Daniel Briard

Daniel Briard, 53, of Delft died May 7, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee.

Services were held Thursday at Carson Mennonite Church in Delft with Rev. John Klassen officiating.

Special music was provided by Delora Ewert, organist.

Pallbearers were George Welk, Tom Zimmerman, Al Peterson, Robert Preston, Brian Spencer and Lanny Briard.

Interment with military honors provided by American Legion Post 206 of Windom was Friday at Norwegian Grove Cemetery in Gaylord.

A Masonic service was held Thursday at Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home in Windom, which was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Daniel Lee Briard was born May 11, 1947, to Jimmie and Fern (Matthes) Briard in Gaylord. He began his formal education in Gaylord and completed it at Mankato West High School, graduating in 1965.

Daniel joined the U.S. Navy and served as a crewman aboard the USS Essex in several parts of the world. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the Mankato area and continued his education at Stout State, where he studied mechanics.

He married Debra Leverson and together had three sons before the marriage ended in divorce.

In 1977, he married Sharon Pfeffer in Mankato. They lived in St. Clair for 16 years while Dan worked as an over-the-road trucker.

In 1992, they moved to Delft where he has been employed by the Minnesota Dept. of Transportation for the past 10 years, most recently as sign shop supervisor.

Since suffering a heart attack two years ago, Dan has experienced declining health.

Since moving to Delft, Dan and Sharon have attended Carson Mennonite Church. Dan has been a member of American Legion Post 206 of Windom and for several years been a part of Prudence Masonic Lodge in Windom.

He enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Delft; three sons, Jason Lee (Kim) Briard of Janesville, Chad Lee Briard of Delft and Bruce Lee Briard of Eagle Lake; Sharon’s daughters, Lori Jo (Dan) Pietsch of Shakopee, Tammi (Lance) Leiferman of Mapleton and Mary Jo (Jason) Pickering of Burnsville; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Arlene Briard of Averill Park, N.Y.

Gordon Getty

Gordon Getty, 90, of Grantsburg, Wis., died March 25, 2001, at Burnett County Continuing Care Center.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler.

Gordon Kenneth Getty was born Oct. 7, 1910, to Judson and Florence Getty in Lamberton. He later moved to Mapleton where he graduated from high school. He attended Luther College, graduating in 1937.

Gordon taught and coached in Jeffers from 1937 to 1942 when he began service in the U.S. Army.

In 1944, he married Avis Potter of Jeffers. He returned to Jeffers upon completion of his enlistment, then moved to Westbrook in 1950, where he was the high school principal and coach.

In 1955, he became superintendent of schools in Garden City until 1958, when he accepted the same position at Tyler. He served there until 1973.

After retiring, he spent winters in Texas and summers in Tyler.

For 33 years, Gordon’s favorite past time was fishing with his wife Avis in Manitoba, Canada.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis; two sisters, Helen Detamore and Adelaide Koziatek.

Survivors include his son, Bruce (Peg) Getty; three grandchildren; one brother, Addison Getty, and one half-brother, Glen Getty.

Arlene Anderson

Ferne Arlene Anderson, 75, of Windom died May 10, 2001, at her home.

Services were held Monday at First United Methodist Church in Windom with Rev. Jeffrey Hansen officiating.

Special music was provided by Deann Steele, organist.

Pallbearers were Chris Zimmerman, Henry Bartel, Don Gutknecht, Steve Gutknecht, Dick Ortmann and Jim Griffin.

Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home of Windom was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Ferne Arlene Raine was born Oct. 22, 1925, to Ernest and Ethel (Truckenmiller) Raine in Sibley, Iowa. She grew up in Sibley and attended school there, graduating from Sibley High School in 1943.

After completing her formal education, Arlene worked in a telephone office in California during the war years. After the war, she returned to Iowa.

In 1951, she married Donald Anderson in Sibley. The couple lived in Vermillion, S.D., Jackson, Westbrook, Wells and, finally, Windom.

In early years, she helped with Cub Scouts. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Windom.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don in 1986, and two sisters, Virginia and Marguerite.

Survivors include her son, Brooks (Kay) Anderson of Laurens, Iowa; two grandchildren; a nephew and foster son raised by Don and Arlene, Gary (Fran) Simpson of Columbia, S.C

Clarence Sykora

Clarence M. Sykora, 78, of Marshall, formerly of Westbrook, died Feb. 3, 2002, at Weiner Memorial Medical Center in Marshall.

Services will be held today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m. at Christ United Presbyterian Church in Marshall.
Interment will follow at Amo Township Methodist Cemetery in rural Storden.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Hamilton-Birk Funeral Home in Marshall is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Clarence Marvin Sykora was born March 2, 1923, to Charles and Mary (Moreviska) Sykora in Rosehill Township of Cottonwood County. He accepted the Lord as a small boy, while attending Westbrook Baptist Church.

He also attended a rural school near his parents’ farm before attending Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy before receiving his honorable discharge in 1946.

In 1950, Clarence married Luella Kuehl at the Windom United Methodist Church. They farmed in DesMoines Township in Murray County before moving to Marshall in 1963.
Clarence worked for several electrical companies, including Moore Electric, before working in the Electrical Maintenance Department at Southwest State University in Marshall.

Clarence was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church, where he held several church offices and volunteered.
He also enjoyed woodworking, ham radio, gardening, camping, traveling and cooking.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Luella in 1998, and seven brothers and sisters: Elmer Sykora, Dorothy Kuehl, Mabel Holck Kuehl, Claude Sykora, Vernal Sykora, Alyce Smith and Ruth Frazee.

Survivors include his four children, Julie (Mark) Taintor of Chanhassen, Gregory (Jane) Sykora of Spicer, Stuart (Linda) Sykora of White Fish, Mont., and Kim (Yvonne) Sykora of Papua, New Guinea; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Esther (Lon) Mapes of LaMesa, Calif., and Jeanette (Wayne) Chaney of Grass Valley, Calif.; and one brother, Gerald (Missy) Sykora of Camarrilo, Calif.

Glen Harris

Glen Harris, 65, of Cottage Grove, formerly of rural Jackson, died Feb. 1, 2002, at his home from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m., at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul Park with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m.

Services will also be held Saturday at 4 p.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church in Bergen with visitation from 3 to 4 p.m.
Interment will be at Hauges Lutheran Cemetery in Bergen.
Kok Funeral Home of St. Paul Park is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Glen R. Harris was born Oct. 1, 1936, to George and Florence (Fisher) Harris in Jackson County. He grew up and attended school in Jackson.
In 1959, Glen married Carolyn Drews at Hauges Lutheran Church in Bergen. The couple lived in St. Paul, where Glen attended Barber School and have lived in Cottage Grove since 1967.

Glen worked as a barber on St. Paul’s east side before going to work at Shoreview Barbers from the mid 1970s until retiring in 1997.
During his retirement, he enjoyed spending winters in Florida and Arizona.
Glen was also an outdoorsman, who especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of Cottage Grove; his children, Bill (Annie) Harris of Forest Lake, Chris (Al) Stewart of Cottage Grove and Tina (Jeremy) Eischens of Rosemount; five grandchildren; his mother, Florence Harris of Jackson; a brother, Mel (Candace) Harris of Tabres, Fla.; special in-laws, Ron (Linda) Bramstedt of Windom; and Cal (Linda) Drews of Mound.

Loren Moore

Loren Moore, 87, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Jeffers, died Jan. 28, 2002, at his daughter’s home in Tucson.
Services were held Saturday at United Methodist Church in Jeffers with Rev. Robert Gamble officiating.
Special music was provided by Janis Nickel, organist; and Richard Duroe, vocalist.

Casketbearers were Bernett Nickel, Steve Nickel, William Nickel, William Michel, Roger Hemiller and Dallas Giese.
Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.
Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home of Windom and Jeffers was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Loren I. Moore was born Feb. 8, 1914, to Henry and Ruby (Cleveland) Moore in Elmore. Loren lived with his family in Big Stone City, Lemmon and Hecla, S.D., until moving to Jeffers in 1922.

He was confirmed at United Methodist Church in Jeffers. He graduated as valedictorian from Jeffers High School, then attended Mankato Teachers College for two years, where he received his teaching certificate.

He worked for the Farmers Elevator Company in Jeffers, becoming manager of the cooperative in 1976.
In 1945, Loren served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in the Philippines and Guam until his honorable discharge in 1946.

In 1935, Loren married Mildred Kingsley in Jeffers. After retiring from the elevator, Loren and Mildred spent winters in Tuscon and summers in Jeffers and at their Fish Lake cabin until Mildred’s death in 1988. Loren continued the winter-summer stays until 1992, when he permanently moved to Tucson.

Following a stroke in 1998, Loren began living with his daughter in Tucson.
Loren was a longtime member of United Methodist Church in Jeffers where he taught Sunday School. He was also a member of the Jeffers American Legion Post and the Masonic Lodges: Builders Lodge #60 in Tucson, Royal Arch #48 in Windom, York Rites Commandeer #4 in Mankato, Zuhrah Shrine in Minneapolis; and Master of the Jeffers Masonic Lodge.

In Jeffers, he served as Justice of the Peace, on the volunteer Fire Department, and on the Cottonwood County Park Board.
Loren enjoyed boating, water skiing, fishing, woodworking, carpentry projects, dogs, gardening and playing cards and pool at the senior center.

In addition to his wife Mildred, Loren was preceded in death by a brother, George Moore, and a sister, Elsie Johnson.
Survivors include his daughter, Judith (James) Gillam of Tucson, Ariz.
