Calton P. Andrew

Andrew P. Calton, age 81, of Gravois Mills, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2004 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born February 19, 1923 in Camden County, Missouri, the son of Thomas Cleveland and Bertha Mae McCasland Calton. He was united in marriage on August 11, 1945 in Versailles with Betty Sidebottom, who survives of the home. Mr. Calton was a retired engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad and member of the Burlington Northern Credit Union. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and attended the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles. Survivors include his wife, Betty Calton of the home; two daughters, Andrea Joyce Pankey and husband Mike, of North Kansas City, MO, and Diana Lynn Rinard of Olathe, KS; one brother, Grover Calton of Fortuna; one sister, Maxine DeRossett of Independence; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 7, at the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles, with Rev. Gary Petty and Rev. Leslie Howard officiating. Military honors and interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Michael Sidebottom, Randy Sidebottom, Jeffrey Pankey, Robert Pankey, Steven Calton and Stanley Sidebottom. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Andrew P. Calton Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Ball, James Lee Sr.

James Lee Ball Sr., age 78, of Versailles, passed away Saturday evening, November 12, 2005 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. He was born February 13, 1927 in East St. Louis, Illinois, the son of Bernadott and Hazel Ball. He was united in marriage on July 17, 1958 with Victoriana Torres. Mr. Ball was a dedicated police officer for over 20 years with the Edgewater Police Department in Edgewater, Colorado, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is remembered by his wife of 47 years, Vicoriana of the home; and his children, Michael Ball of Denver, CO, Kathleen Thibault of Rock Hills, S.C., James Ball Jr. of Piedmont, R. Patrick Ball of Arvada, CO, John Ball of Laurie, Lawrence Ball of Sunrise Beach, Mary Wright of Versailles, and Kelly Norman of Sunrise Beach, and their spouses, 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and by his many friends and family who he shared his life with. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 16, at Locust Baptist Mission Church with Pastor Dallas Moritz officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Barhite C. Gloria

Gloria C. Barhite, age 62, of Gravois Mills, passed away Sunday evening, March 20, 2005 at the Laurie Care Center in Laurie. She was born October 5, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Salvator and Catherine Chiarello Libutti. She was united in marriage to David Barhite in 1980 at Westminster, Colorado. Mrs. Barhite was a self employed accountant and bookkeeper and member of the Elks Lodge #2705. She is survived by her husband David Barhite of the home; two daughters Kristine Hansen and husband Gary of Gravois Mills, Kathleen Gleason and husband John of Arvada, Colorado; one brother Salvator Libutti of Mission Viejo, California; seven grandchildren Jeffrey Gleason, John Lombardi, Nick Lombardi, Katherine Lombardi, Jesse Hansen, Heather Hansen, and Jessie Herndon; one great-grandchild Alexis Hansen, many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie with Pastor Nick Stutesman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Gloria C. Barhite will be cremated following services. Barrows Adell Fern
October 3, 2003

Fern Adell Barrows, age 101, of Versailles, passed away Friday afternoon, October 3, 2003 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born September 29, 1902 in Cambridge, Nebraska, the daughter of Joe and Nellie Clary Wayman. She was united in marriage on May 8, 1922 with Lyle J. Barrows, who preceded her in death on December 4, 1966. Mrs. Barrows was a retired Registered Nurse and homemaker. She was a member of Hopewell Union Church, member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #410 in Versailles, member of the Rebecca Lodge for 75 years, member of Miller Rebecca Lodge #324 in Eldon, the Fortuna Senior Citizens, Willing Workers Club, was a 4-H Leader and Extension Club member, and was Mrs. Liberty in the 4th of July Parade with Buffalo Bill in North Platte, Nebraska. She is survived by four grandchildren, Paula S. Campbell of Harvey, Lousiana, Linda C. Hotinger of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Jean Ann Turner of Gurnee, Illinois, and Gary Barrows of Williamsburg, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Turner, and Jennifer Campbell; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Hutchison Barrows Gares, of Versailles, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one son, Eugene L. Barrows on February 3, 1978. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Jasper Hunter officiating. Hymns were sung by Rev. Robert D. Ross accompanied at the organ by Virginia Ross. Interment was in the Hopewell cemetery near Versailles. Casketbearers were Darrel Gunn, Jim Daniels, Jack Hutchison, Todd Wilhelm, Tom Daniels, and Gerald Yarnell. Honorary casketbearers were Grover Griffin, Glen Deffenbaugh, Ted Hitchcock and Harold Hildreth. Eastern Star Services were held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Barton, Steven Michael

Steven Michael Barton, age 15, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2006 at his home. He was born April 17, 1990 to Butch and Connie Barton. Steven was a sophomore at Morgan County R-II High School in Versailles, where he was on the high honor roll and had perfect attendance. He was a member of Future Farmers of America, Junior Beta Club and National Beta Club, Who’s Who of American High School Students and member of United States Academic Achievements. He was a member of West Union Baptist Church near Versailles, loved the outdoors, and was an avid Chiefs and Tigers Fan. He is survived by his parents, Butch and Connie Barton of the home; one sister, Amanda Barton of the home; paternal grandmother, Helen Lorene Barton of Versailles; maternal grandmother, Hazel Rush Versailles; maternal grandfather, James Whittle of Clarkston, Washington; his aunt and uncle, Anna and Rich Grider, and their son Barry and wife Rachael, of Versailles, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 9, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Rod Campbell officiating. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Richard Muschett, Curtis Cunningham, Jimmy Don Chipley, Scott Wilson, Garrett Thouvenel, and Steve Compton. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Steven Barton Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Bauer, Shirley O. Washburn

Shirley O. Washburn Bauer, age 92, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born April 18, 1913 at Gravois Mills, Missouri, the daughter of William S. and Lottie C. Webster Washburn. Shirley was united in marriage to Alvin H. Bauer on April 21, 1934, who preceded her in death on July 18, 1984. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Versailles since November 11, 1923, where she was an active member in many groups and organizations. She was active in the family business of the Firestone Store, Morgan County Oil, and was secretary and treasurer of Morgan County Gas, Inc. Shirley is survived by one son, William H. Bauer and his wife Diann, of Versailles, Missouri; one daughter, Carolyn E. Swartz and her husband Bill, of Aurora, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Bobbi Gail Birdsong, Beth Ann Bauer, Barrie Joy Bales, Danielle Rae Bauer, Pam Fly, Steve Swartz and Jay Swartz; eight great grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul E. Washburn, Dr. J.L. Washburn, and Dr. W. Otho Washburn, one sister, Mildred Six, and two grandchildren, Terri Gay Bauer and Bret William Bauer. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 15, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Versailles, with Pastor Diane Miller officiating. Vocal selections will be sung by Robert D. Ross, accompanied at the organ by Virginia Ross. Interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. Casketbearers will be Darrel Goodman, Kenneth Pepper, Clarence Cable, Dave White, Virgil Lujin, Bill Williams, O.B. Clark and Keith Mueller. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to Westminster Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund in Versailles. Beatty, Charlene

Charlene Beatty, age 76, of Gravois Mills, passed away Saturday morning, September 3, 2005 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born November 18, 1928 at Richmond, Missouri, the daughter of Charles P. and Nancy Margaret Williams Isbell. She was united in marriage with Herbert V. Beatty, who survives of the home. Mrs. Beatty graduated from Central High School in Kansas City and was retired from A.T.& T. She was a member of West Lake Christian Church in Laurie and TOPS. In addition to her husband she is survived by one son, Herbert V. Beatty III, of Kansas City; one daughter, Pamela Taylor of Belton; one sister, Roberta Wright of Independence; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Greg, and two daughters, Linda and Sandy. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, at West Lake Christian Church in Laurie, and at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, at Raymore Christian Church in Raymore, with Rev. Jim Sutherlin officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Belger M. Doris

Doris M. Belger, age 76, of Gravois Mills, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2005 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born August 14, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Gladys Ellis Hollingsworth. She was united in marriage on May 4, 1965 with Floyd Robert Belger, who preceded her in death on February 5, 1979. Mrs. Belger was a retired waitress. She is survived by one daughter, Laura (Parris) Fogarty and companion Brian Henningsen, of Jefferson City, and one grandchild, Austin. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Dr. Todd Forman officiating. The vocal selection of “How Great Thou Art” was sung. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Bell M. Gertrude

Gertrude M. Bell, age 96, of Laurie passed away Monday evening, October 18, 2004 at the Laurie Care Center. She was born September 29, 1908 in Cache, Oklahoma, the daughter of Tom and Dora Baker Walters. She was united in marriage to Harold E. Hyatt who preceded her in death in 1949. Gertrude later married Thomas Bell who preceded her in death. She worked for Phillips Petroleum in Kansas City, Kansas, owned several taverns and was a life time member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Gertrude enjoyed traveling and especially Las Vegas, Nevada. She is survived by one daughter, Bobbie Lesher of Gravois Mills, four grandchildren, Larry Yount and wife, Elaine of Creighton, Missouri, Gregory Yount of Sunrise Beach, Sherri Hyatt of Gravois Mills, and Harold K. Hyatt and wife, Joan of Camdenton, MO; five great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, devoted friends Bob and Madelyn Wiscour of Gravois Mills, many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Harold E. Hyatt in 2000, six sisters, and one brother. Gertrude M. Bell was cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Bennett Earl
September 16, 2003

Earl Bennett, age 81, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Tuesday morning, September 16, 2003 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. He was born March 17, 1922 in Independence, Missouri, the son of Joseph A. and Carrie C. Ferguson Bennett. He was united in marriage on November 10, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas with Mary Evelyn Wilkerson. Mr. Bennett was retired from Trans World Airlines, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, member of the American Legion Zack Wheat Post #624 in Sunrise Beach, the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Bennett of the home; one brother, Carl Bennett of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister, Betty Newell of Sulfur Springs, Arkansas, and many friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 18, at the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie, with Father Fred Barnett officiating. Interment will be in the St. Patrick cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Laurie.

Bianco Charles
August 31, 2003

Charles T. Bianco, age 49, of Gravois Mills, Missouri passed away Sunday morning, August 31, 2003 at his home in Gravois Mills. He was born March 7, 1954 in Salem, Massachusetts, the son of Louis and Rosita Mary Vasquez Bianco. He was a heavy equipment operator. He is survived by two sons, Charles T. Bianco Jr. and Louis Bianco of Gravois Mills, Missouri; two daughters Maria Mayo of Gravois Mills and Lisa Bianco of Salisbury, Massachusetts; one brother Mark Bianco of Salisbury, Massachusetts; one sister Mary McInnes of Hampton, New Hampshire; one grandson, Keenan, many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, September 4, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Cremation will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles

September 22, 2003

Haley Nadine Alta Bigley, age 6, of Sunrise Beach, passed away Monday evening, September 22, 2003 at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City from injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier that evening. She was born April 1, 1997 in Osage Beach, Missouri, daughter of Amy Amanda Bigley, who preceded her in death. Haley was a student at Hurricane Deck Elementary School. She is survived by one brother, Zane Cornell of Sunrise Beach; grandparents Beverly Green of Sunrise Beach, and Warner W. Bigley of Kansas City, MO; great-grandparents, Robert L. and Carolyn Angell of Gravois Mills, Rutherford & JoAnn Mills of Camdenton, and Thelma Bigley of Kansas City, MO; two uncles, Robby and Bobby Bigley of Sunrise Beach; one aunt, Deidra Bigley of Blue Springs; great-uncles Rocky, Bill and Bob Mills, and Charlie Boyert of Sunrise Beach; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Warner W. Bigley Sr., and Warren W. Boyert. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie. Interment will be in Garber Memorial Estates cemetery in Laurie. Bishop L. John

John L. Bishop, age 90, of Versailles, passed away Thursday evening, March 17, 2005 at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City. He was born March 28, 1914 at Eldon, Missouri, the son of Robert and Mary Hayes Bishop. He was united in marriage on October 5, 1940 with Lucille Troutman. John worked for Kansas City Bifocal in Versailles for 33 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Versailles, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and member of the American Legion for 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Bishop of the home; one son, J.C. Bishop and wife Jane, of Oak Grove; one daughter, Marsha Trent and husband Dan, of Lee’s Summit; one sister, Mildred Price of Tipton; five grandchildren, Kevin Trent¸ Nathaniel Trent, Jacob Bishop, Melanie Crawford, and David Bishop; five great-grandchildren, Cassie Pellegrino, Thomas Crawford, Austin Bishop, Emily Trent, and Tyler Trent; a step great-granddaughter, Madison Moore; and one great-great-grandson, Korben Pellegrino, many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Herschel, Lloyd and Durwood Bishop, and two sisters, Rose Branson and Lillie Cool. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 21, at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Todd Forman officiating. Military honors and interment will be in the Versailles cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Bonar, Anita Lorraine

Anita Lorraine Bonar, age 75, of Tipton, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born on September 25, 1930 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Lorraine and Anna Margaret McKasson Rutherford. In July of 1947 and again in April of 1978, she married Ervin Carl Bonar, who preceded her in death on July 4, 1995. Mrs. Bonar graduated from New London High School in Iowa. She worked in a variety of jobs around Fairfield and Muscatine, Iowa. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Fairfield, Iowa and Eastern Star in the Fairfield area. In her younger years she enjoyed doing ceramics, crocheting flower gardening, and spending time with her family. She is survived by two sons, Ronald Carl and his wife Melody of Versailles and Gary Lorraine and his wife Ruth of Birmingham, Iowa; six grandchildren, Sara Quinn and her husband Michael of Davenport, Iowa, Megan Welch and her husband Douglas of Jefferson City, Ryan Bonar and his wife Joni of Fairfield, Iowa Daniel Bonar and his wife, Amy of Murray, Kentucky, Alex Bonar of Fairfield, Iowa, and Robin Bonar of Versailles; four great-grandchildren Thomas Welch of Jefferson City, Abigail and Kyle Quinn of Davenport, Iowa, Lily Grace Bonar of Murray, Kentucky, and one more on the way; two brothers Kenneth Rutherford and his wife Dolly of Canton, Missouri, David Rutherford and his wife Marilyn of West Des Moines, Iowa; four sisters Theda Kay Grinnell of Las Vegas, Nevada, Zelda Jackson and her husband Merlin of Fillmore, Utah, Marcia Moreland and her husband Cecil of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Carol Lynn Taulker of Las Vegas, Nevada; one brother-in-law Earl Bonar of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; one sister-in-law Lucille Bonar of Yarmouth, Iowa, many nieces and nephews; an aunt, Lucille McKasson in Winfield, Iowa, an uncle, Jake McKasson and his wife Doris of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Alan Lee Bonar, parents, sister Burrietta, brothers, DeWayne, Wendel, and Jerry. Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 24, 2005 at Aspen Grove cemetery in Burlington, Iowa with Pastor Michael Metz officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
