Paul Fox
Former area resident Paul L. Fox, 86, of Burlington, WA, died Monday, December 28, 1998, in Ferndale, WA.

He was born August 18, 1912 in Red Wing, one of 12 children of Albert and Annie (Schaeffer) Fox. He attended schools here.

His marriage to Carol Larson took place on October 21, 1944 in Miesville. The family moved to Washington state in 1956. His wife died in 1983. He was employed by Skagit County Road Department District 2. Paul was a retired volunteer firefighter for the Burlington Fire Department. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Sedro-Woolley, WA.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was a devoted fan of the Seattle Mariners.

Surviving are three daughters and one son-in-law, Paulette Peasley, Burlington, Susan and R.C. Powell, Ferndale, and Chris Ingstad, Sedro-Woolley; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Debra Fox, Bow, WA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Christine Peine, Cannon Falls, Odellia Cords, Northfield and Marcella Bauer, Hastings; one brother, Othmar Fox, Cannon Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a special friend, Wanda Kelley, Sedro-Woolley.

He was preceded in death by his wife; one grandson, Paul Peasley; two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral Mass was held Saturday, January 2, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Sedro-Woolley. Father Lawrence Minder, OSB, served as celebrant.

Interment followed in the Burlington Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Hulbush Funeral Home, Burlington.

Remembrances were suggested to Whatcom Hospice, 600 East Birchwood Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225; or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 719 Ferry Street, Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284.

Marion Kittelson
Marion Kittleson, 91, Mankato, died at the Hillcrest Health Care Center on Thursday, December 31, 1998.

Marion was born on July 26, 1907 in Cannon Falls to Thor and Mary (Daniellson) Johnson. She grew up in Cannon Falls and graduated from high school in 1925. She received an associate's degree at Winona and started teaching in 1927. She married Herbert G. Kittleson on November 20, 1954 in Minneapolis. Marion returned to the University of Minnesota and received her bachelor's degree in 1952 and taught grade school until the spring of 1954. She then became a homemaker and became active in card clubs and church groups. They traveled and wintered in mesa, AZ, until her husband's death in 1986. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by a brother, Rev. Marvin D. Johnson and his wife Dorothy of Rockford, IL, and one niece and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband a sister.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Hans Jorgensen officiating. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation is for one our before the services at the church. Landkamer Johnson-Boman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Lupus Foundation.

Linda Thiessen
Linda Thiessen, 82, of Mountain Lake, died on Monday evening, February 15, 1999, at her home in Mountain Lake.

Linda Viola Schriock, the daughter of Reinhardt and Katie (Schultz) Schriock was born November 20, 1916, in Mountain Lake, MN. She received her education at the Mountain Lake Public School. Linda was baptized on December 10, 1916, and in 1932 she was confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. On December 7, 1944, Linda was united in marriage to Aron H. Thiessen. The couple made their home together in Mountain Lake where Linda cleaned homes for area families. Mr. Thiessen died on December 24, 1967. Linda worked at the Mountain Lake meal site for 20 years, and she volunteered at the Good Samaritan Village. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Linda enjoyed taking trips and tours, and playing cards with her friends.

Linda is survived by a daughter, Marion Bowen and her husband, Marlyn, of Apple Valley; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; six step-great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Leo Barron of Estherville, IA; brother, Herman Schriock and his wife, Wilma, of Milwaukee, WI; two sisters-in-law, Grace Schriock of Mountain Lake, and Martha Thiessen of Milwaukee, WI; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Aron Thiessen; daughter, Shirley Barron; a sister in infancy; brother, Jacob Schriock; son-in-law, Doug Carlson.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 19, 1999, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake, with Rev. Robert Gardner officiating. Burial followed in the Mountain Lake Cemetery.

Marion Olson

Marion Esther Soland Olson, 94, Cannon Falls, died on Thursday morning, January 14, 1999 at the Our Lady of the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, where she has been a resident since April 1997.

Marion was born on December 16, 1904 in Canton, MN, the daughter of Engebret Truls Soland and Otillia (Roseth) Soland. She attended Canton High School and later graduated from Kenyon High School. For one year, she attended Mankato State, and then graduated with her teaching certificate from Winona State Teachers College. She taught school for two years at St. Louis County Consolidated Schools in Zim, MN, two years at Barnum, one year at Lanesboro and six years at Cannon Falls.

Marion married Merle S. Olson on August 1, 1936 in St. Paul. After marrying, she substitute taught in Cannon Falls for many years.

Marion was very active in the First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, where she served as Sunday school superintendent. Also, she served as treasurer of the Lutheran Women's Minnesota Synod for 8 years and treasurer for the Lutheran Women's Northwest Synod for 12 years. She was a Campfire Girls and Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother and secretary of the Cannon Falls Hospital and Nursing Home board. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Zion Chapter #6, receiving her 60 year pin in January 1998. She served as Worthy Matron in 1961. Marion was involved in the Tuesday Club, Project Club and Bridge Club.

Merle died on November 27, 1976. Marion lived in Hawaii with her daughter, Maren from 1982 until moving to Grand Forks to live with her son, Edwin. Marion received the Community Service Award while at Parkwood Place in Grand Forks. She moved back to Cannon Falls in April 1997.

Marion loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She truly enjoyed her handwork in sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting. She also made craft items with ease.

She is survived by her children, Edwin (Bette) of Grand Forks, ND, Merle Jr. (Marjory) of San Antonio, TX and Maren (Alec) McBarnet of Kula, Maui, Hawaii; nine grandchildren, Steve, Eric (Lucia) and Kerry Olson, Jeffery, Michael and Jessica Olson, Alexander, Logan and Jennifer McBarnet; two great-grandchildren, Beryl and Anders Olson; sister, Ruth (Bill) Altland of Cottage Grove, OR; sister-in-law, Evelyn Soland of Cresco, IA; and five nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle; brothers, Ellsworth "Dick", Raymond "Pinky" and Arnold Soland; and sisters, Helen Cole and Geneva Soland.

Funeral service was held on Monday, January 18 at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Phillip Ruud officiating. Interment was at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve, Eric, Kerry, Jeffery, Michael and Jessica Olson, Alexander, Logan and Jennifer McBarnet, Ilot Soland and Leslie McKenna.

Memorials are preferred to the First English Lutheran Church and the Cannon Falls Library.

Lowell Dunker
Lowell H. Dunker, 71, Cannon Falls, died on Wednesday afternoon, January 13, 1999 at home.

Lowell was born on March 27, 1927 in Havanna Township, the son of Carl and Olga (Kruckeberg) Dunker. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1946, and married LaVonne "Bonnie" Luthe on June 21, 1949 at St. John's Lutheran Church near Owatonna. They later divorced in 1974.

After farming for many years, Lowell was employed as a truck driver and dispatcher with Polman Transfer in Wadena and Bemidji. He later drove for Dart Transport in Minneapolis. Upon moving to Cannon Falls, he was employed for nine years (until 1997) at the Yellow Bird. Since 1994, Lowell has been employed as a bus driver for the Cannon Falls School District. For a time he worked at the Edgewood Restaurant and Motel, and also was a delivery person for the Hi-Quality Bakery in Cannon Falls during the summer of 1998.

He is survived by his beloved friend, Eleanor Beadle of Cannon Falls; his children, Katherine "Kitty" (Gary) Boylan of Ham Lake, Krystal (Robert) Frink of Quincy, IL, Steven (Jackie) Dunker of Wadena and Julie (Rev. Ken) Tubbesing of Cook, NE; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Jan) Dunker of Cannon Falls; sister, Marlys Akkerman of Janesville; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Russell Dunker; brother-in-law, Don Akkerman, and former wife, LaVonne "Bonnie" Dunker.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, January 16 at First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastor Phillip Ruud officiating. Interment will be at a later date at St. John's of Havanna Cemetery near Owatonna. Active pallbearers were Gary Boylan, Robert Frink, Steven Dunker, Rev. Ken Tubbesing, Kenneth and Maynard Akkerman. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Beadle and Don Hasti.

Kathren Elchuk
Kathren Elchuk, 93, Cannon Falls, died on Tuesday morning, January 19, 1999 at Our Lady of the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls where she has been residing since 1992.

She was born Kathren Dooboi on December 7, 1905 in the Ukraine, and was married to Samuel Elchuk. He died in 1951.

Kathren was a resident at Freeborn Manor prior to living at the nursing home.

She is survived by her children, Gloria (Marvin) Olson of Cannon Falls, Willie (Muriel) Elchuk of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Lou (George) Bailey of Rochester; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister Mary Loukashenok of Vineland, New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 22 at 10 a.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls with Sister Patricia Fritz officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. There will be no public reviewal.

Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Mark and Mike Olson, Brian Marthaler, Boyd and Bruce Bailey.
