Edmund Allerson, 92, of Lafayette and formerly of Nicollet died Monday, December 30, 2002 at the St. Peter Community Hospital in St. Peter.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2003 at the Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in Norseland with burial in the church cemetery. The visitation will be at the church from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and will continue on Friday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet is in charge of the arrangements.
Edmund is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Judy and Douglas Schultz of Nicollet, Jane and Gareth Holmen of Windom; sons and daughters-in-law John and Julianne Allerson of Naperville, Illinois and James and Janet Allerson of Nicollet, thirteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Elaine Benson, of Northfield; sisters-in-law Ruby Larson of Worthington and Gladys Larson of Gaylord; a brother-in-law, Don Larson, of Rochester; a friend Rosella Palmquist of St. Peter, and by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ireline Allerson, on August 16, 1986; and by sisters, Vernett Nelson, Edith Nelson, and Adeline Allerson.
Edmund Allerson, the infant son of John and Agnes (Quist) Allerson, was born July 8, 1910 in Sibley County. He attended District #46 country school in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County. On September 3, 1941 he married Ireline Larson at the Scandian Grove Lutheran Church Parsonage in Norseland. After marriage they farmed in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County. He retired in 1982 but continued to help his son with the farm work. Edmund moved to the Zins Apartments in Nicollet in 1999 and then to the Lafayette Good Samaritian Assisted Living in September of 2001. He was a member of the Scandian Grove Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council and also was very active with the Churchman Visiting Committee.

Anna M. Anderson, 103, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at St. John's Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Springfield, with interment in the Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9 a.m. Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
She is survived by sons, Andre of Redwood Falls, Lowell of Springfield, Alan of Springfield, and Thomas of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter, and one step-great-great-granddaughter.
She was born Sept. 23, 1899, in North Star Township, Brown County, to James and Mary (Runck) Gould.

Lucille Braun, 76 of Winthrop died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at the Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Interment will be in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be 7:30-8:30 a.m., today at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop, and one hour prior to the time of services at the church.
Lucille Augusta Selma (Bergs) Braun was born March 27, 1926, in New Auburn Township, Sibley County to Henry and Elsie (Dahlke) Bergs.
Lucille is survived by her husband, Willard Braun of Winthrop; son, Rodney Braun of Eden Prairie; daughters, Mavis Zacrep of Evergreen, Colo., Lois Carlson of Eden Prairie, Renee Braun of New Ulm, Mary Braun of New Ulm, and Lori Braun Ruschmeyer of Victoria; and a brother, Luverne Bergs of Henderson.

Sara Elisabeth Hartmann, 23 months old, passed away while being comforted by her parents, Dorthe and Mike of Mankato, on Sunday, December 29, 2002, at Fairview University Children's Hospital. Sara won her battle against Leukemia, but became a victim of its rigorous treatment.
Sara was an extraordinary person who showed tremendous courage in the face of pain and uncertainty. Her zest for life was unparalleled and her tenacity and determination left those who knew her in awe.
Sara loved playing with stickers, watching Barney and snuggling with her favorite stuffed bear and best friend, "nite-nite". She also enjoyed stroller rides, songs and reading books.
She will be forever loved and remembered by her parents, Dorthe and Mike, her brother, Kristian, and sister, Emma, whom Sara adored. She will be sadly missed by family in Wisconsin, California, Denmark, and Germany. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather.
Her legacy and memory will be in our hearts forever!
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Children's Cancer Research Fund, 4930 West 77th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55435.
Services 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with visitation one hour prior to the service. Mankato Mortuary in Mankato is handling arrangements.

Alvin Havemeier, 84, of 1610 Sunset Avenue in New Ulm died Monday, December 30, 2002 at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Imman-uel Lutheran Church in rural Court-land with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8 a.m. on Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of the service at the church on Saturday.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Hattie Havemeier of New Ulm; a daughter and son-in-law, Violet and Jerry Plagge of rural Courtland; grandchildren, Ken Plagge and his special friend, Margie Tomlinson both of Minneapolis, Steve and Jane Plagge of Apple Valley, Jerry (Butch) and Ronette Plagge of Richfield, and Pamela Plagge of Minneapolis; great grandchildren, Tristen, Nicholas and Elliot Plagge; and step great grandchildren, Mason, Felix, and Ysabel Tomlinson; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Lindquist of St. James; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Erich Knaak of Lewisville, and Melvin and Dorothy Baumgard of Vernon Center; and many nieces and nephews. Alvin was the last surviving grandchild of the early settlers of Courtland, Johann Conrad Havemeyer and Sophie Becker, immigrants from Vornhagen (Shaumberg Lippe) Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert, Henry, Harry and Walter; and sisters, Helen, Hilda, Hortensie, Hertha, Viola, Verna, Irene and Beatrice; nephews, Delroy Zimmerman, Duane Dallmann and Mervin Reed.
Alvin was born April 12, 1918 in Courtland Township, Nicollet County to August and Louise (Reese) Havemeier. He attended county school in Courtland Township, Nicollet County. On October 27, 1946 he married Hattie Baumgard at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center. After marriage they farmed in rural Courtland until 1983. They lived on their home place in Courtland until 1998 at which time they moved to the Sunset Apartments in New Ulm. In September of 2002 Alvin moved to Fairfax Community Home where he remained until his death. Alvin had a great love for history and family heritage and enjoyed singing songs of his grandfathers homeland, Germany. He enjoyed the music of Germany and coming to Heritagefest. Alvin and Hattie loved dancing and old time polka music. To some cousins he had the nicknames of 'Doc' and 'Pete' but to others especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren he was known as 'The Champ'. He loved to be the champ as he played horseshoes (early days) darts, pool and cards. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends until his health would not allow. Alvin was a gruff but loving man and his faith in the Lord sustained him during many health problems he had in the last years of his life. Alvin was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland.

Leonard F. Schiro, 86, of Hutchinson, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Penn Township, McLeod County. Burial with military rites by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad will be held in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until services Saturday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington is handling arrangements.
He was born July 13, 1916 in Round Grove Township, McLeod County to Edward and Amanda (Rennecke) Schiro. He served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army during World War II, from Feb. 9, 1942 to Jan. 5, 1946.

Adelia Schramm, 90, of Belle Plaine died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002 at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2002 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine with burial in Elmhurst Cemetery, St. Paul.
Visitation is Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
The Kolden Funeral Home of Belle Plaine is handling arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Leila Strickholm of Bloomington and Joan Meyer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Rev. David Plocher of Waterloo, Wis; daughter-in-law Dorothy Klockziem of New Ulm; two brothers, Erwin Martin of Prescott Valley, Ariz. and Elmer Martin of Blue Earth; a sister, Elvera Kabe of Albert Lea; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren.
She was born March 25, 1912 in Elmore to Gustav and Anna Martin.

Kimberly Ann Severson, 17, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Dec.31, 2002 as the result of a traffic accident North East of Sleepy Eye.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Satur-day, January 4, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with Fr. Brian Oestereich officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her parents, Paul and Susan Severson of Sleepy Eye; sisters, Theresa and husband Scott Stimpert of Winthrop, and Amanda Severson and special friend Will Hornick of Sleepy Eye; brothers, Jason Severson of New Ulm and Mark Severson and special friend Rachel Mude of Sleepy Eye; a niece, Samantha, and nephews, Jonathan, Christopher and Andrew Stimpert; grandmothers, Agnes Leonard of Nicollet and Marion Severson of Mankato. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Paul L. Severson and Kenneth Leonard.
Kim was born on June 30, 1985 in Sleepy Eye the daughter of Paul and Susan (Leonard) Severson. She lived in Sleepy Eye her entire life, attending St. Mary's Schools since kindergarten. Kim worked part time at Subway and Riverside Animal Clinic in Sleepy Eye. She loved animals and enjoyed her many pets. Kim liked to spend time with her niece and nephews, as well as her friends, family and special friend, Ricky. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.

Helene Heckmann, 80, formerly of 810 1st South Street in New Ulm, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 - 11a.m. on Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of the service at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Heckmann Scholarship Fund at MLC in New Ulm or the Christian Life Resources.
Helene is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Jerry Yoeckel of Milledgeville, Ill., Naomi and Arnie Schnitker of Brookfield, Wis.: sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Marie Heckmann of Lake Mills, Wis., and Bruce and Christine Heckmann of Sturtevant, Wis.; grandchildren, Heidi Heckmann of Lake Mills, Wis., Matthew and Amy Heckmann of Middleton, Wis., Sarah and Jeff Ferge of Kaukauna, Wis., Aaron and Rachel Heckmann of Aberdeen, S.D., Liesl and Jon Povich of DeKalb, Ill., Chad and Paula Yoeckel of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Megan Yoeckel of Milledgeville, Ill., and Erin and Danielle Schnitker of Brookfield, Wis.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Norwald and Verona Behrens of Paullina, Iowa, and Eldred and Mary Temple Behrens of Litchfield; a brother, Norman Behrens of Fairmont; and many great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Her parents and her husband, Professor George Heckmann preceded her in death.
Helene was born June 16, 1922, in Fraser Township, Martin County, to William and Wilhelmina (Huemoeller) Behrens. She attended Christian Day School at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fraser Township, Martin County, where also, she later married George H. Heckmann on June 6, 1943.
She served her Lord as a faithful wife and loving mother, and as an active volunteer and choir member in Lutheran congregations in Minnesota and Wisconsin, where Mr. Heckmann taught. She was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, and a member of the Ladies Aid at church. Mrs. Heckmann volunteered extensively at Oak Hills Living Center, sharing her Christian faith joyfully. After many years of faithful Christian service, she has joined the saints triumphant. To God be the glory.

Walter M. Miesen, 89, of Lamberton, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Springfield Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Lamberton, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Robert of Minnetonka, Anne Grimm of West St. Paul, Jane Gordy of Mason City, Iowa and Mark of Littleton, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Wellner of Chanhassen.
He was born Jan. 19, 1913, in Lamberton to Mathias and Anna (Antony) Miesen.

Michael Posl, 91, of Gibbon, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at the Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at the St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon, with burial in the church cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 - 10 a.m. on Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon. There will be a parish prayer service at 5 p.m. and the St. Willibrord's Catholic Aid Society will pray the rosary at 6 p.m., both Sunday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon.
Michael is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Peter Banken of Cedar; sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Connie Posl of Maple Grove, Tom and Jan Posl of Baxter, and Jim and Nancy Posl of Andover; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; sisters and brother-in-law, Rita Mahoney of Morton, and Virginia and Walt Stadelman of Burnsville; brothers, Tony Posl of Brooklyn Park, and Norbert Posl of Mount Shasta, Calif.; and also by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Catherine Posl on Oct. 29, 1998; sisters, Gertrude Dummer, Luella Jensen, Cecelia Posl and Dolores Jones; and brothers, Frank, Edward, and Edwin Posl.
Michael was born on Sept. 26, 1911, in Bird Island to Michael and Celestine (Huebsch) Posl. He attended country school in rural Bird Island. On May 18, 1946, he married Catherine Zachman at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in St. Michael. After marriage they moved to Gibbon, where he was co-owner of the Zachman Farm Equipment Company until he retired in 1977. He was a member of the St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon, the St. Willibrord's Catholic Aid Society, Fairfax VFW, American Legion in Gibbon, Gibbon Volunteer Firemen, and in 1999 he received the Bishop's Medal for service.

Harold J. Voltin, 84, of New Ulm, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, New Ulm with burial in New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are with Schmucker Funeral Service, New Ulm.
He is survived by a stepson, Ordell Menk of Wichita, Kan.; a stepdaughter-in-law, LaVonne Menk of Prior Lake; and a sister, Delores Brunner of New Ulm.
He was born March 7, 1918, in Renville County, Minnesota to Henry and Clara (Zollner) Voltin.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Karl Tague, 70, of 1520 S. Payne St., New Ulm, died Thursday evening, January 2, 2003 at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, Rev. Donald Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m, Sunday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Karl Dane Tague, the son of Russell and Pauline (Souers) Tague, was born June 30, 1932 in Kendallville, Ind. After graduating from high school in Huntington, Ind, he attended pre-seminary at Milwaukee Bible College, He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, Karl married Lore Reinbacher October 1, 1955 at Sheboygan, Wis. After his military service, they lived in various areas where he managed food services for local colleges, as well as the home office of American Family Insurance in Madison, Wis. In 1970, they moved to New Ulm where he operated the food service for DMLC for many years, retiring in 1995. His wife died in 1998. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the New Ulm Rotary Club.
Survivors include his son, Douglas Karl Tague of New Ulm; daughter, Deborah Anne Schoener and her husband Steven of Mankato; three grandchildren, Joshua, Jordan, and Bethany Schoener; a great granddaughter, Cassidy; brothers, Don Tague and his wife Ruth of Manistee, Mich., Richard Tague and his wife Mary of Xenia, Ohio, Russell Tague, Jr. and his wife Gloria in Ohio, Jimmy Tague and his wife Sharon of Warsaw, Ind., Stanley Tague of Auburn, Ind.; sisters, Janet Revor and her husband Melvin in Michigan, Sue Lundrum and her husband Max of Auburn, Ind., nieces and nephews, In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Barbara.

Fred H. Stern, age 89, of Sanborn, MN, died Thursday, January 2, 2003, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, MN.
Services are Sunday, January 5, 2003, at 2:00 PM at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sanborn, MN, with internment at Sanborn City Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, MN. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
Fred was born in Northstar Township, Brown County on January 19, 1913 to August and Emma (Krueger) Stem. He was baptized and confirmed in 1927 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield. Currently, he was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sanborn. Fred attended school district #78 and also German Lutheran School in Springfield. He worked on the farm with his father after school and in 1938 he moved to his present farm in Redwood County. On June 29, 1945, he married Hildegarde Arnold in Sleepy Eye. They farmed until he retired in 1975. In 1982 he resumed farming on a smaller scale which was his lifetime enjoyment. In the mid 1990's he organized and coordinated bus tours. Fred's favorite pastimes included socializing, playing cards, and bingo.
Survivors include his 6 daughters - Mae and husband Gordon Panitzke of Sanborn, Mary and husband Arlan Wille of Buffalo, MN, Marti and husband George Wilson of Omaha, NE, Leona and husband Allen Weckwerth of Springfield, Ethel and husband Joe Gostonczik of Springfield, and Sherry and husband John Hughes of Orange, TX; a step son - Clyde and wife Fern Arnold of Sanborn; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and I great great grandchild; 2 brothers - Bill and wife Marian Stem of Sanborn and Ed and wife Joyce Stem of Shawnee, KS; sisters - in - law - Delores Stem and Peggy Bredvold, both of Springfield; and numerous family and friends. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife - Hildegarde; twin children - Louis and Lois Stem; brothers - Ewald and Elvin, sisters - Martha, Augusta, and Lydia; and a great grandson - Dawson Wille.

Hannah Femrite, 91, of Little Falls, formerly of Lafayette, died Friday, January 3, 2003 at St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls. Private family graveside services will be held at First Lutheran Cemetery in Lafayette. Schmucker Funeral Service of New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
Hannah Frances Simonson, the daughter of Edward and Hilda (Johnson) Simonson, was born December 2, 1911 in Lafayette where she attended school. She married Lawrence Femrite November 2, 1940 in Northwood, Iowa. They made their home and farmed in Lafayette Township. Hannah worked as a cook at Lafayette Public School and also worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Lafayette. Her husband died in 1994. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lafayette.
Survivors include sons, Larry Femrite of Little Falls, Gene Femrite of Green Isle; daughter, Janice Larsen and her husband Dennis of Hastings; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Vincent Simonson of Tacoma, WA; sister, Helena Johnson of Arlington; nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Simonson.
