MARIETTA, Ga. - Jonathan Paul, 52, of Kennesaw, Ga., died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at First Asian Indian Baptist Church of Metro Atlanta in Marietta, Ga. The Rev. Younis Farhat will officiate. The body will lie in state from 1 p.m. until time of services Saturday. Burial will be at Pine Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Kennesaw.

Born in India, Mr. Paul had lived in Hannibal and attended Hannibal-LaGrange College before moving to Cobb County, Ga., in 1982. He was employed as a senior customer agent for Delta Airlines. He was president and founder of Atlanta Gymnkhana Cricket Club and a member and deacon at First Asian Indian Baptist Church of Metro Atlanta in Marietta.

Survivors include his wife, Anjana Paul; two brothers, David Paul of Santa Clara, Calif., and Benjamin Paul of Manchester, England.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta.

Donald Ray Martin
May 3, 1936 - Jan. 23, 2003

TROY - Donald Ray (Red) Martin, 66, of Winfield, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ridge Road Baptist Church in Troy. The Rev. Mark Self will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be at New Galilee Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home in Troy.

Mr. Martin was born May 3, 1936, in Howell to Edward and Bertha Portwood Martin Holland.

He was married to Margie McCasland on Aug. 10, 1957, in Troy. She survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Anita (Paul) Conway of Potosi, Kathy Greber of Winfield and Sharon Martin and fiancˇ, Chris Schneider, of Winfield; his mother, Bertha Holland of Troy; two sisters, Joyce (Bob) Hilton of Winfield and Sally Hopkins of Troy; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; and one son, Tony Joe Martin.

Mary Jane Steele
Aug. 15, 1950 - Jan. 23, 2003

ELSBERRY - Mary Jane Steele, 52, of Elsberry, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Silex Community Care Center in Silex.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at Centennial United Methodist Church in Elsberry. The Rev. Brenda Cockrell will officiate. Burial will be at Elsberry City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.

Mrs. Steele was born Aug. 15, 1950, in Pike County to Louis and Beatrice Webb Wilkerson.

She was married to Milford Lee Steele on March 13, 1976, in Bowling Green. He survives.

Other survivors include one stepdaughter, Marlena K. Davis of Clarksville; one stepgrandson, Christopher Davis of Clarksville; one sister, Shirley Wilkerson of Las Vegas, Nev.; two aunts, Catherine McPike and Sarah Grimmett, both of Clarksville; two sisters-in-law, Charlene Wolfe and Marsleen Kerr and her husband Curtis Sr., all of Elsberry; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert Battle Jr.
Aug. 16, 1949 - Jan. 22, 2003

MONROE CITY - Robert Battle Jr., 53, of Monroe City, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in the emergency room of Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Garner Funeral Chapel in Monroe City. The Rev. Paul Washington will officiate. Burial will be at St. Jude Cemetery in Monroe City.

Visitation will be from noon until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Battle was born Aug. 16, 1949, in St. Louis to Robert and Virgil Johnson Battle Sr.

He was married to Shirley Wade Rice Small on Sept. 16, 1996, in Monroe City. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Robert Battle III; five daughters, Donna Brown and Robin Vontress, both of California, and Sha-Shona Wade, Porsha Reaneasha Battle and Shaiaji Small, all of Monroe City; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Bernard Battle of St. Louis; one sister, Rose Battle of St. Louis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Jill Battle; and one niece.

Mr. Battle attended St. Louis schools and was a Baptist by faith. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He had been employed by the Norfolk and Southern Railroad.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Pallbearers will be Robert Battle III, Kent and Brent Holland, Orville Minter, Patrick Minter, Kenny Jones Jr., Charles Hill and Casey Minter.

Bernita L. Saxe
June 3, 1918 - Jan. 25, 2003

VANDALIA - Bernita L. Saxe, 84, of Vandalia, died at 8:23 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia. The Rev. Bob Hoehn will officiate. Burial will be at the Vandalia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services today at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Saxe was born June 3, 1918, in Perry to Stonewell Jackson Templeton and Iva Mae Deckard Hart.

She was married to William Henry Saxe on July 4, 1942. He preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1997.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jane Teague and husband, Wayne, of Belleville, Ill.; one sister, Margaret Porter of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two grandchildren, William Teague of Edmond, Okla., and Christopher Teague of Manchester; and one granddaughter, Samantha Teague.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Sylvia Carroll

MONROE CITY - Sylvia Carroll, 93, of Monroe City, died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Monroe City Manor Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at the First Baptist Church in Monroe City. Burial will be at the Ariel Cemetery in Ralls County.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Garner Funeral Home in Monroe City and after 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Robert Battle Jr.

MONROE CITY - Robert Battle Jr., 53, of Monroe City, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Garner Funeral Chapel in Monroe City. Burial will be at St. Jude Cemetery in Monroe City.

Visitation will be from noon until time of services Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Barbara Sharp

SHELBINA - Barbara Sharp, 56, of Kansas City, Mo., died at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at her home.

Funeral services are pending at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina.

Virgil M. Alderton
June 12, 1924 - Jan. 11, 2003

EWING - Virgil M. Alderton, 78, of Windsor and formerly of Durham and Ewing, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, at Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing. The Rev. Michael Mann will officiate. Burial will be at Durham Cemetery in Durham with a military honors service by Lewis County Memorial Post 578 of Lewistown.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family meeting friends after 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home.

Mr. Alderton was born June 12, 1924, in Ten Mile to John and Minnie Armstrong Alderton.

He was married to Verna Hagenah in February 1991, in Windsor. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, John Alderton; three daughters, Vicki Alderton, Nancy Campbell, and Ellyn Atkins; his twin sister, Virgie Kelley; three stepdaughters, Sandy Wikstrum, Faye Sirios and Patty Hagenah; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Jamie, Sheri and Erin; and eight stepgrandchildren.

Thelma V. Baldwin
Feb. 21, 1923 - Jan. 13, 2003

HANNIBAL - Thelma V. Baldwin, 79, of Hannibal, died at 3 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Grand View Funeral Chapel in Hannibal. The Rev. David Johnson will officiate. Inurnment will be at Grand View Burial Park.

No visitation is planned.

Mrs. Baldwin was born Feb. 21, 1923, in Hannibal to Henry and Nellie Gottman Stark.

She was married to Wilfred Dale Baldwin on May 20, 1967, in Palmyra. He survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Lloyd Shobe of Mesa, Ariz., and Henry Shobe of Euless, Texas; two daughters, Linda Hickman and Bonnie Sutton, both of Hannibal; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, John William Stark; three sisters, Geraldine Stark, Dixie Franklin and Alice Webber; one grandson, Arthur Hickman; and one great-great-grandson, Gauge Michael Lewis.

Mrs. Baldwin was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.

Sarah Harrison
March 16, 1925 - Jan. 23, 2003

SHELBINA - Sarah Harrison, 77, of Shelbina, died at 4:20 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Skaggs Community Hospital in Branson.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Chapel in Shelbina. Pastor Scott Dalrymple will officiate. Burial will be at Shelbina Cemetery-West Lawn Addition.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Harrison was born March 16, 1925, in Bevier to Lee and Birtie Riley Harris.

She was married to Johnnie Harrison on Feb. 6, 1945, in Memphis, Tenn. He preceded her in death Aug. 13, 1989.

Survivors include one son, Wayne Harrison of Shelbina; two grandchildren, Anthony East of Decatur, Ala., and Peter Harrison of Ozark; one great-grandson, Anthony Robert East; three brothers, Robert Harris of Blue Eye, Virgil Harris of Macon and Johnny Harris of Kansas City; and one sister, Delores Jones of Kansas City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Alice L. Hoyes

LA GRANGE - Alice L. Hoyes, 85, of Palmyra and formerly of La Grange, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra.

Funeral services are pending at Davis Funeral Home in La Grange.

Alice Bishop
Sept. 21, 1918-Jan. 25, 2003

PALMYRA - Alice Bishop, 84, of Luther Manor Nursing Home in Hannibal and formerly of Philadelphia, Mo., and Steffenville, died at 11:03 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. The Rev. Dewayne Larenson will officiate. Burial will be at Steffenville Cemetery in Steffenville.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Bishop was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Knox County to Jim and Nellie A. Arment Mitchell.

She was married to Floyd L. Bishop on Aug. 24, 1936, in Palmyra. He preceded her in death Nov. 4, 2001.

Survivors include one son, James William Bishop and wife, Jean, of Hannibal; one daughter, Judith Ann Drebenstedt and husband, George, of Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Shalayne Ragar of Troy, Shannon Bishop of Hannibal, and Steve Drebenstedt and Lori Byers, both of Philadelphia; and two great-grandchildren, Rylan Ragar of Troy and Trevor Drebenstedt of Philadelphia.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lethe Hickman and Alta Pinson; and one brother, Noble Mitchell.

Mrs. Bishop was a housewife. She was a member of Steffenville Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to Steffenville Christian Church.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Hathaway, Tom Kitch, Randy Crabill, Francis Dawson, Denny Dawson and Justin Byers.

Dolores (Dee) Gottman

HANNIBAL - Dolores N. (Dee) Gottman, 72, of Hannibal, died at 10:14 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Gerald Begley will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the funeral home.
