Selma Z. Deutschmann, 104, of Westbrook and formerly of Dovray, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook.
Services are 1 p.m. today at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom with burial in Pleasantville Cemetery, Dovray.
Visitation is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the church.
Anderson-Schmidt Funeral home of Windom handled arrangements.
She is survived by children, Grace Dalbotten of New Ulm and Elmer and Mildred Deutschmann of Windom; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George Deutschmann on Oct. 20, 1975; five brothers and five sisters.
She was born May 23, 1897, in Grunau, Russia, to Karl and Anna (Quiring) Zoeller. Her family emigrated to the United States in 1910 and settled near Westbrook. She married George Deutschmann on June 30, 1920, in Dovray. They farmed near Dovray. She moved to Windom in 1979. She was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior. She became a resident of the Good Samartian Home in 1992.

Genevieve Dewanz, 83, of Bartlett, Ill., died May 12, 2001, in Bartlett.
Private funeral services were held in Bartlett.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred Dewanz of Bartlet; daughters, Cindy Ioriatt of Rolling Meadow, Ill., and Ronda and husband Jim Hall of Bartlett; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, LeRoy and Jeannie Dewanz, Melvin and Leona Dewanz, Donald and Opal Dewanz, all of New Ulm; sisters-in-law: Rose Reirson of St. Louis Park and Agnes Buysee of Winthrop; also many nieces, nephews, and friends in the area.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Benjamin, Wayne, and Randal; and sister, Ruth Langholz. She was born Dec. 4, 1917, in LeSueur, to Benjamin and Eldora (Randall) Dannheim. She married Alfred Dewanz on Aug. 3, 1946 in New Ulm. They moved to Illinois in 1956.

Evelyn Fehlhaber, 86, of 825 Center St., New Ulm, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at United Church of Christ in New Ulm, with Orient Chapter 60 Order of the Eastern Star conducting a service at the funeral. Burial will follow in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Firle Funeral Home, in New Ulm, and continues one hour before services at the church.

Orville D. "0. D." Hoffmann, 82, of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at his home.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, rural Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and continues on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Redwood Falls; children, Donald Hoffman of Fallwood, Calif., Karen Eastby and husband Wayne of Edwardsville, Ill., Stephen Hoffmann of Sanborn, Kathryn Hoffmann-Smith and husband Jay Smith of Maple Plain, James Hoffmann and special friend Tonia of New London; 11 grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and sister Evelyn Galstad and husband Oscar of Redwood Falls.
He was preceded in death by a son Charles Edward at birth.
He was born Feb. 7, 1919, to Louis John and Esther Amelia (Hendrickson) Hoffmann. He moved with his family to rural Delhi and attended rural school.
He married Dorothy Johnson on July 2, 1940, in Redwood Falls. They farmed near Delhi until 1968 and Redwood Falls, retiring in 1983. He was a part-time salesman for agriculture equipment and seed corn. They moved back to Redwood Falls in 1992, then in Sibley and returned to Redwood Falls in 1998. He was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and was an usher. He had belonged to the Delhi church where he sang in the choir. He was president of the Redwood County Historical Society from 1985 until 1990 and was instrumental in acquiring the Gilfillan property for that organization.

Steven J. Schaefer, 47, of 807 S. Washington St. in New Ulm, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the Church of the Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Brighton Township, Nicollet County.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-11 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by daughter Colana Schaefer of Pequot Lakes; son, Seth Schaefer of New Ulm; parents, James and Annabelle Schaefer of rural Nicollet; fiancée, Jane Wieland of New Ulm; sisters, Mary Ellen Schaefer and her special friend Paul Wilkus of Minneapolis, Paula Schaefer and her husband Phil Friedman of Huntington Beach, Calif., Ruth Schaefer and her husband Lee Thompson of Spicer, Kristine Schaefer and her husband Werner Glinka of Woodside, Calif., Anna Schaefer and her special friend Barry Benoit of Eden Prairie, and Lisa Schaefer and her special friend Joseph DeRosier of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brothers, Daniel Schaefer and his wife Linda of LaCrosse, Wis., Randy Schaefer and his wife Joleen of North Mankato, and Chad Schaefer of Nicollet; and six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leo and Amelia Schaefer and Edward and Lucy Gleisner.
He was born July 2, 1953, in New Ulm to James and Annabelle (Gleisner) Schaefer. He was a 1971 graduate of Nicollet High School. He worked at Mike's Body Shop in New Ulm and then at Jerry's Body Shop in Mankato. He was a pyrotechnician at area fireworks shows.

Edward K. Schock, 96, of New Ulm died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in New Ulm with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday. There will be a Masonic Service at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Beverly and Robert W. Boyne of Woodstock, Ill., Margie Schock of Albert Lea; grandson, Robert L. Boyne and his wife, Ellen of Loveland, Colo.; granddaughter, Marla Amici and her husband, Michael of McHenry, Ill.; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grayce K. Schock on July 19, 1993; a sister; and six brothers.
He was born April 1, 1905, in Peterstahl, Russia to Karl N. and Carolina Schock. He worked as a bookkeeper and assistant cashier and later worked in construction. He married Grayce Kramar on August 7, 1930, in Tyndal, S.D. He managed the Linehouse Grain Elevator at Long Lake, S.D. In 1938 they moved to Springfield and he worked for the Springfield Milling Corporation and was in charge of the grain buying department. He retired in 1970. He became a realtor for Lappe Real Estate in New Ulm. He was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge 200 A.F. & A.M. at Springfield, later affiliating with Charity Lodge 98 A.F. & A.M. at New Ulm. He was also a Past Worthy Patron of Ionic Chapter 84, Order of the Eastern Star at Springfield. His other Masonic affiliations were with New Ulm Chapter 57 R.A.M. DeMolay Commandery 26 K.T., Zurah Shrine, Minneapolis and New Ulm Area Shrine Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in New Ulm.

Al Bode, 65, of Echo, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Peace Lutheran Church in Echo.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls; and continues one hour before the service Sunday at the church.
Kulow Funeral Service of Echo is handling arrangements.

She is survived by daughter, Susan Viking Kueck and her husband John Kueck of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Dana Wagner, Andy Kueck, and Jenny Kueck of Minneapolis; great-grandchild, Austin Kueck of Minneapolis; sister, Betsy Crumrine of Nova, Ohio; sister-in-law, Kay Heil of Hutchinson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993.
She was born oct. 3, 1914, in St. Paul to Edward and Vera (Nagel) Larson. As a child, she moved with her family to New Ulm. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 1932. She married J. Donald Fehlhaber on June 1, 1938, in New Ulm. They moved to Sacred Heart where they operated the Sacred Heart News. They later made their home in Bird Island, owning and operating the Bird Island Union newspaper. They moved to Willmar in 1960, and returned to New Ulm in 1969.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm; Orient Chapter 60 Order of the Eastern Star; the Lind House; and the Hermann Monument Restoration & Perpetual Maintenance Society.
Memorials are preferred to the Women's Health Fund of the University of Minnesota Foundation, M.M.C. 395, 420 Delaware St. S.E., Minneapolis, MN 55455, or the American Cancer Society.

Doris Heidemann, 86, of Estill Springs, Tenn., nd formerly of the Winthrop area, died Dec. 28, 2000.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Sunday at the Winthrop Cemetery with fellowship to follow at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop.
She was born June 17, 1914, in Winthrop, to William and Dora Albrecht. On Oct. 20, 1940, she married Harold Heidemann. They lived in Winthrop. She taught at Moltke Township Country School. She and her husband moved to Lakeworth, Fla., in November 1965, and to Estill Springs, Tenn. in 1986.
She is survived by husband, Harold of Estill Springs, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Don and wife Averill Heidemann of New Ulm; sister-in-law and husband, Ruth and Glen Meyer; sister-in-law, Carol Heidemann; nephew Bob and wife Leann Horak of Winthrop; and many nieces and nephews.

Jean Keech, 92, of Madelia, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Madelia. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Madelia.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia and continues one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Conrad and Carol of Cumberland, Wis., and Gary and Sharon of Madelia; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death her husband in February 1998 and two sisters.
She was born Feb. 12, 1909, in Madelia to William and Ada (Williams) Mullen. She graduated from Madelia High School in 1927. She married Carwin Keech on Sept. 18, 1937, in Madelia. She worked as a secretary for Madelia Community Schools. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and various church organizations.

Edmund "Eddie" Spoo, 78, of Sanborn, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield with burial in Springfield.
Visitation is 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
He is survived by a friend and caretaker, Joann Brown of Sanborn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Edward and John Spoo; and sister-in-law, Faye Spoo.
He was born on Nov. 28, 1922, in Sundown Township in Redwood County, to Mae and Theresia (Kaechek) Spoo. He attended country school. He moved to Sanborn in 1976. He worked at Hilltop Auto Wrecking and as a farm hand for David Gles.

Wesley Zupfer, 89, of New Ulm, died Thursday, June 7, 2001 at Oak Hills Living Center.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church.
Firle Funeral Home of New Ulm is handling arrangements.
He is survived by his sister, Adeline Mickelson of Madelia, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife on March 6, 2001; brothers, Sylvan, Sylvester, James, Jacob and Leslie; and sisters, Leona Weber, Eleanor Roiger, Lillian Brinkmann, and Elizabeth Roiger.
He was born Sept. 20, 1911, in New Ulm to Anton and Josephine (Dewanz) Zupfer. He attended Holy Trinity Grade School and worked for the Cudahy Packing Company for 15 years. He married Amanda Rosenau on March 6, 1943, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church parsonage. He worked for New Ulm Grocery. He retired in 1976. He became a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in March 2000. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Marguerite Gribble, 87, of 607 Summit Ave. in New Ulm, died Friday, June 8, 2001 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Don Gribble, of New Ulm; sons, Charles E. Gribble of Des Moines, Iowa and George F. Gribble of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Don Lawrence of Burnsville; and sisters-in-law Shirley Rerat of Edina and Geraldine Rerat of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Marguerite was born Oct. 16, 1913 in Minneapolis to Eugene and Mary (McCullough) Rerat. She graduated from Basilica High School in Minneapols and then attended the Minneapolis Business College in Minneapolis. On July 1, 1939 she married Don Gribble in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis until 1952 when they moved to New Ulm where her husband purchased the Ford dealership. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Church Guild, the Turner Ladies, New Ulm Medical Center Auxillary, American Legion Auxillary, and the New Ulm Country Club.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools (NUACS).

Elmer Heine, 71, of Lewisville, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Branch, with burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Saturday and 7:30-11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at the church Sunday, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, Steven and his wife Kari of Welcome; Tom of Vero Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Cathie and her husband Scott Lien of Brooklyn Park; five grandchildren; a sister, Roma Culbertson of Lewisville, two brother-in-laws, Rodney and his wife Darlene Heckman of St. James, and Jim Clear of Ellsworth, Wis. and his mother-in-law Velva Clear of Madelia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marcella Heine, Dolores Heckman, and Francis Christnagel; and two brothers, Maynard Heine and Herbert Rand.
He was born on April 13, 1930 to Ernest and Renetha (Tetzloff) Heine. He attended St. John's Lutheran school in South Branch, From 1950 to 1951 he was a member of the National Guard Battery A 125th Field Artillery Battalion from St. James. In 1951 he worked for his brother, Maynard, on the farm and the following year he began farming on his own on the family farm.
On Feb. 18, 1955 he married Jean Clear. He continued living on the farm until it became a Century Farm in 1997. He also worked part-time for Tilney's for 17 years. His health forced him to leave the farm and move into Lewisville in 1998.
He belonged to the American Legion for 49 years where he served as Commander and was a member of the Drill Squad, St. John's Lutheran School and Cemetery Board for 6, Lewisville and South Branch Little League Coach for over 10 years, South Branch Men's League Slow-Pitch Softball, and C.C.S. Inc. board member. He was also a softball umpire.
