Ben Schiell
Benjamin Dale Schiell, 14, rural Dennison, died as a result of an accident on Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Ben was born Sept. 1, 1984, in Cannon Falls, the son of Dennis and Lynn (McCarthy) Schiell. He was baptized at Urland Lutheran Church in Leon Township. He loved school and was currently in the 8th grade at Cannon Falls High School. He was active in the football and wrestling programs.
Ben enjoyed riding his horse, and was a member of the Dodge Co. 4-H, where he was involved in roping with the Western Heritage program. He really enjoyed working part-time at Jim Simon Arena in Cannon Falls.
He could be found outdoors most of the time, as he loved hunting, fishing and going with his friends to the secret pond.
He is survived by his parents, Dennis and Lynn, rural Dennison, his sisters and brother, Heidi, Dennis Jr. "D.J." and Gerianne, all at home; grandparents Joe and Evelyn McCarthy, Kenyon, and Geraldine Schiell, Cannon Falls; great grandmother Esther Rehder, Cannon Falls; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Schiell Jr.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Urland Lutheran Church, with Pastor Scott McLaughlin officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Kraig Zibolski, Brian McCarthy, Dennis Forcelle, Stuart Mills, Leonard Schiell and John McDonald. Honorary pallbearers were Clayton Kodada, Adam Hernke, Josh Fisher, Micah Flodeen and the Cannon Falls High School football and wrestling teams. Arrangements by Lundberg Funeral Home, Cannon Falls.
Penny Schiell
Louise Penny (Anderson) Schiell, known as "Penny," 43, Zumbrota, and formerly of Cannon Falls and Wanamingo, died as the result of an auto accident on Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Penny was born June 16, 1955 in Stillwater, to Gust Hugo and Mildred M. (Moore) Anderson. Penny attended school in Cannon Falls and graduated from Cannon Falls High School. She later attended Moorhead State University for two years. She was currently employed at the Zumbrota Nursing Home.
She is surivived by her daughter Rachel; her son, William; and their father, Wenzel Schiell; mother, Mildred M. Anderson, Cannon Falls; brother, Robert (Sonja) Anderson, Farmington; five sisters, Anna Mae (George) Nadeau, Lake City, Mary Jane (George) Hall, Billings, MT, Katherine (Paul) Stallman, Owatonna, Patricia Anderson, Eagan, and Judy (Reid) Anderson, Stanton; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gust Anderson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Church of Christ, Cannon Falls, with Rev. Ken Larson officiating. Burial was at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her nephews and nieces, Dan Nadeau, Robin Bungert, Jill Godsey, Shelly Lundgren, Jessie and Josh Anderson. Arrangements by Lundberg Funeral Home, Cannon Falls.
Caroline Swicker
Caroline Margaret "Carol" Swicker, 63, Cannon Falls, died on Sunday, Sept. 27,. 1998 at Red Wing Health Center.
Carol was born Dec. 15, 1934, in Highland Park, IL, the daughter of Frederick and Nellie (Graham) Stroud. She was married to Edwin Swanson, and he later died. She married Harry A. Swicker Nov. 27, 1976, at St. Mathias Catholic Church, Waukegan, IL, and they moved to Cannon Falls in August, 1978.
She has been employed for the past 11 years as vice president of F. J. Moore Manufacturing, Cannon Falls. She was a member of St. Pius V Catholic Church, and had been active with the League of Women Voters. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and working with her flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Harry; children Kevin (Katie) Hogan, Burnsville, John (Paula) Hogan, Cannon Falls, Fred (Chris) Hogan, Hastings, Rebecca (Stephen) Swanson-Cahill, Canton, MA, and Laura Swanson, Cannon Falls; seven grandchildren, Jessica and Mark Hogan, Blake and Brook Hogan, Morgan and Jacob Hogan and Matthew Swanson; brother, John (Nancy) Stroud, Fullerton, CA; nephews and niece, Tom, Steven and Susie, and close friends, Delores Jed, Lois and Ralph Stark and Aunt Mayme Rosie. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Frederick Stroud.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius V Catholic Church, with Fr. David Shannon officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the Lake Forest Cemetery, Lake Forest, IL. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Lundberg Funeral Home, Cannon Falls. There will also be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society.
Active pallbearers will be Kevin, John and Fred Hogan and Stephen Cahill. Honorary pallbearers will be her seven grandchildren. Arrangements by Lundberg Funeral Home, Cannon Falls.
Maxine Charlson
L. Maxine Charlson, 83, Red Wing, died Tuesday, September 22, 1998 at Red Wing Health Center.
She was born December 25, 1914 in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Virginia (Torbol) Baxter.
She graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis. She lived in Frontenac for a number of years. She married Rudy Charlson June 27, 1945 in Frontenac. They lived in Red Wing for many years. He died January 23, 1993. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by distant relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother, William.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 11 at 2 p.m. at United Lutheran Church with Reverends Randall D. Johnson and Gary Elg officiating.
Memorials preferred to Mayo Foundation.
Karline Hunter
Karline Marie Hunter, 60, Cannon Falls, died at her home on Tuesday, September 29, 1998.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls with Pastor Dana Peterson officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-8 at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls.

Catherine Ohnstad
Catherine Anna Ohnstad, 104, Cannon Falls, died Friday morning, June 25, 1999 at Our Lady of the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Catherine was born on January 31, 1895 in New Trier, the daughter of Frank and Ernestine (nee Feitz) Beissel. She attended country schools at New Trier and Farmington.
Catherine married Peter Ohnstad. She enjoyed selling ready-to-wear at the Style Shop and Josie Mills' ladies clothing and hat shop. Her last employment was at Ben Franklin where she retired at the age of 80. Catherine enjoyed watching baseball, playing cards, needlework, and reading. She was a longtime member of the St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband Peter in 1960; her parents; sisters and brothers Mame Richette, Madeline Siebenaler, Joe, John, Max, George and Fritz Beissel. She is survived by sisters Rose Thayer of Mauston, Wisconsin and Christine Biskupski of Hastings, and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Robert Thayer, Marvin Biskupski, Ray Schabert, Bob, Kent and Ed Beissel.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, June 28 at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls with Fr. Roger Hessian officiating. Interment was at St. Boniface Cemetery in Hastings.

Donald Fredrickson
Donald R. Fredrickson, 83, Red Wing, died Monday, June 28, 1999 at Castle Ridge Care Center, Eden Prairie.
He was born September 13, 1915 in Red Wing the son of Fred and Ruth (Weberg) Fredrickson. He married Bella Iverson on October 25, 1941. He worked for Swanson Trucking Co., Vasa Creamery, he owned and operated buses for Vasa School District and he worked for Cannon Falls School District. He and Bella lived in Vasa for 56 years. She died October 2, 1997. He was a life-long member of Vasa Lutheran Church; he enjoyed playing the violin and played at many local church and community activities.
He is survived by one daughter, Diann (Lance) Smith of Eden Prairie, 2 grandchildren - Carolyn (Douglas) Johnson of Chanhassen, and Ben Smith of Minneapolis; 2 great-grandsons, Avery and Eliot Johnson; 2 brothers, Norman (Hazel) of Cannon Falls and George (Barbara) of Edina. His wife; 1 sister, Beatrice Lee, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 1, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Vasa Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Dobbins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and on Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Rosella Carlson
Rosella M. Carlson, age 90, of Cannon Falls, died on Friday, June 25, 1999 at the Our Lady of the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.
Rosella was born on April 6, 1909 in Welch, the daughter of Oscar and Hulda (Swanson) Johnson. Rosella grew up and attended school in the Welch and Vasa areas. She was confirmed at the Vasa Lutheran Church.
On November 28, 1931 she married Anton Carlson at Vasa. They made their home in Cannon Falls. Her husband died on March 28, 1983.
In 1996, Rosella moved to the Stonehouse Apartments in Cannon Falls. She enjoyed making quilts, cooking and baking. She was a member of the St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church.
Preceding her in death were her husband; an infant son, Luverne; and brothers, Floyd Johnson and her twin, Roy Johnson.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marian Johnson of Cannon Falls; nieces, Diane Johnson of Pasadena, CA, and Arvilla Lundell of Cannon Falls; nephews, Shawn Johnson of Madison, WI, and Lewellyn Johnson of Ely, MN; cousins, Vernon Anderson of Hastings, Leslie Anderson of California; Gloria Barnes of Augusta, WI, Myrtle Peterson of Welch, and Maurine Gruber of Cannon Falls; and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 29, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, Cannon Falls with Pastor Dean Lundgren officiating. Interment was at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Lewellyn Johnson, Jim Peterson, Roger Gruber, Larry Welt, David Lundell, and LeRoy Peterson.
