ALMA I. THILKING

Alma I. Thilking, 83, Blue Springs, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, in the Blue Springs Care Center.

Mrs. Thilking was born in Block, Kan., and had lived most of her adult life in Independence. She was a member of the United Church of Christ of Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hurley Thilking, a daughter, Diane Steele, and a grandson, Kirby Edson.

Her survivors include two daughters Doris Alumbaugh, Independence, and Nancy Hartman, Camdenton, Mo.; a brother, George Minden, Block; three sisters, Linda Kersey, Denver, Clara Peckman, Paola, Kan., and Olga Meyer, Fayetteville, Ark.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services and burial were today at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. All arrangements are under the direction of the D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel.

TROY A. THOMAS JR.

Troy Alexander Thomas Jr., 26, Indianapolis, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Thomas was born March 4, 1971, in Kansas City, Mo., and lived in Independence from 1971 until moving to Indianapolis in 1993. He worked at the Palomino Bar and Restaurant and was a member of the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Independence. His survivors include a son, Christian A. Thomas, Indianapolis; mother and stepfather, Muriel and Jerry Woodburn, Independence; father and stepmother, Robert and Barbara Thomas, Indianapolis; a brother, Travis Morris, Independence; grandmothers, Dorothy Rudd, Kansas City, Kan., and Audrey Thomas, Independence; and three aunts, Diana Rudd-Shaffer, Debbie Rudd-Lynch and Barbara Pendergraff.

Services were today at the church; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Christian Thomas trust fund, in care of Murial Woodburn, 16700 Ellison Way, Independence, Mo. 64055. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

HARVEY L. "GRIGGE" WARREN JR.

Harvey Lee "Grigge" Warren Jr., 51, Independence, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Warren was a lifelong Independence resident. He was a construction inspector for George Butler and Associates for three years. He was a member of St. Cyril`s Catholic Church, Eagles Lodge No. 3717, Sugar Creek, Tribe of Mic-O-Say Eagle Scout Troop 203 and was a past member of the Three Trails Shootout Gang.

His survivors include two sons, Russ R. Warren, Sweet Springs, Mo., and Matthew R. Hess, Independence; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel, where a prayer service will be held at 8:15.

ELWOOD "GENE" E. CRANDALL

Elwood "Gene" E. Crandall, 72, Independence, passed away Jan. 2, 1998, in his home.

He was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Lawton, Okla., and moved to Independence in 1927. He attended McCoy Elementary School and William Chrisman High School, graduating in 1943.

Mr. Crandall enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943. He served in the South Pacific on the ATR 33 Seagoing Tugboat until the end of World War II.

He married Mary Eizabeth Ray, May 9, 1947.

He worked for Standard Oil Co. of Sugar Creek, from 1948 to 1960. He worked for the Ford Motor Co. Claycomo plant from 1960 until his retirement in 1972.

Mr. Crandall was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge No. 76 in Independence. He served as Worshipful Master of the lodge in 1989. For several years he carried all five proficiency cards for the State of Missouri. He was also a member of the Ararat Shrine York Rite and Scottish Rite organizations.

He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, and was called to the Tribe of Mic-O-Say in 1970.

Mr. Crandall was preceded in death by his mother, Emma, and stepfather, George Dillee. His brothers John and David also preceded him in death.

Mr. Crandall is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; two sons Curt Crandall, Buckner and Chris, Blue Springs;and five grandsons, Cameron, Cory, Benjamin, Eric and Kyle.

Memorial and Masonic services will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Friends may call beginning at 6:30 Sunday at the chapel.

The family recommends contributions to the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, H. Roe Bartle Swimming Pool Fund, Heart of America Council, Boy Scouts of America.

GIDEON J. EAGLESON

Gideon Jane Eagleson, 92, Harrisonville, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, in the Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville, Mo.

She was born Nov. 19, 1905, in Golden, Mo. She married William "Bill" Eagelson Sept. 26, 1923.

Mrs. Eagleson lived in Independence before moving to Garden City, Mo., in 1954. She moved to Harrisonville in 1976. She was a member of the East Lynne (Mo.) Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Eagleson was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, Sept. 1, 1992, and by an infant daughter, Anna Belle.

She is survived by three sons: Paul Eagleson, Harrisonvill; William Eagleson, Independence, and Herbert Eagleson, Garden City; four daughters; Naomi Ellot, Mountain View, Mo., Betty White, Harrisonville, Mary Carlyle, Warrensburg, Mo., and Martha Stone, North Port, Fla.; 28 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren and 50 great-great-grandchidren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at East Lynne Baptist Church in East Lynne, Mo. Burial will be in Clearfork cemetery, Garden City, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville.

Memorial contributions can be made to the East Lynne Baptist Church.

JERRY IRWIN

Jerry Irwin, 81, Bronaugh, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, in Research Hospital, Kansas City.

She was born June 19, 1916, in Hoisington, Kan.She married Marion F. Irwin Dec. 30, 1937, in Paris, Mo.

Mrs. Irwin was a 1936 graduate of Emporia State Teachers College, earning a degree in music education. She taught school for three years in Gardner, Kan., and Turner, Kan., before moving to Vernon County in 1946.

After raising her family, Mrs. Irwin returned to teaching, retiring in 1973.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star; PEO Sisterhood Chapter DW, and numerous bridge clubs. She served as a church musician for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Bronaugh United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Shuman.

Mrs. Irwin is survived by her husband Marion, of the home; four daughters; Jerry Lee Brummett, Kearney, Mo., Donna Jean Watkins, Independence, Mo., Joalyn Marie McKenney, Fredricktown, Mo., and Janet Chapman, Kearney, Mo; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Bronaugh United Methodist Church, with burial at the Worsley cemetery, Bronaugh. All arrangements under the direction of the Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo..

REGINA ELAINE WATKINS

Regina Elain Watkins, 27, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center.

She was a certified nurses aid and a member of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Brandi Shacoy Watkins, of the home; her mother, Lovella Watkins, Blue Springs; father Walter A. Watkins, Joplin, Mo.; one brother, John Edison, Salina, Kan.; three sisters Coy Watkins, of the home; Varonica Watkins, Joplin; and Jen-Ca Watkyns, Joplin; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, 205 S. 17th St., Blue Springs. Friends may call beginning at noon before the service.

Donations may be made to the Brandi Shacoy Watkins scholarship fund or to the family to defray funeral costs.

FAE ALLEN

Fae Tarwater Allen, 93, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Allen was born Feb. 29, 1904, near Orrick, Mo., and lived in Enid, Okla., from 1946 until returning to Independence in 1974. She was a 1922 graduate of William Chrisman High School.

Her survivors include two daughters, Patricia Allen Dreizler, Redondo Beach, Calif., and Sarah Allen Osasa, Palm Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one niece, Lenore Brown Weeks, Independence.

Cremation. There are no services. Arrangements are under the direction of Speaks Suburban Chapel.

ROY E. FIKE

Roy E. Fike, 91, Climax Springs, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton.

Mr. Fike lived in Independence until moving to Lake of the Ozarks in Edwards, Mo., in 1970. He was circuit clerk of Jackson County of 22 years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His wife, Mary Fike, died in 1995.

His survivors include one son, Albert Fike, Dayton, Ohio; one daughter, Clair Eaken, Kansas City; one stepdaughter, Delores McLaughlin, Independence; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, Mo. Burial will be in Cable Ridge cemetery, near Edwards. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Warsaw Health Care Center, in care of the funeral home.
