Eugene Duncan

Eugene Carl Duncan, 74, of Wappapello, formerly of Flint, Mich., died Monday, June 7, 2004, at his residence.

Mr. Duncan was born Feb. 1, 1930, in Caruthersville. He retired in 1982 from the truck assembly plant of General Motors in Flint, Mich., where he was a member of the 598 UAW and of the local chapter of the Retirees Drop-In Center of Poplar Bluff. He was a member of the Westwood Baptist Church and of the choir and had helped build the Living Christmas Tree. He was also a senator of the Silver Hair Legislator of the Ozark Foothills Region. He enjoyed tinkering with cars, welding and woodworking.

On April 22, 1950, he married Frances Wright in Paragould, Ark.

Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Rocheleau of Flint; three sons, Randall Duncan of Clarksville, Tenn., Rodney Duncan of Flint and Mark Duncan of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Fred Duncan and Berley Duncan, both of Wappapello; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel at Wappapello. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westwood Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. Steve Proctor officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Baptist Home in Ironton.

Jerry Lamb

OSCEOLA, Ark. -- Jerry Lee Lamb, 61, of Manila, Ark., died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Memphis, Tenn.

Mr. Lamb was born Dec. 17, 1942, at Leachville, Ark. He worked as a service technician for MFA Oil Company and was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was married to Barbara Lamb. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Tina Angelly of Poplar Bluff; one son, Brian Lamb of Farmington; one stepdaughter, Barbara Challis of Kester, Ark.; three sisters, Geraldean Martin of Manila, Ark., Anna Huggins of Poplar Bluff and Betty Barry of St. Louis; two brothers, Charles Lamb of Beebe Branch, Ark. and Hollis Lamb of Judsonia, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-Swift Funeral Home in Osceola, Ark. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Manila cemetery.

Maryln Ford

ADVANCE -- Maryln "Sue" Ford, 56, of Advance died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Mrs. Ford was born July 16, 1947, in Wayne County. She was a member of the Bethel General Baptist Church near Advance and a cook for the Advance school system.

On June 28, 1969, she married Troy Ford at Hiram. He survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Delain Ford of Redding, Calif., and Dwyght Ford of Advance; one brother, Donald Abernathy of Hillsboro and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Ray Placher officiating and the Rev. Bill Sargent assisting. Burial will be in the Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.

Dale Lane

DEXTER -- Dale Lane, 55, of Sikeston died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Mr. Lane was born Feb. 11, 1949, at Dexter. He was a member of the Church of God in Sikeston and was a truck driver for Schneider Transport.

On May 26, 1984, he married Debby Shell in Sikeston. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Shawna Godwin of Waterloo, Ill.; one son, Bryan Lane of Evansville, Ind.; four sisters, Juanita Jones of Essex and Glenda McCollough, Judy Connor and Sue Lane, all of Dexter; one brother, Gale Lane of Sikeston; his mother, Mary Duncan Lane of Dexter and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel with the Revs. Carl Addison and Jerry Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Dexter cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Richland Public School's Girls Volleyball and Softball programs.

Louise Bacon

OLATHE, Colo. -- Poplar Bluff native Louise Haag Bacon, 85, died of cancer Wednesday morning, June 16, 2004, at her residence in Olathe.

The daughter of the late Parish Godieb Hagg and Erna Hagg, Mrs. Bacon was born Dec. 11, 1918 in Poplar Bluff, and graduated from high school there.

Mrs. Bacon completed a two-year degree program at William Woods School for Girls in Fulton, and then received a degree in education from Southeast Missouri State College for Teachers. She began her teaching career in Poplar Bluff, where she taught nine years before moving to St. Louis where she was the first female investigator hired for Dunn & Bradstreet, a credit bureau agency. While living in St. Louis she met and married Ralph W. Richardson. They had two children. Her marriage to Richardson was dissolved in 1966.

Mrs. Bacon also lived in Texas and California and taught school in both places. She later moved to Colorado before finally settling in Olathe, Colo. in 1963. She lived there the rest of her life.

Mrs. Bacon retired from teaching in 1988 after 19 years in the Olathe, Colo. district. For 15 years she also tutored up to 21 students per evening in algebra and geometry and would not accept any fees for her work.

In 1970, she married Robert P. "Bob" Bacon in Olathe, Colo. He died in 1978.

For 25 years, Mrs. Bacon did volunteer work for RSVP. She also assisted in writing a newspaper column for more than 20 years. For about 25 years, she also made 100-200 crocheted, stuffed toys per year that she gave to charity. After retirement, Mrs. Bacon enjoyed bingo, crocheting, quilt making, bridge, reading, watching football, playing poker and gambling in Nevada.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen C. Bacon of Olathe, Colo.; a son, Ralph A. Richardson of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Haag; and a sister, Ernestine Ragsdale Rupe.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Montrose Valley Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Olathe cemetery.

Rubye Palmer

Rubye Trimble Palmer, 86, of Gamaliel, Ark., formerly of Poplar Bluff, died Monday, June 21, 2004, at the Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark.

Mrs. Palmer was born June 30, 1917, in Poplar Bluff. A homemaker, she had resided in the Mountain Home area for 32 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed playing bingo.

She was married to Guy Roy Trimble, who preceded her in death Oct. 15, 1990. In July 1993, she married Charles W. Palmer in Mountain Home, Ark. He survives. Her parents, William and Sarah (Cagle) McGowen, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Guy Roger Trimble of Portageville; one brother, John McGowen of White Lake, Mich.; two grandchildren, Sharon Trimble and Vicky Trimble; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jim Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Poplar Bluff.

Charles Rulo

DESOTO -- Charles "Chuck" J. Rulo, 74, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of DeSoto, died Sunday, June 20, 2004, in Poplar Bluff.

Mr. Rulo was born May 18, 1930, in St. Louis. He was a veteran of the United States Army and Navy. He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Poplar Bluff and a truck driver.

On May 20, 1995, he married Zencie O. Barnes at Poplar Bluff. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Karen Bourbon of Potosi; two sons, Bud Leisure of Springfield and Jimmy Leisure of Mehlville; two sisters, Gladys Benner of St. Louis and Betty Williams of Arnold; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Mahn Funeral Home in DeSoto. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Poplar Bluff with the Rev. Lester Galbraith officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri state Veteran's cemetery in Bloomfield.

V.A. Sielert

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- V.A. Sielert, 75, of Westport, Conn., formerly of Dexter, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Westport.

Mr. Sielert graduated from Dexter High School in 1946. He had lived in Westport for 35 years after residing in California for 23 years. He was a retired director of loss prevention for GTE with 40 years of service. An active member of the National Safety Council, he was also a member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society and a volunteer at the Pequot Library for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Wilma S. Sielert of Westport; one daughter, Wendy Valentine of Milford, Conn.; four sons, Steven Sielert of Westport, Richard Sielert of Lagunitis, Calif., William Sielert of Milbord, Conn., and Vern Sielert of Auburn, Wash.; one sister, Edith Dunn of Dexter; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and other relatives.

Funeral services were held May 29 at the Spear Funeral Home in Fairfield, Conn.

Information was furnished by Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Lilly Sharley

CAMPBELL -- Lilly May Sharley, 91, of Campbell died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Mary Mount Manor Nursing Home in Eureka.

Mrs. Sharley was born Dec. 13, 1912, at Campbell. She was a member of the Hopkins General Baptist Church in Campbell and later attended South Canaan General Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

On Oct. 29, 1927, she married Fred Hillard Sharley at Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death June 22, 1974.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Skinner of High Ridge, Kathy Dowling of Festus and Betty Nettles of Lake St. Louis; one son, Danny Sharley of Campbell; three sisters, Mary Lou Flanigan, Lanell Adams and Nadine Malin, all of Michigan; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Landess Funeral Home in Campbell. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Elder cemetery in Campbell.
