Eleanor Gravelle
March 27, 1926 - July 8, 2000
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, from the David - Donehower Chapel in Detroit Lakes for Eleanor Gravelle.
Mrs. Gravelle, 74, died Saturday, July 8, at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center.
Rev. Dan C. Abrahams will officiate at the funeral and vocal and instrumental music will be by Shelley Johnson.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Eleanor Olson, daughter of Oscar and Emily Olson, was born at Lake Park on March 27, 1926.
She was raised and attended school in the Lake Park/Audubon area and worked as a cook for a supper club near Audubon and at the Lindrud Dime Store in Detroit Lakes.
On Feb. 25, 1947, she and John Gravelle were married in Detroit Lakes.
Mrs. Gravelle also worked as a dental assistant for Dr. A. E. Sander in Detroit Lakes until forced to retire due to ill health.
She was well known for her picture colorizing and her art work.
Surviving are two sons - Donald (Vicki), Detroit Lakes, and Kerry, Oregon. There are four grandchildren and two great - grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a son (Craig) and two brothers (Ernest and Norman).
Visitation: One hour prior to funeral at David - Donehower Chapel.

Lillian A. Groth
March 18, 1945 - July 10, 2000
Lillian A. Groth, 55, died at her home in Wolf Lake on Monday, July 10.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 14, from Gethsemane Lutheran Church at Snellman.
Rev. Bernie Lutz and Rev. Carlton Kangas will officiate at the funeral.
Interment will be at the Wolf Lake Cemetery, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be Arnold Huwe, Eldon Kangas, Arlen Kangas, Howard Kangas, Daniel Bartel and Wayne Caughey.
Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Wolf Lake Rescue Squad, David Feldt and the Kangas family.
Lillian Annette Kangas, also known as Lil, the daughter of Leonard and Hilma Yoki Kangas, was born at Detroit Lakes on March 18, 1945.
She was raised at Wolf Lake, graduated from Frazee High School (Class of 1962) and later moved to Racine, Wis.
On Nov. 19, 1967, Lillian Kangas and Fred Groth were married in Racine. They moved to Wolf Lake in 1977.
Mrs. Groth spent 23 years in the employment of the Frazee School District, was a founding member of the Wolf Lake Rescue Squad, was a board member of the Wolf Lake Wolf Pack baseball team, was known as the "voice" of the ball team since she was the announcer at the games and also supervised the Wolf Lake Summer Recreation Program.
A member of Christ Lutheran Church at Wolf Lake, she taught Sunday School for many years.
Surviving are her husband - Fred, Wolf Lake; two daughters - Tracy and LeAnn, both Minneapolis; her mother - Hilma, Wolf Lake; two sisters - Mary Bartel, Wolf Lake, and Dagne Kangas, Elk River, and nine brothers - John (Nancy), White Bear Lake; Ivan (Kathy), Ramsey; Irving and Merlin (Cindy), both Princeton; Steve, Minneapolis; Carlton (Jane), Augusta, Wis.; Arlen (Yvonne), Detroit Lakes); Eldon (Michelle), Baxter, and Howard (Terri), Perham.
Visitation: Thursday, July 13, David - Donehower Chapel, 4 - 7 p.m. Also one hour prior to funeral on Friday at Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

Maxine J. Edenstrom
Aug. 19, 1914 - July 11, 2000
Maxine J. Edenstrom, 85, died Tuesday, July 11, at Emmanuel Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since 1996.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, from the Emmanuel Chapel, with Vicki Marthaler, the Emmanuel lay chaplain, officiating.
Interment will be at Eagle Cemetery in Christine, N. D., with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be Ronald Moitzfield, Donald Moitzfield, Donald Moitzfield Jr., Carl Moitzfield and Douglas Johnson.
Maxine Moitzfield, daughter of Otto and Eva Nelson Moitzfield, was born Aug. 19, 1914, in Iowa County, Ia.
She grew up and attended school in Iowa County and married Milton Aiken in 1932 in Iowa..
Since her husband was serving in the military, they lived at various places over the years.
On March 17, 1966, she and Morris Edenstrom were married in Denver, Colo. They lived in Colorado until moving to Detroit Lakes in 1995.
Surviving are five daughters - Hazel Moss, El Paso, Tex.; Marilyn (Lawrence) Rutherford, Battle Creek, Mich.; Dolores (Paul) Carbone, Franklin, Mass.; Charlene (Nobile) Bortolussi, Augusta, Mich., and Sharon (Douglas) Johnson, Rochert, and three brothers - Carl (Helen) Moitzfield and Ronald (Mildred) Moitzfield, both Des Moines, Ia., and Donald (Bev) Moitzfield, Fox Lake, Ill. There are 18 grandchildren and 20 great - grandchildren.
Mrs. Edenstrom was preceded in death by her first husband (who died in 1977), her second husband (who died April 9, 1997), her parents, a sister (Frances Core), a granddaughter and a great - granddaughter.
Visitation: Saturday, July 15, one hour prior to funeral at Emmanuel Nursing Home.

Gerald Garvey
There will be a graveside committal service at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes for Gerald Garvey.
Mr. Garvey, 65, a resident of Princeton, N. J., died Sunday, April 9, at the Princeton Medical Center. He was the husband of the former Lou Ann Benshoof of Detroit Lakes.
The David - Donehower Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Born in Chicago in 1935, Mr. Garvey attended the University of Notre Dame for two years, earned a bachelor’s degree in 1959 at the U. S. Air Force (USAF) Academy and served as an officer in the USAF until discharged as a captain in 1969. He studied at the Columbia University Russian Language Institute and received a doctorate from Princeton University in 1962.
A political science instructor at the USAF Academy from 1962 - 64, he joined the Princeton faculty in 1968 as an associate professor and became a professor in 1972.
Prior to his appointment at Princeton, he served in a variety of government positions, including defense policy analyst, office of the vice - chief of staff for the U. S. Air Force (1964), executive director of the President’s Cabinet Task Force on U. S. Indian Policy (1968) and director of planning and special projects for the U. S. Federal Power Commission (1966 - 68).
Mr. Garvey was a frequent consultant to the federal government and most recently was a consultant to the director at the Air Policy Office of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (1989 - 90).
At Princeton, he taught American Democracy, American Bureaucracy and Public Administration, the Politics of Corporate Governance and other courses in American constitutional interpretation and political thought.
Mr. Garvey was co - master of Princeton Inn College (now Forbes College) from 1977 - 80 and was master of Stevenson Hall from 1970 - 74.He served on the University Research Board from 1970 - 74 and participated in the Woodrow Wilson School summer institutes for federal officials in 1991 and in 1992.
He was presented the Stanley Kelley Teaching Award, given by the Department of Politics, for distinguished teaching in 1999.
During the early 1950’s and while living in Chicago, he was an NBC actor in commercials, live dramas and a science program known as "Mr. Wizard."
Surviving are his wife - Lou Ann (his co - master at Princeton Inn College); three sons - Edward, St. Paul; Gregory, Rochester, N. Y., and Scott, Portland, Ore., and a daughter - Sarah, San Francisco, Calif.
Memorials: Preferred to Cancer Institute of New Jersey or the Princeton Medical Center.

Norbert B. “Norb” Inderrieden
Aug. 26, 1919 - Aug. 25, 2000
Norbert B. “Norb” Inderrieden, 80, a longtime Detroit Lakes resident, died at his home on Friday, Aug. 25.
The funeral was at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, from Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. Jerry Rogers and Fr. Joe DeCrans officiating.
Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Ryan Roforth, Travis Jager, David Unrau, Trent Leshovsky, Kyle Leshovsky, Matt Riewer, Curt DeGroat and Bob Bjorge.
The honorary pallbearers included Nathan Matjka, Lanette Inderrieden, Gary Challen, Roger Sanders, Charles Jager, Richard Roforth, Lawrence Unrau, Jim Clarey, Kirby Inderrieden, Jimmy Clarey, Ted Unrau, Nicole Faulds and Tony Faulds.
Military rites were conferred by Jess - Omundson Post No. 1676, the Detroit Lakes unit of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Norbert Bernard Inderrieden, son of Bernard and Marie Mehr Inderrieden, was born at Ogema on Aug. 26, 1919.
He attended school at Ogema and served with the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Upon receiving his discharge from the armed forces, Mr. Inderrieden worked at the Studebaker Garage in Detroit Lakes and then was with the Minnesota Department of Conservation (now the Department of Natural Resources) until retiring in 1984.
Norbert Inderrieden and Georgia Burgess were married at Detroit Lakes on Dec. 22, 1949.
Mr. Inderrieden was a member of John Bridges Post No. 15, the Detroit Lakes American Legion chapter, and also was a member and once served as commander of Jess - Omundson Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
Surviving are six daughters - Vivian (Gary) Challen, Tampa, Fla.; Noreen (Roger) Sanders and Rose (Richard) Roforth, both Frazee; Georgeen (Charles) Jager, Rochert; Amy (Lawrence) Unrau, Winnipeg, Man., Canada, and Jane (Jim) Clarey, Detroit Lakes; a brother - Ray (Fran), Idaho, and three sisters - Lynn Johnson, Florida, and Ella “Dolly” Bloom and Caroline Ressler, both Minneapolis. There are 27 grandchildren and 10 great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Inderrieden in death were his wife (who died in 1990), a son (Bernard “Butch”) and several brothers and sisters.

Mehrdad Samimi.
Dec. 10, 1956 - Aug. 24, 2000
Services were at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 28, at the Sunnyside Nursing Home east of Lake Park for Mehrdad Samimi.
Mr. Mamimi, 43, drowned in Boyer Lake near Lake Park on Thursday, Aug. 24.
Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mehrdad Samimi, son of Yadullah and Moazum Arabi Samimi, was born Dec. 10, 1956, in Tehran, Iran.
He grew up and graduated from high school in Tehran and then moved to the United States.
Mr. Samimi earned a master’s degree in meteorolgy at Iowa State University in Ames and, while there, was a member of the long distance marathon team.
He lived in Iowa until moving to Fargo in 1995 and had been a resident at the Sunnyside Nursing Home since 1997.
Mr. Samimi enjoyed running, Star Wars and the Beatles.
Surviving are his mother - Moazam Arabi, Tehran, Iran; a sister - Minoo Samimi, Tehran, and a brother - Dr. Mehran (Janice) Samimi, Winnipeg, Man., Canada. There is one niece.
Preceding him in death was his father.
