Remona Petersen, 91,of Sanborn, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Service is 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 12, at United Methodist Church in Sanborn. Burial will be in the Sanborn City Cemetery.
Visitation is noon until time of service Saturday at the church.
Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.
She is survived by her daughter, Faith Johnson of Sanborn; three grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Charlotte Starken of Rochester and Roberta Ihnen of Lamberton; brothers, Wayne Dietz of Anoka, and Burton Dietz of Raleigh, N.C.
She was born April 24, 1913, in Sleepy Eye to Charles and Precious (Johnston) Dietz.
The Rev. Thomas William Hasseries, 61, of Windom, died June 4, 2004, in Mankato.
Services are 10 a.m., Saturday, at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Windom and 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 15, at Bishop Whipple Mission, Lower Sioux Indian Reservation at Morton.
Arrangements are with Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls.
He is survived by his wife the Rev. Teresia Calene-Hasseries; daughter, Elizabeth McKeeman; son, Patrick Hasseries of Windom; stepchildren, Rebecca Mattson, Ben Wilburn and Peter Wilburn, all of Wenatchee, Wash.; two grandchildren; brother the Rev. Robert Hasseries of Cashmere, Wash.
He was born July 20, 1942, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Robert and Ruth (Hays) Hasseries.
Lyle Sondag, 82, of Appleton, died on Thursday, June 10, 2004, at the Appleton Municipal Nursing Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church in Appleton with Fr. Michael Doyle Celebrant of the Mass. Interment will be at the Appleton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, 5 to 8 p.m., at St. John's Catholic Church. The Knights of Columbus Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday evening followed by the parish wake service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday morning. Vaala Funeral Home in Appleton is in charge of the arrangements for Lyle Sondag.
Francis Lyle Sondag was born on June 19, 1921, in Granby Township, Nicollet County, to parents John and Marie (Itschert) Sondag. He was baptized and confirmed at the Church of the Visitation in Nicollet County. Lyle attended school at rural District 420, Nicollet County.
On October 4, 1949, he was married to Marian J. Rein at the Church of the Visitation. They began their married life together as dairy and crop farmers in Nicollet County. In 1972 they purchased the farm north of Appleton and Lyle continued farming until retiring in 1996. In January of 1997 he became a resident of the Appleton Municipal Nursing Home.
Lyle liked fixing machinery. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and attending surrounding church dinners and picnics. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Council #2129 of Benson, St. Paul's Catholic Aid Council #377 of Appleton and was a Catholic Aid member since 1937. Lyle came from a family with a religious background having several family members in the Sisters of Notre Dame and also in the priest and brotherhood.
Lyle died on Thursday morning, June 10, at the Appleton Municipal Nursing Home. He had reached the age of 82 years, 11 months, and 21 days,
He is survived by his wife, Marian; five children: Gerald Sondag of Appleton, Annette (Doug) Redepenning of Milbank, SD, Wayne (Jacquie) Sondag of St. James, Dianne (Steven) Schwartz of Parkers Prairie, Timothy Sondag of Appleton, and William (Stephanie) Sondag of Benson; ten grandchildren: Randy and Renee Redepenning, Jesse, Amanda and Matthew Sondag, Anthony, Jeremy, Jonathon and Veronica Schwartz, and Danielle Sondag; his brother, Charles Sondag, of New Ulm; two sisters: Catherine Wolling of Fairfax and Lorraine Dawning of Minneapolis; nieces, nephews, and other relatives,
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister, John and Ruby Sondag; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Delores Sondag; brother-in-law, Lloyd Wolling; and sister-in-law, Magdalen Sondag.
Harry Theodore Johnson, 88,of Saint James, died on Thursday, June 10, 2004, in St. James.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Augustana Lutheran Church, St. James, with buria in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 1, 1915 in rural Watonwan County to Axel and Alma (Englin) Johnson.
He is survived by daughters, Diane Winter of Austin, and Kathy Johnson of St. Paul; sons, Dennis and Gary, both of St. James; and three grandchildren.
Muriel Mae Siekmann, 46, of Olivia died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
Funeral services are Monday 1:30 p.m. at Cross Of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia with Rev. Matt Hausken officiating. Burial is at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Springfield, MN.
Visitation is Sunday 5-9 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and continues Monday at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Muriel Mae Siekmann was born January 21, 1958 at Marshall, MN to Glen and Evelyn (Hamilton) Siekmann. She grew up at Springfield, MN and graduated from Springfield High School in 1976. Muriel then lived in Willmar where she was employed in the Dietary Department of Rice Hospital. She has now lived in Olivia for many years. Muriel was employed as a CNA at the Olivia Healthcare Center these past 15 years. Muriel was a wonderful mother as Darcy was the very center of her world. Muriel enjoyed tending her flower and vegetable gardens, going bowling, decorating her home, making fleece blankets, and she loved birds and birdhouses. Muriel enjoyed special moments assisting Darcy with Girl Scouting. Muriel was a member of Cross Of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia. Muriel not only enjoyed being a great mom to Darcy, and a dear friend to many, but she also truly loved spending time with her mother, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Muriel has been hospitalized at North Memorial Hospital, in Robbinsdale, MN since May 30th and she died there on Thursday evening, June 10, 2004.
Muriel is survived by her daughter, Darcy Siekmann of Olivia, her mother Evelyn Siekmann of Franklin, her seven sisters and two brothers; Janet (and Leonard) Groff of Springfield, Beverly (and Larry) Roiger of Cannon Falls, Glenda Zupfer of Franklin, Connie (and Steven) Gregg of Sleepy Eye, Ruth (and David) Johnson of Mankato, Garry (and Gail) Siekmann of Dale City, VA, Gloria (and Lee) Hale of Sleepy Eye, Duane Siekmann of Franklin and Laura Siekmann of Fairmont, many nieces and nephews and one great-nephew. Muriel was preceded in death by her father, Glen Siekmann, and her great-niece, Emma Groff.
Lucille H. Kiecker, 91, of Fairfax died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 14, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, Renville County with Pastor Matthew Kuske officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Emanuel Lutheran Church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou Wehking of Bethel; grandchildren, Roy Wehking, Terry Wehking both of Lake Elmo, Lynda Gilbertson and her husband, Jay of Bethel; Jay Wehking and his wife, Carmen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; great grandchildren, Derek Bol, Jordan Wehking, Jake Wehking, and Colton Wehking; and her sister, Johanna Bregel of Gibbon. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Helmuth W. Kiecker on October 17, 1995; a son, James Kiecker; her son-in-law, Russel Wehking; sisters, Mabel Clobes, Evelyn Martin; and brothers, Herbert Berger and Harvey Berger.
Lucille H. Berger was born on February 6, 1913 in Sibley County to Otto and Anna (Damschen) Berger. On November 6, 1932 she married Helmuth W. Kiecker at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township. After marriage they farmed the Kiecker family farm in Martinsburg Township, Renville County. In 1981 they retired from farming and moved into Fairfax. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.
Robert J. Heymans, 78, of Denver, CO, formerly of Sleepy Eye, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2004, at Regency Care Center in Monroe, WA.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. in the Divine Providence Chapel on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of services at the Chapel on Tuesday. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Robert J. Heymans was born on August 27, 1925, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Martin and Veronica (Jungers) Heymans. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. He attended St. Mary's School for twelve years. After high school, Robert moved to Minneapolis, attending the University of Minnesota through the U.S. Navy V-12 program. He married Catherine (Guldan) Heymans on April 12, 1947. Following graduation he worked for Stanley Aviation as a project manager of the first jet ejection seat. He then worked for Martin Marietta Corporation in the aerospace industry. He was involved in many fascinating projects including the Titan missiles; Skylab, the nation's first space station, and such things as the drill-bit used to retrieve core samples of the moon's surface during lunar exploration missions. One of his passions was flying single and twin engine airplanes, logging many hours at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Airport. He was an avid bird hunter and field trial enthusiast. He also loved skiing and became a ski instructor at Winter Park, CO.
Robert is survived by sons, Michael of Highlands Ranch, CO; Jerry of Winona, MN; daughters, Patt (Heymans) Nowfel of Aurora, CO; Mary Elizabeth (Heymans) Moon of Duvall, WA; grandchildren, Blake & Ross Heymans of Winona, MN and Kyla Grace Moon of Duvall, WA; sister, Francis Heymans; brother Philip Heymans; sister-in-law Betty (Mandel) Heymans and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents and daughter Therese Heymans of Denver, CO.
Amy A. Sprengeler, age 98 of Winthrop, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2004, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Amy Aurora (Benson) Sprengeler was born February 12, 1906 in Bismarck Twp., Sibley Co., MN. She was the daughter of John A. and Anna M. (Swanson) Benson. Amy attended the rural school in District 76 through the eighth grade and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1924. She continued her education at Mankato State Teacher's College, taking a course in rural school teaching. She taught in the rural schools of Sibley County for ten years.
Amy was united in marriage with Arnold Gottfried Sprengeler on August 6, 1936, at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. The couple made their home and farmed in Bismarck Twp., on the 100 year Benson family farm site.
Amy and Arnold shared 54 years of marriage before Arnold passed away on October 10, 1990. Amy continued living on the farm site until she moved into Winthrop. When she needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center on October 13, 1998.
Amy was a life long, devoted member of First Lutheran Church in Winthrop. She was active, in the past, with the Lutheran Church Women, Dorcas, Miriam Circle, church choir, Historical Committee, Memorial Committee and the Centennial Committee. Amy enjoyed spending time visiting with her family and friends, along with quilting and gardening. Amy and Arnold were active in community activities, especially in the construction of the Winthrop Community Home, now called the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Amy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; brother, Graydon Benson and two half sisters, Lillian (Mrs. Carl) Johnson and Effie (Mrs. Clarence) Peterson.
Amy is survived by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mildred Cohrs 87, of Westbrook, died on Thursday, June 11, 2004, in Westbrook.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook, with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery, Dovray.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Monday at Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her children, Edward of Sanborn, Rosann Schmidt of Tracy, and Paul of Dovray; seven grandchildren; and sisters, Lois Knutson of Slayton, Eleanore Bunker of Currie, and Beverly Saling of Bay Point, Okla.
She was born on April 30, 1917, in Plattsmouth, Neb., to James and Louisa Muenchau Smith.
Leila Vera "Lee" Kurtz, 99, of Redwood Falls, died on Thursday, June 10, 2004 in Redwood Falls.
Services are 1:30 pm Thursday, June 17, at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls, with burial at Dannebo Cemetery in Brookville Township, Redwood County, south of Morgan.
She is survived by son, Cal Hansen, of Hayfield; daughter: Lois Mae Armstrong of Topeka, Kansas; three granddaughters; a great grandson; and sister, Blanche Schultz of Mission, Texas.
She was born Sept. 2, 1904, in Sundown Township, Redwood County, to Peter and Helga (Madsen) Frederickson.
Jordan Hillmann, 19, of Hector, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, in a head-on collision near Marshall.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 16, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Tuesday at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Edward H. 'Buddy' Horner Jr., 62, of 827 North Valley in New Ulm, died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with Father John A. Richter officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm veterans organizations.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Monday, and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service on Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Tanya Horner of Minneapolis; and a son, Brent Dolly and special friend, Natalie of New Ulm and their children, Sierra and Austin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat Hood of New Ulm, Kathy and Delmar Konakowitz of Worthington, Theresa and Joe Hillesheim of Kenyon, Carla Eckstrand of New Ulm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Greg Horner of Minneapolis, Paul and Sharon Horner of Long Prairie, Gerry and Patty Horner of New Ulm, Jim and Kathy Horner of Stacy, Karl and Cindy Horner of New Ulm, Tim and Dee Horner of Sleepy Eye; and very special friend, Roger Miklas of Las Vegas, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by two nephews, Douglas Horner, and Seth Poncin-Horner in infancy.
Edward was born on December 9, 1941, in New Ulm to Edward and Helen (Plautz) Horner. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1959. He enlisted in the Army on January 15, 1960 serving until 1963.
Edward H. Horner Jr., Director-Choreographer started his theatrical career at the age of 11. He was a senior director with J.H. Cargill Productions Organization, Inc. of New York, NY. He studied at the Ballet Theater School in New York, the James Caisse School of Dance in Massachusetts and the McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis.
While serving in the U. S. Army, Mr. Horner participated in more than 75 musicals, revues and variety shows for the First Army Entertainment Team in addition to being assigned to a Strategic Air Command Unit that went to Vietnam.
He was associated with such celebrities as Johnny Carson, Dick Van Dyke, Dale Robertson, Chris Schenkel from ABC sports, Rosalind Russell, Merv Griffin, Ned Beatty, Jack Warden, Mel Tillis, Roy Clark, Charlie Pride, Crystal Gayle, Tom T. Hall and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to name a few.
He played the second lead in "West Side Story," for Summer Stock, and has appeared on television He directed and choreographed some of the largest outdoor historical pageants throughout the country including "Westward to Wichita" with a cast of 900 for the city of Beaumont, Texas and "Once Upon a Green" for Waterbury, Connecticut's Tercentenary celebration with a cast of 1,074!!
He directed and choreographed musicals and revues in 47 states and Canada. He also worked as a Production Manager at Heritagefest. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post 132 in New Ulm. He was a very loving dad and brother and will be dearly missed.
