RUBY M. STARK

Ruby May Stark, 74, Independence, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at Truman Medical Center-East.

Mrs. Stark was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Stark, a son, Kenny Guth, and a grandson, Jeremy Clinkenbeard.

Her survivors include a daughter, Nancy Clinkenbeard, Independence; three grandchildren, Michelle Pileggi, and David O. and Mindy Clinkenbeard; and three great-grandchildren, Megan Pileggi, and Kyle and Kristen Clinkenbeard.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be at Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

LUELLA J. BURTON

Luella Josephine Burton, 93, Independence, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Burton was born Jan. 9, 1905, in Brunswick, Mo. She was a member of East Gate Order of Eastern Star 367, Trinity Presbyterian Church and United Auto Workers Local 93 Retirees Club.

Her survivors include a son, James V. Burton, Pensacola, Fla.; two grandchildren, James Louis Burton and Bonnie McGregor; two nephews, James M. Strong and Charles C. Garvin; a niece, Joann Mallett; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1400 W. Sheley Road, Independence.

PAUL A. FLANAGAN

Paul A. Flanagan, 87, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 1998, at the Monterey Park Care Center.

Mr. Flanagan was born Nov. 26, 1910, in Independence. He was an insurance agent and real estate broker in Independence, and a former president of the Engelwood Business Association. He was a member and deacon emeritus of the First Baptist Church of Independence. He attended William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, and the Chillicothe (Mo.) Business College. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Tirey J. Ford American Legion Post 21. He was a former member of the Inter-City Kiwanis, had served as a Boy Scout leader and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

His survivors include his wife, Frances Teller Flanagan of the home; a daughter, Paula Medina, Charlotte, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, George A. and Lyndia Flanagan, Lee's Summit; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Independence. Private burial will be at the National cemetery in Leavenworth, Kan. The family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church of Independence or Cornerstone Baptist Church of Lee's Summit. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel.

CARMEN C. HANDLEY

Carmen C. Handley, 86, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at the Regency Care Center.

Mrs. Handley was born Dec. 14, 1911, in Kansas City. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Kansas City Art Association, winning several 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for her art work. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Handley in 1990, and a grandson in 1997.

Her survivors include three daughters, Patricia Green, Kansas City, Kathleen Hubler, Independence, and Peggy Hobbs, Sugar Creek; two brothers, Art McCarty, St. Charles, Mo., and Pete McCarty, Pueblo, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

WILLIAM O. RILEY

William O. Riley, 55, Lee's Summit, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Riley was born May 30, 1943, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. He was ranger for Jackson County and a part-time police chief at Lafayette Lake. He was retired from the Raytown Police Department and had served as an Emergency Preparedness coordinator. He was active in the Air Force for more than 22 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Riley, on Sept. 13, 1991.

His survivors include his wife, Carlyn Riley, and a son, Mark Riley, both of the home; a daughter, Kimberly Edmonsond, Blue Springs; his parents, Donald A. Riley and Oneta Riley of Carthage, Mo.; two brothers, David Riley, Belton, Mo., and Steve Riley, Kentucky; five granddaughters, Brittany and Alexandra Edmonsond, both of Blue Springs, and Brigette, Megan and Amanda Riley, all of the home; and an aunt, Betty Yates, North Kansas City.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Southview Baptist Church, 8015 Sterling, Raytown. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the church. The family suggests contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner.

MINNIE E. STANLEY

Minnie E. Stanley, 90, Louisburg, Kan., formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at the Louisburg Care Center.

Mrs. Stanley was born Dec. 11, 1907, in Carroll County, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area for 55 years before moving to Louisburg three years ago. She was a member of Mount Washington Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Ann in 1932, and one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Her survivors include two sons, Billy Scott Stanley, Shell Knob, Mo., and Charles Keith Stanley, Lone Jack; two daughters, Nancy Winters, Amsterdam, Mo., and Doris Jean Hardin, Carrollton, Mo.; three sisters, Olivena Brock, Hale, Mo., Ruth Miller, Norborne, Mo., and Genie O'Neal, Ruston, La.; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the McCroskie Creek Baptist Church, Carrollton, Mo. Burial will be in the McCroskie Creek cemetery, Carrollton. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Mount Washington Baptist Church.

GREGORY W. WOODS

Gregory Wallace Woods, 50, Sugar Creek, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998.

Mr. Woods was born in Willmar, Minn., and had lived in the Independence area since 1954. He graduated from Fort Osage High School in 1965. He had been a police officer with the Independence Police Department since 1979. He had previously been an officer with Jackson County and Dade County, Fla. He had been a Master Sergeant in the Marines and had served and was wounded in Vietnam. His military awards include the Navy Unit Commendation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Meritorious Commendation Medal with one Palm, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He had been a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America and had been a Boy Scout leader since 1981 and had earlier been a Cub Scout Master. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was baptized in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Church of Latter Day Saints and was a deacon in the church. He was also a member and deacon at the Pleasant View Christian Church in Independence.

His survivors include a son, Timothy Wallace Woods, Raytown; two daughters, Diana Sue Molzahn, Lee's Summit, and Wendy Lynette Woods, Kansas City; his parents, Wilbur Wallace and Gloria Jean Woods, Independence; two brothers, Thomas Allen Woods, Roseburg, Ore., and Gary Lee Woods, Independence; two sisters, Nancy Beth Goans, Independence, and Barbara Jean Garrison, Shawnee, Kan.; and seven grandchildren, Cheyenna, Tierney, Christopher, Leah, Courtney, Andrew and Hunter.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Fraternal Order of Police, Gregory Woods Memorial Fund, 18300 E. Missouri 78, Independence, Mo. 64057.

HAZEL P. YORK

Hazel Pearl York, 90, Platte City, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Hillview Nursing and Rehab Center, Platte City, Mo.

Mrs. York was born June 1, 1908, in Independence, and had lived most of her life in Independence. She had been comptometer operator for 20 years for Commonwealth Theaters until retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Walnut Park RLDS Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Wendel York in 1980.

Her survivors include a daughter, Sue Williams, Kansas City; a brother, Gordon Smith, Independence; and a grandson, Kelly Michael Williams.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Private burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Hillview Nursing and Rehab Center, 220 O'Rourke, Platte City, Mo. 64079.

CAROLYN E. "SIS" CHIAMINTO

Carolyn E. "Sis" Chiaminto, 67, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Chiaminto was born May 22, 1931, in Bronx, N.Y. She was a mail room supervisor at Opportunities Unlimited in North Kansas City.

Her survivors include her husband, Victor Chiaminto of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, William Lee and Margaret Accomando, Blue Springs, Jesse E. and Pat Foster, Raytown, and Leroy J. and Mary Foster, Houston, Texas; four brothers, Floyd C. Anderson, Floyd H. Anderson and Joseph Lampone, all of Kansas City, and William T. Gunn, Bellerose Manor, N.Y.; two sisters, Virginia Larkins, Blue Springs, and Ella Rose Oden, Pleasant Hill and four grandchildren, Ryan Victor Accomando, Christine Foster, Jeremy David Foster and Justin Perkins.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Burial will be in Blue Springs. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 and 8 p.m. Saturday at Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family suggests contributions to the ALS-Keith Worthington Chapter.

LAWRENCE N. FRANKLIN

Lawrence N. Franklin, 77, Independence, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at his daughter`s home in Blue Springs.

Mr. Franklin was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Long Lane, Mo., and had lived in Independence for the past 42 years. He retired in 1986 from the Ford Motor Co. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, VFW Post 1000 and the Knights of Columbus 4th degree. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and had been awarded the Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Patricia Franklin in 1994.

His survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth A. and Rod Adams, Blue Springs, and Jeannie and Joe Chop, Sioux City, Iowa; a brother, Ralph Franklin, Olathe, Kan.; a sister, Norma Cordell, Bartlesville, Okla.; a granddaughter, Lindsey Lee Adams; and four grandsons, Zachary S. Adams, David Chop, Tom Chop and Keith Chop.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kan. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, where a poppy service will be at 7 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Gift of Hope Hospice Fund, in care of the Truman Heartland Founds, 300 N. Osage, Independence, Mo. 64050.

KENNETH D. "D.J." NELSON JR.

Kenneth D. "D.J." Nelson Jr., 19, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, in Blue Springs.

Mr. Nelson was born Aug. 10, 1978, in Kansas City. He was employed as an automotive mechanic.

His survivors include his parents, Marilyn H. Nelson, Blue Springs, and Kenneth D. Nelson Sr., Harrisonville, Mo.; a sister, Debra D. Smith, Blue Springs; and a brother, Troy D. Freeman, Atlanta, Ga.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kenneth D. Nelson Memorial Fund, 713 N.W. Camelot Place, Blue Springs, Mo. 64105.

EMMA PACK

Emma Pack, 96, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

She was born Oct. 19, 1901, in Independence and was raised in Blue Springs. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs.

Her survivors include two nieces, Sally Meyers, Blue Springs, and Judy Weyrauch, Dallas, Texas; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Services were today at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial was in Blue Springs cemetery.

CHRISTOPHER S. MANESS

Christopher Steele Maness, 2, Richmond, Mo., died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City.

Christopher Steele was born Nov. 7, 1995, in Kansas City.

His survivors include his parents, James and Denise Maness, a brother, Joshua, and a sister, Krislyn, all of the home; maternal grandparents, Roy and Linda Blassingame, Blue Springs; paternal grandparents, Harold and Sandy Maness, DeSoto, Mo.; great grandmothers, Marie Goodwin and Hilda Maness, DeSoto; aunts and uncles, Jeff Brand, Debbie and Jeff Young, Greg and Lisa Brand, Joseph and Patty Maness; great aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leonard E. Brand.

Services were Oct. 3, 1998, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home, Glasgow, Mo. Burial was in the Washington cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family's choice.

PETE "PETER" BENGE

Pete "Peter" Benge, 48, Kansas City, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998.

His survivors include a son, Christopher Benge, Kansas City; two stepdaugthers, Tamera Bueno, Blue Springs, and Pamela Crane, Grain Valley; his mother, Alice Renyer Benge, Zionsville, Ind.; three brothers, Buck Benge, Foundation City, Ind., Samuel Benge, Morehead, N.C., and Donald Benge, Batesville, Ind.; two sisters, Margaret Selkirk, Richmond, Ind., and Mary Ann Langdon, Liberty, Ind.; and three granddaughters, Magdalene Benge, Martha Lewis and Monica Ripberger.

Graveside services will be noon Friday at Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to the Epilepsy Foundation for the Heart of America.

JAMES C. "JIMMY" ADDEN

James Charles "Jimmy" Adden, 33, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at the Kansas University Medical Center.

Mr. Adden was born May 15, 1965, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. He was a carpenter by trade for Miller's Contract and Supply. His talent is shown in the detail work on the cabinetry in the Station Casino. He was a 1983 graduate of William Chrisman High School, where he was active in all sports.

His survivors include his wife, Denise Adden; two stepchildren, Jennifer Overton and Bradley Overton; his parents, Orville and Bonnie Adden; a brother, Ed Adden; five nieces; four nephews; four great-nieces; and seven great-nephews.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the ALS Keith Worthington Foundation, 8340 Mission Road, Suite B-4, Prairie Village, Kan. 66206.

DONALD "WAYNE" McCOY

Donald "Wayne" McCoy, 72, Topeka, formerly of this area, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at a hospital in Topeka.

Mr. McCoy was born Dec. 29, 1925, in Battle Creek, Mich., and had lived in Topeka since 1976. He retired from Allis Chalmers in 1985. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion in Blue Springs. He was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church, Topeka.

His survivors include his wife, Valerie Bryant McCoy of the home; two sons, Charles McCoy, Wichita, Kan., and Wilfred McCoy, Topeka; a stepson, Harold Huff, Ashland, Mo.; two brothers, Wilfred A. McCoy, Sidney, Ohio, and Charles E. McCoy, Battle Creek; two sisters, Jean L. Lutz and June L. Ward, both of Delton, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren.

Services and burial were in Topeka.
