GINGER BROWN
Services for Ginger Brown, 73, Carthage, who died June 8, 2003, were held June 13 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Carthage. Bishop Vance Willis officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery. Services were under the direction of Knell Mortuary.
Pallbearers were William Pittman, Cody Sneddon, Russell Sneddon, Thomas Martinez, Carlos Lucio and Leonardo Rivera.
Memorial contributions were suggest to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints relief society.
June T. Piercy
Services for June Turner Piercy, who died June 12, 2003, at St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage, were held Sunday, June 15 at Knell Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Charles Carson officiated.
Musical selections were Danny Wright's "Shadows," "In the Garden," Judy Collin's "Amazing Grace" and "Serenity," by Chip Davis.
Burial was in Hackney cemetery, Carthage. Pallbearers were Keith Piercy, Brian Piercy, Mark Frashier, Dan Piercy, Trevor Piercy and Roger Rush.
Contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army or the Alzheimer's Association.
Marie Humphrey
JASPER, Mo. - Marie Humphrey, 68, Jasper, died at 5:35 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
Mrs. Humphrey was born July 1, 1934, in St. Louis, Mo., to Merril and Partha Flannery Knight. She was a waitress at Judy's Cafe.
Survivors include a son, Bob Moore, Cool, Calif.; a daughter, Audrey Lee, Sacramento, Calif.; four brother, Dave Thurman, Golden City, Frank Knight, Duquesne, Lonnie Knight, Carl Junction and John Knight, Jasper; two sisters, Claudia Hulstine and Merleen Swanson, both of Jasper.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 at Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home, Lamar. Burial will be in Avilla cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. on tonight at the funeral home.
Cletta May Hansen
Cletta May Hansen, 85, Carthage, died at 8 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2003 at St. Luke's Nursing Center.
Mrs. Hansen was born March 13, 1918 in Eureka Springs, Ark. to William Bartlett Goldman and Daisy Bell (Crow) Goldman. She was a lifetime resident of Carthage, working as a machine operator for Smith Brothers for 33 years until her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of Center Point Christian Church and the Carthage V.F.W.
She married
Richard Ward Hansen July 28, 1943, in Columbus, Kan. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1945.
Survivors include a daughter Melba Fern McCune of Carthage; three brothers, Eugene "Bart" Goldman of Carthage, Max Goldman of Carthage and Harmon Rex Goldman of Carthage; a sister, Helen Hutcheson of Joplin; three grandchildren, Richard Lee McCune and David William McCune of Carthage, Lisa McCune (Currey) Daoud of Sarcoxie and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003 at Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel in Carthage. Burial will be at Fasken cemetery.
Visitation is set for 7-8 p.m. Sunday, June 15 at Ulmer Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to Center Point Christian Church.
June Turner Piercy
June Turner Piercy, 85 passed away Thursday, June 12, 2003 at 1: 10 p.m. at the St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage. She was born June 18, 1917, in Carterville, Mo. the daughter of Luther and Anna Turner. Her parents and one sister, Irene Fike, preceded her
in death.
She was a 1935 graduate of the Carthage High School. She married
her High School sweetheart, Don R. Piercy on June 7, 1936 in Neosho, Mo. He survives at the home. Kansas City was their home for 47 years. For the last two years, they lived on the Piercy Homestead Centennial Farm in Jasper County.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Garden Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. June was a homemaker. Her life was devoted to her family. She nurtured her children and their children throughout her life. Her ready smile and quick wit warmed many hearts. She was treasured by all of her friends. June and Don loved to travel and collected many memories in their 67 years of marriage. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Don Piercy, Carthage, two sons, Ronald L. Piercy and his wife Willa, Kearney, Mo., Jeffrey R. Piercy and his wife Mary Beth, Highlands Ranch, Colo., a daughter, Linda Rene Frashier and her husband Kenneth, Lake Lotawana, Mo., nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Saturday June 14, 2003, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Knell Mortuary. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Sunday, June 15, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. in the Mortuary Chapel. The Rev. Charles Carson will officiate. Burial will be in the Hackney cemetery, Carthage, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army or the Alzheimer's Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
Gloria Marie Shultz
Lamar, Mo. - Gloria Marie Shultz, 80, Lamar, Mo., died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood, Mo.
Mrs. Shultz was born April 20, 1923, in Argentine, Kan. to Leo Herman and Hazel Marie "Kaniper" Vohs. She married
James W. Shultz Aug. 31, 1944 in Kansas City. He preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 2000.
She was an office clerk for Finley Engineering and also worked as head cashier for Barton County Electric Coop. She was also a member of Iantha Methodist Church and a member of U.M.W. Iantha Church - Mt. Hope Chapter #74, Order of the Eastern Star in Lamar.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Frieden of Lamar, Mo; a brother, Ralph Vohs of Meadows of Dan, Va.; and a sister Virginia Christensen of Vancouver, Wash.
Visitation is set for 7-8 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2003, at Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home in Lamar. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003 at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Garden of Memories in Pittsburg, Kan.
Memorials are suggested to the Iantha Methodist Church or American Cancer Society.
Lyman M. Coleman
Lyman M. Coleman, 78, Carthage, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at his home in Carthage after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Coleman was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Riverton, Kan. and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life until moving to Carthage seven years ago.
He worked as an equipment inspector with the former Atlas Powder Co. for 28 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a graduate of Joplin High School and attended the former Joplin Junior College and Kansas University. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin.
He married
Roberta Blotter on Nov. 26, 1949 in Bentonville, Ark. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Ron Coleman of San Antonio, Texas, and Bob Coleman of Katy, Texas; two brothers, John Coleman of Rogersville, Mo., and Ben Coleman of Webb City; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 16 at Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin. Rev. Tim Sumners will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 13. Memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Hospice of Joplin or the Forest Park Baptist Church.
Kenneth F. Heman
SARCOXIE, Mo. - Kenneth F. Heman, 64, Sarcoxie,passed away at his home Saturday, June 21, 2003, from an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Heman was born Aug. 18, 1938, in Sarcoxie. He had lived most of his life in this area, moving to Joplin in 1969 until 1974. He graduated from Sarcoxie High School in 1956 and was a member of the Sarcoxie School Board from 1979 to 2002. He was in the National Guard, Pierce City from 1959 to 1965. He coached youth basketball for several years. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Joplin.
He married
Carolyn F. Heese, on May 19, 1962, at Pierce City. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Michael Heman, Sarcoxie and Bruce Heman, Aurora; two daughters, Marla Bass, Carthage, and Michele Hendrix, Joplin; his mother, Loretta Heman, Sarcoxie; a brother, Lawrence Heman, LaRussell; a sister, Emma Schmaderer, Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Heman, Kyle Heman, Kaitlyn Heman, Brett Heman, Megan Heman, Kadin Bass, Kendrick Bass, Ryan Hendrix and Matthew Hendrix.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Heman, and a sister, Delores Heman.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pierce City, with the Revs. Henry Heese and Peter Morciniec officiating. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at Housh Funeral Home with visitation following.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pierce City.
Pallbearers will be Michael Heman, Bruce Heman, Chris Heman, Lance Heman, Joel Heman and Rick Cook.
Pearl E. Knox
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Pearl Evelyn Knox, 78, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, after a tragic automobile accident in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Mrs. Knox was born Nov. 20, 1924, in St. Michael, Neb., to Orville H. and Vera M. Timm. After graduating high school in 1942, she moved to Oklahoma City, from Carthage, Mo., to attend school at Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University), where she graduated in 1949 with a major in psychology and home economics. She later did graduate work in psychology in the University of Oklahoma.
On Sept. 6, 1958, she married
Scott K. Knox, while he was on active duty in the U.S. Navy.
Her 35-year professional career was primarily in the banking industry, which began with 23 years of service at Central National Bank in Oklahoma City, where she started in the bookkeeping department and worked her way up to the assistant to the vice president of securities and commercial loans. While at Central National Bank, she was the first woman in Oklahoma to become a banking auditor. After her retirement, she was involved in many volunteer activities for her community. Her favorite was at the Integris Third Age Life Center, where she started volunteering in September 1988 and worked there up until her death, putting in a total of 7,538 volunteer hours. While at Third Age Life, she won many awards, including Volunteer of the Year and participated in many activities including Volunteer Income Tax Assistance for 13 years, Kids Care, senior screenings, blood drives and community health screenings. Her other volunteer activities outside Third Age Life included being certified in the Senior Health Insurance counseling program since March 1994 and in her first year there, received the award of Outstanding Counselor of the Quarter. She was also a judge and inspector at local voting precincts during elections, and was involved for many years in various positions in Wileman Belle Isle Neighborhood Association.
She was a member of the Oklahoma City First Church of the Nazarene, and the Caritas Sunday School Class.
Her husband and parents preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, John Knox, Edmond, Okla.; two sisters, Elaine Baker and Velma Holz, both of Carthage; four nieces and a nephew.
The synonym for pearl is a gem, and one definition of a gem is "a beloved and highly prized person," which was the exact description of Pearl Knox. She was always willing to help people in any way she could and was a great listener when you just needed someone to talk to. She was loved dearly by so many people and will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
Memorial donations can be made to Integris Health Foundation, Third Age Life Center.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mercer-Adams in Bethany, Okla.
Graveside services and interment will be at Fairview Mausoleum in Shawnee, Okla.
Nancy J. Sanders
JOPLIN, Mo. - Services for Nancy J. Sanders, 72, Joplin, who died Wednesday, June 18, were held June 21 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. The Rev. Kent Hogan officiated.
Recorded music titled, "Amazing Grace," "Remember Me," "My Heart, My Home" and "I Can Only Imagine" was played.
A son, Robert Sanders, gave special words of remembrance in the life of his mother.
Employees of LaBarge, Inc., Joplin and the honor guard of Joplin Fire Department were seated in groups.
Pallbearers were Ken Barnes, Jeromy Cochran, Brent Duran, John Hopper, Robert Sanders and Dan Sanders.
Burial was in Park cemetery, Carthage.
Nancy Jean Sanders
Nancy J. Sanders went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 18, 2003.
She lived a full and happy life that she shared with many family members and friends. Nancy was the most self-less and giving person you could ever hope to meet. She always put others' needs in front of her own especially her family's and she was always willing to help out in any way that she could. Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing games with her sisters, reading and spending time outdoors.
Nancy died 5:10 p.m. Wednesday June 18, 2003, in Freeman West Hospital, Joplin. She was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Carthage to George Brown and Alta Ullom Brown. She has resided in Joplin the last 48 years where she worked in solder production for LaBarge, Inc. for 27 years. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Teamsters Local 823, Joplin.
She married
C.L. Sanders, he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Terry Horton, Pittsburg, Kan.; two sons, Robert Sanders, Seneca, Mo., Dan Sanders, Waveland, Miss.; seven grandchildren, Brent Duran, Sarah Cochran, Christian Sanders, Kathleen Sanders, Emily Sanders, Matthew Sanders, Michael Barnes; one great-grandson, Myles Cochran; one brother, Carroll Brown, Carthage; four sisters, Betty Frantz, Doris Schaunce, Eva Burel, Mary Hopper, all of Carthage.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Nancy was a beautiful person with a beautiful heart and she will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Friday, June 20 at the Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21 in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Park cemetery, Carthage.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
