Farthing, Opal F.

Opal F. Farthing, age 72, of Independence, formerly of Versailles, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2005 at the Medical Center of Independence. She was born October 16, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of William A. and Fanchen Hymer Howser. Mrs. Farthing was a retired bookkeeper and formerly owned a ceramic shop in Versailles. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Marcia Dayton of Independence, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymon Howser and Douglas Howser. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 13, 2005 in the Versailles cemetery with Reverend Todd Forman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Fields Patricia

Patricia A. Fields, 62, Sunrise Beach, died March 1, 2003, at Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach. She was born May 18, 1940, in Polk County, Tenn., a daughter of John W. and Ruth Shelton Bates. She was married March 18, 1961, to Harold E. Fields, who survives at the home. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Sunrise Beach. Other survivors include: three sons, John W. Fields, Sunrise Beach, Robert Fields, Springfield, and Jesse Fields, Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Shelia Giles and Sonja Giles, both of Cleveland, Tenn.; one brother, William T. Bates, Cleveland, Tenn.; one sister, Nelleda Bates, Benton, Tenn.; and 10 grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie. Ray Powell will officiate. Burial will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery, Laurie. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Fletcher E. Sarah

Sarah E. Fletcher, age 91, of Versailles, formerly of Windsor, passed away Sunday morning, January 5, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born October 7, 1911 in Morgan County, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph H. and Mary L. Jobe Woods. She was united in marriage on April 26, 1934 in Kansas City, Kansas with Fred R. Fletcher who preceded her in death on September 7, 1991. Mrs. Fletcher was a mother and homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Windsor and while living in Versailles the past couple of years attended Family Worship Center in Versailles. She is survived by one son, Daniel Eugene Fletcher and wife Cindy, of Montrose, Colorado; one daughter, Lamona Mae Ray of Windsor; one brother, Edward Woods of Versailles; one sister, Buhlea Berkstresser of Crane; six grandchildren, Joshua Fletcher, Jacob Fletcher, Denise Solis, Donna Pargen, Brad Fletcher Kellog, and Julia Ann Theis; 8 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Fred Fletcher Jr., one daughter, Loretta E. Fletcher, one brother, Homer Woods, and three sisters, Rose Sousley, Ethel Collins and Annie Clark. Services were at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Danny Owsley officiating. Burial was in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers were Daniel Fletcher, Joshua Fletcher, Jacob Fletcher, Brent Dunnaway, Joe Owsley and Jeremy Owsley. Musical seletions were "On The Stormy Banks" and "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" Arrangements were under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Forbes Jeane Bonnie

Bonnie Jeane Forbes age 73, of Gravois Mills, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2005 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, Kansas. She was born, October 20, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Robert William and Emma Rose Straw McCracken. She was employed for many years at Adams Transfer and Storage in Kansas City, MO. She later retired from Acme Distribution as office manager. Bonnie loved the Lake of the Ozarks area and had made her home here after she had retired. Bonnie was a member of the Gravois Mills United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women. She is survived by her four sons, Mike Forbes and wife, Rusty, Steve Forbes and wife, Jo Ann, Carl Forbes and wife, Judy, and Bob Forbes and wife, Diane; six grandchildren, Matt, Sarah, Amanda, Shawn, Luke, and Zak Forbes, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 8, 2005 at the Gravois Mills United Methodist Church in Gravois Mills, with Reverend Ellen Hoff officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Friday at the church. Graveside services will be at 2:30 P.M. Friday at the Strasburg cemetery in Strasburg, Missouri. Friedly, Ada C.

Ada C. Friedly, age 88, of Versailles, passed away Thursday evening, July 14, 2005, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born June 2, 1917, in Morgan County, Missouri, the daughter of Conrad A. and Audrey Arnold Friedly. Ada spent most of her life caring for children and the elderly. She also spent some time as a Nurses Aide. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and writing poetry. But most of all, she loved children. She is survived by one sister, Ina Burton Cook and her husband Ray of the state of Arkansas; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 18, 2005, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Gary Petty officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Gideons International.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Fuller B. James

James B. Fuller, 75, Laurie, died Feb. 2, 2003, in Amarillo, Texas. He was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Kansas City, Kan., a son of Thomas and Marie Roth Fuller. He was married Oct. 16, 1964, in Great Bend, Kan., to Lila M. Rogers, who survives at the home. He was a graduate of Kansas State University majoring in accounting. He was city clerk of Ellinwood, Kan., for more than 20 years. He owned and operated Bay Ridge Resort near Sunrise Beach for 14 years. The resort gained honorable mention in Bon Apetite Magazine in 1993. He retired in 1991. He was a member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie. He was active in the Highway Five Association, was a volunteer firefighter, scout master, was a volunteer in local activities and city government. He was in the Naval Reserves and was a World War II veteran. Other survivors include: one son, Steven Fuller, Seattle; one daughter, Patrice Rush, Oklahoma City; two stepsons, Dr. Jim Rogers, Amarillo, Texas, and Rod Rogers, Salina, Kan.; three stepdaughters, Paula Rogers, Hoisington, Kan., Linnette Carlson, Rio Rancho, N.M., and Janelle Dreiling, Frisco, Texas; two brothers, Thomas Fuller, Dallas, Texas, and Dale Fuller, Corpus Christi, Texas; and seven grandchildren. One son, the Rev. Gregory Fuller, preceded him in death. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie. The Rev. James Lawley will officiate. Graveside services will be Saturday in Great Bend cemetery, Great Bend, Kan. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

DeVorss Evelyn

Evelyn DeVorss, age 75, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2003 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach. She was born June 22, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Seth and Lois Kuntz Phillips. She was united in marriage in 1946 to Warren DeVorss in Kansas City. Mrs. DeVorss retired from AT&T as a supervisor after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Drag and Threaders Club in Laurie, and loved to spend time with her grandchildren who she cherished. She is survived by her husband, Warren DeVorss of the home; son, Stephen DeVorss and wife, Brenda of Blue Springs, Missouri; one brother Robert Phillips of Kansas; one sister Carol Lawson of Camdenton; two grandchildren Susan and David DeVorss, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister Shirley Tripp. Memorial services will be at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie, with Reverend James Lawley officiating. Burial will be at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

DONALD LEE OYLER JR.

Donald Lee Oyler Jr., age 80, of Versailles, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, August 11, 2004 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born January 20, 1924 at St. Joseph, MO, the son of Donald L. and Daisy Jefferies Oyler. He married Pauline Rouse on May 30, 1948 in Darlington, MO. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and one sister. Don retired from the American Water Works in St. Joseph, MO in 1981. While in St. Joseph, he was director of the Little League Baseball Association for the city. He also was a member of the Planning and Zoning Committee for the City of St. Joseph. In 1982, after moving to the area, he went to work for the City of Versailles as their public works director. He also served as city councilman for the City of Versailles, was a member of the Planning and Zoning for Versailles, and as construction foreman for the Hometown Beautification Project which placed new sidewalks and lighting in Versailles. He and his wife were active in the Versailles Booster Club and ran the concession stand for four years at the Middle School. He was a member of the Gravois Mills United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Oyler of the home; children David and Jennifer Oyler of Golden, CO; Evva Lisenbee of Versailles; Carl and Joyce Oyler of St. Joseph, MO; Cindi and Gary Conway of Kimberling City, MO; Bill Oyler of St. Louis, MO; Paula and Bobby Calton of Lockhart, TX; Daniel and Halie Oyler of Temple, TX; and Karen Hargrove of Shawnee, KS, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 14, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Ellen Hoff and Rev. Robert Ross officiating. Interment will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to Gravois Mills United Methodist Church or Versailles Hometown Beautification Committee. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Dowell Frances Mary

Mary Frances Dowell, age 88, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, March 3, 2005 at the Life Care Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born January 6, 1917, in Excelsior, MO, the daughter of William Porter and Elva Victorene Gabriel O’Neal. She was united in marriage on February 4, 1941 with James Edward Dowell who preceded her in death on January 11, 1992. Mary and James moved from their forty- acre farm in Latham to Kansas City, Kansas in 1949. Mary was mainly a housewife, taking care of her family. She worked for a while at Midland Manufacturing after her children were older. After James’s death, Mary lived by herself at their home in Kansas City, Kansas. As her health and age took a toll on her, she spent the winters with each one of her daughters. Mary loved having her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren around her. She spent her time reading books; she loved to travel and most of all she tried not to miss watching KU basketball games on TV. Mary has had heart problems since 1996. She fell and broke her hip in February. She spent her last days in a nursing home about three miles from her home on Sloan. She is survived by three daughters, Mildred Berniece Lowe and husband Glover of Linn Valley, KS, Shirley Ann Owen of Shawnee, KS, and Betty Louise Lowe and husband Julius of Wheatland, MO; seven grandsons, Jim Lowe and wife Debbie of Thompson Station, TN, Tim Lowe and wife Belinda of Kansas City, KS, Larry Lowe and wife Jodie of Broken Arrow, OK, Ricky Lowe and wife Stacey of Kansas City, KS, Wes Owen of Lenexa, KS, Chris Owen of Kearney, MO, and Andy Owen of Shawnee, KS; two granddaughters, Kimberly Ann Andrews and husband Jeff of Shawnee, KS, and Michelle Lee Carmoney and husband Bryon of Kansas City, KS; six great-grandchildren, Amber, Nicolas, Ryan, Nicole, Matthew, and Heidi; two step-great-grandchildren, Josh and Heather Andrews; and one step-great-great-grandson, Skylar Andrews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Beulah, Rosa, and Lenora; and two brothers, Ennis and Barney. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 8, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. The family received friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment was in the Green Grove cemetery near Latham, with grandsons serving as casketbearers. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles.

Drysdale Helen

Helen L. Drysdale, age 85, of Barnett, passed away Tuesday morning, February 15, 2005 at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born June 16, 1919 in Carroll County, Missouri, the daughter of Loyd B. and Veryl Calvert Emmett. She was united in marriage on December 24, 1957 with Stephen H. Drysdale. Mrs. Drysdale was a retired insurance underwriter, and a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Versailles. She is survived by her husband, Stephen H. Drysdale of the home, several nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Janice Tyhurst, Ruth Jean Norris, and Dorothy May Hayward, and an infant brother. Funeral services will be at 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Lindy Reed officiating. Interment will be Friday morning in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Duffer Marie Nina

Nina Marie Duffer, age 78, of Stover, passed away Friday, January 10, 2003 at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born August 1, 1924 in Morgan County, Missouri, the daughter of Charley and Della Shewmaker Webb. She was united in marriage on April 2, 1941 with Harvey John Duffer, who preceded her in death on May 5, 1999. Mrs. Duffer was a homemaker and worked at Amex in Versailles. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. She is survived by one son, Dennia Duffer of Stover; two brothers, Calvin Gene Webb of Slater, and Jimmy Webb of Springfield; one sister, Elva Cable of Kansas City; two grandchildren, Dennis Harvey Duffer and Audrey Darlene Shewmaker, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by five brothers, Claud, Erbert, Paul, Richard, and Dorsey Webb, and one sister, Thelma Marriott. Services are at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Dinzel Webb officiating. Burial is in the Stover cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Duffer Marie Nina

Nina Marie Duffer, age 78, of Stover, passed away Friday, January 10, 2003 at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City. Dunham Reese Belle Hazel

Hazel Belle Reese Dunham, age 93, of Versailles, passed away Monday morning, February 10, 2003 at Carroll County Hospital in Carrollton, Missouri. She was born September 2, 1909 near Arnett, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Leroy and Jincy Sultana Pamelia Stewart Reese. She was united in marriage on November 30, 1933 to James Preston Dunham who preceded her in death on March 1, 1991. Mrs. Dunham was a homemaker and member of the Versailles United Methodist Church. She was active in the Garden Club, Extension Club, and was instrumental in researching Indian Trail and Thong Trees in Morgan County. She is survived by two sons, James P. Dunham Jr. , of Norborne, Missouri, and John A. Dunham Sr. of Versailles, Missouri; one daughter, Ardyth Hazel Cox of Springfield, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Jincy Ann Edmundson on October 19, 1983; two brothers, and three sisters. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Reverend Gailya Dow officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Sacred Gardens cemetery in Sedalia, Missouri. Casketbearers will be the grandsons, John Dunham Jr. , Jay Dunham, Jack Dunham, Doug Cox, Richard Cox, and Bob Edmundson. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials are suggested to the Versailles United Methodist Church music fund. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Dunscomb Edgar Daniel

Daniel Edgar Dunscomb, age 94, of Laurie, MO, passed away Wednesday morning, March 2, 2005 at the Laurie Care Center in Laurie. He was born February 24, 1911 in Malden, Missouri, the son of the late Daniel “Edgar” and Margaret “Olive” Capshaw Dunscomb. He was united in marriage to Oma L. Koeppel on May 23, 1937 who preceded him in death in 1989. He was a company field representative for International Harvester Company, very active member of the United Methodist Church Alamo Heights in San Antonio, TX, and the M.U. Alumni. Survivors include one daughter Diana L. White and husband Bill of Sunrise Beach, Missouri; two sisters Edna Provance of Malden, Missouri, Margaret Williams of Clarkton, Missouri; two sister-in-laws Wanda Dunscombe of Clarkton, Missouri, Ethel Dunscombe of Tucson, Arizona; three grandchildren, Brian, Joel, and Joy; one daughter-in-law Renee, many other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 4, 2005 at the Cape County Memorial Park cemetery in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel.
