Howard L. Sitter

Howard L. Sitter, age 87, of Ortonville, died Saturday Aug. 8, 2009 at the Ortonville Hospital.

Funeral service for Howard Sitter will be held today at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug.11, 2009 at First United Methodist Church of Ortonville, with Pastor Darrell Boe officiating. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery.

Howard L. Sitter the son of Cornelius and Cornelia (Kuyper) Sitter, was born Aug. 6, 1922 in Odessa Township and resided in Otrey Township. Howard was baptized and attended Odessa Evangelical United Church, and later, First United Methodist of Ortonville. He attended country school and lived on the same farm for 85 years.

Howard is survived by his wife, Hannah “Penny” of Ortonville; children, Leigh Sitter of Ortonville, Bonita Sitter and Fredericka Schilling of Blue Mounds, WI, Jay Sitter and Beth Marie Ward of Minneapolis; one grandchild, Paul Seefeld; sister, Arvilla Clark of Sauk Rapids; and an abundance of special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clyde and Earl; two sisters, Viola and Eloise.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the family for a subsequent donation to a charity.

Richard A. Odden

Richard A. Odden, age 61, of rural Otter Tail City died on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009 in his home.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Aug.6 at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was at the Eidskog Cemetery in Ortonville.

Richard “Dick” Alfred was born July 13, 1948 in Big Stone County, Ortonville, to parents Alfred and Delores (Roeder) Odden. Dick graduated from Chokio High School in 1966.

On Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, Dick died at the age of 61 years, in his home in rural Otter Tail City.

Survivors include his three children and eight grandchildren, Jim (Kristal) Odden and their children Allen, Bethany and Cecelia of Alexandria, Amanda Weston and her children Nicholas and Dasan of Perham, and David (Jeanne) Odden and their children Mercedeez, Jennifer and Adam of Pelican Rapids; four brothers, Gerald Odden, Al Odden, Joe (Naomi) Odden, and John (Barb) Odden; and five sisters, Rosie (Carl) Doehtry, Jeannie (Chuck) Damerow, Linda Lorenz, Lois Irwin, and Mary Berning.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chucky Odden; one sister, Jeanette Odden; and one nephew, Josh Odden.

Trevor Elbert

Mundwiler Funeral Home announces the death of Trevor Elbert, four year old son of Jason and Hope Elbert of Big Stone City. Trevor died July 30 at the Ortonville Hospital. Funeral services were Monday, August 3rd at 2 p.m. at Tabor United Methodist Church in Big Stone City.

Rev. Beth Conrad officiated and burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Honorary bearers were: Tyler Elbert, Jason and Karlia Dahl, and all his cousins. Casket bearers were: Cody Hendricks, James Elbert, Kellie Wohlleber, Annette Wiseman, Scott Hendricks, Crystal Bohn, and Scott Hall. The organist was Pat Kunz.

Trevor Scott Elbert was born Dec. 22, 2004, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Jason and Hope (Bohn) Elbert. He was fondly referred to as their “little man” and will be remembered for his infectious smile. Trevor enjoyed playing his first season of T-Ball and was excited to start hockey this winter. He made his family laugh with all his expressions, animations, pretend cooking, and dancing. He loved Spiderman and Sponge Bob. His brother, Tyler was his best friend and playmate.

Trevor Elbert is survived by his parents, Jason and Hope Elbert of Big Stone City, SD; one brother: Tyler; paternal grandparents: Janet and Eddie Elbert of Big Stone City, SD; maternal grandparents: Florence and Roger Raddatz of Big Stone City, SD and Harold Bohn of Twin Brooks, SD; paternal great grandparents: Edward and Judy Elbert of Willmar; aunts and uncles: James Elbert of Watertown, SD; Kellie Wohlleber of Milbank, SD; Annette Wiseman of Milbank, SD; Scott Hendricks of Estelline, SD; and Crystal Bohn of Billings, MT.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Brooke Nicole and his maternal great grandparents.

Mundwiler Funeral Home of Milbank was in charge of the arrangements for Trevor Elbert.

Gustaf A. Beck

Gustaf A. Beck, age 101, of Graceville, formerly of Clinton, died Sunday at the Grace Home in Graceville.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at New Life Community Baptist Church in Ortonville with Pastor Phillip Ostlund officiating. Burial was at Clinton City Cemetery.

Gustaf Alfonso Beck, the son of Henry and Augusta (Erickson) Beck, was born Feb. 6, 1908 in Taylor Township, Traverse County, southwest of Wheaton. He is survived by his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and their wives, Walter (Clara), Erick (Clara), Henry (Gladys); sisters and husbands, Florence (Amos) Jenson, Ethel (Foster) Docherty, and Annie Beck.

Laura Iverson

Laura Iverson, 57, Hitterdal, died on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Laura Ann Lackman was born on March 2, 1952, in Breckenridge, to Paul and Anna (Albin) Lackman. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Breckenridge High School. She attended Moorhead Technical College in Moorhead and then worked in Wahpeton, ND.

She married Joseph Ouradnik, Sr., and they moved to Big Stone City, SD. They later divorced. Laura moved to Milbank, SD, where she worked at the Trustworthy Hardware Distribution Center. Laura married Mark Iverson on June 9, 1995, in Milbank, SD, and they moved to rural Hitterdal. Her real passion in life was her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant, working at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, and also Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen. She retired due to health issues. Laura enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening, music, her cats, and was a proud member of a twelve step program. As an organ / tissue donor, Laura’s family would like to acknowledge that Laura continues to give the most precious gift anyone could give, the gifts to save the lives of others.

Laura is survived by her husband, Mark Iverson, Hitterdal; son Joseph (Heather) Ouradnik, Jr., LeMars, IA; daughter, Katherine (Troy) Peickert, Menomonie, WI; sister, Jane E. Lackman, Hitterdal; six grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Brady, Connor, Madison, and Taylor; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Anna Lackman; a sister, Eve O’Connor; and an infant baby sister.

Memorial Service was held Saturday, Jan. 9, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Lake Park.

Arvilla E. Clark

Memorial Services were Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home Chapel, Sauk Rapids, for Arvilla E. Clark,97, of Sauk Rapids, and formerly of Ortonville, who died Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Rev. Donald Wilke officiated and burial will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Big Stone City, SD. Arrangements were made by Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids.

Arvilla was born April 23, 1912, in Sioux County, IA to Corneilius and Corneilia (Kuyper) Sitter. She married Loren Clark on April 7, 1940, in Ortonville. Arvilla was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church in Big Stone City, SD.

Survivors include her husband, Loren of Sauk Rapids; son and daughter, John (Jean) Clark of Pequot Lakes and Suzanne (Vincent) Byrnes of Delton, MI; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Arvilla was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers and three sisters .

Memorials may be sent to Tabor United Methodist Church; PO Box 158; Big Stone City, SD 57216.

Nella Kvatum

Nella Kvatum, age 92, of Beardsley died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at the Ortonville Hospital.

Memorial service were held Jan. 9, 2010 at Holden Lutheran Church of Beardsley with Pastor Bev McNeil officiating.

Burial will be at Holden Cemetery at a later date.

Nella Malena Olsen Kvatum, was born in Minneapolis June 19, 1917 to Martin and Ida (Kriesel) Olsen. She attended school and graduated from Miller Vocational School in Minneapolis.

June 15, 1940, Nella was united in marriage to Robert Kvatum at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and resided there for two years. In 1942 they moved to Beardsley where they were engaged in farming. Nella helped Robert on the farm helping with the harvest, driving the grain to town.

Nella was a faithful member of Holden Lutheran Church and was involved with many activities; Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, Ladies Aid president, treasurer, and secretary of Holden Lutheran Cemetery Assn. On Sunday afternoons she enjoyed being a volunteer at the Clinton Good Samaritan Center for the church service, and visiting with many residents who were her friends. Her Confirmation memory verse was from Romans 5: 1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Nella loved to express her faith in song, and was soloist for many occasions at Holden Lutheran Church. She was also a long-time member of the Foster Mothers Extension Club where she enjoyed getting together with friends and neighbors.

She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and reading. She grew vegetables for canning and loved growing flowers. Nella always put others’ needs before her own; she would do anything for anyone. Her kind and gentle spirit will be dearly missed by family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Robert) Hornstein of Ortonville; son, Dennis (Joan) Kvatum of Beardsley; three grandchildren, Shelly (Scott) Blumhoefer of New Ulm, Steven (Tamie) Hornstein of Canby, Richard Kvatum of St. Joseph; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Hannah, and Isaac Blumhoefer; two sisters, Helen Murphy and Elaine Larrabee of Orange, CA; one nephew, three nieces and one grand niece of Orange, CA.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert.
