Alice Larson 80, formerly of Nicollet died Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at the St. Mary's Senior Living Center in Winsted.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, October 27, at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Helen Township, McLeod County with Pastor Dennis Reichow officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.
Alice is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Dr. Edgar Possin, of Kent, Washington; a daughter, Betty Freeman of Omaha, Nebraska; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Jennifer Starke, of Lester Prairie; a son-in-law, Richard Fuller, of Nicollet; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Adolph, on January 7, 1966; her second husband, Milton, on May 27, 1997; a daughter, Bonnie Fuller, on July 23, 2000; and by a brother, Linus Schmid.
Alice A. Larson, the daughter of Peter and Clara (Grau) Schmid, was born on June 5, 1923 in Milford Township, Brown County. She attended school in New Ulm. On June 21, 1943, she was united in marriage to Adolph Starke in North Mankato. After marriage they farmed in the rural Nicollet area until 1964 when they moved into Nicollet. After the death of Adolph, she married Milton Larson on October 29, 1972 in Lafayette. They continued to live in Nicollet. Alice moved to Glencoe in August of 2000. She was a former member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet and a member of the ladies aid at church. Currently she was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Helen Township, McLeod County.

Vivian Rykhus, 69, of Tracy died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy, with interment in the Tracy City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. today at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.
Vivian was born May 16, 1934, to Arthur and Ida (Hagen) Petersen on a farm near Dunnel, Martin County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. She attended country school before moving with her family to a farm near the Tracy area, where she attended Tracy High School and graduated in 1952.
On March 15, 1954, Vivian married Donald Rykhus at the Tracy United Methodist Church. They made their home on a farm east of Tracy, and in 1962, moved to Tracy. Vivian worked at the egg plant in Marshall, and from the early 1980s until her retirement in 1999, as dietician at the Christian Manor Nursing Home in Tracy.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the church's women's group. She was currently the vice-president and past president of the Tracy VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Tracy Prime Timers. Vivian enjoyed flower gardening, country music, travelling, and most of all, spending time with her family.
Vivian is survived a daughter, Sharon (Jim) Anderson of Owatonna; five sons, Steven (JoAnn) of New Ulm, Terry (Patty) of Chandler, Ariz., Scott (LaVonne) of Sartell, Kevin (Lynda) of New Ulm, and Brian of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, LaVon Egge of Tracy, and Barbara DeSmet of Omaha, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents; husband Donald; daughter, Stacey Jo; and five brothers preceded her in death.

Lyle E. Muehlbauer, 82, formerly of rural New Ulm, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with Father John Richter officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 - 8 p.m. Monday and will continue from 7:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in New Ulm.
Lyle is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marlys and Jim McLean of Andover; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sue Muehlbauer of Sleepy Eye; a sister, Eva Kokesh, a resident of the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye; and a sister-in-law, Magdalen Muehlbauer of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bertha on Dec. 29, 1999; and by a brother, Delmar "Boots" Muehlbauer on Dec. 29, 2002.
Lyle was born on May 14, 1921, in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, the middle child of Louis and Anna (Klossner) Muehlbauer. He attended rural school in Lafayette Township and farmed with his parents. On June 16, 1948, Lyle married Bertha Sellner at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Lyle and his wife continued to farm the Muehlbauer home farm and lived there into retirement.
Lyle moved to Ridgeway on German in New Ulm in early 2000, living there for three years. He became a resident of the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia, and more recently, became a resident of the Divine Providence Home in Sleepy Eye. He was a lifelong member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
Lyle was well known in Lafayette Township as a surveyor for tiling and had served for several years on the rural school board. Lyle loved all the seasons of farming, with harvest being his most favorite.

Stanley H. Schnobrich, 81, of 500 N. Franklin St. in New Ulm, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with Father Samuel Perez officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 - 10 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. John's Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., both Sunday at the funeral home.
Stanley is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Sharon and William Skowronek of Minneapolis, and Renea Schnobrich of Neenah, Wis.; a son, Ronald J. Schnobrich of New Ulm; and his granddaughters, Jessica and Jana Skowronek. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Margaret in August 1975.
Stanley was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Cottonwood Township, Brown County, to Emil and Frances (Stadick) Schnobrich. He attended New Ulm Catholic Schools and was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School.
Stanley served in the U.S. Navy from September 1942 to December 1945. He served in the Pacific Theatre on a minesweeper and the last two years on an attack transport, the USS Pickaway. After his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he worked at Auto Electric in New Ulm, then at 3M in New Ulm from 1968 to 1986, when he retired.
Stanley was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, St. John's Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post 132, Albert Nagel VFW Post 1648, and the Lost Dog and Fox Hunters Club. Stanley enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips, woodworking and visiting with friends.

Wayman Hanson, age 78, of Litchfield, died on Friday, October 24, 2003 at Meeker County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 28, at 10:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield with Pastor Harvey Nelson and Pastor Tim Hansen officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Military honors will be provided by Admiral Benson V.F.W. Post #2818 of Litchfield and Nelsan-Horton American Legion Post #104 of Litchfield. Interment will be held at Ripley Cemetery.
Wayman Hanson, the son of Arthur and Alice (Madsen) Hanson, was born on November 19, 1924 in the Acton General Store in Acton, Minnesota. He grew up in Litchfield and graduated from the Litchfield High School in 1942. Wayman attended college until entering the service. During WWII he served in the Army Air Corps and was stationed In Alaska. During the Korean Conflict he served in the Army and retired his military service in the National Guard In the grade of First Sergeant. Wayman was united in marriage to Lynette Lindner on September 12, 1945 in Atwater. They lived in Litchfield for their whole life. He was employed by the Thomas and Sons Trucking Company, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) for many years and also the Litchfield Chrystler Corporation. He was a member of Arndahl and Zion Lutheran Church. Wayman also was a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He enjoyed going to 'the board meeting' (coffee with his friends at Swan's) and he enjoyed practical jokes that matched his sense of humor.
He is survived by daughters Peggy (Hugh) Smith of Darwin and Susan (Denny) Penkert of New Ulm, ; grandchildren Anne (Lance) Wiggert of Hutchinson, Mike Penkert of New Ulm, Michelle (Steve Nelson) Larson of Litchfield and Chris Penkert of Eagan; great grand-children. Mike, Matthew, Megan, Chloe, Aili and Helena; brothers Deloy (Evelyn) Hansen of South Carolina and Merle (Shirley) Hanson of Colorado. Wayman is also survived by special friend Elta Simmons of Litchfield and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lynette and infant daughter Kathleen.

Darlene Olson, 65, of Mankato, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, with burial in Minneopa Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.

Darlene Albrecht, 91, of New Ulm, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 22, 2003, at the Glen Oaks Nursing Home in New London, where she had resided for the past two months.
Funeral services will be held on 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Fireside Room of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Home in New Ulm, with Rev. Thomas Henning officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, New Ulm Public Library and the New Ulm Concord Singers are preferred.
Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar.
She is survived by three daughters, Caryl (and Rolf) Peterson of Willmar, Sharon (and Winfried) Kathke of Germany, and Marilyn (and Steven) Wellman of Marshall; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Mildred Halvorson of Willmar; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gilbert in 1982; and brothers, Lowell, Lloyd and Lyle Mack.
Darlene Albrecht was born March 28, 1912, in Florence, S.D., the daughter of Minnie A. (Larson) and Oscar E. Mack. She grew up in Lake Preston, S.D., was baptized at the Lake Preston Methodist Church, confirmed as an adult in the Lutheran faith in Jamestown, N.D., and graduated from the Lake Preston High School. She attended the Dakota State Teachers College in Madison, S.D., and the University of Colorado. She taught elementary school in Egan, S.D., and New Ulm.
She married Gilbert A. Albrecht on June 2, 1937, at Lake Preston, S.D. They lived in North Dakota until 1945, when they moved to New Ulm. For more than 20 years Darlene was employed at the New Ulm Public Library. She was active in various church women's activities, the Turner Ladies and the Current News Club.

Edna D. Koepp, 75, of Morgan, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at her home.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at St. John Lutheran Church, Morgan. Burial will be in Hills of Rest Cemetery, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Visitation is Thursday at the church, from 11 a.m. until services.
She is survived by a daughter Priscilla "Pat" Van Donselaar of Sioux Falls; brothers, Howard Larson of Seattle, Wash., and Clifford Larson of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Salem, S.D. to Edward and Maria (Sandberg) Larson.
Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Morgan is handling arrangements.

Philip T. LeGare Jr., 81, of Redwood Falls, formerly of Wabasso, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Methodist Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m.m Tuesday at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to services.
He is survived by his wife Doreen; children, Chuck of Iowa City, Iowa; Pat of Renville, Judy Kodet of Olivia and Bruce of Elk River; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers and two sisters.
He was born April 30, 1922, in Marshall, Minn., to Philip Sr. and Valeria (Schweninger LeGare.
Arrangements were handled by Redwood Valley Funeral Home.

Charles Neitzel, 100, of Morton, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Zion Lutheran Church in Morton with burial in Morton City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Tuesday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home and Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his son Charles of New Ulm; daughter Lou Plotnik of Apple Valley; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was born Nov. 21, 1902, near Morton to Hermann and Louise (Kneuppel) Neitzel.

Darlene Olson, 65, of Mankato, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Funeral Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Grace Lutheran Church, Rev. Joel Erikson officiating. Burial is in Minneopa Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home and resumes one hour before the funeral at the church.
Memorials are preferred to: Friends of the Library, Minnesota Historical Society or the Fort Hill Park/Hanska Lake Park c/o Brown County Parks.
Darlene Beatrice was born on March 5, 1938, in St. James to Walter and Aldine (Nelson) Wacker. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. James. Darlene attended school in District 36, Watonwan County, and graduated from St. James High School in 1956. She studied at Mankato Commercial College and worked for La Salle Farmers Grain Co. On Nov. 9, 1957, Darlene married Clifford Olson in St. James. Before starting her family, she worked for McClain & Coleman. When she resumed her career, she began working for Overhead Door Co. For eight years she worked for Lutheran Social Services and retired in 2001 from Volk Electric of St. Peter. A member of Grace Lutheran Church since her marriage and move to Mankato, Darlene enjoyed tent camping, fishing, reading, cooking, gardening and keeping her home spotless.
Darlene B. Olson is survived by three sons: Gary of Loretto, David of Rice Lake, WI and Daniel (Kim) of Albert Lea; two sisters: Julie Easterday (Ronald) of Hamilton, OH and Aldona Wacker of Madelia; two grandchildren: Zack and Bethany Jensen and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1980 and sister Georgine Duerksen.

Sandra Young, 52, of Kasota, died Sunday Oct. 26, 2003, at the St. Peter Community Hospital in St. Peter.
Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, at the St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to service Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the family.
Sandra was born Aug. 7, 1951, in Pierre S.D. She attended grade school in Fargo, S.D., junior high in Sioux City, Iowa, and graduated from St. Peter High School. Sandra then attended Technical School in Mankato to become a nurse's aide. After graduating she worked for ISJ in Mankato. More recently Sandra worked for the AmericInn in St. Peter and Uniman. She married Scott Young in October of 1989 at their home in Kasota. Sandra loved plants, animals and her three dogs.
She is survived by her husband Scott of Kasota; parents Elmer and Muriel (Vangstad) Grams of New Ulm; brother Steven and wife Cheryl of Tucson, Ariz.; nieces, nephews, many aunts, uncles and friends.
Sandra was preceded in death by her son Jason Thomas in 1993.

Dennis W. Bushard, 72, of Joshua Tree, Calif., formerly of New Ulm, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Kindred Hospital, Ontario, Calif., from complications after heart surgery.
Dennis was born on Jan. 3, 1931, in New Ulm to Eugene, Sr. and Elona (Hoffmann) Bushard. He attended area schools. In 1949, he joined the Gib Schreyer's Trail Riders Band, playing the accordion. He served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada. After military service, he moved to the Los Angeles area, where he worked for more than 40 years as a shipping agent.
After retirement, Dennis moved to Joshua Tree, Calif., where he pursued his interest in astronomy. He was also interested in genealogy, tracing and compiling the Bushard family ancestry back to the 1700s.
Dennis is survived by sisters, Marlene Clyne, Douglas, Neb., Beatrice and Richard Stahn, Osakis, and Mary Benson, New Ulm; brothers, Eugene Bushard, Great Falls, Mon., Howard and Marie Bushard, Dent, and Carlos and Kim Bushard, Coker, Ala.; aunt, Marjorie Ott, Arlington; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Rose Bushard; brother-in-law, Donald Clyne; niece, Audrey Clyne; and nephews, Norbert Bushard and Ronald Bushard.
Dennis will be fondly remembered for his endless wit and sadly missed by his family and friends.

Helen Kettner, 89, of Nicollet, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at the Grandview Good Samaritan Center in St. Peter.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with Pastor Luke Myslik officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. today at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet, and for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.
Helen is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Edward Grunst; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith "Skeeter" and Mary Kettner, all of Nicollet; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Ardella and Herb Engel of Arlington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Wanita Krohn of rural Courtland, and Marlen and Darlane Krohn of New Ulm; and sisters-in-law, Ruby and Vivian Krohn, both of Nicollet.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervin "Tom" Kettner on Oct. 2, 1975; a son, Gary Kettner and another son who was stillborn; sisters, Esther Pipping and Edna Wilking; and brothers, Raymond Krohn, Melvin Krohn, and Fred Krohn Jr.
Helen was born Oct. 20, 1914, in Granby Township, Nicollet County, to Fred and Theresa (Enter) Krohn. She attended country school in Granby Township. On Dec. 29, 1935, she married Ervin "Tom" Kettner in Nicollet. She was a cook at the Franklin School in Mankato and then at Trinity Lutheran School in Nicollet. She also worked the corn pack in Le Sueur.
Ervin and Helen owned and operated Kettner's Sundries in Nicollet from 1963-1972. She then sold Avon and made pies for Kettner's Korner. Helen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet and also the Ladies Guild at church. She was a resident of the Grandview Good Samaritan Center in St. Peter for four years spending the last five weeks in hospice.

Mabel D. Newman, 91 of Monroe, Wash., formerly of New Ulm, died Oct. 15, 2003.
She is survived by her husband Bill; their children Gretchen of Monroe, Wash.; Janeen of Iroquois, Ontario; Quentin of Seminole, Fla, ; Elizabeth Thompson of Hull, Mass.; John of Minneapolis, and Mark of Los Angeles, Calif., and six grandchildren.
Mabel was born on July 29, 1912, in Little Falls, Minn.
