HELTON

Lena Helton, 87, Crocker, died Sept. 27, 1999, at Osage Beach Healthcare Center.

She was born Sept. 8, 1912, in Maries County, a daughter of James and Dora Martin Barnett. She was married Dec. 13, 1928, in Maries County, to Guy Helton, who died Feb. 4, 1999.

A lifelong resident of Pulaski County, she was a member of Crocker Church of Christ. She was a homemaker

Survivors include: one son, J.D. Helton, Crocker; one daughter, Elsie Whittle, Crocker; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Three sons, Virgil Helton, Alfred Helton and Gerald Helton, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Jim Meredith will officiate. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery near Crocker.

Visitation will be from 5:30-8 p.m. today.

HOFFMAN

Ida J. Hoffman, 86, Humboldt, Iowa, died Sept. 27, 1999, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 9, 1913, in Crofton, Neb., a daughter of Anthony and Anna Kuchta. She was married Feb 10, 1938, in Santa Fe, N.M., to Herman J. Hoffman, who died Nov. 19, 1995.

She was employed at the Humboldt County Courthouse, and later at Foley's Greenhouse and then Country Florals. She was a member of St. Mary's Ladies Society.

Survivors include: two sons, Mark D. Hoffman, Eldon, and Paul J. Houston, state of Iowa; one daughter, Rose Rahbain, Webster City, Iowa; three sisters, Anne Richstatter, Plainview, Neb., Cecilia Spalding, Lyons, Mich., and Christine Pick, Lake Ozark; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church, Humboldt. The Rev. Eugene J. Ulses will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sievers-Swank-Laufersweiler Funeral Home, Humboldt, with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

KRATZER

Wilbur C. Kratzer, 87, California, died Sept. 1, 1999, at California Care Center.

He was born Dec. 14, 1911, in Moniteau County, a son of Charles E. and Marie Fahrni Kratzer. He was married Oct. 7, 1936, in Kansas City, to Mary Argo, who survives at the home.

A 1929 graduate of California High School, he attended Warrensburg Teachers College and graduated from Kansas City Central Business College, Kansas City.

He taught at Highland School, near California. He owned Kennedy and Kratzer Inc.-Potato Brokers, Chicago, until his retirement.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, California, and a former 22-year member of California United Church of Christ.

He was a former member of St. Peters United Church of Christ, Skokie, Ill., where he was a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and president of the church council.

He also served on the ecumenical affairs council and was a Big Brother.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Carolyn Berghoefer, Denver, and Kathryn Riemer, Evanston, Ill.; one brother, Herbert E. Kratzer, North Fork, Calif.; two sisters, Gertrude Tague, Kansas City, and Martha Dawson, Somerset, Calif.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Salem United Church of Christ. The Rev. Gary Schulte will officiate. Burial will be in Rohrbach Cemetery, near California.

Memorials are suggested to the Gideons, P.O. Box 235, California, Mo. 65018; California United Church of Christ, 101 N. Oak, California, Mo. 65018; or Salem United Church of Christ, in care of Larry Albertin, 1501 South Roach, California, Mo. 65018.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

SCHILLING

Marjorie A. Schilling, 79, Gravois Mills, died Sept. 26, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Centralia, Ill., a daughter of Wilson Sr. and Lucille Sliger Whitehead. She was married to Jack Schilling, who survives at the home.

She was a member of the West Lake Christian Church Laurie, and the Lady Elks, both in Laurie.

She also is survived by one son, Jack Schilling, Bowling Green, Ky., two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery, Laurie. The Rev. Jack Daniel will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 of Laurie Scholarship Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

HALFERTY

Pauline F. Halferty, 93, Liberty, formerly of  Jefferson City, died Sept. 29, 1999, at Liberty Terrace Care Center.

She was born Sept. 1, 1906, in Excelsior Springs, a daughter of Jesse and Pearl Turner. She was married to Clifford Halferty, who died in 1971.

She owned a gift shop in Liberty and was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived by two nephews, Walt and Frank Halferty, Smithville, and one niece, Anne Payne, Overland Park, Kan.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home, Liberty. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, Liberty.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10 a.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to Liberty Hospital Hospice.

LAUGHLIN

Carver G. Laughlin, 85, Palmdale, Calif., formerly of California, Mo., died Sept. 23, 1999, at Antelope Valley Convalescent Hospital, Lancaster, Calif.

He was born April 29, 1914, in  Jefferson City.

He was a drummer during the big band era, and worked as an electrician for Lockhead before retiring. He had lived in Kansas City and moved to Palmdale in 1964.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Masonic Cemetery, California.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

PUGH

Mary Lou Pugh, 60, Sunrise Beach, died Sept. 28, 1999, at Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital, Osage Beach.

She was born Dec. 9, 1938, in Redondo Beach, Calif., a daughter of Glen and Mary West. Her mother, Mary Jennings, survives in Atchison, Kan. She was married Sept. 6, 1978, in Norwalk, Calif., to John Westley Pugh, who died June 24, 1996.

Other survivors include: one son, Thomas Haggerty, Sunrise Beach; one daughter, Melody Kozicki, Sunrise Beach; one stepson, Clifford Pugh, Norwalk; two stepdaughters, Karen Stanford, state of  Oklahoma, and Sharon Sorensen, Downey, Calif.; two brothers, Walter West, Orange County, Calif., and Jimmy West, Buena Park, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery, Laurie. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ozark Baptist Church near Laurie. The Rev. Morsey Saunders will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

TALKEN

Gregory John Talken, 73,  Jefferson City, died Sept. 30, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Feb. 25, 1926, in  Jefferson City, a son of Hugo H. and Hilda Bruns Talken. He was married Dec. 28, 1946, in Reims, France, to Lea Marie Prada, who survives in Westphalia.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was employed in landscape design at Busch's Florist and Greenhouse from 1961 to 1964.

He worked at Popp's Lawn and Garden Center from 1964 until his retirement in 1991.

He farmed near Taos.

He also is survived by one sister, Rose Marie Perry,  Jefferson City.

One infant son preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Taos.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a rosary at 4 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Vitae Society.

CREVELT

John T. Crevelt, 77, Redwood City, Calif., formerly of  Jefferson City, died Sept. 26, 1999.

He was born Aug. 14, 1922, a son of Henry and Almeda Brinnegar Crevelt. He was married in 1952 to Audrey Stanford, who survives at the home.

He graduated from St. Peters High School in  Jefferson City in 1940, and attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City and the University of California-Berkeley. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked for the Glastic Corporation and was involved youth sports.

Other survivors include: five sons, three daughters, two brothers, one sister and 12 grandchildren.

Services were Thursday at St. Pius Catholic Church, Redwood City.

Memorials are suggested to Christian Encounter Ministries, P.O. Box 1022, Grass Valley, Calif., 95945; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements were under the direction of Crippen & Flynn Chapel, Redwood City.

HOPKINS

G. Cecil Hopkins, 93, Camdenton, died Oct. 1, 1999, at Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital.

He was born Aug. 5, 1906, in Camden County, a son of Everett and Hattie Bangert Hopkins. He was married May 4, 1934, in Camdenton, to Dorothy L. Allen, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of the Lake area, he owned Hopkins Lumber Company and was a farmer. He had served as county surveyor. He was a member of Linn Creek Baptist Church.

Other survivors include: one son, James Hopkins, Wildwood; one daughter, Janet Barnes, Camdenton; two brothers, Roscoe Hopkins, Lebanon, and Edward Hopkins, Climax Springs; one sister, Maudine Randolph, Centralia; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Allee-Reed Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Ginnings will officiate. Burial will be in Conway Cemetery, Osage Beach.

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday.
