Monroe Ralph "Bun" King
Oct. 5, 1924 - Jan. 16, 2001
Monroe Ralph "Bun" King, 76, a former area resident, died at his home in Horace, N. D., on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, from Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo.
Rev. Dr. Peter Schmidt officiated at the funeral, Rev. Steve Thompson was the soloist and the organist was Vicki Schmidt.
Interment was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo, with the West Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Dan VanErem, Trevor Wright, Kevin Schuldheisz, Kevin Koenig, Pat Aasheim, David Brunsvold Jr. and Justin Hoglund.
The honorary pallbearers included Toby Cossette, Chad Wegner, Greg Johnson, Danny Johnson, Terry Johnson, Duane Elofson, Harold Pross and Bruce Liljequist.
Monroe Ralph King was born at Frazee on Oct. 5, 1924, grew up and attended school in the Frazee area and married Mavis Swapp in Detroit Lakes on Jan. 4, 1948.
They lived in the Detroit Lakes area and then moved to Fargo, where he was employed as a mechanic by TWA Airlines and as a carpenter by the Jackson Co. They moved south of Fargo in the 1960s, where he farmed, and then to Horace in 1991.
Surviving are his wife - Mavis; a son - William (Mary) King, West Fargo; five daughters - Cindy (Barry) Wegner and Sandy VanErem, both Fargo; Deb Brunsvold, Horace, N. D., and Becky (Larry) Wright and April (Monte Walz) King, both West Fargo; four brothers - Earl, Frazee; Les, Montgomery, Ala.; John, North Carolina, and Bill, Kansas, and four sisters - June Ellegen and Joyce Cole, both Denver, Colo.; Shirley Nelson, Detroit Lakes, and Ginny Bitteman, Montana. There are 14 grandchildren and 12 great - grandchildren

Alice Walther
Feb. 13, 1934 - Jan. 13, 2001
Alice Walther, 66, a longtime employee of Multi - County Nursing in Detroit Lakes, died at her home on Saturday, Jan. 13.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Callaway.
Rev. James Wasmuth officiated at the funeral, Paul Donner was the organist and the soloist was Doris Schermerhorn.
Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Rickie Hartman, Randy Hartman, Dennis Warling, John Warling, Albin Warling and Berhard Warling.
The honorary pallbearers included Eugene Schouviller, George Scherzer, Eugene Kaiser, John Niemi, Gene Schermerhorn and Lyle Osten.
Alice Walther, daughter of Wilhelm C. and Myrtle Warling Walther, was born Feb. 13, 1934, in Callaway.
She grew up and attended country school at Callaway, graduated from Detroit Lakes High School (Class of 1952) and then earned a teaching degree at Concordia College in Moorhead in 1956.
Miss Walther, who never married, taught home economics in various communities in Minnesota and South Dakota and then worked many years as a nurse’s aide for Multi - County Nursing, as well as doing volunteer work for the Mahube Community Council in Detroit Lakes.
Active in the Mary Martha Circle of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she also belonged to the Jolly Matrons homemaker club, was active in the American Cancer Society and knitted mittens for the Detroit Lakes Damien Society.
Surviving are a brother - Wilhelm (Gretchen) Walther, Callaway, and two sisters - Vivian Hartman and Wiletta (Roy) Messerschmidt, both of Moorhead.
Her parents and a brother (Wayne) preceded Miss Walther in death.

Signe Tinjum
March 23, 1905 - Jan. 14, 2001
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, from Atlanta Lutheran Church, rural Ulen, for Signe Tinjum.
Mrs. Tinjum, 95, died Sunday, Jan. 14, at Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen.
Rev. Jill Steichen and Rev. James A. Hulberg will officiate at the funeral.
Interment will be at the church Cemetery, with the Anderson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be David Geiszler, Richard Leibbrand, Mike Tinjum, Steve Tinjum, Brian Tinjum, Kevin Tinjum, Perry Tinjum, Paul Tinjum, Keith Geiszler, Doug Leibbrand, David Leibbrand, Andy Magnuson, Ted Magnuson, Brad Johnson and Ross Johnson.
Signe Bergseng, daughter of Carl and Helene Bergseng, was born in Minneapolis on March 23, 1905.
Her mother died when she was five and she lived with various relatives until her father married Helga Nehring.
Signe learned to play the piano and organ, served as organist at Golgotha Lutheran Church, graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis and attended normal school for a year.
She taught at Rockford and then accepted a teaching job in Ulen at the age of 19. She taught in School District No. 48 east of Ulen
Signe Bergseng and Ted Tinjum were married in May, 1925, bought a home northeast of Ulen a year later and then lost the home in the depression of 1929. They farmed in different locations and then built a home in Walworth Township of Becker County. They later retired from farming and their son (Bruce) took over the farming operation.
A member of Atlanta Lutheran Church, Mrs. Tinjum served as organist for 50 years until retiring from those duties in 1994. She also was the choir director, Sunday School teacher and belonged to ladies aid and church circle.
Mrs. Tinjum taught piano and organ, served as a 4 - H leader and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of Norway. She also enjoyed making quilts.
Surviving are four sons - James Clayton (Marilyn), Moorhead; Bruce (Linda), Ulen; Rodger (Marilyn), Detroit Lakes, and Ted (Pat) Glendive, Mont.; four daughters - Helen (Loren) Geiszler, Moorhead; Eleanor (Wil) Leibbrand, Hastings; Virginia (Jerry) Johnson, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ingeborg (James) Magnuson, Canyon County, Calif.; three sisters - Helga McKinney, Edina; Ruth (Raleigh) Broman, Eden Prairie, and Arna Comer, Seattle, Wash., and a brother - Carl (JoAnn) Bergseng, Edina. There are 31 grandchildren, 51 great - grandchildren and one great - great - grandson.
Preceding Mrs. Tinjum in death were her husband (who died in 1969), her parents, a sister, two grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
Visitation: Friday, Jan. 19, 4 - 7 p.m., Anderson Funeral Home in Twin Valley, with prayer service at 7.

Lois E. Butler
March 16, 1930 - Jan. 13,2001
Lois E. Butler, 70, died Saturday, Jan. 13, at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16, from the West - Kjos Chapel in Detroit Lakes, with Rev. Tim Cook officiating.
The West - Kjos Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Lois Tripp, daughter of Glen and Agnes Byrnes Tripp, was born March 16, 1930, in Sioux Falls, S. D.
She grew up in Sioux Falls, graduated from Sioux Falls High School and married Robert Butler in Sioux Falls on June 4, 1948.
They lived in Sioux Falls until 1960, moved to Aloha, Ore., in September, 1960, and then to Barview, Ore., in 1975.
They lived at Barview until 1984 when they moved to Strawberry Lake near Ogema and then to Sunrise Senior Villa in Frazee in November, 1999.
Surviving are her husband - Robert, Frazee; a son - Dennis (Kris) Butler, Beaverton, Ore.; three daughters - Kathleen O’Brien, Astoria, Ore.; Carol (Karl) Hammon, Detroit Lakes, and Lori (Kyle) Ultsch, Portland, Ore., and a sister - Maxine (Gene) Danielson, Fremont, Calif. There are 12 grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Butler in death were her parents, two brothers (Dale and Merle) and her step - father (David Almont).

Larry Conklin
Jan. 31, 1940 - Jan. 14, 2001
Larry Conklin, 60, a longtime Park Rapids resident, died Sunday, Jan. 14, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, from the Jones - Pearson Chapel in Park Rapids.
Rev. Marty Geise will officiate at the funeral.
Interment will be at Linnell Cemetery near Ponsford, with the Jones - Pearson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallberarers will be Brian Conklin, Gary Soyring, Leo Erickson, Brian Lovejoy, Bob Sauter, Brandon Keezer, Jerry Eklund and Scott Johnson.
The honorary pallbearers will include Darell Conklin, Nancy Glatzmaier, Wesley Conklin, Connie Keezer and Ricky Conklin.
Larry L. Conklin, son of Clifford and Edna Lindgren Conklin, was born Jan. 31, 1940, near Ponsford, attended the Osage Public School, the Linnell Country School and the Shell Lake Country School.
As a young man, he worked as a logger with his father and - on April 3, 1967 - he and Linda Soyring were married in Park Rapids.
They made their home in the Park Rapids area and he attended the Detroit Lakes Area Vocational Technical Institute, where he studied audo body restoration.
Mr. Conklin moved to the Iron Range in 1974 and worked for the LTV Mining Co. for 17 years at Hoyt Lakes.
He enjoyed cars and playing bingo.
Surviving are his partner - Wilma, Park Rapids; three daughters - Lisa (Bob Sauter) Warren, Iron; Lynette (Brian Lovejoy) Skramstad, Virginia, and LeAnn Warren, Virginia; a son - Larry, Park Rapids; his parents - Clifford and Edna Conklin, Park Rapids; two sisters - Nancy (Bart) Glatzmaier, Park Rapids, and Connie Keezer, Coon Rapids, and three brothers - Darell (Judy) Conklin, International Falls, and Wesley (Debra) Conklin and Ricky Conklin, both Park Rapids. There are nine grandchildren.
His grandparents preceded him in death.
Visitation: Wednesday, Jan. 17, 5 - 8 p.m., Jones - Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids. Also one hour prior to funeral.

Pearl Lee
May 24, 1908 - Jan. 16, 2001
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, from First Lutheran Church in Audubon for Pearl Lee.
Mrs. Lee, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes, where she had been a resident since 1998.
Rev. James Kegel will officiate at the funeral, Janice Myhre will be the organist and the soloist will be Clint Felker.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Lake Park, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be Gordon Myhre, Ralph Matter, Kevin Lee, Joel Lee, Leon Kohler and Sanford Haugen.
Pearl Harrison, daughter of Charles and Lena Nugtren Harrison, was born May 24, 1908, in Spencer, Ia.
She moved with her family to Benson, then to Audubon and attended the District No. 21 School at rural Audubon.
She cared for the elderly in the Audubon area and was married to Oscar Lee at Flint, Mich., on April 22, 1929.
Following their marriage, they lived a few years at Flint before moving to rural Audubon, where they farmed until 1965. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1972.
Mrs. Lee had been a resident at Park Manor in Detroit Lakes until entering the nursing facility.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Audubon.
Surviving are a son - Owen (Dora) Lee, Moorhead, along with two grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Lee in death were her parents, her husband (who died in 1976), a grandson, two brothers and a sister.
Visitation: Friday, Jan. 19, 4 - 7 p.m., West - Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Also one hour prior to funeral at First Lutheran Church in Audubon.
