MARY CLARICE STEYAERT

Mary Clarice Steyaert, 82, Independence, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Steyaert was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Wrigley, Ky. and lived in Independence since 1976. She was a homemaker, a chater member of the Country Meadows Baptist Church and served in the church nursery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis J. Steyaert, in 1972, and a daughter, Gail Lisette Reichart, in 1996. Her survivors include three sons, Louis T. Steyaert, Bethseda, Md., Roger J. Steyaert, Lee`s Summit, and David J. Steyaert, Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Joyce Brown, Independence, and Jane Sekulic, Round Lake, Ill.; one sister, Frances L. Evans, Polo., Mo.; five grandsons and four granddaughters.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Country Meadows Baptist Church, Lee`s Summit. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Country Meadows Church Building Fund or the American Heart Association.

SUDIE F. DODSON

Sudie Frances Dodson, 92, Blue Springs, died Monday, May 18, 1998, at the Monterey Park Nursing Center.

Mrs. Dodson was born Feb. 10, 1906, in New Franklin, Mo. She was a supervisor of the filing department of McGraw Edison for 20 years, retiring in 1975. She was also a city clerk in New Franklin from 1975 to 1981. She taught Sunday school at the First Baptist churches in New Franklin and Blue Springs for a total of 53 years. Her husband, Edward L. Dodson, died in 1954.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Shirley and Maurine Dodson, Blue Springs; a brother, Robert H. Forbis, Harrisburg, Mo.; a sister, Dorothy D. Kamm, Stockton, Mo.; three grandchildren, Donna Sue McDonald, Douglas E. Dodson Sr. and Jill M. Wallace; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant cemetery, New Franklin. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs.

RUTH M.J. DYER

Ruth Mae Julia Willoughby Dyer, 66, Independence, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Dyer was born April 15, 1932, in Independence. She worked for AT&T (Western Electric) in Lee`s Summit for 27 years. She was a 1950 graduate of William Chrisman High School, and a member of the Heart of America Doll Club and the Blue Springs Restoration Branch.

Her survivors include her husband of 48 years, Samuel R. Dyer Jr. of the home; two sons, Sam R. Dyer III and Daniel J. Dyer, both of Independence; a daughter, Lynn C. Logan, Merriam, Kan.; five sisters, Grace Bradshaw, Helen Garrison and Erlene Hawkins, all of Independence, Ethel June Lohmeier, Kansas City, and Viola Mitchell, Shell Knob, Mo.; five grandchildren, Amy N. Dyer, Sara B. Emmons, Jennifer J. Fey, Kelly R. Logan and Kyle W. Logan; and one great-grandchild, Kylie Emmons.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 5555 Valley View Road, Blue Springs. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Blue Springs Restoration Branch, 5555 Valley View Road, Blue Springs, Mo. 64015.

MARJORIE A. LILE

Marjorie A. Lile, 82, Independence, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at the Independence Manor Care Center.

Mrs. Lile was born May 30, 1915, in Camden, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 57 years. She was retired from the Internal Revenue Service, and was a member of Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church. Her husband, Clarence Lile, died in 1983.

Her survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Ruth Lile, Parkville, Mo., and Ray and Sherry Lile, Warrensburg, Mo.; a daughter, Janis Hugunin, and a brother, Richard Stigall, both of Independence; a sister, Katheryn Blumm, Bates City; and five grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Independence Regional Health Center Hospice.

LAURA PFORTMILLER

Laura Pfortmiller, 86, Independence, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center.

Mrs. Pfortmiller was born April 20, 1912, in Gentry, Ark., and had lived in Independence since 1985. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Warren O. Pfortmiller, died in 1984.

Her survivors include two sons, Bob Pfortmiller, Harlingen, Texas, and Bill Pfortmiller, Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Betty Barber, Independence, and Twilla Pfortmiller and Susan Knipp, both of Kansas City; a brother, Luther Tramell, Lowell, Ark.; two sisters, Pearl Barker, Carthage, Mo., and Mary Hallman, Gentry; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Versailles (Mo.) City cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.

DONALD G. SIMPSON SR.

Donald Gene Simpson Sr., 63, Independence, died Friday, May 15, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Simpson was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Huntington, Pa.

His survivors include his wife, Beverly L. Simpson; three sons, Donald Gene Simpson Jr., David P. Simpson and George N. Simpson; three daughters, Linda M. Smith, Donna Jean Skeens and Beverly J. Buehler; a brother, James P. Simpson; a sister, Virginia Lewis; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Charter Funerals Blue Ridge Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Greater Kansas City Red Cross.

ROBERT N. SPERRY

Robert Nelson Sperry, 82, Independence, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Sperry was born March 1, 1916, in Greenwood, Mo., and had lived in this area most of his life. He worked on the assembly line at the General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1976, and was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was an active volunteer for the Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA), Boy Scouts of America and community recycling programs, and supported settlement of Laotian families in the Greater Kansas City area. He was an elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and attended the Beacon Heights congregation.

His survivors include his wife, Norine Sperry of the home; a stepson, Grant McMurray, and his wife, Joyce, Independence; a stepdaughter, Donna Sperry, and her husband, Lauren, Blue Springs; a brother, Charles Sperry, Independence; a sister, Harriet Green, Olathe, Kan.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey McMurray, Brian McMurray, Monica Sperry and Beth Sperry; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial services for family, friends and members of his congregation will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Beacon Heights RLDS Church, 19402 Holke Road. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Transformation 2000 Fund, RLDS World Church Headquarters, P.O. Box 1059, Independence, Mo. 64051.

HELEN R. WALTERS

Helen R. Walters, 85, Independence, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Walters was born Sept. 23, 1912, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was retired from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. She was a member of the Community Association of the Arts, Old Spring PAC, Queen of Hearts and the Blue Ridge Boulevard United Methodist Church. She was the past president of the William Chrisman and Thomas Hart Benton PTAs. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Walters in 1995, and a daughter-in-law, Linda Walters in 1994.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Elizabeth Walters, New Canaan, Conn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Lon Malott, Independence; six grandchildren, Beth Paul, Mike Malott, Bruce Walters, Lesley Jacobson, and Jonathan

and Amanda Walters; and seven great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Katie Paul, Hannah and Charlotte Walters, Samantha and Lindsey Jacobson, and Justin Williams.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel, or tonight at the family home. The family suggests contributions to your favorite charity.

EDWARD B. "BERT" WILSON

Edward B. "Bert" Wilson, 97, Raytown, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at the Hidden Lake Care Center.

Mr. Wilson was born May 1, 1901, in Elliott, Iowa, and moved to this area in 1984. He was a self-employed farmer in Iowa, a member of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

His survivors include a son-in-law, Chuck Hopper, Independence; four grandchildren, Janet Marie Kast, St. Charles, Mo., Geri Scott, Independence, William E. Wilson, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Teresa Reilly, Overland Park, Kan.; 13 great-grandchildren; a niece, Barbara Wilson; and a nephew, Dr. Robert Wilson.

Memorial services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Entombment will be in Waveland cemetery, Elliott. Friends may call from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the memorial fund at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sheil Colonial Chapel, Raytown.

GREGORY D. WRIGHT

Gregory Don Wright, 38, Lone Jack, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, May 17, 1998.

Mr. Wright was born June 2, 1960, in Independence. He has been a mill foreman for the Shutte Lumber Co. for the past 15 years, and was a member of Carpenters Union Local 1635.

His survivors include his wife, Susan A. Wright, a daughter, Tiffany A. Wright, and a son, Bradley A. Wright, all of the home; his parents, Alva Don and Mary Jo Wright, and a sister, Heather Malleck, all of Independence; maternal grandmother, Stella Hunt, Raytown; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomers` Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

RUTH IRENE ALLISON

Ruth Irene Allison, 77, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City.

Mrs. Allison was born July 19, 1920, in Independence and lived in Independence all her life. She worked at Bendix / Allied Signal for 17 years. She was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Allison, Sr. in 1993.

She is survived by two sons, Skip Alllison, Independence, and Bill Furney, Blue Springs; a daughter, Shirley Romans, Independence; and a sister, Becky Andrus, Chilhowee, Mo..

The visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home in Buckner, Mo. Services will be 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army.

JOHN M. BOYCE, M.D.

Dr. John M. Boyce, 65, Blue Springs, died Friday, May 22, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Dr. Boyce was born April 22, 1933, in St. Louis, Mo., and had lived in Blue Springs for the past two years. He worked as a Pathologist at the Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia, Mo., since 1987. He was a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and the College of American Pathologists. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sedalia, Mo. He was an Instructor in Pathology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, 1964-1965. He was cofounder of Boyce & Bynum Pathology Laboratories in 1965. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Claire Boyce Fariss in 1966.

His survivors include his wife, J. Darlyne Boyce of the home; four sons, James J. Boyce, Oak Grove, John M. Boyce and William W. Boyce, St. Louis, and Robert D. "Connor" Boyce, Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Ann E. O`Brien, Kansas City; a stepdaughter, Tamara J. Lock, Reeds Springs, Mo.; two sisters, Bette Miller, Kirkwood, Mo., and Susan Pensoneau, Ladue, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.

NED F. BURKETT

Ned F. Burkett, 54, Sugar Creek, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Burkett was born Aug. 26, 1943, in Shamokin, Pa., and lived in Sugar Creek most of his life. He worked at Missouri Gas Energy as a warehouse foreman. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3717.

His survivors include his wife, Veronica Novak Burkett of the home; a brother-in-law, Ron Novak, Sugar Creek; brother-in-law, Dennis Novak, Independence; sister-in-law, Donna Novak, Independence; and one niece and one nephew.

The visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at George C. Carson & Sons Chapel, Independence. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn cemetery, Independence. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

GLADYS N. CRAVEN

Gladys N. Craven, 85, Raytown, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at Hidden Lake Care Center.

Mrs. Craven was born April 17, 1913, in Mosby, Mo. She was a member of the Budd Park Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeeRoy Craven in 1992.

Her survivors include two sons, LeRoy Craven Jr., North Kansas City, and William Craven, Ozawkie, Kan.; three daughters, Pearl Decker, Kansas City, June Holland and Claudene Mattos, Independence; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sheil Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Laurel Hill cemetery, Weston, Mo.

ELSIE L. KNAPP MINTHORN

Elsie Leone Knapp Minthorn, 92, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at the Rosewood Care Center, Independence.

Mrs. Minthorn was born March 13, 1906, in Luther, Mich., and she also lived in Alberta, Canada, and spent 50 years of her adult life in the Kalispell, Mont., area. From 1970 to 1980 she and her husband were caretakers of the RLDS reunion grounds in Yacolt, Wash. She was a member of the RLDS Groves Church. She was a homemaker and a church and community volunteer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Minthorn in 1980.

Her survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Graham, Missoula, Mont., Neta Nelsen and Alta Stephens, both of Independence; a sister, Edith Olson, Selah, Wash.; eight grandchildren; 18

great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at The Groves Chapel in the White Oak Living Center, 1515 W. White Oak, Independence. Following the services, friends are welcome to join the family at Jack and Alta Stephen`s home in Independence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Temple Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 1059, Independence, Mo. 64051, or to Outreach International, P.O. Box 210, Independence, Mo. 64051.
