Anna S. Bodas, 95, SERVICES: Memorial service 3:30 p.m. today at the Sand Lake Chapel in Britt.

Anna S. Bodas, 95, of Britt died Saturday, June 1, 2002, in her home.

She was born Sept. 18, 1906, to Charles and Anna (Kortes) Suo in Virginia. She lived in Chicago for many years before moving to Floodwood, where she taught first grade as Mrs. Nichols. She married Walfred Bodas in 1985 and moved to Britt. She was beloved “Aunt Anna’’ to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Emil; and sisters, Elsie Orr and Teckla Shaffer.

Deborah Jo Sterle
Deborah Jo Sterle, 44, SERVICES: Memorial services will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. The Rev. Peter Muhich will be officiating. Inurnment will be in the Chisholm Cemetery.

Deborah Jo Sterle, 44, of Chisholm, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at the University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing following her struggle with cancer. Debbie was born July 4, 1957, in St. Paul to Fred and Donna (Stish) Sterle. She was a lifelong resident of Chisholm, and graduated with the Class of 1975, and later from Hibbing Technical College.

In the Miss Chisholm Pageant of 1974, she received the title of Miss Congeniality. Debbie was self-employed as a seamstress and worked part-time for the Chisholm School District. She was employed by Johnson Floral and Bridal from 1992 to September 2001. She then worked for Jo-Ann Fabrics, Hibbing and HRA of Chisholm. Debbie was a darling girl who loved pretty things.

She is survived by her son, Bryan Sterle; parents, Fred and Donna Sterle; sister, Dyanne (Ed) Howden; brothers, David (Lynn) Sterle and Fred (Kathy) Sterle; nieces, Amanda and Briana; and nephews, Daniel and Brenton.

Daisy M. Lischalk
Daisy M. Lischalk, 89, SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland, Wis., with the Rev. Vernon Olmer, O.F.M., as celebrant. Interment will take place in Saint Agnes Cemetery in Ashland. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the Mountain Funeral Home in Ashland. The Mountain Funeral Home in Ashland and Mellen, Wis., is assisting the family with arrangements.

Daisy M. Lischalk, 89, of Ashland, Wis., passed away Sunday, June 9, 2002, at her residence after a short courageous battle with cancer, with her loving family by her side.

She was born March 30, 1913, in Ashland the daughter of Alfred J. and Lydia A. (Gunschevich) Kull. She was a lifelong resident of Ashland and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, now Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Ashland. Her father, A.J., owned and operated Purity Creamery in Ashland and Daisy worked there for a number of years. She also worked in her father’s store, Kull’s Variety and Music Store. Later she clerked at McCrory’s Store in Ashland for over 12 years, retiring in 1978. For many years, she was very active in Girl and Boy Scouts. She was a member of the Ashland Hiking Club, a past member of the K.C. Auxiliary. She attended Saint Agnes grade school and graduated from Ashland High School in 1931.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Fredericks of Drummond, Andrea (Larry) Kasper of Ashland and Bonnie (David) Pocernich of Ashland; one son, Tony (Renate) Lischalk of Eveleth; seven grandchildren; nine grandchildren; one brother, Jack (Lorraine) Kull of Inverness, Ill. one sister-in-law, Jean Kull of Ashland; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew on Sept. 21, 1990; three sisters, Violet, Rose and Lily; one brother, Cleon; one granddaughter, Tracy Kasper; and one son-in-law, Frank Fredericks.

Marilyn J. Patterson
Marilyn J. Patterson, 78, SERVICES: Visitation will be today from 5-7 p.m., and will continue on Wednesday from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service, all at the Range Funeral Home in Hoyt Lakes. The Rev. Cynthia Gray will officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery at Tower.

Marilyn J. Patterson, 78, of Hoyt Lakes, died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at her home.

She was born on Feb. 29, 1924, to William and Vienna (Blomberg) Jackson in Soudan. She grew up in Tower and graduated from Tower High School. She attended LPN and RN classes in Hibbing. She worked as an RN for over 20 years. She retired in the mid 1990s and returned to Minnesota.

Survivors include a son, Charles “Bill” Patterson; two daughters, Vienna (Paul) Pozniak and Robin Halmet; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Byron (Susie) Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, son Russell and three brothers, Bobby, Billy and Dennis Jackson.

Carl E. Thompson
Carl E. Thompson, 52, SERVICES: Memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday in the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing, with the Rev. Mark Palmer officiating. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Carl E. Thompson, 52, of Hibbing died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in Togo.

He was born in Virginia on July 28, 1950, to Lawrence and Lida (Carlson) Thompson and lived in the Iron Junction area. He had made his home in Hibbing for the past 16 years. Carl retired from National Steel in 2001 after 32 years of service as a welder and for the last 10 years as a crane operator. He loved fishing and all kinds of hunting. Carl liked to ride the four-wheeler and enjoyed the outdoors, especially near Togo. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Hibbing.

He is survived by his wife, Pam; daughter and best buddy, Krissy, at home; parents, Lawrence and Lida Thompson of Iron Junction; two brothers, Chuck (Netta) Thompson of Chisholm and Mark (Laura) Thompson of Eveleth; his sidekick, Maggie; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Merlin Thompson.

John Koski
John Koski, 34, SERVICES: Visitation will be held on Friday from noon until the 2 p.m. mass of Christian burial in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Ely. Burial will follow in the Ely Cemetery. John Koski, 34, a lifelong resident of Ely, died on Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in his home.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1968, in Ely, the son of Harold and Pat (Sayovitz) Koski. He was a very active swimmer in the Special Olympics, going on many trips and competitions, and also participated in track and bowling. He was awarded five gold, five silver and 10 bronze medals at the state level. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, and was a participant in the World Youth Day in Denver, Colo., where he saw the Pope. He had a deep respect for his country and its flag. He always sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,’’ he knew the Pledge of Allegiance and his cap was always over his heart when the flag passed by. His life was busy with basketball and football games, swim meets, concerts, eating out, and learning and speaking Slovenian. He took much pride in his job as a custodian at the school, especially keeping the grounds clean. He was also a collector of caps and knew where each one came from.

Survivors include his parents, Harold and Pat Koski of Ely; a brother, Michael (Judy) Koski of Golden Valley; a sister, Sally (Tom) Fauchald of Bemidji; materal grandmother, Julia “Lil” Sayovitz; nieces and nephews, Phil, and Erin and Paul Koski; aunts and uncles, Howard (Geraldine) Koski of Ely, Don Koski of Bemidji, and John (Nancy) Sayovitz of Marietta, Ga.; numerous cousins; and a host of friends.

Iver R. Lerohl
Iver R. Lerohl, 87, SERVICES: Visitation will be on Wednesday from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Virginia. The Rev. Margaret Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Range Funeral Home in Virginia.

Iver R. Lerohl, 87, of Virginia, died on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at the Virginia Regional Medical Center.

He was born on Jan. 3, 1915, to John and Anna (Lalim) Lerohl in Bovey. He attended Bovey Grade School, Greenway High School, Itasca Junior College, and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis undergraduate and graduate schools, majoring in organic chemistry and microbiology. He was the first Eagle Scout in his hometown and was active in scouting for 40 years. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Wivell on Dec. 20, 1941, in Coleraine. He worked for the U.S. Steel Corp. for 37 years as a chemical analyst, chief chemist and superintendent of quality control and ore movement, retiring in 1972. He assisted in iron ore and taconite developments in Minnesota, Alaska, Canada, Africa, Sweden, South America, and Asia from 1937 to 1972. He was involved in Masonic Orders in Coleraine, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Eveleth, Virginia and Duluth, and was received into the Knights York Cross of Honor. He was a member of AAD Temple and its Shrine Marching Patrol, Virginia Elks Lodge 1003, Old Guard of Mesaba, the Haarfager Lodge 40 Sons of Norway, the U of M Alumni Association, and volunteered for the Red Cross, among others. Professionally, he served for over 50 years as an officer and on the board of directors of sub sections of the American Chemical Society since 1938, the Engineers Club of Northern Minnesota since 1938, the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers 1945, the US Steel National Chemists Committee from 1955 until 1972, and helped to formulate and administer in each organization. He served on the advisory panel of the Engineering and Mining Journal.

Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Kjos of Eagan, Deborah (Eugene) Marah of Denver, and Phyllis (Kelly) Wechsler of Apple Valley; a son, Robert Lerohl of Fairfax, Va.; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. John K. Lerohl of Alexandria, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Charlotte in 2001, and two brothers, Chris and Arthur, both in 1989.

Frederick 'Babe' Lind
Frederick 'Babe' Lind, 85, SERVICES: Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home in Virginia. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 4:30 until the 5:30 p.m. funeral services at Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church in Virginia. The Rev. Nathan Sager will officiate. Frederick “Babe” Lind, 85, of Virginia, died on Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, after a short stay at the Virginia Convalescent Center.

He was born on March 8, 1917, in Virginia, the son of Frederick B. and Hildur (Larson) Lind and was a lifelong resident of Virginia. He was a graduate of Virginia High School, class of 1937, and was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He married Irene Cebelinski on Nov. 27, 1944. He was a certified dental technician and co-owned Lind Dental Laboratory. He was a member of Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he often served as an usher, was secretary-treasurer of the 10 a.m. coffee club at the Royal Cafe, a charter member of the Virginia-Lenont Curling Club, a member of the Pratt-Volden-Mickelson-Anderson American Legion Post 239 of Virginia and Crellin-Tini Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1113 of Virginia, and was a stockholder in Lookout Mountain ski facility.

Survivors include three sons, Fred Lind Jr. of Lake Vermilion-Tower, Tim (Ellen) Lind of Lake Vermilion-Tower and Jeff Lind of Virginia; brother, Herbert “Hubba” (Margaret) Lind of Virginia; grandchildren, Chris (Andi) Ringsred, Courtney (Ryan) Aker, Craig Lind, Kevin Lind, Mindy Lind and Jason Lind; great-grandchildren Kaitlin and Cori; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Irene in 1988.

Josephine Taulelle
Josephine Taulelle, 80, SERVICES: Visitation will begin today from 6-8 p.m. at Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel in Chisholm. Inurnment will be in Chisholm Cemetery at a later date.

Josephine Taulelle, 80, of Chisholm, died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at her residence.

She was born in Chisholm on July 16, 1922, to Joseph and Georgina (Gilbertson) Gruden. She had lived in Maryland and Washington, D.C. before moving back to Chisholm in 1957. She worked as a secretary in Washington, D.C. at the Pentagon and the Walter Reed Army Hospital, various Iron Range mining companies, and the Hibbing Hospital. She enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, board games, driving her car, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Richard (Rita) Taulelle of Fridley, Minn., Doug (Frances) Taulelle of Champlin, Minn., and Karen Taulelle of St. Paul; and three grandchildren, Felicia Taulelle, Amanda Taulelle, and Nick Taulelle.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edward Gruden.

Pauline J. Grams
Pauline J. Grams, 98, SERVICES: Memorial Mass 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm, with the Rev. Jon Wild as celebrant. Visitation one hour prior to service. Inurnment will follow in Chisholm Cemetery. Arrangements by Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Chisholm.

Pauline J. Grams, 98, of Chisholm died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, in Heritage Manor Health Care Center in Chisholm.

She was born March 31, 1904, in Chisholm to George and Leopoldina (Krasavec) Zevnick. She grew up in Chisholm and lived in Milwaukee, Wis., from 1922 until returning to Chisholm upon her retirement. She worked as an assemby line worker for the former Goider, Peske & Frye Manufacturing Co. of Milwaukee for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chisholm.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward W., on Nov. 28, 1950; three brothers, Carl, John and Rudy Zevnick; and two sisters, Freida Fitzgerald and Mary Maki.

Cecelia “Celie” Scipioni
Cecelia “Celie” Scipioni, 77, SERVICES: Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Hibbing. The Rev. Charles Flynn will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today in the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing. The Rev. Peter Muhich will recite the parish wake prayers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Joe Cerar, Brian Cerar, Jeffrey Cerar, Dennis Elj, Steve Raukar and Pat Clemens. Funeral arrangements are with the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.

Cecelia “Celie” Scipioni, 77, of Hibbing, died peacefully at her home according to her wishes on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, victorious over cancer and its complications.

She was born in Hibbing on Oct. 15, 1924, to Charles and Mildred (Sullivan) Coss. She married Londo Scipioni on March 21, 1944, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing. She retired from US West Telephone Company. She was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, the Telephone Pioneers, the Council of Catholic Women, and St. Raphael’s Circle.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Londo; two daughters, JoAnn (Patrick) Roche of Virginia and Susan Scipioni of St. Joseph, Minn.; two sons, Lonnie of Hibbing and Michael (Cindy) of Coon Rapids, Minn.; two sisters, Muriel Kirsling and Mildred (Jack) Clemens, both of Hibbing; a brother, Charles (Augusta) Coss, of Racine, Wis.; four grandchildren, Joe (Rebecca) Cerar, Brian (Merideth) Cerar, Jeffrey (Pam) Cerar and Gina Scipioni; two great-grandchildren, Frank and Mark Cerar; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, William and James Coss.

Melvin A. Ek
Melvin A. Ek, 81, SERVICES: Funeral 1 p.m. Friday at United in Christ Lutheran Church in Eveleth, with the Rev. Eric Lemonholm officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Eveleth Cemetery. Arrangements by Cron-Sheehy Funeral Home in Eveleth. Memorials may be directed to the United in Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund or to SMDC East Range Hospice.

Melvin A. Ek, 81, of Eveleth died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at the Arrowhead Senior Living Community in Eveleth.

He was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Leonidas to John and Hulda (Hoaglund) Ek. He was a 37-year employee for U.S. Steel, having worked as a shovel operator and having retired as a millwright. He was a member of United in Christ Lutheran Church and Mesabi Range Post 1172 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Eveleth.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; children, John (Ann) Ek and Barbara (Tom) Bayuk, both of Duluth; grandchildren, Katie, Nikolas, Alex, Kirsten and Brian; brothers, John (Edith) Ek of California, Reuben (AlJean) Ek of Parkville and Roy (Ruth) Ek of Florida; a sister, Harriet Roen, of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Carlson.

Lorraine Brassill
Lorraine M. Brassill, 81, of Two Harbors, died at Ecumen Scenic Shores Sunday, March 27, 2011, joining her husband on what would have been their wedding anniversary.

She was born Sept. 5, 1929, to Joseph and Margaret Cardinal in Two Harbors, where she was a lifelong resident.

Lorraine worked alongside her husband on the family farm and was a homemaker through the years. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, knitting, and puzzles.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in 1989; a son, Glen; infant twin daughters; grandsons, Craig and Matt; brothers, Joseph and Louis; and a sister Jeanette.

She is survived by her children, James (Jo) of Stacy, Ken (Debbie) of Two Harbors, Dennis (Betty) of Kempner, Texas, Carl of Minneapolis, David of Two Harbors, Linda (Craig) Anderson of Monroe, N.C., and Joan (Jesse) Hauglid of Circle Pines; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother, James Cardinal of Two Harbors; and a sister Marie Zaebst of Bucyrus, Ohio.

There was a funeral Wednesday at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors with burial at Lakeview Cemetery.
