Ronald W. Eli

Ronald W. Eli, age 63, a resident of rural Milaca, MN, died at his home March 25, 1998.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday, March 30, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Ramey, MN, with Reverend John Ramsbacher officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church on Monday. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.

Survivors include four brothers, Kenneth, Burnette, Oscar and Aldon; two sisters, Emma Jane and Maxine; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Sister Mary Angela (Clara) Karsnia

Sister Mary Angela (Clara) Karsnia, age 91, died on November 4, 1997 at the St. Francis Convent, Little Falls, MN.

Funeral services were at St. Francis Convent on November 7.

Sister Mary Angela (Clara) was born on March 9, 1906, near Frazee, MN. She was the second child born to the late Louis and Josephine (Wolkowski) Karsnia. She was accepted as a Franciscan Sister of Little Falls on August 12, 1927. She made first profession of vows, August 12, 1929, and final vows August 12, 1932. She celebrated 60 years as a Franciscan Sister in 1987. Sister Angela ministered as a cook and/or baker at St. Gabriel’s Hospital, Little Falls, 1929, and 1965-1978; St. Cloud Orphanage, St. Cloud, 1929-1940; St. Ansgar Hospital, Moorhead, 1940-1944; St. Francis Convent, Little Falls, 1944-1957; St. Cloud Children’s Home, St. Cloud, 1957-1959; Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Alexandria, 1959-1963; St. Mary’s Convent, Alexandria, 1963-1965. In 1978 she retired to St. Francis Convent, Little Falls, where she continued to fill her days with tatting, crocheting and embroidery work in the activities department as long as she was able.

Survivors include her brother, Walter of Detroit Lakes, MN and her Sisters: Eleanor Trowbridge, Detroit Lakes, MN, Vivian Kline and Florence Shaskey, Brooklyn Park, MN, Jean Scheidecker, Frazee, MN, Harriet Fryer, Elk River, MN and her Sisters in religious life.

Bernice Eva Perry

Bernice Eva Perry, age 73, a resident of Athens, WI, passed away November 4, 1997, at Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill, WI.

Bernice was born February 10, 1924, in Swanville, MN, to Winnie (Mortenson) and Ernest Axel. She was a graduate of St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Duluth, MN, and worked many years at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN. She had been a member of First English Lutheran Church, Little Falls, was the former State President of the Emergency Department Nurses Association and was instrumental in getting the Kidney Dialysis Department going at St. Gabriel’s Hospital. She retired from nursing on October 1, 1987. She enjoyed playing bingo, traveling, her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Ronald) Nunnally of Richmond, VA; sons, John (Jennifer) Perry of Athens, WI, Curtis (Ginger) Perry of Little Falls; and Duane Perry of West Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude (John) Moe of Missoula, MT, and Florence (Ray) Green of Little Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson.

James J. Thielen

James J. Thielen, age 49, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died November 5, 1997, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was held November 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Little Falls with Father Nick Landsberger officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Pierz, MN.

James Joseph Thielen was born on October 15, 1948, in Little Falls to Leo and Dorothy (Motschke) Thielen. He grew up in the Pierz area and graduated from Pierz Memorial High School with the Class of 1966. He worked for Hennepin Paper Co. delivering pulp wood for a number of years. He also helped his father farm on the family farm near Freedhem, MN. He was an exceptional mechanic for Thielen Transfer. He enjoyed the outdoors activities of making wood, farm work and God’s creation.

Survivors include his parents, Leo and Dorothy Thielen of Little Falls; sisters, Bernadette Tax and husband, John of Pierz, MN; Diane Deick and husband, Jack of Randall, Mn; Bonnie Karnowski and husband, Bob of Pierz; and, Linda Tatro and husband, Paul of Pierz and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Peter and Marie Thielen and Albert and Marty Motschke.

Pallbearers were his cousins, Ronnie Meyer, Kenneth Britz, Michael Leeb, Jeffrey Virnig, Kevin Motschke and DeWayne Motschke.

Lynn Dokkebakken

Lynn Vernon Dokkebakken, age 49, a resident of Willmar, MN, died November 10, 1997, at his home following an extended illness with a brain tumor.

Funeral services were held on November 14 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willmar with Rev. Joe Steinbeisser and Rev. Mark Wendland officiating. Interment was in the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Cemetery at Swift Falls. Military honors were provided by the American Legion and VFW Posts.

Lynn was born on May 2, 1948, in Benson, MN, the son of Ellen (Thone) and Vernon Dokke-bakken. He grew up in the rural Swift Falls community, was baptized and confirmed at the Swift Falls Lutheran Church and graduated from the Benson High School. For one year he attended the Willmar Community College. He served overseas with the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam Conflict. Following his discharge, he attended the Willmar Community College. For two years he was employed as the fertilizer manager for the Farmers Union Oil Company in Willmar. On July 29, 1978, in Little Falls, MN, he married Mary L. Rudek. He was the general manager of the Buhl Coop Supply in Idaho and, in December, 1980, the couple moved to Ortonville, MN, where he was the general manager of the Farmers Union Oil Company. In February of 1985, the two moved to Willmar where he became the general manager of the Farmers Union Oil Central Lakes Cooperative. Lynn was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Willmar Area Shrine Club, the Zuhrah Shrine Temple, an adult leader of Boy Scout Troop 227, a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Ridgewater College Foundation Board, the Noon Kiwanis Club, the Minne-sota Plant Food Association, the Minnesota Managers Association, the Western Transport Coop Association and various Cenex and agri-business activities.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; one son, Michael and two daughters, Amy and Cindy, at home; mother, Ellen Dokkebakken of Glenwood, MN; three brothers, Dean Dokkebakken of Swift Falls, Winty (and Diane) Dokkebakken of Fergus Falls and Bruce Dokkebakken and wife Chris of Big Lake, MN; two sisters, Barbara Loen and husband Arden of Swift Falls and Judy Bowman and husband Tom of Scottsdale, AZ; three aunts; several cousins and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; a nephew; grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Edward O’Rourke

Edward F. O’Rourke, age 83, a resident of St. Paul, MN, died November 8, 1997, the result of an automobile accident.

On November 11, following a Mass of Christian burial at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Paul, he was buried at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Miesville, MN.

Edward was a farmer and principal of Little Falls Public High School in the mid-1940s. He retired in 1977.

Arnold Forner

Arnold B. Forner, age 79, died October 20, 1997, at St. Cloud Hospital from cancer.

Funeral services were held October 25 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Holdingford, MN, with the Revs. Anthony Oelrich and Patrick Riley officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Arnold was born November 29, 1917, in St. Joseph to George J. and Mary E. (Hartig) Forner. He married Grace A. Pyka on November 10, 1945, in St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Holdingford. He was employed as a patrolman at Minneapolis Naval Air Base from 1945 to 1946, a sergeant for the South St. Paul Police Department from 1951 to 1956 and a lieutenant for the Minnesota State Department of Corrections from 1956 until he retired in 1976. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1944, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Holdingford; Holdingford American Legion and St. Joseph’s Society of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holdingford. He was a life member of St. Cloud VFW Post 428 and St. Cloud Disabled American Veterans Chapter 9. He and his wife had a summer home on the west side of Lake Beauty for over 20 years.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Donna Leyk of St. Cloud, MN, and Dyann Wells of Round Lake Park, IL; brother and sisters, Ralph of St. Paul, MN; Evelyn Philpsek of St. Cloud, Irene Pyka of Royalton, MN, and Geraldine Fenalson of St. Stephen, MN; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Louis, Clarence, Lloyd, Wilfred and Lawrence and sisters, Louise Rothstein and Marcella.

Dale Rogers

Dale Alan Rogers, age 47, a resident of Onamia, MN, died November 14, 1997, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Memorial services were held November 18 at the Onamia Elementary School with Rev. Donna Martinson officiating. Interment was in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Onamia.

Dale was born February 15, 1950, in Milaca, MN, to Charles Glenn and Mary Ann (Beerman) Rogers. The family resided in Onamia where Dale attended school, graduating from high school in 1968. He attended St. Cloud Vo Tech for two years and worked for Fingerhut in St. Cloud, MN, for two years. He was united in marriage to Betty Weinkauf at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Onamia on February 6, 1971. The couple resided in St. Cloud from 1971 to 1973 when they moved to Onamia. Here Dale worked as an electrician for Silker Electric and Leach Electric before going into business with his brother Bill in 1986. Dale was the president of the Lions Club in Onamia, a member of the United Methodist Church in Onamia, a member of the Tuesday evening Golf League and on the Brandts Icebreaker Bowling Team. He enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling, along with golf and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; daughters, Stacey and Sara of Onamia; two sisters, Barbara Gave of Onamia and Kathi Hopkins and husband Dennis of Onamia; three brothers, Henry and wife Kathie of Lakeville, MN, Gary and wife Susan of Sauk Rapids, MN, and Bill and wife Ila of Onamia; his mother, Mary Ann Rogers of Onamia and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the godfather to Shantell, Tracie and Travis.

He was preceded in death by his father and sister Patricia.
