Albert Isaac

Albert Isaac, the son of the late Ernie and Nora Stroup Isaac, was born in Kinder on July 31, 1929, and died at the Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus in Poplar Bluff on Thursday, March 20, 2003, at the age of 73. Mr. Isaac had lived all his life in the Kinder and Puxico areas. He was a member of Kinder General Baptist Chapel, and he loved to hunt and fish. He had been a timber worker with the Arthur James Company custodian at the Puxico Schools. On Sept. 27, 1952, he was married to Norma Crites in Piggott, Ark. Surviving are his wife, Norma Isaac of Puxico; two daughters, Margie Morse of Puxico and Andra Hawkins of Bloomfield; one son, Larry Isaac of Matthews; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Georgie Stilts and Ina Mae Waller, both of Puxico. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Isaac, on Nov. 15, 1981; one grandson, Michael Cookemboo on Nov. 15, 1979; three sisters, Peal Hicks, Geneva Bond and Francis Isaac. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Friday, March 21, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with the Rev. Ray Placher of Puxico officiating. Interment will follow in the Fagan Cemetery near Puxico with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

Willie Buttry

Willie Buttry, son of the late Edd and Rosa Summers Buttry, was born on Jan. 26, 1912 near Greenbriar in Bollinger County and died Dec. 2, 2001, at the age of 89. Mr. Buttry attended the schools in the rural Greenbriar area. He operated many businesses in the Puxico area from 1946 to 1965 and served on the Puxico City Council. He moved to the Poplar Bluff area in 1965, where he continued to operate Buttry Construction Company until his retirement in 1974. He developed Lake Road Subdivision in the early 70's, east of Poplar Bluff and he returned to the Puxico area in 1996. He was well respected by all of his associates. On May 18, 1940 he was united in marriage to Bessie F. Holloway. To this union, two sons were born. Bessie preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 1996. He then married Edith Turnipseed in Nov. 1997, she survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Larry Buttry and Nancy of Poplar Bluff and Kenneth Buttry and Carol of Platteville, Wis.; by three grandsons, Alan of Poplar Bluff, Stephen of Plano, Texas and Keith of DeForest, Wis.; by two granddaughters, Kimberly of Independence, Mo. and Karyn of Platteville, Wis.; by seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also mourn his passing. Besides his parents and wife, Bessie, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters, and a grandson, Kurtis. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5 in the Morgan-Sifford Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wiley McGhee and Rev. John Buttry officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery north of Puxico with Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home of Puxico in charge of all arrangements.

Brenda Pickett

Brenda Kaye Pickett of Advance, the daughter of Mary Moore Hamlin and the late Paul Hamlin, was born March 26, 1945 at Sturdivant and died Dec. 2, 2001 at her home in Advance, at the age of 56. Brenda was a Registered Nurse at Advance Nursing Center. She was a 1963 graduate of Zalma High School, had served 14 years in the United States Naval Reserves, had been a Girl Scout leader in Advance and was a member of the Advance United Methodist Church. She was united in marriage to Don Pickett on August 30, 1963 at Zalma. He preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1980. Survivors include, her mother, Mary Hamlin of Sturdivant; one son, Christopher Pickett of Sturdivant; one daughter, Mendy Henson of Advance; six brothers, Jimmy Hamlin of Wappapello, Jerry Hamlin of Advance, Billy Hamlin of Bethalto, Ill., Mike Hamlin of St. Charles, Tom Hamlin of Fredricktown and Terry Hamlin of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Alene Fish of Alton, Ill. and Pam Brenker of St. Charles; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Besides her father and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters. Visitation was held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance on Monday, Dec. 3 from 4:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. in the Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tom Zych officiating. Interment followed in the Morgan Memorial Park in Advance with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of all arrangements.

Steven Brown

Steven R. Brown, the son of John W. Brown and the late Patricia Gale Martin Brown, was born in Dexter on Jan. 31, 1970, and died near Dudley on Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at the age of 32. Mr. Brown had lived in Broseley and the past 15 years had lived in Dudley. He was employed as a truck driver with W.W. Transport. Surviving are his father, John W. Brown of Dudley; one sister, Stacey Hardcastle of Broseley. Visitation was held after 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Larry Ward of Fisk officiating. Interment followed in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Clifford Boyce

Clifford Benjamin Boyce, the son of the late Albert and Ada Mae Palmer Boyce, was born in Bloomfield on Jan. 4, 1917 and died at the Beverly Health and Rehab Center in Dexter on Dec. 2, 2001, at the age 84. Mr. Boyce had lived in St. Louis and Calif. before returning to Bloomfield several years ago. He was a resident of Dexter at the time of his death. He was a retired machinist, a Veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the V.F.W. He is survived by one son, Bill Boyce of Rogers, Ark.; by two daughters, Barbara Nicolini of Poplar Bluff and Martha Hufford of Bloomfield; by six grandchildren; by seven great-grandchildren; by one sister, Virginia Nesbitt of Cadiz, Ky.; and by one brother, Ray E. Boyce of Louiseville, Ky. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. in the West Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Bloomfield with Rev. Mike Watkins of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the West Pleasant Valley Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.

Bill Webb

Bill L. Webb, son of the late Leeman C. "Bill" Webb and Alamae Revelle Webb, was born on July 14, 1928 at Dexter and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on March 17, 2002, at the age of 73. Mr. Webb was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter since 1938, a former co-owner of Allen-Henry Food Brokers of Missouri and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Nancy Lee Acord on August 14, 1948 in Dexter. Mrs. Webb survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Susan Lynn and John E. Hill of Dexter and Laura Jane and Jack A. Kinder of Chesterfield, Mo.; by five grandchildren, James William Otten of St. Louis, Kelly Elizabeth Kane, Laura Lee Kane and Jeremy Hill, all of Dexter, and Sarah Welch of Bono, Ark. Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2002. Funeral services were conducted, today, Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wayne Dismuke officiating. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.. Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Ora Mae Black

Ora Mae Black, the daughter of the late Edward Albert and Hettie Snider Triplett, was born near Essex on Nov. 29, 1906 and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on March 14, 2002, at the age of 95. Mrs. Black was a former resident of Detroit, Mich. and St. Louis before moving to Essex in 1949. She was a professional seamstress and upholster. She attended the Ott School near Dexter and was a member of the Dexter Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. On July 3, 1925, she was united in marriage to Fred Smith in Detroit, Mich. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1934. On March 18, 1937, she was united in marriage to Charles "Blackie" Black and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1972. Surviving are two sons, Richard Black of St. Louis and Glen D. Black of Montreal, Canada; four daughters, Fern Kirby of Bloomfield, Marilynn Smith of Dexter, Ronnie Mae Black of St. Louis, and Elizabeth Black Mitchell of Essex; one brother, Cecil Triplett of Dexter; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Charles L. Smith; by one grandson, Keith Smith; by one brother, Fred Triplett; and by one sister, Cora Wilkerson. Visitation was held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, March 16 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services were conducted in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel, today, Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m. with Bro. Ed Mangus of Dexter officiating. Interment followed in the Triplett Cemetery near Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Services of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Clifford Gowen

Clifford T. Gowen of Advance, the son of the late James and Minnie Foster Gowen, was born Jan. 28, 1909 at Eminence and died Dec. 2, 2001 at the Advance Nursing Center, at the age of 92. Clifford was a carpenter and farmer. He was a Veteran of W.W.II serving in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Mary Burke on Nov. 30, 1945 at Piggott, Ark., she survives of the home. He is survived by four sons, Daniel Gowen of Zalma, Donald Gowen of Leopold, Bob Gowen of Marble Hill and Jerry Gowen of Arab; by two daughters, Patricia Cross of Lancaster, Pa. and Janet Sechrest of Marble Hill; by one brother, Ray Gowen of Dexter; by two sisters, Dorothy Parker of Dexter and Mary Eaves of San Bernardino, Calif.; by 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Visitation will be held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance on Wednesday, Dec. 5 from 4:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. in the Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rudy Pittman officiating. Interment will follow in the Morgan Memorial Park in Advance with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of all arrangements.
