Robert “Bob” G. Bradford, Sr.
Services were held last week for Robert “Bob” G. Bradford, Sr. The Proctor High School graduate and long time resident died Thurs., Feb. 28, 2002 in Lakeshore Lutheran Home. He was 84.
Bob was born in Duluth to Charles and Frances (Merikel) Bradford. He graduated from St. John’s University and served in the Army during WW II. Bob was a charter member and past president of the Kiwanis Gitche Gumee Club. Bob loved boating and was a member of the Power Squadron and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Bob retired in 1979 as manager of real estate for the DM&IR. Bob was a volunteer driver delivering meals to seniors. He was awarded the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award by Governor Rudy Perpich in 1990. On June 21, 1957, Bob married Maxine Peterson in Duluth.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a daughter Kathy in 1961.
Surviving are his wife Maxine, sons Randy (Linda) of Duluth, Robert Jr. of Inver Grove Heights, Rick of Minneapolis, and Lynn of Proctor, daughters Molly of Saginaw, Julie (John) Dewine of Washington, D.C., and Marilee Driver of New Hope, Minn., 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Military honors were accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Robert G. Morris
Services were held last week for Robert G. Morris. He died unexpectedly in his Proctor home Mon., Feb. 25 at the age of 72.
He was born in Duluth in 1929. He was a 1947 Denfeld High School graduate. He worked at the 148th Air National Guard as a technician and retired in 1987. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He married Fern Stenzel in Duluth on Oct. 29, 1949.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Fern, daughters Kathleen (Steven) Johnson of Duluth, Susan (Peter) Paron of Apple Valley, Minn., Linda (Richard) Petersen of Webster, Wisc., a son Mark (Connie) of Proctor, grandchildren Sarah, Emily, Kristina, Nicole, A.J., Alyssa, Brian, Cody and Amanda, two great-grandsons, brothers Laurence (Jackie), Gordon (Donna), Kenneth (Connie), a sister-in-law Jackie, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Park.
Gilbert W. Thorberg
Lifelong Midway Township resident and 1936 Proctor graduate Gilbert W. Thorberg died Mon., Mar. 11, 2002 in a Duluth hospital. He was 83.
He was born on Nov. 7, 1918 in Duluth to Adolph and Alma (Bloomgren) Thorberg. He had been an employee of Diamond Tool and Horseshoe Company for 34 years, retiring in 1980. He was a retired member of Diamond Tool Horseshoe Co. AFL-CIO Local Union No. 18650. Gilbert had cared for his family farm from youth until the time of his death. He was an accomplished machinist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Keith in 1990, a sister, Alice Olson in 1996 and a brother Raymond Thorberg in 1987.
Survivors include his daughter Patricia (Dennis) Nettleton of Duluth, sons Kenneth of Duluth and Daniel of Maple Grove, Minn., three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 until the 2 p.m. service today (Thurs.) in Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W.
Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Doris L. Burton
Doris L. Burton, who grew up in Midway, died Fri., Mar. 8, 2002 in her Grand Rapids home. She was 80.
Doris was born in Grand Rapids to Albert and Carrie Ranger. She graduated from Greenway High School in 1940. During WW II, she was a riveter for Boeing Aircraft in Washington. Upon returning to Grand Rapids, she worked at Kremers Ben Franklin and Itasca Creamery. Doris married Robert A. Burton in 1958. She worked in the Recorders office for many years and was elected Itasca County Recorder in 1975. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Terrolee “Terri” (Brad) DeMenge of McGregor, grandson Richard Jacob DeMenge, sister Alyce (Clayton) Schrupp of Grand Rapids, sister-in-law Louise Tobie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Itasca Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
Frank “Poncho” Talarico
Services were held yesterday for Frank “Poncho” Talarico. He died unexpectedly Sun., Mar. 24, 2002 in a Duluth hospital. He was 52.
He was born in Duluth, grew up in Proctor and was a 1967 graduate of Duluth Cathedral High School. He attended Duluth Vo Tech, graduating as a computer programmer. Frank married Amy Louise Draeger in 1969. He worked for several years in computer programming and was a 26-year employee of St. Louis County. He was a lifelong member of St. Rose Catholic Church where he was active as a lector and Eucharistic minister. Frank gave freely of his time and love. He coached boys youth basketball for St. Rose for 14 years and coached both softball and basketball for Denfeld area girls youth teams. He also served on the Duluth City & County Employees Credit Union supervisory board. An avid fisherman, Frank never missed opening day. He enjoyed making stained glass panels and playing card games with family and friends. His flower gardens, especially his marigolds and irises, were a great source of pride.
He is survived by his wife Amy, children Paul (Brenda), Todd, and Amy Jo (“A.J.”), his siblings John (Christy), Sam (Ruth), Deno (JeAnn), Teri (Gary) Eulenfeld, Jean (Tim) Nelson, Jim (Sue), Dan (Nancy) and Mike (Susan), his parents-in-law Chuck and Tess Draeger and his sister-in-law Jessi (Greg) Snyder. He was loved by many nieces, nephews and friends. His sly sense of humor and love for life will be greatly missed.
Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.
James J. Hoffman Sr.
Former Twig resident James J. Hoffman Sr. died Tues., Mar. 19, 2002 at the age of 64.
The Richfield/White Bear Lake resident was a former pressman at Duluth Herald (News Tribune), an Iron worker for LeJeune Steel Co., Mpls. for 15 years, and former member of Ford Mercury Club of America and charter member of Cushman Club of America.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Karen, daughters Victoria (Kevin) Hill of Saginaw, Sheryl Wallace of St. Paul, and Jeanne (Rick) Madlon of Woodbury, sons James, Jr. (Bonnie) of Mpls. and John (former wife Shelley) of Woodbury, 15 grandchildren and three great-granddaughters, and two brothers.
Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery, Mahtomedi.
Dorothy Marie Bailey
Raymond Diver of Proctor is saddened by the loss of his sister, Dorothy Marie Bailey. She died in her Cloquet home Thurs., Mar. 21, 2002 at the age of 59.
She was born in Cloquet. She was employed by Black Bear Casino in Inventory Control.
Dorothy is also survived by three sons, nine grandchildren, two other brothers, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Interment was in New Holy Family Cemetery.
Dulcie Jane Struck
Jane Polzin of Saginaw is mourning the death of her mother, Dulcie Jane Struck. The St. Louis River Rd. resident died Wed., Mar. 20, 2002 in Viewcrest Nursing Home. She was 76.
She was born in Chatham Township, Minn. Dulcie was raised in Buffalo, Minn. In 1946 she married Lawrence “Red” Struck in Waite Park, Minn. In 1954, the Struck family moved to Duluth where Dulcie was employed as a seamstress at Bud’s for over ten years.
Dulcie was an active member of St. Anthony’s parish before moving to Hermantown and joining St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, where she was very active in church functions including serving as a Eucharistic minister.
Dulcie is survived by her husband of 57 years Lawrence, another daughter, a son, a brother, a sister, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
George H. Molstad
George H. Molstad, a former Proctorite who taught in the high school here for 42 years, died Thurs., Mar. 28, 2002 in Crosby. He was 98.
George, an educator all his life, was born in Brainerd, Minn. in 1903. He graduated from St. Cloud State College and taught hundreds of students in mechanical arts and shop during his two years teaching in Anoka before coming to Proctor. He was also very active in politics and education in the community. After retiring in 1968, George and his wife Anna traveled the country and spent their retirement years between Yuma, Ariz. and their cabin in Nisswa, Minn. The outdoors was his love, and he was an avid hunter and fisherman. His stories of “the big one that got away” are well known by his friends and family.
George is survived by his wife of 71 years Anna, four children Lois Lewis of Whidbey Island, Wash., George “Leon” (Nancy) Molstad of Twig, John D. (Janet) Molstad of Garland, Texas, and Susan Molstad of Natchitoches, La. George was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their families, who were all very special to him. They include Ann Johns and daughter Courtney of Palmdale, Calif., Mark McCracken of San Francisco, Calif., Sherry (Ken) Atkinson and children David, John and Jennifer of Cottage Grove, Minn., Linda (Chris) Strom and children Steve and Derek Robinson and stepchildren Sara, Justin, Wesley and Kaylee Strom of Proctor, Gigi (Chris) Kollasch and children Ashley, Kassi and Jake of Fayetteville, Ga., Neil (Mindy) Molstad of Wheaton, Ill., and Emily (Steve) Shelton and daughter Claire of Tulsa, Okla. George also has a nephew William Molstad of Los Angeles, Calif., nieces Wilise Walker of Barrington, NH, Lisa Falenschek of Waseca, Minn. and brother-in-law Everett Nelson of Barrington, NH.
Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa.
Stephen Michael Huard
Maurice and Darlene Huard of Proctor are mourning the loss of their son Stephen Michael Huard. He died Fri., Mar. 29, 2002 at the age of 48.
The Wichita, Kan. resident was born in Virginia, Minn. in 1953. He was a Globe Engineering contract salesman.
Stephen was preceded in death by brothers Michael and Paul.
He is survived by his wife Constance, sons Eric, Joseph and Ryan, all at home, parents Maurice and Darlene of Proctor, brothers William of New Brighton, Minn., Daniel of Wichita, Kan., sisters Mary Boeslager of Proctor, Nancy Roberts of Miami, Fla., Julie Hussey of Duluth, 34 nephews and nieces, and six great-nephews and nieces.
Tristan Joseph Dlugosz
Tristan Joseph Dlugosz of Almac Drive in Proctor, died Sun., Apr. 7, 2002 in his home. He was 18.
Tristan was born Dec. 1, 1983 in Golden, Colo. He grew up in Las Vegas. He attended Marshall School his sophomore year and recently returned from Texas to finish his junior year at Proctor High School. He enjoyed playing the piano, the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping and sailing.
He is survived by his father Joseph J. of Proctor, his mother Lorna McDonald of Texas, grandparents Joseph and Marilynn Dlugosz of Lake Geneva, Wisc., and three step-brother and sisters.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Fri., Apr. 12, 2002 in Bell Brothers Chapel, 601 N. 56th Ave. W. Services and burial will be held in Lake Geneva, Wisc. at a later date. Memorials to the National Teen Suicide Prevention Program would be appreciated. Arrange-ments made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.
