BYRNA M. ZERR

Byrna Marie Zerr, 84, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, in Independence.

Mrs. Zerr was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Kansas City, and had lived in Grain Valley before moving to Independence. She earned an associate`s degree from Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, and attended Kansas City Business College, became a steno typist and was later employed by KMBC radio station. Throughout her life she was active in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. From 1958 to 1964, she served as a member of the General Council Women for the RLDS Church. She was a news reporter for the Saints` Herald of Central Church, Kansas City. She authored numerous articles for the Saints` Herald and other church publications. She was a member of the first Golden Acres Ladies Sewing Circle Club, the Santa Fe Parliamentary Club and Mothers of Israel, Inc. She was a member of the Atherton Restoration Branch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Myron Zerr, and a son, Edward Arthur Zerr.

Her survivors include a son, Charles Harvey Zerr, and a sister, Eleanor D. Sandy, both of Independence; a brother, Harold D. Sandy, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Sheehy Zerr, Amy Rebecca Zerr and Ethan Charles Zerr.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hematology Research & Leukemia Fund, Hermatology Division, University of Kansas Medical Center, 3901 Rainbow, Kansas City, Kan. 66160-7233.

LORRILYNN M. WEEKS

Lorrilynn Marie Presler Weeks, 40, North Augusta, S.C., died Friday, July 25, 1997, in Seneca, S.C.

Mrs. Weeks was born Jan. 26, 1957, in Denver. She was a 1981 graduate of Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, and was a teacher in the Aiken County School District, North Augusta. She was an elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Her survivors include her husband of 19 years, George E. Weeks of North Augusta; two sons, Aaron Michael Weeks and Sean Christopher Weeks, and two daughters, Kristina Annette Weeks and Tiffany Lynn Weeks, all of the home; her parents, Francis V. Presler Jr., Independence, and L. Lorraine Harbison Bigley, Overland Park, Kan.; four brothers, Francis V. Presler III and Rexford L.S. Presler, both of Independence, Aaron L. Presler, Lake Lotawana, and Marcus L. Presler, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; and three sisters, Rebekah K. Troyer, Fort Collins, Colo., Wendy C. Presler, Lakewood, Colo., and Jennifer A. Mino, Overland Park.

Services were July 30 at the Napier Funeral Home Chapel, Graniteville, S.C. Burial was at Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville. Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the New Hope RLDS Church, 220 W.Moore St. The family suggests contributions to the Aiken Pregnancy Care Centerin Aiken, S.C.

KOREY D. HARRIS

Korey Devonne Harris, infant son of Quentin and Michelle Harris of Blue Springs, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital.

His survivors also include his paternal grandparents, Damon & Linda Harris III, Blue Springs; his maternal grandmother, Helen Simmons, Millerville, Ala.; and his paternal grandmothers, Hazel Harris, Monticello, Ariz., and Mae Catherine English, Helena, Ark.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Blue Springs cemetery.

GERALD O. LANE

Gerald Oliver "Tip"Lane, 69, Altoona, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Lane was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Andover, Mo. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1946 and discharged in 1947 after serving 18 months. He married Lois Heide on Sept. 10, 1950. He was a farmer for five years in Andover before moving to Lamoni, Iowa. He worked as a trucker hauling logs in 1954 and later worked for the Snethen`s Lamoni Livestock Co. He later hauled cars from Wisconsin to California and became self-employed hauling grain. In 1973, while maintaining his residence in Lamoni, he moved to Altoona. He was preceded in death by a sister, Donna.

His survivors include his wife, Lois, of Altoona; one son, Terry Lane, Bondurant, Iowa; one daughter, Sharon Griffin, Kansas City, Kan.; three brothers, Herman Lane, Wallace Lane and Ivan Lane; five grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at the RLDS Church in Lamoni. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Lamoni. Amemorial fund has been established by the family.

CAROLINE L. WHITE

Caroline L. White, 65, Independence, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at Carondelet Manor.

Mrs. White was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Salisburg, Mo., and lived most of her life in Independence. She was an elementary school teacher with the Kansas City School District for 20 years and was a real estate agent for Coldwell-Banker until she retired. She was a member of St. Paul`s United Methodist Church, the Independence Junior Service League, the PEO of Raytown and AAUW.

Her survivors include her husband, George M. White, of the home; one son, Randall White, Independence; a daughter, Deborah White, Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Charlotte A. Welborn, Baldwin, Kan., and two granddaughters.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Lupus Foundation.

ELSIE ALLEN

Elsie Allen, 87, of the Monterey Park Nursing Center, died Friday, April 4, 1997, at the nursing center.

Mrs. Allen was born April 16, 1910, in Chicago. She was a homemaker.

Her survivors include one daughter, Judy Taylor of Independence.

Graveside services were April 7 at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park Inc., Clearwater, Fla. Arrangements were under the direction of Lakeview Chapel, Blount Curry & Roel Funeral Home, Clearwater.

A. LOUISE BOWMAN

A.Louise Bowman, 78, Osage City, Kan., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, at the Health Care Center in Osage City.

Mrs. Bowman was born in Osborn, Mo., and lived in Maysville, Mo., Independence and Cameron, Mo., before moving to Osage City two years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Maysville RLDS congregation. She was preceded in death by her husband, James. L. Bowman in 1992, one son, John Bowman, and a grandson, Michael.

Her survivors include one son, James Bowman, Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Janice McAlexander, Scranton, Kan.; three sisters, Minnie Groebe, Cameron, Mabel Hicks, West Covino, Calif., and Wilma Sweiger, Weatherby, Mo.; and five grandchildren. Graveside services will be 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at Graceland cemetery, Cameron. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. The family suggests contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

RONALD M. COLTER

Ronald Milton Colter of Sugar Creek died Saturday April 12, 1997, at Edgewood Manor in Raytown.

Mr. Colter was born May 15, 1926, in Wyaconda, Mo., and was a graduate of Wyaconda High School. After graduation he began his apprenticeship with the Santa Fe Railroad in Wyaconda, was later sent to Streeter, Ill., as a station agent and then worked for the Kansas City Terminal Railroad for more than 20 years. He received his bachelor`s degree in economics and business from William Jewell College, Liberty, and his master`s degree in business and accounting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He was comptroller for Pan Handle Eastern Pipe Line, the Mid-America Regional Council, Office of Economic Opportunity and Mobil-Fone. He was an early morning service greeter and usher for Trinity Episcopal Church in Independence for more than 10 years.

His survivors include one son, William Grant Colter, and his former wife, Peggy Colter, both of Independence; one brother, Jacob Robert, St. Louis; five nieces and nephews; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wyaconda Christian Church. Burial will be in Wyaconda cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gerth Funeral Home, Memphis, Mo.

CHARLES L. ECKINGER

Charles L. Eckinger, 82, Independence, died Thursday, April 10, 1997, at The Groves.

Mr. Eckinger was born Sept. 1, 1914, in Garden City, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 50 years. He retired from the Ford Motor Co. after 38 years of service and was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. His wife, Clara Eckinger, died in 1977.

His survivors include one daughter, Linda C. Eckinger, Independence; one son, Charles R. Eckinger, Aurora, Colo.; one sister, Eula E. Lewis, Kansas City; two grandchildren;and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Carson Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

FRANK A. MANIERI

Frank A. Manieri, 55, Independence, died Monday, April 10, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Manieri was born March 18, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio. He worked security (Secret Service) for the White House. He owned Katchum Security, Marshalltown, Iowa, and was assistant police chief in Tama, Iowa. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 21. He was an Army and Navy veteran and a sergeant in theArmy Reserves.

His survivors include his wife, Geraldine "Geri" Manieri of the home; four sons, George Manieri, Kansas City, James Manieri and Christopher Manieri, both of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Frank Manieri Jr., Sugar Creek; a brother, William Manieri, Willowick, Ohio; his stepmother, Sophia Manieri, Cleveland; four stepchildren; four grandchildren; and eight step grandchildren.

Graveside services were today at the Leavenworth National cemetery, Leavenworth, Kan. The family suggests contributions to the Hossana Chapel, 19th and Hawthorne, Independence, Mo. Arrangements were under the direction of Park Lawn Funeral Home.

JAMES R. McDANIEL

James R. McDaniel, 76, Independence, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. McDaniel was born May 5, 1920, in Randolph County, Mo. He was owner of McDaniel Service Station in the Greater Kansas City area for more than 35 years. He was a World War II veteran in the 3rd Division of the Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific Campaign, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3976 in Sugar Creek and American Legion Post 21 in Independence. He was also a member of Eastgate Lodge 630 A.F.&A.M., Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Ararat Temple in Kansas City, the Jackson County Shriners Club, where he was treasurer for 10 years, the National Rifle Association and Quail Unlimited.

His survivors include his wife of 44 years, Jan McDaniel of the home; one son, Michael A. McDaniel, Independence; one daughter, Marsha Gerry, Aztec, N.M.; and five granddaughters. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Salem Funeral Home. Burial will be in New Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Parkinson Association of Greater Kansas City, 7808 Foster, Overland Park, Kan. 66204, or the American Cancer Society.

JOSEPH S. MOORE

Joseph Sehnert Moore, 64, Independence, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at St. Mary`s Manor in Blue Springs. Mr. Moore was born March 21, 1933, in Ash Grove, Mo., and had lived in Mount Vernon, Mo. He worked for Swift & Co. for 13 years, beginning in sales and then buying lambs at the Kansas City Stockyards. From 1970 to 1992, he worked in sales with the Missouri Portland Cement Co., which later was acquired by the Lafarge Corp. He was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and a 1955 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, with a bachelor`s degree in agriculture.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Independence and was an ordained deacon of Susquehanna Baptist Church. For many years he held membership in MSHSAA and officiated many sports, beginning with church league games and running the gamut to a state high school football playoff game. He had been active in the Kansas City Quarterback Club for Missouri University, the Missouri Alumni Association, and had previously served as president of the aggregate division of both Missouri and Kansas Concrete associations. He was a member of the Fort Osage School Board of Education from 1977 to 1984, served a term as its president and was honored as a Pioneer in Education in 1995. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne.

His survivors include his wife, Waunita Moore, and a daughter, Jeanne, both of Independence; two sons, Joseph Craig Moore, St. Joseph, Mo., and Steven Riley Moore, Odessa; his father, Joseph Clayton Moore, Mount Vernon; one sister, Mary Kathryn Peterson, Marshall, Mo.; one brother, John Harrison Moore, Springfield, Mo.; and seven grandchildren, Brandi Suzanne Moore, Michael James Moore, Clayton Riley Moore, Joseph Lear Moore, Cameron Craig Moore, Joanne Kathryn Moore and Joseph Kyle Moore.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the International Order of Odd Fellows cemetery in Mount Vernon. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the College of Agriculture at the University of Missouri.

ALVIN H. SEHRT

Alvin H. Sehrt, 77, Independence, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. Mr. Sehrt was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Levasy and had lived in Independence since 1945. He was an assembler/lead man for the Vendo Corp. for 274 years, then was a glass unloader for seven years for the Lipton Tea Co., retiring in 1985. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as a B-17 aerial gunner in the European Theater. He received the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Good Conduct Medal and the "Distinguished Flying Cross." He was a member of the St. Luke`s United Church of Christ in Independence, the Men`s Fellowship at the church, the Knife and Fork Club of Independence, Sermon Center Pinochle Club of Independence, United Steel Workers Union Local 4803 and Teamsters Local838.

His survivors include his wife, Ella Marie Sehrt of the home; one son, Melvin L. Sehrt, and one daughter, Marita S. Ray, both of Independence; two sisters, Marie Vance, Independence, and Verna Barnhill, Atascadero, Calif.; three grandchildren, Allen Sehrt, Janet Short and Julie Sehrt; one great-grandson; and two step great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Memorial Fund at St. Luke`s United Church of Christ, 727 N. Main St., Independence, Mo.

MADALYN L. TANNER

Madalyn Lyndon Tanner, 84, Independence, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, atthe Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Tanner was born on March 14, 1913, in Kansas City, and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a graduate of Sullens College in Bristol, Va. She worked at the Quartermaster Depot in Oakland, Calif., during World War II, and was a medical secretary for 20 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Semper Fidelis Club, Chi Chonnel Club, and the Christian Women`s Fellowship. She was a long-time member of the Community Christian Church of Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Tanner.

Her survivors include one daughter, Linda Brockelman, and two grandsons, Aaron Brockelman and Jason Brockelman, all the home; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer`s Association.

STELLA M. VUN CANNON

Stella M. Vun Cannon, 89, Independence, died Monday, April 14, 1997, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mrs. Vun Cannon was born May 7, 1907, in Jackson County and had lived in Independence most of her life. She worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant during the war and was a member of the Blue Springs Restoration Church. Her survivors include her husband, Carl W. Vun Cannon Sr. of the home; three sons, Thomas H. McKinney, Pebble Beach, Calif., Carl W. Vun Cannon Jr. of the home, and Michael D. Vun Cannon, Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Phillis Bailey, Odessa; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Private entombment. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

ROY M. WHITE

Roy M. White, 63, Independence, died Wednesday, April 9, 1997, at his home.

Mr. White was born March 20, 1934, in Lee`s Summit and was a lifelong area resident. He was an Army veteran of theKorean War.

Private services were held Monday at Mound Grove cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Noland Road Chapel.
