Florence M. Brakke, 89, of 413 South Washington Street in New Ulm died Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
Florence is survived by four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Alice Hudson of Burnsville, and Ann Armentrout of New Market, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Samuel Brakke; a daughter, Joanne Mulkern; a sister, Eleanor Yost; a brother, John "Bud" Reitter; and by a brother-in-law, Gordon Hudson.
Florence was born May 1, 1914 to John and Anna (Sellner) Reitter in Morgan. She married Samuel Brakke on July 15, 1937 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.
She was a graduate of New Ulm High School and the Minneapolis Business College. She was a legal secretary at the law firm of Pfaender and Glotzbach in New Ulm and was the Credit and Collection Manager at Loretto Hospital in New Ulm.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, St. Joan Guild, St. Theresa Court of Foresters, New Ulm Medical Center Auxiliary, Turner Ladies Society, Brown County Historical Society, Lind House Association and the Wanda Gag Association.

Harold V. Carlson, 75, of Darfur, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003 at Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Services will be2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey, with interment at the Congregation Cemetery near Comfrey.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home In Comfrey,and will continue
from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey.
He is survived by his wife - Anita Carlson of Darfur; a son, Bradley Carlson of Rochester; daughters, Dawn Gage of Rochester, and Brenda Berberich of Byron; five grandchildren; and a brother, Edner Carlson of Aladdin, Wyo.
Harold Virgil Carlson was born April 15, 1928, to Gustaf E. and Helga K (Johnson) Carlson in Adrian Township, Watonwan County.

Jerome 'Jerry' Janke, 66, of Brownton, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at the Arlington Good Samaritan Home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Brownton, with interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Brownton.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and Saturday, from 8 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Military honors will be provided by the Brownton American Legion Honor Guard.
Arrangements are pending with the Hantge Funeral Chapel of Brownton.

Eugene 'Lemon' LeMoine, 80, of New Ulm died Monday, December 29, 2003 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father John Richter and Deacon Mark Steffl officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday and will continue from 7:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a 6:30 p.m. rosary by the St. Joseph Catholic Aid Council and a 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service both Friday at the funeral home.
Lemon is survived by his wife, Rosalin "Rosie" LeMoine of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Jerome Clyne and Jaculin and Richard Rohde all of New Ulm; grandchildren, Dustin Schweiss, Darcy Brey, Daisy Brey, Kari Butcher, and Holly Dybsetter and her husband, Graham; and a sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Holcomb of Mankato. Lemon was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Elsie (Nun) LeMoine and by a brother-in-law, Victor Holcomb.
Eugene Arthur LeMoine, the son of Eugene and Elsie (Nun) LeMoine was born on December 26, 1923 in New Ulm. He was a 1942 graduate of Holy Trinity High School in New Ulm. He served in the United States Army as a medical technician enlisting in May of 1943 and was honorably discharged in December of 1945. He married Rosalin Polzin on April 24, 1951, at the St. George Catholic Church, St. George. Lemon retired from Borden's in New Ulm after working there for thirty-nine years. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the St. Joseph Catholic Aid Council, the Seifert Bianchi American Legion Post #132 and the #15 Chapter DAV both in New Ulm. He had been a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center since November 2003.

Lowell B. Weedman, 75, of Clements died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at Springfield Medical Center in Springfield
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield, with interment at the Springfield City Cemetery in Springfield.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. and at the church Saturday one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Lorna of Clements; his son, Kevin Weedman of Clements; a sister, Mary Ann Hanson of Hutchinson; and a brother, Kenneth Weedman of Walnut Grove.
Lowell Bernard Weedman was born March 10, 1928 to Loran and Hattie (Schumacker) Weedman in Charlestown Township, Redwood County.

Delores 'Tootie' Wenner, 70, of Morgan, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at the Sleepy Eye Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan, with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Morgan. There will be a CCW and Catholic Aid Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a parish scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her husband, Philip, of Morgan; sons, Philip Wenner Jr. of Courtland, Roger Wenner of Cloquet, Richard Wenner of Sleepy Eye, and Tom Wenner of New Ulm; daughters, Roberta Mikolich of Eagan, Nancy Schultz of Franklin, Karla Smith of Casa Grande, Ariz., and DeAnn "DeeDee" Wenner of Morton; brothers, Ray Kerkhoff and Glenn Kerkhoff, both of Morgan; sisters, Lucille Eischens of Comfrey and Verna Mertz of Morgan.
She was born Feb. 23, 1933, in Sleepy Eye to Ben and Theresia (Wimmer) Kerkhoff.

Marie Abraham, 82, of Gaylord, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, and at the church Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her husband, Edgar Agbraham of Gaylord; sons, Ronald Abraham of Elysian and Jon Abraham of Gaylord; one grandchild; brothers, Charles Anderson of Gaylord and Vernon Anderson of Minneapolis, and sisters, Joanne Messner of Anoka, Joyce Schloegel of Roseville, and Helen Schlottman of Stafford, Va.
She was born Oct. 12, 1921, in Nicollet County to Ernest and Grace (Olson) Anderson.

Orland J. Boyum, 76, of Eagle Lake died at his home and was found Wednesday, December 31, 2003.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Central Lutheran Church, rural Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home in Mankato is handling arrangements.
Mr. Boyum was born July 3, 1927 in Franklin to Louis and Nora (Nelson) Boyum. He grew up in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After serving he returned to Franklin and worked various jobs there. In 1976 he moved to the Mankato area where he started his own business, Boyum Supply, which he was still operating at the time of his death. He enjoyed golfing, watching sports, and his coffee meetings every morning with his friends. He was a member of the Eagle Lake American Legion Post #617.
Mr. Boyum is survived by two brothers, Lyman and wife Pauline of Trumbull, CT and Stanley and wife Rachel of Madelia; many nieces and nephews and step nieces and nephews.

Bertha Gieseke, 87, of New Ulm and formerly of rural Courtland, died Thursday, January 1, 2004 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father John Richter celebrating. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and on Monday from 7:30 until 10 a.m. at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Cathedral, the St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society will pray thy rosary at 5:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. both Sunday at the funeral home.
Bertha is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was the last surviving member of her family, being preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erwin Gieseke, on November 13, 1987, and by ten brothers and sisters; John, Anthony, Louis, George, Albert, Jack, Ann, Marie, Barbara, and Rose.
Bertha Fleck, the daughter of Anton and Barbara (Saffert) Fleck was born on June 20, 1916 in New Ulm. She attended school in New Ulm. Bertha worked at Stork Brothers Produce Company in New Ulm for many years before her marriage to Erwin Gieseke on November 22, 1938 at the Holy Trinity Parish House in New Ulm. After their marriage they farmed in Courtland Township, Nicollet County up until 1980 when they retired but continued to live on the farm place. She moved to New Ulm and lived at Sunset Apartments for a period of time before becoming a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in August of 1998. Bertha was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, a member of the Christian Mothers Society and the St. Elizabeth Catholic Aid Society.

Mary Ann Larsen, 72, of Brooklyn Center, formerly of Fairfax, died Dec. 31, 2003 in Brooklyn Center.
Services are 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at Central Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Burial will be in in Hauges Cemetery, Fairfax.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Evans-Nordby Funeral Home, Osseo and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by children Chuck Larsen, Tami Christopher and Jay Larsen; siblings Dorothy Christensen, Jean Hillmann and Robert Berg; and five grandchildren.
She was born Aug. 24, 1931, in New Ulm.

Carl A.W. Larson, 96, formerly of rural Gibbon, died Friday, January 2, 2004 at the Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care Unit.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm with Rev. Timothy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm.
Carl Algot Waldemar Larson, the son of Hans and Alma Larson, was born October 28, 1907 in Sweden. He emigrated to the United States with his family when he was five, settling in the Butternut area and later moved to a farm in Milford Township, near New Ulm. Carl married Ione Schreyer June 11, 1935 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After their marriage, they purchased a farm near Lafayette which they operated until 1948. After spending eleven years in North Mankato, they owned and operated a farm west of Gibbon until moving to New Ulm in 1993. Carl has been a resident of the Heritage House in Gaylord since December 1993. Ione died January 4, 1994. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
Survivors include his son, Gerald Larson and his wife Carol of New Ulm; sisters, Della Johns and her husband Norman of Glenwood, Alice Larson of Medicine Lake, Edna Lentz of Winthrop; brother, Alfred Larson and his wife Dorothy of Morgan; a sisster-in-law, Donna Larson of Mineneapolis; nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Carl was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Ed R. Lowinske, 85, of Sleepy Eye, died on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital in Sleepy Eye.
Service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, with interment in Home Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, and 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his brother Leonard Lowinske of Sleepy Eye, three grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
Ed was born on Nov. 1, 1918 in Brown County to Fred and Minnie (Seidl) Lowinske.
He served in the U.S. Army.

Pauline Wiest, 85, of St. Paul, formerly of Buffalo Lake, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at her son's home in St. Paul.
Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake, with burial in Zion Evangelical Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the church. Hughes Funeral Home in Hector is handling arrangements.
She is survived by a daugher, Kathline Lewis of Round O, S.C.; sons, Duane Wiest Jr. of St. Paul, and Douglas Wiest of Pine City; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and three brothers.
She was born Jan. 13, 1918, in Poland, Penn. to Michael and Maria Golitko.

Earl Cunningham, 90, of Sleepy Eye died Thursday, January 1, 2004 at the Sleepy Eye Community Hospital in Sleepy Eye.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 at the former Minnesota Valley Funeral Home Location at 521 West Main in Sleepy Eye with burial in the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Pastor Randy Miller will be officiating.
The visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Sunday and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service on Monday at the former Minnesota Valley Funeral Home location at 521 West Main in Sleepy Eye. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Earl Cunningham was born to Ray and Lillie (Wachtler) Cunningham on August 6, 1913. He grew up on the family farm south of Sleepy Eye and attended Quail Trap country grade school, Sleepy Eye High School, and North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. After a period of work and travel he married Della Schultz in Sleepy Eye on December 31, 1938. They made their first home in California where Earl worked in the orange groves and as a tool & die maker for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation.
In 1946 they returned to the family farm where their family grew to include two sons and two daughters. The diversified farm operation also grew to encompass 400 acres, including a certified seed business and the production of purebred Columbia sheep. Mr. Cunningham's many leadership roles included serving as director/officer of the Brown County Farm Bureau, the American Sheep Producers Council, the North Central Wool Marketing Association, the National Wool Council, the International Wool Secretariat, and the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home. The family farm became one of the first totally organic farming operations in the Middle West, from which he was instrumental in organizing and operating several organic farming organizations. He was a leader and spokesman for natural agriculture and responsible stewardship of the land - which he viewed as God's precious earth.
Earl enjoyed travel within the U.S. and to the Soviet Union, South Africa, countries in South America and Europe, and numerous Asian rim countries. He sustained lifelong church involvement and leadership, most recently as a member of the Highland Baptist Church in St. James.
On December 31, 2003 he and his wife celebrated 65 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Della of Sleepy Eye; daughters, June Lloyd of Dallas, Texas, and Joy Cunningham of St. Paul; sons, Reverend Lee and wife Roxanne Cunningham of Arden Hills, Van and wife Linda Cunningham of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren; E. Christopher Lloyd of Durham, North Carolina, Jason Cunningham of Sleepy Eye, Jennifer Reck of Seattle, Washington, Matthew Cunningham of Kilgore, Texas, Mark Cunningham of Duluth; and a great grandson, E. Carter Lloyd of Durham, North Carolina.

Bradley "Brad" R. Serbus, 35 of Morristown, formerly of the Franklin and Bird Island area, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003 at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in the church Cemetery, with military honors.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls, with a parish prayer service at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his mother and ztepfather, Martha and Jim Nesburg, Redwood Falls; brothers, Russell Serbus of Cleveland, Dean Serbus of Victorville, CA; Rodney Serbus of Granger, IA; Brian Serbus of Redwood Falls, and Curt Serbus of Apple Valley, and a sister, Paulette Nohava of Clearwater.
He was born June 22, 1968 in Redwood Falls, to George F. and Martha R. (Schneider) Serbus.
