Pearl Cathey

Emma Pearl Cathey, daughter of the late Albert Adams and Maude Funkhouse Adams, was born on Aug. 7, 1906 at Portageville and died in the Cypress Point Healthcare in Dexter on Dec. 29, 2001, at the age of 95. Mrs. Cathey was a homemaker and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to Fred Monroe Cathey on Nov. 21, 1925 at New Madrid. Mr. Cathey preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1991. Survivors include one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Louise Price. Visitation was held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 9:30 - 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clifford Wray officiating. Interment followed in the Hagy Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Edna B. Smith

Edna Blanch Smith of Advance, daughter of the late Walter Scott and Mary Mildred Dalton Smith, was born Jan. 14, 1911 at Sedgewickville, Mo. and died Dec. 29, 2001 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau at the age of 90. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ of Advance. Edna and Jacob H. Dunn were united in marriage in 1931 at Jackson. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1962. She later married Harlan Smith in Oct. of 1964 at Advance and he preceded her in death in Nov. of 1978. Survivors include one son, Murray Dunn of Marble Hill; one daughter, Mary Johnson of Millersville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one son and one brother. Visitation was held on Dec. 30 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance. Funeral services were conducted in the Morgan Funeral Chapel on Dec. 31 with Bro. Bill Davis officiating. Interment followed at the Old Union Church Cemetery near Bessville, Mo. Morgan Funeral Home of Advance was in charge of all arrangements.

Oma Florence Kirkpatrick

Oma Florence Kirkpatrick of Advance, daughter of the late Silas Zeno and Eva Myers Green, was born Aug. 14, 1918 at Grassy and died Dec. 29, 2001 at the Advance Nursing Center at the age of 83. She retired from the Lutesville Hat Factory and had been a homemaker. Oma was a member of the Church of Christ of Advance. On Nov. 10, 1936 she was united in marriage to Claude Allen Kirkpatrick at Senath. He preceded her in death in March of 1979. Survivors include one son, David Allen Kirkpatrick of Cievo, Calif.; one daughter, Brenda Jeaneal Vandeven of Marble Hill; one sister, Marie Cumpton of Advance; and four grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Visitation was held Dec. 30 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance. Funeral services were conducted in the Morgan Funeral Chapel on Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. with Bro. Billy Davis officiating. Interment followed at the McGee Chapel Cemetery near Grassy with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of arrangements.

Berniece Virginia Edwards

Berniece Virginia Edwards, daughter of the late Henry Barnes and June Parrott Barnes, was born on April 27, 1920 at Alton, Mo. and died in the Three Rivers Healthcare, North Campus at Poplar Bluff on Jan. 1, 2002, at the age of 81. Mrs. Edwards attended the Second General Baptist Church in Dexter, was a former nurse at Comeau Convalescent Home in Dexter, and a resident of Dexter. She was first united in marriage to Virgil Ross in 1938 at Poplar Bluff, he preceded her in death. Berniece then married Dewey Edwards on Nov. 18, 1965 at Piggott, Ark. Mr. Edwards preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1993. Survivors include two daughters, Glenda Wilkison of Mill Springs and Donna Winn of San Diego, Calif.; by one sister, Evelyn Hughes of Klamath Falls, Ore.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Cletus Barnes, Jesse Barnes and Kenneth Barnes; by one sister, Laverne Hale; and one daughter, Carolyn Boyer. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Vyron Yount officiating. Interment will follow in the Browns Chapel Cemetery at Broseley with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

William Evans

William Lawrence Evans Jr., son of the late William L. and Velma Mae Jackson Evans, was born at Fairview on Jan. 7, 1927 and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Dec. 28, 2001, at the age of 74. Mr. Evans had spent his entire life in Stoddard County and was a resident of Bloomfield at the time of his passing. He was a retired employee of the Missouri State Highway Department, a member of the Fairview Methodist Church and a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Simmers on April 17, 1948, she survives of the home in Bloomfield. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Larry Evans of Bloomfield; one brother, Kenneth Evans of Cypress, Texas; and one sister, Carros Worley of Bloomfield. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Jim Evans; and by two sisters, Wanda Pobst and Maurene Box. Visitation was held at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 6 - 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30. Funeral services were conducted in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Chapel on Monday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Bill Fox officiating. Interment followed in the Fairview Cemetery near Puxico with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gaylord Marcus

Gaylord Leon Marcus, son of Leon Marcus and Ruth Schrader Marcus of Quilin, was born on April 7, 1948 at Chigaco, Ill. and departed this life in the Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus on March 21, 2003 at the age of 54. Mr. Marcus was of the Baptist Faith, a former employee of Monsanto Chemical Company at St. Louis, a member of the Wappapello Eagles Club and a resident of Qulin. Survivors include on son, Albert Larry Marcus of Pocahontas, Ark.; one daughter, Robin Ann Todd of Pocahontas, Ark.; one sister, Gloria Bell of Bloomfield; four grandchildren, Brianna Moore, Maggie Trammel, Mika Todd and Brooke Todd; two step-grandchildren, Keleigh Hibbard and Derek Hibbard; two nephews, Bryan King of Essex and Scott King of Portageville; one great neice, Ashley King of Hardy, Ark.; one great nephew, Briar Kind of Hardy, Ark.; and one special friend, Loretta Wickenhauser of Dexter. Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2003. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 23, 2003 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Hancock officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Irma Crank

Irma Mallory Dellinger Crank, the daughter of the late Melvin and Irene Runyon Mallory, was born in Fairbury, Ill. on Feb. 27, 1926 and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare Facility in Dexter on Jan. 29, 2002, at the age of 75. Mrs. Crank lived in Central Illinois for many years and moved to Dexter 20 years ago. On July 19, 1945, she was united in marriage to John Dellinger, he preceded her in death. On Sept. 30, 1978, she was married to Clifford "Van" Shepler, he preceded her in death. On Oct. 9, 1984, she was married to Henry Harmon Crank and he preceded her in death on June 19, 1988. Surviving are nine sons, Melvin Howard Dellinger of Clinton, Ill., James Duran Dellinger, Roscoe Allen Dellinger and Francis Gene Dellinger, all of Lincoln, Ill.. Lyman Dale Dellinger of Gap, Pa., Marvin Lynn Dellinger of Dexter, Paul Duane Dellinger and Calvin Ray Dellinger, both of Annapolis, Ill., John Albert Dellinger of Milwaukee, Wis.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven brothers, Charles Mallory of Roby, Mo., Donald and Mac Mallory, both of Dexter; Jim Mallory of Ocean Springs, Miss., Lonnie Mallory of Kenton, Miss., Ken Mallory of Mary Esther, Fla., and Dennis Mallory of Lantana, Fla.; two sisters, June Bowman of Dexter and Ruth Tippen of Bloomfield; five step-brothers; and two step-sisters. Besides her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Allen Duane Dellinger and three brothers, Duane, Daniel and Gerald Mallory. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, Feb. 1 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 2 with Rev. Gary Teel of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow at the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Son Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Patsy Fitzgerald

Patsy Joe Fitzgerald, the daughter of the late Charlie and Cora Lee Sanders Trout, was born in Parma on Aug. 9, 1930 and died at the Beverly Healthcare Facility in Cape Girardeau on Jan. 27, 2002, at the age of 71. Mrs. Fitzgerald had lived in Dexter for many years before moving to Cape Girardeau. She was a member of the Pentecost Church. She was united in marriage to Reginal "Pete" Fitzgerald in Morehouse on May 3, 1967. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1995. Surviving are seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Abernathy of Marble Hill. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Recia Morrison; by one brother, George Trout; by three sisters, Christine Humphries, Arvetta Trout and Loetta Gibson. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, Jan. 30. after 9 a.m. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 10:30 a.m. in the Essex Cemetery in Essex with Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
