Erma Gerads
Erma C. Gerads, age 90, a resident of Melrose, MN, died March 31, 1999, at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 5 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Burial followed in the parish cemetery.

Erma was born October 18, 1908, in Saint Rosa, MN, to John and Frances (Fischer) Bueckers. She was united in marriage to William Gerads on May 7, 1929, at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Saint Rosa. The couple farmed in the Saint Anthony, Albany, MN, Saint Rosa and Upsala, MN, areas until moving to Melrose in 1964. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. She was also a member of the Melrose Christian Mothers and the Melrose VFW Auxiliary. She loved to quilt, crochet and garden.

Survivors include 12 children, Clarence Gerads and wife Alvina of Melrose, Mildred Pohlmann and husband Ray of Gray Eagle, MN, Frances Van Heel and husband Alvin of Swanville, MN, Victor Gerads and wife Mary of Colorado Springs, CO, Louise Goebel and husband Alcuin of Freeport, MN, Christine Wuebkers and husband Clarence of Upsala, William “Bill” Gerads and wife Ursula of Tokyo, Japan, Roderick Gerads and wife Irene of Sartell, MN, Beatrice Massman and husband Celestine of New Munich, MN, Joan Brickweg and husband Jim of Opole, MN, Linda Wegleitner and husband David of Circle Pines, MN, and Betty Gerads of St. Cloud, MN; sisters, Frieda Gerads of Albany, Leona Kleifien and husband Rod of New Ulm, MN, Rogeria Mehr of Saint Anthony and Bernice Marthaler and husband Albert of Hewitt, MN; 66 grandchildren, 128 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, who died July 24, 1997; brothers and sisters, Margaret Bueckers, Adeline Adkins, Clemens Bueckers, Walburga Rakotz and LeRoy and Mortiz Bueckers; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Casketbearers were Kimberly Schleppenbach, Pamela Brickweg, Connie Tschida, Brenda Karbo, Karen Rudolph, Diane Schneider, Deb Scherping and Susan Carlson.

Cross bearer was Judy Waldvogel. Scripture bearer was Viola Fogel.

Delphine Hagstrom
Delphine Hagstrom, age 84, a resident of Upsala, MN, died April 1, 1999, at the Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls, MN.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 5 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala with Father Greg Mastey officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.

Delphine was born July 13, 1914, to Paul and Irene (Kieser) Heimerl in Winsted, MN. She attended Holy Trinity School in Winsted and Eden Valley High School. Delphine worked at Honeywell and Finishing Equipment Companies when she lived in Minneapolis, MN. When she moved to Upsala, she became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and a member of the Christian Mothers. She loved animals, playing the organ and knitting.

Survivors include her husband, Winton, of Upsala; son, Stephen Fink of Minneapolis; brother, Ramon Heimerl of Greeley, CO, and sister, Lee Draver of Superior, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Sidney “Sid” Fink and brother, Robert Heimerl.

Casketbearers were John Stafney, Leo Hartung, Paul Gerads, Marcellus Theisen, Linus Lehner and Lloyd Hagstrom.

Chris Piekowski
Chris A. Piekowski, age 83, a resident of Mounds View, MN, died March 28, 1999.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 30 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Brighton, MN. Interment was at the Fort Snelling Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Konen of Pierz, MN; daughter Jan; son John; four grandchildren; two brothers, John and Florian of Minneapolis, MN, one sister, Theresa Heigl of Pierz and many relatives from Flensburg, MN, and Sobieski, MN.

Henry Kedrowski
Henry Sylvester Kedrowski, age 69, a resident of rural Little Falls, MN, died April 5, 1999, at the V.A. Medical Center in St. Cloud after a massive stroke and subsequent complications left him comatose.

Funeral services were held on April 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flensburg, MN, with Father Anthony Kroll officiating. Burial will be April 12 at the MN State Veteran’s Cemetery where there will be a Military Prayer Service at 9:30 a.m. by V.F.W. Post 1112.

Henry S. Kedrowski was born February 19, 1930, in Parker Township, rural Morrison County, to Jacob and Martha (Wochnik) Kedrowski. He attended school in Parker Township and Swanville, MN, and later obtained a GED from Little Falls Community High School. He worked on the family farm before serving in the Army from 1956 to 1958, and then worked in various positions in Minnea-polis. He married Clara J. Cooper on May 6, 1961, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Long Prairie, MN, and they resided in Little Falls. He was employed at Camp Ripley as a mechanic, specializing in tire and battery maintenance from 1961 until his retirement in 1989. He joined the Minnesota Army National Guard in 1959 and served 30 years before retiring as a Sergeant First Class in 1989. He participated in several military training programs and received numerous commendations during his career at Camp Ripley. After his retirement, he started a fence building business and was known for his excellent work. Henry was a life member of V.F.W. Post 1112 in Little Falls and served two terms as Junior Vice-Commander and one term as Senior Vice-Commander. He was an enthusiastic member of the Greater Minnesota Two Cylinder Club and served one term as Sergeant at Arms. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish, Flensburg, and served as an usher and member of the Cemetery Committee. He was staunchly pro-life and, as a member of the Morrison County Chapter of MCCL, drove its float in area parades. He worked for Rep. Steve Wenzel as a member of his campaign committee.

Survivors include his wife Clara of Little Falls; son, Mark; daughter, Karen and son-in-law Timothy Fitzgerald, all of Rock Hill, SC; two grandchildren; sisters Bernice Belesky of Dearborn, MI; Veronica Altrichter of Clear Lake, MN; and, Cecilia Daniels of Nevis, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bernard, and an infant brother.

Pallbearers were nephews Barry Kedrowski, Douglas and Dale Altrichter, Kevin Cooper, Andrew Lindquist, and Michael Symanietz.

Priscilla R. Grau
Priscilla R. Grau, age 83, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died April 7, 1999 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 10 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie with the Rev. Harold Kost officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Priscilla Rose Vichorek - Grau was born June 26, 1915, in Somerset, WI, to the late John and Mary (Constantneau) Martell. She grew up in Somerset and later her family moved to St. Paul where she attended school. Priscella married John Vichorek in Glaskow, MT on March 25, 1935. The couple lived in Little Falls and, in 1968, John passed away. On April 6, 1974, Priscilla was united in marriage to Herbert Grau in Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Little Falls where she resided until her death. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie.

Survivors include her husband Herbert; sons, Jeff Vichorek and wife Deanna of Moose Lake, MN, John Vichorek and wife Sara of Seattle, WA, Dave Vichorek and wife Debra of Maple Grove, MN; daughter Patricia Otremba and husband Robert of New Hope, MN; brother, Douglas Duff and wife Shirley of Sacramento, CA; sister, Nora Swanson of Richfield, MN; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Vichorek, parents; brothers Anthony Martell and Steve Martell and a sister Isabel Mead.

Casketbearer were Mike, Mark, Jeff and Dave Vichorek, Charles Kelly and Robert Otremba.

Gertrude ‘Gerty’ M. Marshik
Gertrude “Gerty” M. Marshik, age 87, a resident of Pierz, MN, died April 10, 1999, at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held April 13 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz with the Rev. Kenneth Brenny officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Gertrude “Gerty” Marie Marshik was born November 10, 1911, near Andover, SD, to the late Samuel and Elizabeth (Dylla) Zimny. She grew up and attended school in Royalton, MN. She was united in marriage to Leonard “Leo” H. Marshik on May 22, 1935. The couple raised their family and farmed near Pierz until Leo’s death on February 15, 1961. Following his death Gertrude worked for several years at St. Mary’s Villa in Pierz in physical therapy. In 1989, Gertrude sold the family farm and moved to the city of Pierz. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, Christian Mothers and volunteered for many community activities. In 1990 she received a Recognition Award for Outstand-ing Service to the Pierz Commun-ity by the St. Joseph and St. Mary’s Catholic Aid Association. Gertrude was devoted to her family and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, crossword puzzles and playing scrabble.

Survivors include her daughters, Lois Boser and husband Daniel of Pierz, Ruth Johnson and husband Douglas of Fargo, ND, Doris Akins and husband Bruce of Watertown, MN; sons, David and wife Valerie of Plainview, MN, Gary and wife Mona of Canton, SD; brother Sylvester Zimny and wife Elaine of Royalton; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Stephen, Isidore, Jerome and Ignatious Zimny and sisters, Elizabeth and Mary Zimny.

Anna Carlson
Anna Sophia Carlson, age 92, died April 12, 1999, at the Mille Lacs Hospital.

Funeral services were held April 15 at the Onamia Christian and Missionary Alliance Church with Rev. Tom Franklin officiating. Interment followed at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca, MN.

Anna was born September 19, 1906, to Oscar and Anna Nelson on September 19, 1906. Her parents moved to a farm by Milaca when she was still a child. She had two sisters, Alice, a younger sister, and Esther, an older sister. She married Edgar Carlson in February of 1929. In the beginning of their marriage, they farmed near Milaca. In 1938, they moved to Onamia, MN, where they built a home and a farm and raised their four children. Anna was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Onamia. She was also a faithful prayer warrior.

Survivors include her son, Mack and wife Beverly of Raymond, MN; three daughters, Shirley Klous of Onamia, Adele and husband Phil Anderson of Arden Hills, MN, and Betsy R. Payne of White Bear Lake, MN; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Salgren of Milaca; a special friend, Bernice Wolf, who has cared for her for 12 years; also many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; sister, Esther Christenson; two sons-in-law, Larry Klous and William Payne. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Irene Andres
Irene Emma Andres, age 56, a resident of Missoula, MT, died April 3, 1999, at her home, after an incredibly courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Mass of Resurrection was held April 7 at Pope John XXIII Catholic Church in Missoula. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Irene was born June 23, 1942, in Royalton, MN, to Lampert Cornelius and Meta Hagen. She graduated from Little Falls High School, Little Falls, MN, in 1960 and received her nursing degree from St. Gabriel’s School of Nursing in Little Falls. After marrying Terry Andres at St. James Church in Randall, MN, on October 12, 1963, Irene worked for one year in St. Gabriel’s Hospital. In 1964 she had her first child, Shawn, in Little Falls and shortly after she moved to Missoula where she worked at St. Patrick Hospital in the obstetrics department until her second son, Tom, was born in 1966. During the next 11 years, Irene gave life to eight more children: Becky, Shelly, Jerry, Jesse, Julie, Nate, Nikki and Holly. She dearly loved her 10 children, dedicating her entire life and soul to them. Irene enthusiastically supported all her children in every endeavor. Irene was the true epitome of motherhood. She also opened her home and heart to teenagers in need. Her doors were always open. Irene was a giver. She gave to everyone, never expecting anything in return. She had an incredible gift for discovering the good in all people. Irene’s love touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her unconditional compassion reached all: both young and old. She cared for preschoolers in her day care. She began working at Hillside Manor nursing home in 1986 and continued there as the charge nurse until her disease forced her to retire in 1997. Her sincere love for nursing home residents was expressed each day through her genuine smile and warm hug. Irene was an integral part of the Missoula community. She was actively involved in both FFA and 4-H. She was a 4-H leader and the treasurer of the FFA Alumni for many years. Irene was an active member of Pope John XXIII Catholic Church and for many years taught religious education.

Survivors include her husband, Terry Andres; her children, Shawn and Laura Andres, Tom and Shelley Andres, Becky and Lanny DeHaan, Shelly and Erich Bolz, Jerry Andres, Jesse Andres, Julie and Shon Simpson, Nate and Jen Andres, Nikki Andres and Holly Andres; seven grandchildren, Morgan, Kolton, Neela, Mandy, Auston, Jon and Ruger; her brother and his wife, Alvin and Mary Hagen and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and brother, Erven Hagen. Her mother passed away the day following Irene’s death. Together, they will make the journey to heaven. Irene was dearly loved and will be incredibly missed.
