Mary Braun, 78, of Stewart, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Stewart with a 7 p.m. prayer service and continue one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbur Braun, a resident at Glencoe Long Term Care; children, Elaine Molenaar and her husband Orville of Renville, Wilbur Braun Jr. of Redwood Falls, Monica Becker and her husband Duane of Brownton, John Braun of Redwood Falls, Russell Braun and his wife Sandy of Brownton, Rosemary Braun of Willmar, Ralph Braun of Bird Island, Marlene Braun of Hutchinson, Barb Pichotta of Stewart, Sharon Redman and her husband Todd of Hector and Karen Braun of Glencoe; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; brother; sister; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Gerald.
She was born Feb. 6, 1923, in Redwood Falls to John and Marie (Kahnke) Goelz. She attended rural school. On June 18, 1945, she married Wilbur N. Braun at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. The couple settled in the Stewart area. She worked at Green Giant in Glencoe, Telex in Glencoe, Derners in Hector and at the nursing home in Buffalo Lake.

Ruby Prosch, 86, formerly of Nicollet, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm, with burial in the Zion Cemetery in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Clarissa and LaVern Lucas of Courtland, and Harriet and Eldred Redman of Winthrop; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Betty Prosch of Brainerd, and John and Donna Prosch of Nicollet; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Raymond Jacobson of Wadena.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence W. Prosch on Feb. 20, 1981; an infant granddaughter, Rita Prosch; sisters, Myrtle Esping, Ruth Esping, Valborg Esping, and Olive Jacobson; and a brother in infancy.
She was born on Feb. 18, 1915, in Otisco Township, Waseca County, to John Herman and Agnes Josephine (Youngberg) Esping. She graduated from Waseca High School. She attended teacher's training and then taught country school for three years. She married Clarence W. Prosch on May 31, 1937, at the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in rural Waseca. They farmed in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County. She moved to New Ulm in 1987. In 1995, she became a resident of the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center. She had taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm and was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Melva LaPlante, 89, of Stewart, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hughes Funeral Home in Stewart, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and one hour prior to mass at the church.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Joann of Flandreau, S.D., Jerome and Ruth of Stewart, Tom and Barbara of Maple Grove, and David and Shirley of Maple Grove, ; daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Ralph Orton of Omro, Wisc., Mary and Ted Hauer of Hutchinson, Naomi and Eldon Barkeim of Dassel, and Suzan and Duane Lenz of St. Cloud; 26 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; brother, Hubert Reimer of Minneapolis; sisters, Irene Quist of Alexandria, Margaret Burville of Hutchinson, Delores Maiers of North Mankato, and Veronica Gertie of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oliver; son, Rolland; three children in infancy; grandsons, Jason and Jeffrey; great-grandson Mckenzie; brothers, Lawrence, Raymond, Charles, Herbert, and Leo; and sisters, Mary Dorfler, Laura Karl and Ann Mayer Schwarzrock.
She was born Sept. 22, 1912, in Collins Township, McLeod County, to Charles and Agnes (Forcier) Reimer. She grew up in the Stewart area. She married Oliver LaPlante at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart. She worked at Goodman's Produce in Stewart and later owned and operated Ole's Cafe in Stewart. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and was active with the St. Boniface Rosary Society and CCW.

Steven Robeck, 27, of New Ulm, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, as a result of an automobile accident.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in New Ulm, with burial in the City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Ann of New Ulm; daughters, Miranda Lea and Ashley Ann; parents, Roger and Barbara Robeck of Arlington; sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Brad Seefeld of Arlington; grandparents, Charles Haus of Arlington, and Alton and Orma Menk of Nicollet; niece, Samantha Seefeld of Arlington; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Margaret E. Hoffman, and father-in-law, David Cook.
He was born July 26, 1974, in Le Sueur, to Roger and Barbara (Haus) Robeck. He graduated from Sibley East High School. He married Julie Ann Cook on Sept. 23, 1995, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. They lived in New Ulm where he worked for the former Cook Sanitation, and Waste Management in Le Sueur, Northfield and Mankato. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm.

Thomas J. Evans-Watkins ST. JAMES ­ Thomas J. Evans-Watkins, 45, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at his home of cancer.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, St. James.
Visitation is 1-2 p.m.Saturday at the church.
Arrangements are handled by Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Kenneth; parents, Vance and Lois Watkins, all of St. James; sister, Nanette Schroeder and husband Roger of Northfield; brothers and their wives, Vance Jr. and Christine Watkins of Lynn Haven, Fla., Michael and Nancy Watkins of College Place, Wash., Matthew and Karen Watkins of Ankeny, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was April 1, 1956, in St. James, to Vance and Lois (Rubel) Watkins. He graduated from St. James High School in 1976, Jackson Vocational Technical College in 1977 where he studied agriculture. He later studied law enforcement at Mankato Vocational College. He farmed with his father and worked part-time in law enforcement. He married Barbara L. Evans on Aug. 4, 1989, at the First Presbyterian Church in St. James. He worked at Swift-Ekrich from January 1991 until June 1999. He worked at St. James Performance Plating until mid-June.

Violet M. Langhorst Bell, 69, of Rosemount, died Nov. 5, 2001, at home.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rosemount with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemtery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Apple Valley.
She is survived by her children, Barbara and husband Steve Ohmann of Inver Grove Heights, Bill Langhorst and Lakeville; sisters, Esther and husband Robert Kizer of Winthrop, Sylvia Clyne of New Ulm; and brother, Howard Clyne of St. Peter.
She was born Feb. 20, 1932, in Lafayette. She was a 1949 graduate of New Ulm High School.

Mary 'Ellen' Hilbert, 88, of Franklin, died Nov. 6, 2001, at Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin with burial in the Franklin Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.
She is survived by her sons, Clarence and wife Mary of Bloomington, Howard and wife Elaine of rural Franklin, LeRoy and wife Mary of Danube, Dale of Franklin; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Delorias (Hilbert) Brandt of Redwood Falls and several nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bert.
She was born May 11, 1913, in Morton to Gerald and Mary (Sullivan) McCarthy. She graduated in 1930 from Morton High School. On Sept. 6, 1933, she married Bert Hilbert in South Dakota. They lived and farmed in Birch Coulee Township until 1981 when they moved to Franklin. Her husband died in June of 1983. She continued living in Franklin until 1998 when she moved to the Country View Estates in Fairfax. In January of 1999, she became a resident of the Fairfax Community Home. She was a member of the Franklin Methodist Church until its closing. She then joined St. John's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Birch Coulee Birthday Club, the Franklin Prayer Group, the E.L.C.W.A. and the Franklin Senior Citizens Group.

Agnes Keating, 83, of Cottage Grove, Ore., died Nov. 6, 2001.
Services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Cottage Grove, Ore.
She is survived by daughters Sharon Miller of Madras, Ore., Leslie Keating of Gold Beach, Ore., Suzanne Arkless of Seabeck, Wa., Mary Ellen Olafson of Cottage Grove, Ore., Margaret Speece of Gold Beach, Ore.; sons, Robert Keating of Madras, Ore., Paul Keating of Cottage Grove, Ore.; sisters, Mary and Wes Hansen of Cottage Grove, Ore., Frances Krauss of Kasota, Alice Bohlmann of New Ulm; brother George and wife Lois Waibel of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Helen Waibel of New Ulm; 28 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was born March 26, 1918, in Emmet, N.D., to Ben and Caroline (Ziegenhagen) Waibel. She graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School in New Ulm in 1936 and received a nursing diploma from St. Mary's School of Nursing. She married Vincent B. Keating on Nov. 26, 1942, in St. Louis. She worked in Marine hospitals in Buffalo, N.Y. and Grosse Point, Mich. then served in the Army Nursing Corps at Scott Air Base in Belleville, Ill. during World War II. She worked at Cottage Grove Hospital for 11 years and then became a staff nurse on the surgical ward at Portland's V.A. Hospital. She later became a head nurse and assistant supervisor of the Nursing Home Care Unit at Roseburg V.A. Hospital. She then retired in 1980 and returned to Cottage Grove.

Paul W. Nass, 86, of Jefferson, Wis., died on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Countryside Nursing Home in Jefferson.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson, with burial with military rites in Christberg Cemetery in Jefferson.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Olsen Funeral Home in Jefferson and from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church Saturday.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Martin Luther College or the WELS Church Extension Fund.
He is survived by two sons, Douglas (Paula) Nass of Racine, Wis., and Prof. Thomas (Janice) Nass of New Ulm; three grandsons; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born Jan. 8, 1917, in Jefferson, Wis., to Henry and Lydia (Langholff) Nass.
He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1933. Upon his graduation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in June 1938, he immediately started work as a municipal auditor for the State of Wisconsin. With the exception of military service during World War II, the traveled extensively throughout Wisconsin as a municipal auditor until his retirement in June 1982. He received his CPA certificate from the Wisconsin Board of Accountancy in 1941. He was a member of the Wisconsin Institute of CPA's, the American Institute of CPA's and the Association of Government Accountants.
He married Lorraine Schultz of Jefferson on Oct. 20, 1951 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jefferson. She died July 16, 1977.
He was a lifelong member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jefferson. He was a church council member and financial secretary for many years. He was also active in choir, Luther Union, Men's Club, stewardship board and Reaching Out Committee. He was secretary of the Area Lutheran Chapel of the Air Association for many years.
During World War II he served 26 months in the finance office of the 94th Infantry Division. The last eleven months of his military service were spent at the Jeffersonville, Ind. Quartermaster Depot in various positions, the last of which was as a contracts termination negotiator after V-J Day.
He was a member of Reinhardt-Windl American Legion Post 164 of Jefferson. He was a charter member of the Jefferson American Legion Band, which was organized in 1930 and played regularly with them in the 1930's until his travels as a state auditor interfered. He rejoined the band in 1988 and played regularly through 1995. While at the University of Wisconsin he was a member of the concert and marching bands under Prof. Ray Dvorak for three years and was a member of the men's glee club and the University Singers, each for one year.
He was a member of the Wisconsin State Historical, Genealogical and Old Cemetery Societies, the Dodge-Jefferson County Genealogical Society and SABR. He was a member of the WELS Historical Institute and served as treasurer for over six years.

John 0. Kenning, 96, formerly of 814 Center St. in New Ulm, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and 7 - 11 a.m. Monday at the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife Helen, a resident of Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and George Brandel of New Ulm, Helen Mae and Lynn Olson of New Ulm, Ramona and Ed Danhouser of Hutchinson, KS; son and daughter-in-law, Elray "Bud" and Phyllis of Mankato; seventeen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Elvira Kenning of Hackensack, Marie Kenning of Bird Island, and Emmy Mueller of New Ulm; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters, six half brothers and sisters, and an infant grandson.
He was born Dec. 25, 1904, near Bird Island, Osceola Township, Renville County, to Charles and Louise (Ehrenberg) Kerming. He married Helen Unverworn on Sept. 8,1932, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. They farmed in Brighton Township, Nicollet County for many years, moving to New Ulm in 1963. He worked for Case Implement and
also did custom combining for Gene Griebel. He moved to Real Life Apartments in 1995 and to Oak Hills Living Center in July 2001.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, a former member of the Brighton Township Board, and a former member of the District 59 Brighton Township School Board.

Louise Penkert, 90, formerly of St. George, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-10 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Cathedral. The St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. both Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne Schugel, and Mary and George Forst all of New Ulm, Patty and Roger Beranek of St. George, and Judy and Myron Alfred of Florence, Mont.; sons and daughter-in-law, Tom and Carol Penkert of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Bill Penkert of Mankato; twenty two grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Meidl of New Ulm; sisters-in-law, Rose Marie Zins of Nicollet, Marie Rubischko of New Ulm, and Emily Penkert of Waterville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Florence and Ben Hoffmann of New Ulm, and brother-in-law, Vernon Bieraugel of New Ulm; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer Penkert on Aug. 25, 1991; sisters, Loretta Walters, Josephine Nelson, Anna Zins, and Lucy Reinhart; brothers, Ray, Ben, Tony, Charles, Lawrence, Hubert, and Joseph Zins; and a son-in-law, Eugene Schugel.
She was born Feb. 4, 1911, in Swan Lake, to William and Elizabeth (Machtemas) Zins. She attended country school in Brighton Township, Nicollet County. Before marriage she worked at George's Ballroom and the Ben Franklin Store in New Ulm. She married Elmer Penkert on June 1, 1937 at the Church of the Visitation, Swan Lake. After marriage she was a housewife and worked for a short time at Eibners Restaurant in New Ulm. They moved to St. George in 1964 and owned and operated the St. George Store until retirement in 1978. They moved to New Ulm in 1987. She moved to Highland Manor in 1994 and has been a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm since 1995.
She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society, Christian Mothers Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary, all in New Ulm.

Lowell Eldon Todnem, 76, of St. James, died Nov. 9, 2001, at the St. James Health Services Hospital in St. James.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday, and 7:30-9 a.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Lee of Milaca, Leslie and wife Jean of St. James, and Bradley of Princeton; daughters, Coranne and husband Roger Nundahl of Savage, Joleen and husband Terry Braaten of St. James, Valery and husband Dan Raway of Lakeville, and Vicky and husband Dan Todnem-Miller of St. Louis Park; ten grandchildren; sister, Angaila Essig of Springfield; sisters-in-law, bernice and Ilene Todnem of Hutchinson, Marion Tande of Madison, Wis., Glenda Haseman of Minnetonka, and Ardis Mikkelson of Madelia; brother-in-law, Arthur Mikkelson of Madelia; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Nathan Nundahl, brothers, Donald and Kenneth, and sister, Carol.
He was born July 13, 1926, in Seaforth, to Iver Albert and Anna (Christianson) Todnem. He moved with his family to Sleepy Eye at the age of two. He graduated from Sleepy Eye High School in 1944. He married Carol Mikkelson on Jan. 21, 1950, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Hanska. They farmed in St. James and later entered a partnership with their daughter Joleen and her husband Terry Braaten. He was a member of the Dairy Association, the Pork Producers and the Saddle Club. He was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Mary Ann Smith, 88, of Madelia, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at Luther Memorial home in Madelia.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Cemetery in Madelia. Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia is handling arrangements.
She was born on March 17, 1913, in Portage, Penn., to George and Johanna (Gluck) Petrinece.

Rosemary Andersen, 76, of 219 West St., New Ulm died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001 at her home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., both Monday at the funeral home in New Ulm.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the New Ulm Area Catholic Schools.
Rosemary is survived by her husband, Robert A. "Bob" Andersen, of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Mark Nierengarten of Arkadephia, Ark., Mary Terese "Terri" and Jim Schiller of West Bend, Wis., Anita and Tom Esser of New Ulm, Louise and Jeremy Raths of Minneapolis; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Terese Andersen of Wausau, Wis., Tim and Wendy Andersen of Minnetonka, Peter and Mary Andersen of River Falls, Wis., Tony and Ann Andersen of Eden Prairie; 21 grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanne and Don Bottko of Robbinsdale, Sandra and James Masterman of Minneapolis, Barbara and Terry Gravening of Portland, Ore.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jay and Mary Dowdle of Columbia Heights, Tom and Diane Dowdle of New Brighton, by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Lois Andersen of Richfield, and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Rosemary was born Sept. 24, 1925 in Minneapolis to Luella (Cress) and J. Raymond Dowdle.
She was a 1943 graduate of the St. Margaret's Academy in Minneapolis. Before marriage she worked for the ER Squibb & Sons in Minneapolis. On Aug. 2, 1947 she married Robert A. "Bob" Andersen at the St. Helena Catholic Church in Minneapolis. After marriage they lived in Highland Park in St. Paul until 1964, when they moved to New Ulm. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society, the New Ulm Medical Center Auxilliary, the Rosary Group, the Quilting Group, the Prairie Piece Makers, the Cresendo Club, and was active in the Meal on Wheels Program, the Wanda Gag Association and a local bridge club.
