SANDRA A. DILLON

Sandra Ann Novak Dillon, 48, Independence, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Dillon was born Feb. 21, 1950, in Independence, and lived in Sedalia, Mo., from 1984 until returning to Independence in 1991. She had been a kindergarten teacher for Sedalia School District 200, and was a member of the National Education Association and the National Association of Retired Teachers. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Independence Chapter 329.

Her survivors include a son, Scott Phillip Novak Dillon of the home; her parents, Arlene and Bob Gowin, Independence; four brothers, Charles Novak, Kansas City, and Mark Novak, Paul Novak and Gary Gowin, all of Independence; four sisters, Laura Sheehy, Gina Gowin and Gayla Belk, all of Independence, and Marla Thompson, Leawood, Kan.; several nieces; and one great-niece.

Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Scott Phillip Novak Dillion Trust Fund, in care of the Commerce Bank of Independence, the Masonic Home or St. Luke`s Shawnee Mission Hospice program.

JANE A. GAUDUTIS

Jane A. Gaudutis, 50, Odessa, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mrs. Gaudutis was born July 5, 1947, in Pittsburg, Kan., and had lived in Odessa since 1982. She was a 1965 graduate of St. Mary`s-Colgan High School, Pittsburg, and a 1967 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing, Fort Scott, Kan. She did post graduate work in nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center, St. Luke`s Hospital, Research Medical Center and Bethany Hospital. Her memberships and recognitions include the Confirmation Ministry, St. George`s Catholic Church, Odessa; 1985, the Bishop Recognition for Church Service in Youth Ministry, Kansas City Diocese; 1994, The Odessan "Lafayette County People"; 1996-1998, volunteer, Cancer Hot Line, R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation, Kansas City; 1970, Kansas State Counsel of Practice _ American Nurses Assoc., Statewide coordinator for educational programs regarding new laws. She was head nurse, ICU/CCU at Mount Carmel Medical Center, Pittsburg, from 1968 to 1975; was clinical instructor at the KC VoTech School in Kansas City from 1978 to 1980; Director of Nursing, Truman Neurological Center, Kansas City, from 1994-1996; and was clinical instructor for Lex-La-Ray VoTech School from 1996-1997.

Her survivors include her husband, Paul Gaudutis, a son, Joe Gaudutis, and two daughters, Christi and Katie Gaudutis, all of the home; and four sisters, Jean Falke, Odessa, Mary Jo Homolka, Farmington, N.M., Joyce Feder, Stilwell, Kan., and Linda Collar, Pittsburg.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Greenton cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 9 tonight at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa, where the rosary will be said at 6 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Cancer Hotline, R.A. Bloch Cancer Foundation, Kansas City.

CAROLYN P. JENKINS

Carolyn Pearl Jenkins, 84, Independence, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Jenkins was born Oct. 1, 1913, in King City, Mo., and had lived in this area since 1938. She was a secretary for the Kansas City School District for many years, retiring in 1975. She was active in the PEO, CWF, Koinonia, and the American Legion. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence. Her husband, Marvin Jenkins died in 1990.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Larry Marvin and Judy Jenkins, Springfield, Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol Jane and Jim Sterner, Lawson, Mo.; a sister, Doris Taylor Best, Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Larry Jenkins Jr., Robin Nield, Jean Ratcliff, Melissa Sterner and Jim B. Sterner; and three great-grandchildren, Austin Ratcliff, Conner Ratcliff and Hunter Johnn Nield.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

BIANTHA C. MARTIN

Biantha C. Martin, 78, Independence, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Martin was born Nov. 14, 1919, in Guymon, Okla., and had lived in Independence for 40 years. She worked at Ben Franklin in Englewood. She was a member of Mount Washington United Methodist Church. Her husband, Jay F. Martin, died in 1992.

Her survivors include two sons, Bill Martin and Larry Martin, both of Independence; two daughters, Jonette Lee, Olathe, Kan., Connie O`Donnell, Lee`s Summit, and Kathy Wardle, Grain Valley; a brother, Bob Rathgeber, Kiowa, Kan.; two sisters, Christine Corr, Alva, Okla., and Patt Patterson, Woodward, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

BEULAH STERRETT

Beulah Sterrett, 100, Independence, died Saturday, May 8, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Miss Sterrett was born May 20, 1897, in Pleasant Grove, Utah, and had lived in this area most of her life. She worked for Kimport Dolls for many years. She was a member of the RLDS Church and attended the Stone Church congregation.

Her survivors include four nieces, Betty Crow and Margaret Baker, both of Independence, Mary Sibbetts, Wayan, Idaho, and Lorraine de la Fuente, Seattle; four nephews, Robert Crow, Independence, Wendel Crow, Pleasant, Kan., Orville Crow, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Leslie Whittemore, Denver; and many great-nieces and nephews, including Judy Whittemore, Bonnie Douglas and Dan Whittemore.

Graveside services were today at Mound Grove cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Stone Church Endowment Fund.

JUANITA M. STODDARD

Juanita Mary Stoddard, 77, Independence, died Friday, May 8, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Stoddard was born in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. She was a grain miller for General Mills for 41 years, retiring in 1982, and was a member of the Grain Millers Union. She was a member of the American Legion and St. Ann`s Catholic Church.

Her survivors include a sister, Mary Caroline Jones, Lakewood, Colo.; eight nieces; and four nephews.

Services were today at the church. Burial was in Orient cemetery, Harrisonville, Mo. Arrangements were under the direction of the Speaks Surburban Chapel.

JAMES A. WATERS

James Alvis Waters, 82, Independence, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Waters was born in Kansas City, Kan. He was an electrical technician for KCP&L for almost 40 years. He was a member of the Fairmount Christian Church, Blue Ridge Bible Church and the Pleasant Grove Bible Church. He was a chief electricians mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

His survivors include his wife, Lucille Waters of the home; a daughter, Beverly Hilty, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; a brother, J.B. Waters, Eldon, Mo.; two sisters, Crystall, Hall, Ariz., and Carolyn Pebbles, Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City.

ERMA ADAMS

Erma Adams, 73, Maryville, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Adams was born July 17, 1925, in New Point, Mo. She was a 1943 graduate of Oregon (Mo.) High School. She served as director of Volunteer Action Center for 13 years in Maryville. She was a member of St. Gregory`s Parish, Maryville, and past president of a VFW Auxiliary. She was a member and past president of Eagle`s Auxiliary and a member of James Edward Gray American Legion Auxiliary and the Garden Club, all of Maryville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Adams on Jan. 30, 1994.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Galeon George and Rebecca Campbell, Hales Corners, Wis.; three stepsons, Glen Adams, Pleasant Hill, Mo., Larry Adams, Independence, and Billy Adams, Urich, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Garrett, Collins, Mo., and Diana Evans, Independence; two sisters, Edith Frey, Oskoloosa, Iowa, and Betty Ann McComb, Oregon, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Gregory`s Catholic Church, Maryville. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Oregon. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Erma Adams Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Price Funeral Home, Inc., 120 East First St., Maryville.

MARJORIE A. BANDLOW

Marjorie A. Bandlow, 78, Independence, died on Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Bandlow was born April 3, 1920, in Des Moines, Iowa, and had lived in Independence for more than 55 years. She was the owner and operator of Knitcraft Inc., of Independence for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Independence Young Matrons, the Independence Square Association, the Knife and Fork Club, the General Womens Council of the RLDS Church and the Pleasant Heights congregation of the RLDS Church.

Her survivors include her husband of 51 years, Earl Bandlow, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kathy Bandlow, Independence; a daughter and son-in-law, Janis B. and John Davis, Independence; a foster-daughter, LaDonna Hohlstein, Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Marian R. ad Blair Wildermuth, Independence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Entombment will be in Mound Grove Mausoleum. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Graceland College Scholarship Fund or the American Cancer Society.

REBECCA L. DeFORREST

Rebecca L. DeForrest, 42, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at the Morgan Manor Group Home, Independence.

She was born March 18, 1956, in Atchison, Kan. She had been employed at Alphapointe Inc. for seven years. She attended the RLDS Special Ministries Church.

She is survived by many friends of the home.

Memorial services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Manor Group Home, 9515 East 32nd St., Independence. Crematin ad other arrangements are under the direction of Morticians Service, Kansas City.

ARCHIE "WHITEY" JOHNSON

Archie "Whitey" Johnson, 91, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at his home.

He was born Oct. 21, 1907, in Vernon County, Wis. He retired from the General Motors Leeds Plant in 1963 after 38 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 1000, the American Legion Post No. 499, the Military Order of Cooties in Independence, the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3717 and the Moose Lodge No. 10 in Sugar Creek.

His survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary E. Johnson, of the home; a son, Clint Johnson, Raytown; one grandson, Rodney D. Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. on Monday at George C. Carsons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

GERALD A. RAMSEY

Gerald A. Ramsey, 48, Kansas City, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Ramsey was born Sept. 8, 1950, in Kansas City. He had worked in sales for Total Services. He was a member of St. Mark`s Catholic Church.

His survivors include his wife, Gail T. Ramsey of the home; two sons, Gerald A. Ramsey Jr., and Steven R. Ramsey, both of St. Louis; his mother, Dora Ramsey, Independence; two brothers, Jim Ramsey and Bob Ramsey, both of Leawood, Kan.; a sister, Connie Derry, Newport Beach, Calif.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mark`s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, where a prayer service will be at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.

BESSIE M. SCOTT

Bessie Marie Scott, 95, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at St. Joseph Health Center, Kansas City.

Mrs. Scott was born Sept. 30, 1903, in Kansas City, and had lived in the Independence and Blue Springs area for most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Scott on March 3, 1972.

She is survived by a niece, Naomi Scott, Overland Park, Kan.

Cremation is under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel, with burial in Mount Washington cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Pleasant Grove Bible Church, 4916 Lee`s Summit Road, Kansas City, Mo. 64136.

DOLORES E. "DEE" YOCUM

Dolores E. "Dee" Yocum, 77, Independence, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999.

Mrs. Yocum was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Tulsa, Okla. She had lived in Independence since 1951. She was a member of the Queen City Bowling Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion F. Yocum, in November 1998.

Her survivors include three sons, David Yocum, Pleasant Hill, Mo., Dennis Yocum, Lake Lotawana, and Donald Yocum, Independence; a daughter, Doris Eagan, Lone Jack, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at George C. Carsons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery in Kansas City. Friends may call the chapel on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

GEORGE T. LINSEY

George T. Linsey, 79, Kansas City, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

Mr. Linsey was born Nov. 4, 1929, in Reading, Kan., and had lived in this area since 1949. He retired from Certainteed Roofing Products after 36 years of service. He had been active in Scouting for Troop 428 and was a member of the Tribe of

Mic-O-Say. He was a member of East Gate Masonic Lodge 630, Scottish Rite, Ararat Shrine and the Provost unit of the Shrine.

His survivors include one daughter, Linda Kendall, Kansas City Kan.; three sons, Amos Linsey, Independence, and Stanley Oplotnik and Rudy Oplotnick, both of Kansas City; one brother, Dean Linsey, Silver Lake, Kan.; two sisters, Leona Parre, Osage City, Kan., and Henrietta Henderson, Topeka; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Alpine cemetery, Olivet, Kan. Friends may call from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m.
