Bishop Raymond Alphonse Lucker, 74, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2001, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Home, St. Paul.
On Sunday at 3:30 p.m., there will be Reception of the Body at Guardian Angels Church, 8260 Hudson Boulevard North, Oakdale. Visitation will follow and continue throughout the all-night vigil. Evening prayer is 7:30 p.m. and night prayer is 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Guardian Angels Church, Oakdale.
On Monday, there will be a 7:30 a.m. prayer at Guardian Angels Church, Oakdale, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial.
On Monday, at 3:30 p.m., there will be Reception of the Body at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm. Visitation will follow and continue throughout the all-night vigil. There will also be a 7:30 p.m. prayer and a 10:30 p.m. prayer Monday at the cathedral.
On Tuesday, there will be a 7:30 a.m. prayer followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm. Burial will follow at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
He is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosemary and Greg Kern of Richfield, Mary Jo and Frank Haggerty of Roseville, and Margaret (Peggy) and Don Grobe of Millville, brothers and sister-in-law, Donald and Dianna Lee Lucker of Wayzata, and Gerald Lucker of Pengilly; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was born Feb. 24, 1927, in St. Paul to Alphonse J. Lucker and Josephine Schiltgen Lucker Mayer.
He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Nazareth Hall Preparatory Seminary in St. Paul.
As an adult, he studied philosophy and theology at the Saint Paul Seminary. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 7, 1952, at the Cathedral of St. Paul by Bishop James J. Byrne. His first assignment was as assistant director of the Office of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, from June 1952 to February 1958 at which time he was named director. He held this position until Sept. 11, 1964, when he was sent to pursue graduate studies. He received a doctorate in Sacred Theology from the University of St. Thomas in Rome. While studying in Rome he participated in the activities of the Second Vatican Council. He then returned to the archdiocese and was named assistant superintendent of schools for the archdiocese. The following year he became superintendent and remained in this position until January 1969. During this time he completed a doctorate in education at the University of Minnesota. That year he became the director of the Department of Christian Formation of the United States Catholic Conference in Washington, D.C. until June 1971. During this time Pope Paul VI named him an Honorary Prelate (Monsignor). In July 1971 he was named Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and Titular Bishop of Meta. He was ordained a bishop on Sept. 8, 1971. Along with his duties as auxiliary bishop, he was named pastor of the Church of St. Austin, Minneapolis, until July 1974. He was then named pastor of the Church of the Assumption of Mary, St. Paul, until 1976. While pastor at Assumption, he also served as director of the liturgy office of the archdiocese. He was named Bishop of New Ulm on Dec. 23, 1975, and this appointment was announced Dec. 30, 1975. He was installed as Bishop of New Ulm, on Feb. 19, 1976, at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm, and he served the diocese for 25 years.
He was an active member of the Catholic Theological Society of America, and served on the National Conference of Catholic Bishops' Administrative Committee and the committees on Latin America, Evangelization, Diaconate, Laity, Catechetical Directory, and Charismatic Renewal. He received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa from the College of St. Catherine, St. Paul. He was recognized for his commitment to religious education, spiritual renewal, pastoral leadership, and his pioneering efforts in promoting equality for women in the church and society. In June 2001 the Catholic Theological Society of America paid special tribute to him, during its national convention, for his leadership and service to the church. In July 2001, he was recognized for his leadership in the area of social justice, receiving Pax Christi USA's highest honor, the Ambassador of Peace Award.
Memorials are preferred to the Lay Ministry Scholarship Fund, Bishop Lucker Lecture Fund, Fr. Alexander Berghold Memorial, and Our Lady of Good Counsel Home, St. Paul.
The pope granted him an early retirement on Nov. 17, 2000, upon learning that he was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. During his early retirement, he lived at the Leo C. Byrne Residence, St. Paul, until July 2001 when he sought full-time care at Our Lady of Good Counsel Home, St. Paul.

Isabella Buerkle, 97, of Gaylord, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord and continues one hour before services at the church.

Isabella Buerkle, 97, of Gaylord, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord and at the church, one hour before services.
She is survived by her daughters, Cloie McCann of Brooklyn Center, Rosanne and husband Max Fowler of Caldwell, Idaho; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her spouse in 1999; three brothers; two sisters; and son-in-law John McCann.
She was born Jan. 23, 1904, in Stewart to Paul and Rose (Wegner) Quandt. She attended school in grafton Township, rural Stewart. She married Herbert Buerkle on June 30, 1924, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Fernando. They farmed in rural Stewart and Gibbon. In 1955 they moved to Gaylord. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord and served with the Ladies Aid.

Eugene Lange, 66, of Fairmont, died on Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 at Fairmont Community Hospital
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Fairmont, with burial at Center Creek Cemetery near Granada with full military honors.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Lakeview Funeral Home, Fairmont and at the church one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Lange of Fairmont; daughters, Janel Nicolay and her fiance, Randy Swenson, of St. Peter, Jodi Fredrickson and her husband, Jeff, of Litchfield, Lisa Lange and her fiance, Doug Dreier, of Gaylord, Lori Graphenteen and her husband, Steve, of Litchfield; a step son, Ricky Shoemaker of Granada; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Lange and his wife, Alice, of Lamberton; a sister, Darlene Haug and her husband, Homer, of Danube; parents-in-law, Lyle and Pearl Bahr of Huntley; brother-in-law, Ronald Bahr and his wife, Marian of Granada; sister-in-law, Debra Sorenson of Willmar; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dean; and a brother, Darvin.
He was born May 21, 1935 in Jamestown, N.D. to Walter and Erna (Buetow) Lange. His family moved to Redwood County in 1936, where he attended District 94 country school. He graduated from Lamberton High School. He entered the U.S. Army Nov. 23, 1955 and served in Alaska until his honorable discharge in October 1957. He married Janet Buhr on Dec. 6, 1958. They lived in Winthrop where he worked for Midland Coop. On Nov. 27,1991, he married Connie Shoemaker in Fairmont. He worked at the Land of Lakes Cooperative in Fairmont. In I983, he became self employed and sold ventilation equipment to farmers. In the early 1980's he started commuting to Hamel and worked at Suburban Propane during the week. On the weekends he returned to Fairmont. From 1999 to July 2001, he was a service technician for Cityview Plumbing and Heating in Long Lake. He retired in July.

Glenn W. Johnson, 83, of Hector, died on Friday, Sept. 21, 2001 at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
Services are Monday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. at the Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Palmyra Township, rural Hector, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday, from 5-8 p.m. at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine Johnson of Hector; son Russell Johnson and wife Sharon of Atwater; daughter Cynthia Glaeser and husband Warren of Buffalo Lake; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Earl Wenz and his wife Eunice of Hector; sisters-in-law Ruth Hackbarth and husband Leonard of Hutchinson, Hazel Gruenwaldt of Glencoe, and Alvira Levens and husband Richard of Aitkin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother in infancy and brothers Clifford, Marvin and Leonard.
He was born April 22, 1918, in Martinsburg Township, Renville County, to Julius A. and Clara J. (Johnson) Johnson. He grew up in Martinsburg Township and attended District 83 School. He married Lorraine F. Wenz on June 6, 1936. The couple lived and farmed in Martinsburg Township until he retired from farming due to his health. In failing health, he entered the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in April 1999.
He was a member of the Swedlanda Lutheran Church and was a member of the church council. He had been a member of the Swedlanda Men's Chorus since age 14. He served on the Hector Farmers Elevator Board for 37 years and also served on the District 83 School Board.

Scott Wilson, 51, of Burnsville, formerly of Gaylord, died on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001.
Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of St. Peter, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Sunday at J.S. Klecatsky & Sons Funeral Home, Yankee Doodle at Coachman Road, Eagan and 9-10 a.m. Monday at the Church of St. Peter with mass at 10 a.m.
He is survived by his wife Ann; sons Mark, Thomas and Joseph; parents, Duane and Doris, siblings, Steven (Mary), Richard and Beth; and nieces and nephews.
He was employed at Dr. Pepper/7 Up.
In lieu of flowers, memorials at preferred.

Florence Beilke, 91, of 1224 5th N. St., New Ulm, died on Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at the New Ulm Medical Center, New Ulm.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Ulm, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, New Ulm.
Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-11 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Streitz, and her husband, David, of Maple Grove; grandchildren, David Jacobson, and his wife, Alicia, of Lakeville, and Paul Jacobson and his wife, Susan of Maple Grove; and great grandchildren, Isaac, Isabella, Aaron, Dakota, and Sierra; and sisters, Norma Hage of Rochester, and Meryl Pinnow of Maplewood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford Beilke, on Feb. 14, 1985; and brothers, Clarence, William, Albert, Floyd, Elmer and Loren.
She was born Jan. 12, 1910, in Fairfax, to John and Anna (Wicht) Hanssen. She attended the Fairfax Schools and later received her teaching degree from New Ulm Normal School. She taught country schools in Morgan and Hanska.
She married Clifford Beilke on Aug. 30, 1933, in Fairfax. They farmed near Morgan for forty years. They retired in 1973 and moved to New Ulm.
She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Ulm, and a past member of the Ladies Aid and the Alter Guild at the church.

Enid Tiedeken, 91, of Madelia, died on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Services are Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Madelia, with burial in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation is Tuesday, 5-8 p.m. at the Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia and one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her sons and their wives; Richard and Darlene of Starke, Fla., Thomas and Phyllis of St. James, Lee and Elaine of Albert Lea; daughter Dessa Preuhs and husband Glen of Starke, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and brother Lloyd T. Jones and wife Vivian of Lake Crystal.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son Leon, two sisters, a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter.
She was born Dec. 24, 1909, in Butternut, to Thomas (Colorado) and Agnes (Williams) Jones. She grew up in rural Butternut and attended rural schools and later Lake Crystal High School where she graduated in 1927. She married Anton (Tony) Tiedeken on Sept. 17, 1929, in Lake Crystal. They farmed in rural Lincoln Township, rural Madelia, until his death in April 1975. She worked as a cook at the Madelia Community Hospital for 18 years retiring in 1976. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served on the Presbytery and was active in ladies' groups. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Madelia Senior Club, Madelia Hospital Auxiliary, Salem Sunshine Club, and South Central Minnesota Senior Federation. She helped organize Watonwan County Senior Transportation and served as treasurer for many years.

Selma Wething, 93, of Redwood Falls, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at the Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with burial at the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
She is survived by her sister, Evelyth Worsech of Redwood Falls and several nieces and nephews.
She was born June 23, 1908, at Vang, N.D., to Otto E. and Anna (Nelson) Rudd. As an infant she moved with her family to the Fairfax area. She received her elementary education at Brookfield, graduating from Fairfax High School in 1927. She then took teacher's training in New Ulm to later teach in country schools near Fairfax. She married Clarence Wething on Aug. 24, 1935, at her parents' home. They lived in Marshall, later moving to a farm in Franklin. As her husband was employed by the railroad, they moved to Minneapolis in 1942 and Florida in 1963, until her husband retired. Her husband died Sept. 23, 1968. She moved to Redwood Falls in 1994 to be closer to her sister and more recently she was a resident at the Wood Dale Nursing Home.

Lena Becker, 97, of Glencoe, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Glencoe Area Health center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mountville, in rural Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord.

Myrtle R. Lee, 88, of St. James, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at St. James Health Services Hospital.
Services are Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Albion Lutheran Church in rural St. James with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is Monday from 5-7 p.m. and hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
She is survived by numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Rubine Lee.
She was born May 17, 1913, in Albon Township, Brown County, to Otto and Rubine (Bottem) Lee. She grew up and attended rural school in the St. James area where she was a lifelong resident. She was employed by Friesen's Variety Store, Ralph's Super Value and Ben Franklin in St. James before retiring. She was a lifelong member of Albion Lutheran Church and was involved with all Ladies Aid, choir and Luther League.

Gerald M. Zachariason, 69, of Morton, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at a St. Cloud hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin with burial in the Morton City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls; and continues one hour before services Thursday at the church.

Gerald M. Zachariason, 69, of Morton, died Sunday, Sep. 23, 2001, at a St. Cloud Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin with burial to follow in the Morton City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and continues one hour before services Thursday at the church.
He is survived by wife, Mary Ann of Morton, children, Nick Zachariason and wife Judy, of Morton, Denis Zachariason of Morton; Julie Zachariason Nusser and husband Michael Nusser of Mankato; Kelley Zachariason of Mankato; stepchildren, Dale McColley and friend, Naomi DeJarlis of Littleton, Colo., Jeff McColley and wife Pam of Franklin; Linda Radermacher and husband Allen of Franklin; Cindy LeBrun and husband Rich of Sauk Centre.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Arden Zachariason of Santa Clara, Calif., Ardis Rittenhouse and husband Thurman of Monroe, La., Ethel Christianson and husband Paul or Lake Mills, Iowa, Dorothy Richardson and husband Harold of Elmore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sherdell; and sister, Clara Mueller.
He was born June 29, 1932, at Elmore to Arthur and Julia (Tokeim) Zachariason. He graduated from Elmore High School in 1950. On June 11, 1950, he married Shirley Lyon at Elmore. He continued to work on the family farm until moving to Morton in 1967. He became owner/operator of Zachariason and Son Apiaries, which he owned until retirement in 1994. He married Mary Ann Conrad on June 27, 1981, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church where he had served as an usher.

Lorinda Johnson, 91, of Winthrop, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 7:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
She is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, in-laws and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Clara Nelson and by her husband, Roy W. Johnson
She was born May 11, 1910, to Emil and Clara (Erickson) Nelson. She grew up in Winthrop and graduated from Winthrop High School. She attended art school in Minneapolis. She married Roy W. Johnson on July 12, 1952, in Mankato. They lived in Winthrop. He died Feb. 15, 1976. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church, in Winthrop. She was active with the Ladies Aid and with several other groups at church.
