Gladys Maguire, 95, of Sanborn, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield
Services are 4 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Sanborn, with burial in Sanborn City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her son Ronald (Mick) and wife Jan Maguire of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elias (Mac) in 1966; two brothers, Melvin and Ervin; and two sisters, Edna and Cora.
She was born Oct. 4,1905, to Gilbert and Betzy (Steen) Dammen south of Walnut Grove. She attended country school. In March 1925 she married Elias (Mac) Maguire in Windom. They farmed near Walnut Grove and then lived in California for a few years before returning to Minnesota. They lived in several towns before moving to Sanborn where they owned and operated the Corner Bar from 1955 to 1962. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn.

Hilda Blank, 96, formerly of New Ulm and Countryside Apartments in Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Roland and Helmi Blank of Big Lake, Alaska; grandchildren, Greg Blank and Diane Kepl both of Big Lake, Alaska; and great-grandchildren, Tori, Camin, and Tierra Blank all of Big Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Blank on Nov. 8, 1986; three sisters, and one brother.
She was born Sept. 2, 1904, in Eden Township, Brown County, to Carl and Minnie (Lemcke) Ott. She attended schools in New Ulm and Morgan. On Sept. 22, 1926, she married Ervin Blank at the Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn. They lived in Sauk Center for 40 years, where her husband worked for the railroad. They moved to New Ulm in 1980. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Melvin Boettcher, 69, of Henderson and formerly of Arlington, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at Sibley Medical Center at Arlington.
Services are 8 p.m. Friday at Kolden Funeral Home, Le Sueur, with burial in Brown Cemetery at Henderson.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Kolden Funeral Home at Le Sueur.
He is survived by his wife, Adeline; children and their spouses, Robert and Deb of Henderson, Dorothy and Robert Kistner of Gaylord, Rita and Tim Renneke of Henderson, Connie and David Zehnder of Belle Plaine, Joan and Mark Weber of Arlington, Debra Weber of Arlington, Janet and Bruce Henke of Gaylord, Wendy and Jerry Kasten of Gaylord, Terry of LeCenter, James of Le Sueur, Sandy of Arlington and Jack of Arlington; 27 grandchildren; one great-grandson; seven stepchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; brothers, Lester (Carol) of Arlington, Elmer of Green Isle; Albert (Caroline) of McGrath.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; two grandchildren and one brother, Wilmar.
He was born on Jan. 20, 1932, in Kelso Township, Sibley County, to William and Leona (Dose) Boettcher. He attended country schools. He drove a milk truck then worked many years as a mechanic for Poquette Motors in Gaylord, Farmhand in Green Isle, Kester's Garage in Green Isle and most recently at Brau Motors in Arlington. He married Mavis Lange Dec. 20,1951 in Arlington. She preceded him in death in May of 1997. He married Adeline E. Wolter Aug. 4, 1997, at Grace Lutheran Church at Le Sueur.

Clifford Lucio, 96, of Morton, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at the Redwood Area Hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m Saturday at St. Cornelia's Church Bishop Whipple Mission in the Lower Sioux Community with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 6 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and from 8 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the church hall at the Lower Sioux Community.
The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his children, Leona Larson of Morton, Mary Loomis of Morton, Clifford Jr. and Jean of Morton, Joe and Kim of Tokyo, Japan, Ruth Pacheco of Albuquerque, N.M., Frank of Morton, Sum Rinderman of East Moline, Ill., Victoria and James St. Pierre of Shakopee, Josephine Seidl and Gary of Bird Island, Albert of Morton, and Diane of Morton; 39 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great -grandchildren; a brother Joseph of St, Paul, and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Esther; children; Bernice Scheffler, John; two infants; his parents, and many brothers and sisters.
He was born April 9, 1905, in Moran, Texas, to Pastolla and Avella (Hernandez) Lucio. He married Esther Thomas in St. Paul. He worked for WPA and Swift and Armour packing plants in South St, Paul. He and his wife moved to the Lower Sioux Agency in 1929. He farmed for Charles Neitzel Sr. for 35 years.

Florence Haugen, 79, of Butterfield, died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at St. James Health Services Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Butterfield with burial at Butterfield City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
She is survived by sons, Richard and Ruth Ann of Odin, Robert and Dianne of Hawley, Ronald of Kasota; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Irwin Stangeland of Forada; sisters, Hannah Nygaard of Starbuck, Alice Anderson of Bothell, Wash., Bernice and Elvin Nordaune of Benson, Orpha and Chan Caughie of Olympia, Wash., Naomi Briest of Seattle, Wash., Elsie and Hank Gonzalez of Fort Orchard, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Luella Krook of Glenwood, and Hermina Jenum of Glenwood.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Ludlum; brother, Hans Stangeland, a husband Morgan; and her parents.
She was born on Feb.9, 1922, to Ole and Cecelia (Aerthun) Stangeland of Langlie Township in Pope County. On Aug. 9, 1943, she married Morgan Haugen in Seattle, Wash. In 1948 they moved from Starbuck, then Butterfield. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxiliary, and Senior Citizen Center.

Leona (Mrs. Melvin) Wichelman, 89, of 507 East 11th Street in Gibbon, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at her home.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon. St. Willibrord's Altar Society and Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin C. Wichelman of Gibbon; son Allan F. Wichelman of Bangkok, Thailand; granddaughter, Marissa O. Wichelman of Pacifica, Calif.; and sister, Margaret Briese, of the Fairfax Community Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gervase Olson in 1960, Mary Margaret Briese in 1987, Bertha Salzer in 1988, Angeline Broich in 1989, and Bernadine Whittet in 1992; and by brothers, Cyril Dording in 1973, Frank Dording in 1961 and Peter Dording in 1987.
She was born Nov. 28, 1911, in West Bend, Iowa, to Felix and Teresia ( Fuchsen) Dording. She graduated from Fairfax High School. She worked at Gumpolan's General Store in Fairfax. She married Melvin C. Wichelman on June 27, 1946, at St. Willibrord's Rectory in Gibbon. They operated a dog kennel service in Gibbon. She was a member of St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon, Altar Society and Catholic Aid.

Elmer Battcher, 87, of Gaylord, died Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at the Glencoe Area Health Center in Glencoe.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at American Lutheran Church in Gaylord with burial in the Gaylord Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 4-8 p.m. and 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the American Lutheran Church in Gaylord.
He is survived by his wife, Elvira of Gaylord; children and their spouses, Jeanette and Eugene Bening of Hutchinson, David and Birdine Battcher of Gaylord, Cheryl Latzke of West Des Moines, Iowa, Virginia and Wayne Rousseau of New Braunfels, Texas, Dan and Sue Battcher of Cedar Falls, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Joyce and Doug Battcher-Malchow of St. Louis Park; brother, Archie and Cecelia Battcher of Arlington, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wesley and Rueben; sister, Loretta; son, LeRoy; and grandson, Brian Bening.
He was born on Jan. 11, 1914, in rural Henderson, to Fred and Magdalena Battcher. At age six, he moved with his parents from Henderson to Dryden Township. He attended rural school, He married Elvira Luebke on April 20, 1938 in Parkston, S.D. They farmed in Dryden Township until 1980 when they moved to Gaylord. He was active in Sibley County 4-H and held offices in American Lutheran Church. He also was a member of Gideons International and was State Scripture Secretary.

Orville Hawkins, 76, of Gary, died Friday, June 9, 2001 at his home.
Services were June 11 at Gary Lutheran Church, Gary with burial in Twin Valley Memorial Gardens, Twin Valley.
Visitation was June 12 with a prayer service in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley, Minnesota. Military rites were provided by the Gary American Legion Post 505.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; son, Steve and wife Gayle of New Ulm; daughter, Sharon and husband Bob Allen of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Viola and husband John Leitner of Fargo, N.D.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob; and sister, Ethel Thompson.
He was born June 14, 1924, to Emil and Emma, (Bueng) Hawkins in Twin Valley. He attended school in Twin Valley where he graduated in 1942. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 where he was a tail gunner with the Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon his discharge in 1945, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He entered the construction trade. On Sept. 17, 1955, he married Marjorie Liebenow in Barnesville. He worked for several years in construction for John T. Jones Construction in the Fargo area and independently in the Gary area. He was a member of the Gary Lutheran Church, Gary American Legion and the Ada VFW.

Diane Sandmann, 58, of 610 5th North St. in New Ulm, died Friday, June 15, 2001 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3 - 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 until 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas L. Sandmann, of New Ulm; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Dan Bonan of Woodbury; a brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Marilyn Leonard of Maple Grove; a brother, Dan Leonard of New Ulm; her mother-in-law, Clarice Sandmann of New Ulm; and by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Q. W. and Hildegard Leonard and by her father-in-law, Ezra Sandmann.
She was born March 4, 1943 in New Ulm to Q. W. and Hildegard (Tauer) Leonard. She graduated from the Holy Trinity Catholic High School in 1961. She married Douglas L. Sandmann on Sept. 25, 1971, at the Cathedral in New Ulm. She worked as a waitress at the Palace Cafe in New Ulm before becoming employed at McDonald's where she was working at the time of her death. She was most recently involved as a volunteer for the state Women's Bowling Tournament the last two times in was held in New Ulm. She was currently the vice president of the New Ulm Women's Bowling Association.
Diane was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and for the past ten years was very active as a Communion Minister at the Cathedral.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools.

Clara Remmele, 97, of Echo, died Friday, June 15, 2001 in Parkview Home in Belview.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2001 in the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Echo, with burial in the Echo Cemetery.
Visitation will be noon until 2 p.m. at the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Echo. The Sunset Funeral Home of Echo is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by son Myren and his wife JoAnne of Echo, daughter Janet Werner and husband Walter of Echo; and five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a great great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Baldwin, brother Ervin Preuss, and sisters Mabel Rengstorf and Aurelia Preuss in infancy.
She was born Sunday, Feb. 28, 1904 in Posen Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota to Carl and Meta (Hulke) Preuss. She grew up on the family farm in Posen Township and attended St. Luke's Parochial School and Country School District 59. She married Baldwin E. Remmele on June 12, 1925, in St. Luke's Lutheran Church. Baldwin died on Nov. 19, 1976.
She was a member of the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Echo.

Norbert Seifert, 72, of Clements, died Friday, June 15, 2001 in the Gilmor Manor in Morgan.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clements, with burial in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday 5 ­ 9 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clements. There will be a parish prayer service Monday evening at 7p.m. and a Catholic Aid Rosary and 7:30 p.m. at the church. The Sunset Funeral Home of Wabasso is handling the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife Rita, sons, David and his wife Tina of Hutchinson, Timothy and his wife Lisa of Mankato, Leon of Redwood Falls, Allen and his wife Sharon of Blair, Wis., Keith and his wife Carol of Mankato, and Marty and his wife Traci of Marshall; ten grandchildren and a great granddaughter; brother Lawrence and his wife Lorraine of Clements and sister Florence Salfer and her husband Alfred of Wabasso.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant granddaughter.
He was born Feb. 14, 1929 in Sundown Township, Redwood County, to Martin and Grace (Fischer) Seifert. He lived his entire life on the Seifert farm near Clements. He attended country school and St. Michael's Parochial School in Morgan. In 1951 he entered the U. S. Army serving in Korea. He married Rita Daub on June 15, 1957 in St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso and they settled on the farm where he farmed until retiring in 1991. He was an active member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clements, having served on the Parish Counsel, as lector for 22 years, and member of the Catholic Aid which he had been president. He also was a life member of the American Legion and Past Adjutant of Clements American Legion, Past Commander of the Redwood County American Legion, a life member of the V.F.W. in Morgan, had served on Sundown Township Board 21 years and as supervisor, served on the Redwood Planing and Zoning Commission, was a member of the Redwood County Historical Society, Friends of Gilfillan, and Clements Lions Club.

Velma Wolner, 74, of 2105 S. Bridge St. in New Ulm, died Friday, June 15, 2001 at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the City Cemetery, New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday and 7:30-10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Joel of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Vicki Alm of Windom, and Bruce and Denise Alm of Indianapolis, Ind.; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Virginia Austin of rural Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Merle Austin and sister-in-law, Darlene Austin.
She was born August 17, 1926 in Fairmont to Adin and Mabel (Plumhoff) Austin. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1944. She married Joel Wolner on Jan. 30, 1960 in Northwood, Iowa. After marriage she worked for the Red Owl Grocery Store in New Ulm for nine years, then she worked for Kraft Foods for twenty years until she retired in 1989.
She was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post 800 in Sleepy Eye, and the 600 Bowling Club.

Donald L. Huber, 78, of Inver Grove Heights and Naples, FL, died June 14, 2001, in Inver Grove Heights.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Church of St. Joseph in West St. Paul, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
Visitation is 4 -9 p.m. Sunday at West Funeral Home in West St. Paul and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Inver Grove Heights; sons Donald and wife Elaine of West St. Paul and John and wife Jean of Mendota Heights; stepchildren Ginger and husband Lew Ohmann of Woodbury, Frank and wife Char Dierberger of South St. Paul, Nancy and husband John Gauthier of St. Louis, Mo., Margie and husband Greg Schmidt of Lion Lakes, Terri and husband Herbert Holman of Springfield; 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters Lois and husband Ed Withuski of South St. Paul, Claire and husband Harold Trieb of Nampa, Idaho; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Winifred in 1971, brother Joseph and step-daughter Kay Dierberger.
He was born on Sept. 19, 1922 in St. Paul, to Joseph and Margaret (Allen) Huber. He graduated from Cretin High School in St. Paul in 1936. He worked in textile sales in seven states, serving Esser's department store in Springfield for many years. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer piloting B-25 bomber planes in the South Pacific during World War II. He was mayor of Mendota Heights from 1961 to 1976.

Arthur Bernloehr, 91, of Sleepy Eye, died June 15, 2001 at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Albion Lutheran Church in St. James with burial at Albion Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7:00 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bernloehr of Luther Memorial Home in Madelia; sons Dennie of Bloomington, Darrel and Bonnie Berloehr of Mankato; daughters Jean and husband Leon Hudson of Two Harbors, Audrey and husband Dick Zinniel of Sleepy Eye and Cindy and husband John Hughes of Alexandria; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; brother Ernest and wife Irene Bernloehr of St. James; sister Slyvia and husband Bud Beaver of Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Ruth; brothers, Johnny and Henry; and sisters--Grace, Cora and Ellen.
He was born June 19, 1909 in Albin Township, Brown County to Charles and Anne (Tande) Berloehr. He attended country school in District 76, returning home to farm with his father. He married Margaret Rolstad on Sept. 25, 1937 at the Lake Hanska Parsonage. They continued to farm the family farm until the tornado of 1938, when they moved to Sleepy Eye. They became residents of the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia in April 2001. Arthur was a lifetime member of Albion Lutheran Church.
