Ruby White
Ruby White, 91, of Westbrook died March 6, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook.
Services were held Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook with Rev. William Klavetter officiating.
Casketbearers were Tim Jackels, Matt Jackels, Chad Michelau, Cody White, Cole White, Jesse White and Lucas White.
Interment was at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Dovray.
Westbrook Funeral Home of Westbrook was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Ruby Mae Dumos was born July 3, 1910, to Olwar and Alma (Johnson) Dumos in Des Moines River Township. The oldest of eight children, Ruby worked on the family farm south of Dovray, helping with chores and attending to her younger siblings.
She attended school in Dovray and helped neighborhood families with housework and child care. Ruby also served as a Sunday School teacher at the Lutheran church in Dovray.
In her 20s, she worked as a waitress at the Dovray pool-hall and cafe.
In 1941, Ruby married Duward White, who was the bartender at the Dovray pool-hall and cafe. They lived in Dovray a shorttime, then moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wis., where Duward worked in the shipyards. They moved to Washington state for a few years where both worked at the Kaiser shipyards.
In 1945, they returned to Westbrook, buying a home on Ash Ave., where Ruby lived for more than 50 years. They also bought the Westbrook pool-hall, naming it “Dewey’s Inn” and running it until declining health forced Duward to retire.
Since 1945, Ruby worked at various jobs. She was employed by Ernie and Hannah’s Grocery Store, The Campbell Soup Co., and Westbrook Good Samaritan Center, first as an aid and then in the laundry department.
She retired in 1973. She has been a resident at Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook since 2000.
Ruby enjoyed flower gardening, painting — especially rosemalling, crocheting, making crafts and reading.
She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 50 years.
In addition to her husband, Duward who died in 1976, Ruby was preceded in death by four sisters, Mildred, Vivian, Shirley and Fern, and two brothers, Gates and Floyd.
Survivors include her brother, Glen “Cactus” Dumos.
Hilda Eichner
Hilda Eichner, 95, of Westbrook died March 7, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook.
Services were held Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook with Rev. William Klavetter officiating.
Special music was provided by Janet Mischke, organist; and “Joyful Sound”, vocalists.
Casketbearers were Kevin Eichner, Ryan Eichner, Reed Eichner, Jason Iverson, Tony Iverson and Sarah Iverson.
Interment was at Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook.

Hilda Margret Bruning was born July 10, 1906, to Henry and Sarah (Krack) Bruning in Cherokee County, Iowa.
In 1924, Hilda married George Eichner Jr. They farmed in Rosehill Township until 1944 when they moved to Westbrook where George was employed at Farmers Elevator Company.
Hilda was employed at various restaurants and later at Schmidt Memorial Hospital in Westbrook as a cook. While at the hospital, she became a nurses aid, caring for people, especially newborn infants in the nursery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1970; three brothers, Clifford, Merle and Willard Bruning; a son, Donald Eichner; and a daughter-in-law, Ann.
Survivors include her son, Darrell Eichner of Westbrook; and daughter-in-law, Helen Burns Eichner, also of Westbrook; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a brother, Floyd (Rita) Bruning; and brother-in-law Lauris Eichner of Westbrook.
Amy Benson
Amy Benson, 96, of Westbrook died March 10, 2002, at Westbrook Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook.
Interment will follow at Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., at Westbrook Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Friday for one hour prior to services at the church.
Amy Constance Nelsen was born Nov. 30, 1905, to Ned and Anna (Busk) Nelsen near Dovray. She attended country schools in the Dovray area, graduating from Westbrook High School. She also attended Normal Teachers Training in Fulda.
In 1930, Amy married Anton Benson at Trinity Lutheran parsonage.
Most recently, Amy entered Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook in 1998.
Amy was involved in a variety of activities. She participated in the Pinochle Club, Neighborly Club, Birthday Club, Ladies Aid, Dorcas Society and Bible circles.
She enjoyed gardening, writing poetry, playing scrabble and doing crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton; a granddaughter, Tammy Benson; and three sisters, Betty Ann, Irene Sturges and Vivian Schauer.
Survivors include her sons, Roger (Carolyn) Benson of Westbrook and Ronald (Eleanor) Benson of Buffalo; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Ethel Cohrs, Leslie Benson, Lloyd Benson, Vera Larson, all of Westbrook; Donald Benson of Alamo, Texas; Nina Franz of Plymouth; Ardys Dennis of Saltillo, Texas; and James Benson of St. Paul.
Florence Untiedt
Florence Untiedt, 90, of Jackson died May 28, 2002, at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
A memorial service was held Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson with Rev. Michael McCallum and Rev. Charles Reid officiating.
Interment will be at a later date at Sioux Valley Cemetery in Sioux Valley.

Florence Leola Lanning was born Feb. 5, 1912, to Willie Eben and Emma (Fowler) Lanning in North Superior Township of Dickinson County, Iowa. She grew up in Middletown Township in Jackson County, attended District 23 country school and graduted from Jackson High School in 1929.
Florence attended Normal Training School in Jackson then taught in rural schools in Petersberg, Lake Fremont and Middletown Townships.
In 1940, she married Arnold Untiedt in Estherville, Iowa. They farmed in Middletown Township until 1961 when they moved to Windom.
In 1981, they moved to their home on Loon Lake. Florence and Arnold also spent many winters in Mesa, Ariz.
Florence became a resident of Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake in 1999.
She was a member of Presbyterian churches in Windom and Jackson, where she was involved in Women’s Work and helped organize the Clothesline Project at First Presbyterian in Windom.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold Untiedt of rural Jackson; her son, Richard (Elaine) Untiedt of Hayfield; her daughter, Carol (James) Nolting of Tupelo, Miss.; four grandchildren; and three brothers, Ed Lanning and Bill Lanning, both of Jackson, and John Lanning of Estherville, Iowa.of Westbrook.
Arvil Peterson
Arvil Peterson, 86, of Northrop died May 31, 2002, at Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman.
Services were held Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop.
Interment was at Harrison Township Cemetery near Swea City, Iowa.

Arvil Newell Peterson was born April 24, 1916, to Andrew and Emma (Myhre) Peterson in Nordland Township of Lyon County. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota.
Arvil attended District 77 country school near Minneota before graduating from Minneota High School in 1936.
In 1940, he married Clarice Miller at Hope Lutheran Church.
Arvil farmed for several years with his brother, Willard, before farming on his own near Minneota, Tyler and Comfrey.
He managed grain elevators in West Central Minnesota before moving to Fairmont and working at Railway Motors.
In 1976, he married Alyce Larson in Lakota, Iowa. Two years later they moved to Northrop.
In retirement, Arvil worked for Larry Becker, Hodgman’s Construction and East Chain Fertilizer Plant.
In 1999, he entered Lutheran Retirement Home in Truman.
Arvil was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop.
He also enjoyed horses and together with his family was a member of saddle clubs throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Travis; a son-in-law, Charles Moody; and one sister, Iolene Jensen.
Survivors include his wife, Alyce Peterson of Armstrong, Iowa; three sons, Junior (Kay) Peterson of Mt. Lake, Wayne (Sharon) Peterson of Rochester; and Mark (Jan) Peterson of Windom; four daughters, Sharon Moody of Butterfield and Connie Lubben, Pam (Jan) Johnson and Vicki (Mike) Wiens, all of Windom; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-children, Janice Looft of Swea City, Iowa, and Oscar Johl of Mexico; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Willard (Helen) Peterson of Minneota..
Reuben Duerksen
Reuben Duerksen, 69, of Golden Valley, formerly of Delft, died May 31, 2002, in St. Louis Park.
Services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m., at Crystal Evangelical Free Church in New Hope with Rev. Donald Holsten officiating.
Special music will be provided by Sheila Wicklund, organist.
Casketbearers will be Jon Gross, Josh Gross, Jason Shanks, Doug Andress, Walley Andress and Mike Kelly.
Interment will be at Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope.
Albin Chapel of Minneapolis and Eden Prairie is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Reuben L. Duerksen was born May 2, 1933, in Delft. A U.S.
Army veteran, Reuben was a former employee of Midwest Printing Co., as well as Richfield and Robbinsdale Public Schools.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Eleanor Duerksen; a daughter, Andrea (Andrew) Olive; and a son, Daniel (Jennifer) Duerksen; four grandchildren; and five sisters.
Johanna Timmons
Johanna Timmons, 92, of Winona, formerly of Windom, died April 11, 2002, at Community Memorial Hospital in Winona.
Services were held April 18 at Central Lutheran Church in Winona with Rev. Michelle Rem officiating.
Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona.

Johanna Eidem was born Aug. 26, 1909, to John and Mary (Grotte) Eidem in Windom. She received her education in Windom schools and at Mankato State Summer School. She later taught in Cottonwood County.
In 1935, Johanna married John Timmons and five years later they moved to Winona.
She spent many of her years working as a sales clerk at Williams Book and Stationery.
Johanna was a member of Central Lutheran Church, where she served in many areas. She was also a member of the Retired
Educators and a charter member of Sons of Norway.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1969; five sisters, Martha, Petra, Hannah, Emma and Inga; and three brothers, Anton, Henry and Einar.
Survivors include her son, Robert (Carol) Timmons of Miami, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Winnifred Irwin of Waseca.
