Leon A. Black, 89, of Fairfax, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Franklin Health Care Center.
Funeral services are tentatively set for 11 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery in Cairo Township, Renville County.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday.
Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.
Leon is survived by his brother Ormel Black of Sleepy Eye.
Leon Arthur Black was born on Oct. 27, 1913, in Cairo Township, Renville County, to Leonhard and Ida (Waknitz) Black.

Lilly Mae (Johnson) Eckstrom, 96, of Saint James died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in Saint James.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, at First Lutheran Church in St. James. Rev. Roy Harrisville III and Rev. K. Christian Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Kansas Lake Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Monday and 7:30-8:30 a.m., Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James
Lilly was born on April 15, 1907, to Lew and Mamie (Sheldahl) Johnson in Cambridge, Iowa. She was baptized at the Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley, Iowa, in 1907 and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City, Iowa, on June 5, 1921. Lilly graduated from St. James High School in 1925 and furthered her education by attending Mankato Teachers College from 1925-1926. She taught country school for two years. Because of a shortage of teachers during World War II, she went back to teaching for several more years. She taught in Districts 12, 19, 32 and 50 in Watonwan County. Lilly was united in marriage to Hjalmar Eckstrom on June 1, 1927, at the Kansas Lake Lutheran Church. She organized "Handy Helpers" 4-H Club in Odin, volunteered for the Hospital Auxiliary, belonged to the art club in Odin, and served as president of the Ladies Aid in the Odin and St. James Lutheran Churches. Lilly and Hjalmar enjoyed wintering in McAllen, Texas for 30 years. Lilly enjoyed sewing, crocheting afghans, and baking wonderful apple pies every Sunday.
Lilly is survived by her two children, LaDonna Levik and her husband Roy of Truman, Dale Eckstrom and his wife Marlene of St. James; three grandchildren, Bradley Eckstrom and his wife Sherree of St. James, Barbara Dietz and her husband Corey of Mankato, Ingrid Gangestad and her husband Nicholas of Stillwater; a grandson-in-law, Wayne Jurgens, of St. James; nine great-grandchildren, Amber, Ashley, Aryn and Aubrey Eckstrom, Lauren Duran, Nathan and Matthew Jurgens, Greta and Jack Gangestad; brother, Donald Johnson and his wife Mazel of Story City, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Joyce Johnson of Odin; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hjalmar in 1988; granddaughter, Kris Ann Jurgens; brothers, Gaylord and Luane Johnson; and sisters, Alice Abelson and Irene Jones.

Lester H. Monahan, 81, of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 12, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Friday, at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
He is survived by wife Agnes Monahan of Redwood Falls; son Lester Monahan of Redwood Falls; daughters, Sharleen Ann Neisius of Eagan, Mary Kaye Monahan of Minneapolis; brother Wayne Monahan of Yerington, Nev.; sisters, Mary Christopherson of Maplewood, Claudine Fericks of Cass Lake, Kathleen Baune of Wabasso; and three grandchildren.
He was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Wabasoo, to Robert and Carolice (Bolster) Monahan.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Delores Olson, 84, of Hector, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Renville county Hospital in Olivia.
Services are 11 a.m., Friday, July 11, at United Methodist Church in Hector, with burial in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before the service Friday at the church.
Hughes Funeral Homes handled arrangements.
She is survived by children, David Olson of Savage, John Olson of Lake Elmo, Richard Olson of Oakdale; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother Ray Piehl and Muriel of Hector; sisters, Audrey Wolff, Dorothy Everet of Litchfield, Helen Grabow of Renville, Marlys Kubesh of Buffalo Lake, Ann Goerke of Woodbury; brother George Olson of New Orleans.
She was born June 27, 1919, in Brownton to John and Elsie (Prosch) Piehl.

Florence Schroeder, 94, formerly of 522 6th South Street in New Ulm died Thursday, July 10, 2003 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Funeral service will be 2 PM Sunday, July 13, 2003 at the Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. The Reverend Perry Wieland will officiate. Visitation will be 1 - 2 PM Sunday at the Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
Florence is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Darleen and Vernon "Ader" Wieland of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Muriel Schroeder of Courtland and Gordon and Loretta Schroeder of Cambridge; eleven grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert on October 23, 1963; three sisters; and three brothers.
Florence was born September 6, 1908 in Linden Township, Brown County to Henry S. and Anna (Ring) Engel. She married Robert F. Schroeder on September 9, 1926 in Mankato. After marriage they farmed in Courtland Township, Nicollet County where they were dairy farmers with registered Holsteins. They moved to New Ulm in 1944 where she remained a homemaker her entire life. She was a member of the Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm, the United Methodist Women, New Ulm Senior Citizens and many card clubs. She enjoyed gardening flowers and vegetables, cooking, baking rolls and coffee cake and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Oakwood United Methodist church in New Ulm or to the donors choice.

Leon Arthur Black was born on Oct. 27, 1913, in Cairo Township, Renville County. He was the son of Leonhard and Ida (Waknitz) Black. Leon is survived by his brother, Ormel Black of Sleepy Eye.

Louis Dooner, 72, of Hutchinson, died on Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. at the Franklin City Cemetery in Franklin.
Arrangements are with the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson.
Louis Edward Dooner Jr. was born on Feb. 3, 1931, in Lamberton, to Louis Sr. and Elsie (Blank) Dooner. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from Dec. 1, 1951 to Dec. 10, 1955.
Louis is survived by his sister, Lorraine Bethke of Hutchinson and half sister, Arlys LaBerge of St. Paul.

Lila Bode, 88, formerly of rural Nicollet died Friday, July 11, 2003 at the St. Peter Community Health Care Center in St. Peter.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday July 14, 2003 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 6 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.
Lila is survived by her daughter and Son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Gary Peterson of Plymouth; sons and daughter-in-law, Myron "Mike" and Joanne Bode of rural Nicollet, Lowell Bode of Mankato; six grandchildren; and a great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hilbert Bode on April 29, 1997; a sister, Edna Wilking; and a brother, Armin Dallmann.
She was born on November 1, 1914 in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County to Ferdinand and Ida (Lieber) Dallmann. She married Hilbert Bode on April 19, 1936 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Courtland. After marriage they farmed in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County until retiring in the 1970's. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland and was a member of the Dorcas Society. She had been a resident of the St. Peter Community Health Care Center for the past three years.

Morris S. Schroeder, 89, of Fairfax, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the Fairfax Community Home.
Services will tentatively be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Fairfax, with interment in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Cairo Township, Renville County. Full military rites will be provided by the Fairfax Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 12:30-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.

Margaret Thompson, 96, of Gaylord, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, at United Church of Christ in Gaylord, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Gaylord.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., today and 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., Tuesday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord; and continues one hour before the services at the church.
There will be an Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m., today at the funeral home.
She is survived by stepdaughter Jean Feehan of Gaylord.
She was born Jan. 16, 1907, in Erie, Ill., to Thomas and Margaret (McManis) Hoffman.

Fay A. Freitag, 87, of Morton, died Monday, July 14, 2003, at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
Services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls with burial in Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by sons, Dean of St. Paul, Tom of Tacoma, Wash. and Dick of Green Bay, Wis.; daughter, Darla Scott of Minneapolis; sisters, Agnes Thompson of Duluth, Pearl Ruhl of St. Louis Park; brother, Richard of Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren.
She was born April 13, 1916, to Clement and Josephine Ruhl.

Lydia Herzog, 104, of New Ulm died Monday, July 14, 2003, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Thursday, July 17, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m., Thursday, at the church. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
Lydia is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Phyllis Herzog of Blaine; and by grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on October 21, 1983; and by sons, Robert and John Herzog.
She was born January 14, 1899, in Springfield. She married Charles J. Herzog on June 15, 1920, at the St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield.

Erma H. Laesch, 68, of rural Winthrop, died Monday, July 7, 2003, at the Glencoe Regional Hospital in Glencoe.
A private family interment will be held for both Erma and her husband Charles at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Webster, Wisconsin. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
Erma is survived by her daughters, Kristine Laesch of Quinlan, Texas, and Sheryl Johnson of Norwood; grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Malinda Johnson and Jesse Johnson; sisters, Star Parenteau of Minneapolis, Beulah Allickson of Blaine; a brother, and sister-in-law, Donald and Laura Jensen of Danbury, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Laesch on June 10, 2003; a brother, Lloyd Jensen; and a sister, Ruth Sederlund.
She was born April 29, 1935, in Frederic, Wisconsin, to Daniel and Eleda (Johnson) Jensen. She married Charles Laesch on March 13, 1965, in Pine City. Erma held various jobs out of high school including working as a stenographer and a receptionist for Social Services in Webster, Wisconsin and for the Lutheran Children's Home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After marriage she continued to work outside the home. She did volunteer work at hospitals and nursing homes, taught Sunday school and volunteered as a driver for the elderly. Her hobbies included, crocheting, rubber stamping and gardening. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop.

Mark and Cindy Linbo
Mark Linbo, 56, and Cindy Linbo, 53, died Sunday morning, July 13, 2003, near Nicollet, the result of an automobile accident.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 17, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Burial will follow at the New Ulm City Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm veterans organizations for Mr. Linbo.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a brief time of reflection and memories at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Cynthia Louise Walor, the daughter of Edward "Butch" and Nancy (Nelson) Walor, was born October 2, 1949, in Salem, Massachusetts. After graduating from Danvers High School in 1967, Cindy attended Lawrence General Nursing School in Lawrence, MA. She worked as a nurses aide at Hunt Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Mark Eugene Linbo, the son of John and LaVaine (Tiegen) Linbo, was born June 23, 1947, in Rochester. After graduating from Hayfield High School, he attended Rochester Community College. Mark enlisted in the United States Army in November, 1967, serving in Vietnam.
Cindy and Mark were united in marriage on January 5, 1969, in Danvers, MA. Following Mark's honorable discharge from the Army, the couple moved to Owatonna where Cindy worked for the Owatonna City Hospital and Mark began his career with AMPI. The family moved to New Ulm in 1978 where Cindy worked seven years part-time and seventeen years full-time for Kraft Foods. Mark continued to work for AMPI and coached various Park & Rec youth sports.
Cindy was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crafts and sewing. Mark was a member of the American Legion and Izaac Walton League. The couple enjoyed camping and fishing together. They were members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Cindy served on the Board of Education at their church for several years.
Survivors include their sons, Scott Linbo and his wife Elizabeth of Willmar, Brett Linbo and his wife Caliann of Round Lake, IL, Craig Linbo and his wife Kari of The Woodlands, TX; daughter, Melissa Linbo of Chicago, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Alexandra, Kassondra, Austin, Madison, Keyana, Makiah, Jazzlyn, and one due very soon. Cindy is also survived by her mother, Nancy Walor of Danvers, MA; brothers, Steven Walor and his wife JoAnne of Peabody, MA, Robert Walor of Danvers, MA; sister, Patricia DeAlmeida and her husband Joseph of Danvers, MA; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Butch Walor. Mark is also survived by his mother, LaVaine Linbo of Hayfield, MN; brothers, Danny Linbo and his wife Diane of Sargeant, MN, Kevin Linbo and his wife Georgena of Hayfield; sister, Rosie Mortenson and her husband Bruce of Minnetonka; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Father, John Linbo.

Morris Schroeder, 89, of Fairfax, died Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the Fairfax Community Home.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 16, at 2 p.m., at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Fairfax, with interment in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Cairo Township, Renville County. Full military rites will be provided by the Fairfax Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:30-2 p.m., at the church. Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.
Morris is survived by his sister, Mavis Hjulberg of Brooklyn Park.
Morris Sylvester Schroeder was born on Oct. 6, 1913, in Bandon Township, Renville County, to Carl August and Selma (Mundahl) Schroeder.
Morris entered the U.S. Army on April 20, 1942. He served in the Pacific during World War II and received an honorable discharge on Oct. 18, 1945.
