Daniel Briard
Daniel Briard, 53, of Delft died May 7, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee.

Services were held Thursday at Carson Mennonite Church in Delft with Rev. John Klassen officiating.

Special music was provided by Delora Ewert, organist.

Pallbearers were George Welk, Tom Zimmerman, Al Peterson, Robert Preston, Brian Spencer and Lanny Briard.

Interment with military honors provided by American Legion Post 206 of Windom was Friday at Norwegian Grove Cemetery in Gaylord.

A Masonic service was held Thursday at Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home in Windom, which was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Daniel Lee Briard was born May 11, 1947, to Jimmie and Fern (Matthes) Briard in Gaylord. He began his formal education in Gaylord and completed it at Mankato West High School, graduating in 1965.

Daniel joined the U.S. Navy and served as a crewman aboard the USS Essex in several parts of the world. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the Mankato area and continued his education at Stout State, where he studied mechanics.

He married Debra Leverson and together had three sons before the marriage ended in divorce.

In 1977, he married Sharon Pfeffer in Mankato. They lived in St. Clair for 16 years while Dan worked as an over-the-road trucker.

In 1992, they moved to Delft where he has been employed by the Minnesota Dept. of Transportation for the past 10 years, most recently as sign shop supervisor.

Since suffering a heart attack two years ago, Dan has experienced declining health.

Since moving to Delft, Dan and Sharon have attended Carson Mennonite Church. Dan has been a member of American Legion Post 206 of Windom and for several years been a part of Prudence Masonic Lodge in Windom.

He enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Delft; three sons, Jason Lee (Kim) Briard of Janesville, Chad Lee Briard of Delft and Bruce Lee Briard of Eagle Lake; Sharon’s daughters, Lori Jo (Dan) Pietsch of Shakopee, Tammi (Lance) Leiferman of Mapleton and Mary Jo (Jason) Pickering of Burnsville; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Arlene Briard of Averill Park, N.Y.

Gordon Getty
Gordon Getty, 90, of Grants-burg, Wis., died March 25, 2001, at Burnett County Continuing Care Center.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler.

Gordon Kenneth Getty was born Oct. 7, 1910, to Judson and Florence Getty in Lamberton. He later moved to Mapleton where he graduated from high school. He attended Luther College, graduating in 1937.

Gordon taught and coached in Jeffers from 1937 to 1942 when he began service in the U.S. Army.

In 1944, he married Avis Potter of Jeffers. He returned to Jeffers upon completion of his enlistment, then moved to Westbrook in 1950, where he was the high school principal and coach.

In 1955, he became superintendent of schools in Garden City until 1958, when he accepted the same position at Tyler. He served there until 1973.

After retiring, he spent winters in Texas and summers in Tyler.

For 33 years, Gordon’s favorite past time was fishing with his wife Avis in Manitoba, Canada.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Avis; two sisters, Helen Detamore and Adelaide Koziatek.

Survivors include his son, Bruce (Peg) Getty; three grandchildren; one brother, Addison Getty, and one half-brother, Glen Getty.

Arlene Anderson
Ferne Arlene Anderson, 75, of Windom died May 10, 2001, at her home.

Services were held Monday at First United Methodist Church in Windom with Rev. Jeffrey Hansen officiating.

Special music was provided by Deann Steele, organist.

Pallbearers were Chris Zimmerman, Henry Bartel, Don Gutknecht, Steve Gutknecht, Dick Ortmann and Jim Griffin.

Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home of Windom was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Ferne Arlene Raine was born Oct. 22, 1925, to Ernest and Ethel (Truckenmiller) Raine in Sibley, Iowa. She grew up in Sibley and attended school there, graduating from Sibley High School in 1943.

After completing her formal education, Arlene worked in a telephone office in California during the war years. After the war, she returned to Iowa.

In 1951, she married Donald Anderson in Sibley. The couple lived in Vermillion, S.D., Jackson, Westbrook, Wells and, finally, Windom.

In early years, she helped with Cub Scouts. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Windom.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don in 1986, and two sisters, Virginia and Marguerite.

Survivors include her son, Brooks (Kay) Anderson of Laurens, Iowa; two grandchildren; a nephew and foster son raised by Don and Arlene, Gary (Fran) Simpson of Columbia, S.C

Albert Gravenhof

Albert Gravenhof, 84, of Jackson died April 8, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Home in Jackson.

Services were held Saturday at the Christian Reformed Church in Worthington with the Rev. LeRoy Christoffels officiating.

Pallbearers were Albert’s grandchildren.

Interment was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worthington.

Albert was born Aug. 29, 1914, in Bigelow to Cornelius and Alice (Hubers) Gravenhof. He attended school in Bigelow and worked as a farm hand.

Albert married Frances Damstra in 1940, and they settled on a farm south of Worthington. He farmed in the Worthington area until retiring to their present home in 1976.

Albert was a lifetime member of the Christian Reformed Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, in 1996, two brothers, one sister and one grandson.

Survivors include his two sons, Cliff (Judy) of Worthington; Jude (Mavis) of Worthington; three daughters, Bert (Dean) Van’t Hul of Jackson; Sharlyn (Tim) Hopkins of Orlando, Fla.; Linda (Byron) Emmert of Mt. Lake; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Henry Gravenhof of Worthington; and one sister, Minnie Nydam of Belleflower, Calif.
