.
She was preceded in death by a son, Russell; a sister, Aini Eskeli; and brothers, Woodrow, Leo and Martin.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Finnish cemetery, Plummer.
