Aug. 17, 1925-Jan. 11, 2003

HANNIBAL - Richard D. Lee, 77, of Hannibal, died at 1:25 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at the University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Dorothy Reed will officiate. Burial, with full military rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post. No. 55, will be at Grand View Burial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Lee was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Ilasco to Alvin L. and Lorene Large Lee.

He was married to NeNe Malone on Oct. 10, 1952, in Ilasco. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, David Lee and wife, Lisa, of Hannibal; one daughter, Marsha Murphy and husband, Tom, of Hannibal; five grandchildren, Brian Murphy, David Murphy, Eric Murphy, Elias Lee and Tyler Lee; one niece, Linda Conn; and two nephews, Gary Lee and John Lee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Alvin Gerald Lee.

Mr. Lee was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Continental Cement Co. He was a Nazarene by faith. He was a member of Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55.

Memorials may be made to Children's Department at the First Church of the Nazarene.

Pallbearers will be Brian Murphy, David Murphy, Eric Murphy, Elias Lee, Tyler Lee, Gary Lee, Jeff Conn, Jeff Riley and Terry Conn.

Charlotte E. Hymes
May 8, 1946-Jan. 3, 2003

HANNIBAL - Charlotte E. Hymes, 56, of Hannibal, died at 12:25 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at her home.

A graveside service and burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal. The Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.

No visitation is planned. James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Hymes was born May 8, 1946, in Hannibal to Edward and Laura Stone Hymes.

Survivors include her stepfather, Elmer Phelps of Hannibal; one brother, Richard Hymes of Hannibal; and two nephews, Charles Hymes of Hannibal and Michael Hymes of Harrison, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Laura Phelps.

Carolita Stradford
Sept. 14, 1937-Jan. 4, 2003

ELSBERRY - Carolita Mae Fakes Stradford, 65, of Elsberry, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at her home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Elsberry AR Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Elsberry City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry.

Mrs. Stradford was born Sept. 14, 1937, in Enid, Okla., to Luis Torres and Geneva Heisler Reyes.

She married Edward Max Fakes on May 21, 1972, in Elsberry. He died May 20, 1998. She later married Charles Stradford. He survives.

Also surviving are five sons, Pat Fakes and Allen Fakes of Elsberry, Tom Fakes of Romulus, Mich., Carey Fakes of O'Fallon and Rick Price of Old Monroe; five daughters, Carol Jean Marshall and Connie Bonstell of Elsberry, Keri Lundry of St. Johns, Laurie Noble of Warrenton and Lori Tucker of Troy; two stepsons, William Stradford and Thomas Stradford of Annada; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Stradford of Annada; 41 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two sisters.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jesse Joe Potter and Ryan Anthony Parris.

Helene E. O'Hern
Oct. 13, 1910 - Jan. 2, 2003

HANNIBAL - Helene E. O'Hern, 92, of Hannibal, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10 a.m. today at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. Pastor Tom Day will officiate

The James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. O'Hern was born Oct. 13, 1910, in Philadelphia to Frank and Bernice Mae Glascock Dungan.

She was married to Joseph Francis O'Hern on June 11, 1931, in St. Louis. He preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1981.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Colbert and husband, Ronnie, of Hannibal; two nieces, Martha Anderson of Kansas City, Mo., and Mary Leonard of Houston, Texas; one nephew, Dr. Tom O'Hern of Springfield, Ill.; two stepgrandchildren, Ronda and Jason Colbert; and her favorite pet cat, Baby.

She was preceded in death by her only grandchild, Frank Dean Piper.

Mrs. O'Hern was a member of Oakwood Christian Church and the Christian Womens Fellowship Group at both the First Christian Church and Oakwood Christian Church. She was a Girl Scout leader and volunteer at the Hannibal Courier-Post folding papers for the Lutheran Church for several years. Mrs. O'Hern also served as a poll judge in Marion County for many years.

Memorials may be made to Oakwood Christian Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Colbert, Kenny Tibbits and Larry Catlett.

Alma Oshel
Sept. 1, 1910-Dec. 31, 2002

HANNIBAL - Alma Oshel, 92, of Hannibal, died at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Willow Care Center in Hannibal.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Mark Burkey will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Oshel was born Sept. 1, 1910, in Alva, Okla., to Andrew E. and Lula Ella Spenser Carlson.

She was married to John V. Oshel on July 15, 1930, in Buffalo, Okla. He preceded her in death May 3, 1999.

Survivors include one daughter, LaDonna Oshel of Hannibal; one son-in-law, Lowell Arndt of Wilmer, Minn.; one brother, Raymond Carlson of Alva, Okla.; four grandchildren, Wayne Arndt, Ronda Freiborg, Marlena Orndorff and Keith Arndt; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Verna Arndt; and one brother, Edward Carlson.

Mrs. Oshel was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Pallbearers will be James Thornton, Fred Swan, Lowell Arndt, Wayne Arndt, Norman Lawson and Terry Conn.

Travis Waples will be an honorary pallbearer.

Juanita Dennison
Jan. 6, 1921-Dec. 31, 2002

HANNIBAL - Juanita Dennison, 81, of Hannibal, died at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Willow Care Center in Hannibal.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal. The Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.

No visitation is planned. James O'Donnell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dennison was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Hannibal to Emuel (Jack) and Odessa Abbett Jones.

She was married to Lloyd Dennison on June 23, 1941, in Hannibal. He preceded her in death Oct. 24, 1995.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Southard of Taylor, Texas; one granddaughter, Tammy Truan of Round Rock, Texas; and one great-granddaughter, Kirsten Matson of Round Rock.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Mrs. Dennison attended the First United Methodist Church.

Robert L. Mook

HANNIBAL - Robert L. Mook, 80, of Palmyra, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at Providence Church in Withers Mill.

Tommy Jackson

MONROE CITY - Tommy Jackson, 31, of Atlanta, Ga., and formerly of Monroe City, died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in Atlanta.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at Garner Funeral Chapel in Monroe City. The Rev. Albert Cartmill will officiate. Burial will be at St. Jude Cemetery in Monroe City.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Anna Dean Woollen
March 29, 1920 - Jan. 8, 2003

HANNIBAL - Anna Dean Woollen, 82, of New London, died at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Westview Nursing Home in Center.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Barkley Cemetery in New London. Pastor Tom Day will officiate.

There will be no visitation.

Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Woollen was born March 29, 1920, in Mexico to Charles Austin and Geraldine Livingston Lewis.

She was married to Charles Wesley (Preach) Woollen on June 17, 1940. He preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1996.

Survivors include four daughters, Gerry Fuqua and husband, Darrell, Betty Jacobs, Judy Stroud and husband, Chris, and Bobbe Winders and husband Gaylord, all of New London; one son, Wes Woollen and wife, Donna, of New London; nine grandchildren, Gerald Jacobs of Moore, Okla., Janice Jacobs and husband, Landon Campbell of Dallas, Texas, Karen Kramer and husband, Alan, of Tipton, Ga., Calvin Stroud and wife, Kelly, of Hannibal, Kevin Stroud, Amy Winders, and Bill Winders and wife, Cynthia, all of St. Louis, and Austin Woollen and Wesley Woollen, both of New London; six great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by one son, William Lewis Woollen; two grandsons, Jeff Jacobs and Edward Winders; one brother, William L. Lewis ; and one sister, Mary Betty Ray.

Mrs. Woollen was a secretary at the Ralls County Health Department for many years. She later did volunteer work at New London Elementary School. She was a member of New London First Christian Church and was a graduate of Mexico High School.

Memorials may be made to Westview Nursing Home.

Pallbearers will be Bill Winders, Gerald Jacobs, Kevin Stroud, Calvin Stroud, Wesley Woollen and Austin Woollen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Janice Jacobs, Karen Kramer and Amy Winders.

Robert (Bob) Griggs
Aug. 28, 1935 - Jan. 6, 2003

PARIS - Robert (Bob) Griggs, 67, of Holliday, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at his home after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Agnew Funeral Home in Paris. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Madison.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Griggs was born Aug. 28, 1935, in Virginia Beach, Va., to Joseph and Annabelle Leary Griggs II.

He was married to Cathy Johnson on Aug. 30, 1974, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.

Other survivors include three children, Toni Marie Griggs of Moberly and Frances Rossi and Johnna Griggs, both of the state of California; four grandchildren, Christopher Pyles, Joseph Griggs-O'Bannon, Jenny Rossi and Stephanie Rossi; and two brothers, Joseph Griggs III of San Francisco, Calif., and Larry Griggs of Knotts Island, N.C.

Mr. Griggs retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after 22 years of service. He served in the Vietnam War.

Frances Rice
Sept. 5, 1918 - Jan. 7, 2003

CLARENCE - Frances Rice, 84, of Clarence, died at 2:34 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Chapel in Clarence. Jim Bilbro will officiate. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rice was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Clarence to Ora Kirk and Florence Lillian Gray Hiner.

She was married to Lawrence Rice on Feb. 9, 1946, in Kansas City. He survives.

Other survivors include five children, Margaret Mealiff, George Rice, John Rice, Sheryl Echternacht and Paul Rice; five grandchildren, Peter Mealiff, Jennifer and Christopher Rice and Jason and Kimberly Rice; two stepgrandchildren, Randy Echternacht and Kathy Buckman; six stepgreat-grandchildren, Bryce, Cody, Cervenka, Ethan and Tanner Buckman and Nicholas Littrell; and seven brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Shaver and Ruby Gray.
