Evert Chapman

Evert Leon Chapman of 800 Courtney Avenue, Sikeston, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at the St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Mr. Chapman was born May 21, 1913, at Greenbriar, Mo., son of the late John Edgar and Nancy Corbin Chapman. In 1932, he married Otelia Coburn who survives of the home. Mr. Chapman was a graduate of Bloomfield High School, was a farmer in Stoddard County and a salesman in Bloomfield and Sikeston. He was the Farm Bureau Insurance Agent for 12 years in Stoddard County and later sold Specialty Advertising for the Thomas Murphy Company and JII Sales Promotions throughout Southeast Mo. Mr. Chapman was a 50 year member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge #153 A.F. & A.M., a member of the First Baptist Church at Bloomfield and later the First Baptist Church at Sikeston, where he had been a youth leader and Sunday School teacher. Survivors include his wife, Otelia of the home in Sikeston; two sons, Edgar Leon Chapman of East Peoria, Ill. and Richard Norman Chapman and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Chapman of Florence, S.C.; three grandsons, Benjamin Chapman of Denton, Texas, Terrence Chapman of Madison, Wis. and Keith Chapman of Boston, Mass.; by two brothers, John Chapman of Hemet, Calif. and Donald Chapman of Mill Valley, Calif.; by two sisters, Lois Bell of Jackson, Mo. and Jo Cossairt of Memphis, Tenn.; by one niece, Nancy Whitely of Rocky Mount, N.C.; other relatives and many friends survive to mourn his passing. One sister, Lucille Cossairt, preceded him in death. Visitation was held at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Dr. Jim Guffie of Montgomery City, Mo. officiating. Burial followed in the Bloomfield Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Chapman, Terrence Chapman, Benjamin Chapman, Donald Chapman, Larry Bell and Steve Cossairt.

Louella Koslow

Louella Koslow, daugher of the late George M. York and Clora Giles York, was born on March 29, 1913, at Dexter and died in the Crowley Ridge Carte Center in Dexter on March 5, 2002 at the age of 88. Mrs. Koslow was a homemaker and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to William Koslow, who preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 2002. Survivors include one brother, Bill York of Dexter; and two sisters, Sarah L. Poole of St. Louis and Georgia Graves of Dexter. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles York and Lester York; and by three sisters, Emma Emmerling, Alma Eagle and Mabel Ballentine. Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9. Funeral services were conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Rainey-Mathis Chapel with Rev. Clifford Wray officiating. Burial followed in the Sycamore Cemetery near Dexter.

Wayne Williams

Glendal Wayne Williams, 66, the son of the late Curley and Cora Mae Northcutt Williams, was born July 4, 1935 in Steele and died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at his residence in Dexter. Mr. Williams was a retired truck driver, a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War, and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Hawkins Evans on Jan. 5, 1990 in Clarkton, she survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael Wayne Williams of Dexter and Billy Wayne Williams of Bokeelia, Fla.; by one step-daughter, Donna Carol Tilley of Essex; by one brother, Verlon Copeland of Portageville; by two half-sisters; by three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. Visitation was held, today, March 21 at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden beginning at 10 a.m. Graveside services and Military Rites will be conducted at 1 p.m. at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Clarkton with Rev. Jack Allen officiating with Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden in charge of arrangements.

Terry Smith

Terry Roger Smith, son of Mary Moore Smith and the late Thomas "Bud" Smith, was born at Poplar Bluff, Mo. on May 4, 1948 and died on Oct. 4, 2001, as the result of injuries in an automobile accident near Bloomfield.
Mr. Smith had spent his entire life in Stoddard County and was of the Methodist Faith. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving in Vietnam, and a member of the V.F. W. at Wappapello, Mo. He was married to Lannis Hopkins, to this union one daughter was born.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Smith of Bloomfield, Mo.; one daughter, Rachel Smith of St. Louis, Mo.; and one sister, Patricia Monehan of Bloomfield.
Visitation was held at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at 10 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Chapel in Bloomfield with Rev. Jerry Park officiating. Interment followed in the Bloomfield Cemetery with Military Rites at the Cemetery. Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield was in charge of all arrangements.

Billy Wood

Billy Wood, 75, of Seminole, Fla. was born in Caruthersville, formerly a resident of Bloomfield, died Oct. 4, 2001 at his residence under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. Mr. Wood moved from Bloomfield in 1973. He retired from the VA Medical Center in 1990, after 20 years as a barber and a Building Management Supervisor. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II in the Asiatic Theater and a member of American Legion Post #252 and Amvets. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home in Seminole, Fla.; by two sons, Bradley Wood of St. Pete, Fla. and Roy Wood of Housesprings, Mo.; by one daughter, Joetta Bollinger of Kingwood, Texas; by two sisters, Dorothy Bledsoe and Betty Carlton, both of Dexter; and by one step-daughter, Beth Marino of Safety Harbor, Fla.

Michie DeBerry

Michie S. DeBerry of Rockton and formerly of Bloomfield, was born on Jan. 18, 1942 in Steele, the son of James T. and Cyrena Hawkins DeBerry and died on Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, in his home from a terminal illness, at the age of 59. He had lived 34 years in the Rockford and Rockton area. Michie was united in marriage to Shirley Wells on Feb. 8, 1967, she survives of the home. Mr. DeBerry retired from Longview Fibre Co. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Tim and Michie DeBerry, both of Rockton and Tom of Shirland; by one daughter, Tammy Tanner of Jackson, Wis.; by five grandchildren; by his mother, Cyrena Bragg of Bloomfield; by two sisters, Audrey Pounds and Marie Hankins, both of Bloomfield; and by one brother, Charles DeBerry of Dexter. He was preceded in death by his father, James T. DeBerry; two brothers, Hugh DeBerry and identical twin, Jim. Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 1 at McCorkle Funeral Home in Rockton with Rev. Rodney Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Rockton Township Cemetery.

Ellis Pruett

William Ellis Pruett, son of the late James and Bertha Teualton Pruett, was born near Bernie on Feb. 6, 1915 and died at Dexter on Oct. 3, 2001, at the age of 86. Mr. Pruett had spent his entire life in Stoddard County. He was in the Mercantile Business for 20 years south of Dexter, then moved to Frisco before moving to the Aid Community in 1956 where he remained in the store business for 10 years. He then was Regional Sales Manager for the National Motor Club of Dallas, Texas, covering Mo., Ark., Tenn., Kent., Ill. and part of Kan. Mr. Pruett had been a member of Liberty Hill General Baptist Church in Aid since 1957. On Sept. 18, 1937, he was united in marriage to Rosa Pruett, she survives of the home in Bloomfield. To this union four children were born. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Gale Pruett of Bloomfield; by two daughters, Freda Mott of Guthery, Okla. and Vicki Griffin of Edmond, Okla.; by five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son. Visitation will held at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Bain officiating. Interment will follow in the Harper Cemetery at Aid with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of all arrangements.

Renzo Blevins

Renzo Edwin Blevins, son of the late Silas Edwin Blevins and Rosa Mae Gaines Blevins, was born on Jan. 12, 1918 at Townley, Mo. and died in the John J. Pershing Veterans Administration Medical Center in Poplar Bluff on March 12, 2002, at the age of 84. Mr. Blevins was a member of the White Oak Grove General Baptist Church of rural Bernie. He was in the United States Army during World War II, was a fire fighter at the Malden Airbase before his retirement, and was a resident of Ellington and former resident of Bernie. He was united in marriage to Alcione O. Greene in Nuwaqusta, Miss. on Dec. 22, 1948. She preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 1988. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Blevins of Ellington and Ronald Blevins of Bernie; one daughter, Valerie Gordon of Dexter; two brothers, Robert Blevins of Bernie and Bill Blevins of Pontiac, Mich.; three sisters, Shirley Burner of Swartz Creek, Mich., Marsena Burgess of Flushing, Mich. and Bernice Huffman of Malden; and five grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Blevins and Delmar Blevins; and by two sisters, Helen Rodery and Edith Wheeler. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 5 - 8 p.m., Friday, March 15. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dale Hartle officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of arrangements.
